There Is No Going Back
the boats were already burned
the bridges all cut
the river floods and so we all go
to where we shall
end,
there is no turning back
there is nothing in there
not even a memory
of throats,
there was only the thin slice
of bitter taste
there is no you and me
we were all
like salt dissolved in the
blandness of
our own waters.

Lost River
Theres a lost river that flows
In a valley where no on e goes,
Where the wild waters rush
Rumbles deep in the hush.
Gone far from there now,
Lord Ill be back somehow
To where the lost river winds
In the shadow of the pines
Oh, lost river, now Im coming back
To the pot-belly stove, where the firewoods all stacked
Oh Quebec girl, go with me,
Oh my bell, my fleur de lis,
Where the lost river winds
In the shadow of the pines
Now every body knows
Where that lost river flows
Its someplace hes lost
Behind bridges that hes crossed
Well, hed like to return,
But his bridges are all burned
And hes much too far down
To return to higher ground
Oh, lost river, now Im coming back
To the pot-belly stove, where the firewoods all stacked
Oh Quebec girl, go with me,
Oh my bell, my fleur de lis,
Where the lost river winds
In the shadow of the pines
Oh lost river, far over ther ridge
Now is it too late for me to build me a new bridge?
To the bright golden time
When her love was still mine
And the world was still wild
Like the heart of a child
Oh, lost river, now Im coming back
To the pot-belly stove, where the firewoods all stacked
Oh Quebec girl, go with me,
Oh my bell, my fleur de lis,
Where the lost river winds
In the shadow of the pines
Where the lost river winds
In the shadow of the pines

Just A Taste Of Life
what i have in my hand
is a slice of pineapple
it is sweet
its sweetness lingers
in my tongue
and sticks to my brain
it is simply a slice
just a taste of this bigger life
ahead of us
i have another slice
to hand to you
take it
why waste some time
on bitter herbs
and sour grapes?
what i have is just a slice
of sweet pineapple
take it now
it is sweet
what do we have next?
we shall wait and see

We all must drink the water of life
Neutrality is the balance
between bad and good
life is water...
a balance between good and bad,
we all must drink the water of life!
Depth from depth
..the pain
length from length
..the struggle
mile to mile
.. the frustration
a bitter taste
a rotten smell
a water we must drink
yet a water needed for survival
Height to height
..the pleasure
reach to reach
..the satisfaction
bredth to bredth
..the joy
a sweet taste
a fresh smell
a water we must drink
a water oh so sweet for survival
Waters of success
sweet to the mouth
a reward to the soul
the waters of life
a journey of thirst
a well of plenty
Waters of failure
bitter to the mouth
a teacher to the listening soul
the river of death
the most bitter water of all
yet a water we must all drink
... to satisfaction
The river runs black and rough
to the uncertain end
but certain finish
where taste is empty
smell is neutral
and realisation is simple,
where all find and embrace,
a moment of peace.

Entendu! Understood!
One cannot step
into the same river twice.
Fresh waters
are eternally
rushing in.
Who passed this way?
And when?
Wait!
Pond river ocean
all are filled
with eternal waters.
In tasting these,
is Liberation not found?
And yet the ancient Dragon sits
in a dried out rock pool
singing for rain!
She has burned her lover's letters.
Will her lover's tears suffice?
And the river is jealous,
resentful of bridges,
imprisoned in pipes
and drainage systems.
Even Neptune rages
with his trident
against the volcano
slyly plotting
under the seabed;
impotently chokes
with pollution,
hungry and overfished.
The gods themselves
have traded eternity
for the ticking of a cosmic clock
which crawls its way
towards the end of the kalpa.
For an alms bowl
of memories.

Bridges Burned.
Those footsteps
In your hall
Are mine.
Returning in your dreams.
Don't be concerned.
Our bridges burned
So long ago.
With silent screams.
That heartbeat
You can hear
Is mine.
Still beating a drum
In your soul.
We both have learned
Our bridges burned
Under moonlight glow.
We drowned
In the undertow.
Where the waves of love did roll.
Our tears
Like dew on leaf
Will dry in the distant sun.
When the earth once more has spun.
From the paradise that we yearned.
To the place
Where our bridges burned.
As we kissed
On a snow laden sleigh.
Then watched it all melt away.

Floods
In the dark night, from sweet refreshing sleep
I wake to hear outside my window-pane
The uncurbed fury of the wild spring rain,
And weird winds lashing the defiant deep,
And roar of floods that gather strength and leap
Down dizzy, wreck-strewn channels to the main.
I turn upon my pillow and again
Compose myself for slumber.
Let them sweep;
I once survived great floods, and do not fear,
Though ominous planets congregate, and seem
To foretell strange disasters.
From a dream—
Ah! dear God! such a dream!—I woke to hear,
Through the dense shadows lit by no star's gleam,
The rush of mighty waters on my ear.
Helpless, afraid, and all alone, I lay;
The floods had come upon me unaware.
I heard the crash of structures that were fair;
The bridges of fond hopes were swept away
By great salt waves of sorrow. In dismay
I saw by the red lightning's lurid glare
That on the rock-bound island of despair
I had been cast. Till the dim dawn of day
I heard my castles falling, and the roll
Of angry billows bearing to the sea
The broken timbers of my very soul.
Were all the pent-up waters from the whole
Stupendous solar system to break free,
There are no floods that now can frighten me.

The Rivers Too Wide
(morrison)
The rivers too wide now for crossing
The waters rush too loud for talking
We never build bridges for walking
cause the rivers too wide
A gentle stream once flowed between us
But love could cross it easily
Till stormy skies brought bitter teardrops
And made that stream a raging river
Come between you and me
The rivers too wide now for crossing
The waters rush too loud for talking
We never build bridges for walking
Theres no getting to the other side
The rivers too wide now for crossing
The current goes too deep for mending
It looks like an unhappy ending
cause the rivers too wide
Good lessons learned are not forgotten
We gave up love to save our pride
Next time Im faced with rising waters
Ill build a bridge of love and kindness
Reaching to the other side
The rivers too wide now for crossing
The waters rush too loud for talking
We never build bridges for walking
Theres no getting to the other side
The rivers too wide now for crossing
The current goes too deep for mending
It looks like an unhappy ending
cause the rivers too wide

Burning In The Skies
I used the deadwood to make the fire rise
The blood of innocence burning in the skies
I filled my cup with the rising of the sea
And poured it out in an ocean of debris
I'm swimming in the smoke
Of bridges I have burned
So don't apologize
I'm losing what I don't deserve
What I don't deserve
We held our breath when the clouds began
to form
But you were lost in the beating of the
storm
And in the end we were made to be apart
In separate chambers of the human heart
I'm swimming in the smoke
Of bridges I have burned
So don't apologize
I'm losing what I don't deserve
It's in the blackened bones
Of bridges I have burned
So don't apologize
I'm losing what I don't deserve
What I don't deserve
I'm swimming in the smoke
Of bridges I have burned
So don't apologize
I'm losing what I don't deserve
The blame is mine alone
For bridges I have burned
So don't apologize
I'm losing what I don't deserve
What I don't deserve
And here's the dead wood to make the fire
rise
The blood of innocence burning in the skies

Too Much Water
Dreams in the night
Dreams overflow
Building bridges to each other
Hearts make the waters flow
Sunlight and diamonds
Reflecting hope
Making journeys to each other
Going where lovers go
You were sleeping, I was walking
To the rhythm of the falling rain
Too much water, to cross over
All the bridges falling down
You sing me songs
With overtures
From strange exotic places
Words Ive never known
Wait til the morning
Dont send me back
Dont send me back across the rainbow
No return to where Ive been
You were reaching, I was taken
To the river in the light of dawn
Too much water, to cross over
All the bridges falling down
Falling down
Come lie beside me
Lie beside me now
Beneath the waves
Beauty surrounds us

Casualties
Vigilance once tempered in solitude--
Brazen honed in strife--
Casualties of demonic spawns---
Slice bitter with the knife;
Courting most bitter favor...
In twilights very last hurrah...
Glimpses of the dusks arrival-
With open wounds that are raw;
Salt is poured in liberally...
As the blood flows ever free...
Consequences of impending death...
Shall echo throughout all eternity!

Josie
Ive been chasing after josie since the day I could run
Even though I didnt know it at the time
And I followed her from texas til she found me undone
Just a jump ahead of what I left behind.
She was proud of her young body as a body could be
On her way to be a woman of the world
And I still can see her smiling as she gave it to me
Lookin like a lonesome little girl.
Chorus:
Josie, is it true that youve grown harder than your years
Sellin them your sadness on the street
How much did you lose between the laughter and the tears
Gettin back the bitter for the sweet
Well, she loved me back to livin at a time I was lost
With the closest thing to love Ive ever known
And she led me through some bridges I was burnin to cross
Then she went and burned some bridges of her own.
Now the roads a little colder every time that I leave
For another empty place Ive never been
And I dont suppose its likely that shes lookin for me
But someday I may just chase her down again.
Chorus:
Josie, is it true that youve grown harder than your years
Sellin them your sadness on the street
How much did you lose between the laughter and the tears
Gettin back the bitter for the sweet

Sweet memory
My sweet little memory, you taste like red wine,
I am oh so pleased you have come to visit me,
You bring warmth and comfort in a worrisome life,
I wish I could be with you for eternity,
As I think back to the time I first smelt that scent,
Picture it as though it's happening this second,
Dance with my child self and mourn my innocence lost,
The feelings seem like they are more than just pretend,
My vile dirty memory, you taste like bitter foul meat,
Why must you trouble me quite so relentlessly?
You add to what's already a sea of torment,
I crave to escape your insensitivity,
So I look back to what caused the scar I abhor,
Imagine that it is happening this second,
Change the vile daemon into a liveable form,
Then reform and write all my flawed conclusions.

The Peverty of The Masses
i have already stopped wondering
why the rivers always leave the forest
proceeding to the sea
emptying all its contents
as the sea bloats itself with all the silt
salt and brownish water
it will always be
and you know that fully well
the sea is, and will always be rich
and yet
it is giving nothing back
to the river to the forest
to the village on top
of the mountain
the people there only dream of fish
and boats
what they eat are their own bare hands

My Daddy The Kern River And Me
When I was just a little girl
My daddy said it's time
To show you where I go to think
on a favorite river of mine.
But first you have to promise me
that no one else will know
Where this secret place is
Where nobody else goes.
We stood upon a rock that lies
just over the roaring white waters.
That's so very hard to get to and
that's why no others bother.
The river, called The Kern River has
always been our favorite spot
To go and think, and enjoy the peace
And we went there quite alot.
Some day I hope to go back to the
river where daddy took me.
And stand upon that same old rock
and dream of how things use to be.
The Kern River holds a memory of
the first man I ever loved.
And now I've found another man that
I am sure was sent from above.
I LOVE YOU DADDY

I Have Burned Some Bridges
No open doors do I turn to close.
Although I have burned some bridges,
I admit.
And they were the ones...
Some chose to display temper tantrums done.
I do not revisit those quick to give hissy fits.
There are some genuine and wonderful people.
And they have expressed themselves throughout my life.
None that I knew had expectations when they gave.
And I always did my best to treat them right.
Since they are among the few and far between.
For them I will remove the doors from their hinges.
For some others?
I did say I have burned some bridges!
And did not mind if I had been caught in the act of it.

Where Go the Boats?
Dark brown is the river,
Golden is the sand.
It flows along for ever,
With trees on either hand.
Green leaves a-floating,
Castles of the foam,
Boats of mine a-boating -
Where will all come home?
On goes the river
And out past the mill,
Away down the valley,
Away down the hill.
Away down the river,
A hundred miles or more,
Other little children
Shall bring my boats ashore.

Learning Urdu
From a district near Jammu,
(Dogri stumbling through his Urdu)
he comes, the victim of a continent broken
in two in nineteen forty-seven.
He mentions the minced air he ate
while men dissolved in alphabets
of blood, in syllables of death, of hate.
'I only remember half the word
that was my village. The rest I forget.
My memory belongs to the line of blood
across which my friends dissolved
into bitter stanzas of some dead poet.'
He wanted me to sympathize. I couldn't,
I was only interested in the bitter couplets
which I wanted him to explain. He continued,
'And I who knew Mir backwards, every
couplet from the Diwan-e-Ghalib saw poetry
dissolve into letters of blood.' He
Now remembers nothing while I find Ghalib
at the crossroads of language, refusing
to move to any side, masquerading
as a beggar to see my theatre of kindness.

Ancient Egyptian Women Bathe In River Nile
The River Nile, the sphinx, the pyramids,
ask questions of us all, as do the bodies,
skin tones, sweet sweat, female Egyptians.
Ra and Nile melt golden skin colours,
into fresh taste of sacred Nile waters,
pyramids watch longing as Nile floods.

Cape Cod
The low sandy beach and the thin scrub pine,
The wide reach of bay and the long sky line,—
O, I am sick for home!
The salt, salt smell of the thick sea air,
And the smooth round stones that the ebbtides wear,—
When will the good ship come?
The wretched stumps all charred and burned,
And the deep soft rut where the cartwheel turned,—
Why is the world so old?
The lapping wave, and the broad gray sky
Where the cawing crows and the slow gulls fly,
Where are the dead untold?
The thin, slant willows by the flooded bog,
The huge stranded hulk and the floating log,
Sorrow with life began!
And among the dark pines, and along the flat shore,
O the wind, and the wind, for evermore!
What will become of man?
