The Victim Of Bad Journalism
One morning he comes to you
Introducing himself as the journalist from the city
And he comes to interview you about this little conflict
About you and the mayor of this town
What can you tell him, except the truth
In good faith you say you do not want to be popular
And be likable by the mayor’s taste like you do not want
To be his stamp pad maintaining your independent stand
On the issue of life and death of his enemies
On the issue of you as the pillar of justice and the mayor
As another pillar of his own, vis-à-vis the people’s will
The voice of this miniature democratic society
He jots down every word that you say as he asks
More questions which you answer with all candid honesty
Like you have been this judge for the past 12 years
And the mayor simply dislikes your being passive
To his programs for justice (in his subtle way
Of telling you what really pleases him)
You tell you live in peace, in independence
Free from any dictates, except your conscience
Tomorrow morning the paper headlines read
“Town Judge calls Mayor a Stamp Pad! ”
Your wife asks you what is this all about?
And you are silent; you sip your coffee carefully
You read the paper again, you breathe some more
You are silent than ever, you ponder some more
These powerful people around you do not deserve the
Dignity of your answer and you do not want to see the face
Of that journalist again; He successfully made you feel
That in this town, honesty can be very serious offense.

Mayor Of Simpleton
Never been near a university,
never took a paper or a learned degree,
and some of your friends think that's stupid of me,
but it's nothing that I care about.
Well I don't know how to tell the weight of the sun,
and of mathematics well I want none,
and I may be the Mayor of Simpleton,
but I know one thing and that's I love you.
When their logic grows cold and all thinking gets done,
you'll be warm in the arms of the Mayor of Simpleton.
I can't have been there when brains were handed round,
(please be upstanding for the Mayor of Simpleton)
or get past the cover of your books profound,
(please be upstanding for the Mayor of Simpleton)
and some of your friends thinks it's really unsound that
you're ever seen talking to me.
Well I don't know how to write a big hit song,
and all crossword puzzles well I just shun,
and I may be the Mayor of Simpleton,
but I know one thing and that's I love you.
I'm not proud of the fact that I never learned much,
just feel I should say,
what you get is all real I can't put on an act,
it takes brains to do that anyway. (And anyway...)
And I can't unravel riddles, problems and puns,
how the home computer has me on the run,
and I may be the Mayor of Simpleton,
but I know one thing and that's I love you (I love you).
If depth of feeling is a currency,
(please be upstanding for the Mayor of Simpleton)
then I'm the man who grew the money tree.
(no chain of office and no hope of getting one)
Some of your friends are too brainy to see that they're paupers
and that's how they'll stay.
Well I don't know how many pounds make up a ton
of all the Nobel prizes that I've never won,
and I may be the Mayor of Simpleton,
but I know one things and that's I love you.
When all logic grows cold and all thinking gets done,
you'll be warm in the arms of the Mayor of Simpleton.
You'll be warm in the arms of the Mayor of Simpleton.
You'll be warm in the arms of the Mayor.

Fred The Clown
Orange, blue, red, white and brown
The favorite colors of Fred the Clown
A happy and jolly clown he is
But some people he likes to tease
Everyone hates to be with Fred the Clown
But Fred never showed the people a frown
He never felt bad for what he did
The hatred inside the people had hid
The people thought of what to do with Fred the Clown
They decided to talk to the mayor of town
He laughed at what the people said
He laughed until his face gone red
The mayor didn't believe the people
For Fred the Clown gives him a tickle
They always the mayor smiled that way
Ever since Fred came each day
He already knew what Fred was doing
So he decided to call Fred for a meeting
The mayor told him what the people had said
And so left poor little Fred
The people decided to give Fred a chance
So Fred the Clown gave them a dance
The dance was so funny that they laughed all day
Fred the Clown will forever stay

Ballad Of The People
When will people
Treat each other with respect here on earth?
Why are we so against the black people?
Because they live among white people
We want schools to be separated
But the mayor doesn't want it
By the way who is paying the mayor?
The residents of toronto
And I think that the mayor always forgets that
I believe that if we have separated schools we can end racism
And be able to serve the white and black students better

How Powerful Are They...
Can an appointed judge dismiss an elected mayor?
Is this democracy when the elites are such a powerful players?
Are we allowed to ask these questions or even think about this?
Is there something wrong here, that Mayor Ford can be dismissed?
Appointees and aristocrats always think that they are right,
We have Trudeau's Charter and have been told that we are quite bright,
Though we don't have referendums or set-date elections,
And we never change Trudeau's Charter or make corrections.
The elites know who they are, where they are and who you are,
So their unquestionable conduct may seem quite bizarre,
There's nothing you can do so you better bow your head,
We're lucky we're in Toronto, Canada or they might behead.

Love Is Stronger Than Justice
This is a story of seven brothers
We had the same father but different mothers
We keep together like a family should
Roaming the country for the common good
It came to pass one faithful day
We found ourselves down mexico way
The town, the mayor, the p.t.a.
Pleading on their knees with us all to stay
Wed only stopped for a few burritos
But they told us of the trouble with los banditos
A poor little town in need of aid
My brothers and me had never been afraid
The age of chivalry is not dead
Lomesome nights in a coyboy bed
Thered be a bride for every man
Who chased away the evil gang
Love is stronger than justice
Love is a big fat river in flood
The outcome was predictable
Our banditos were despicable
Of blood we lost a dozen litres
A small price to pay for las senoritas
The town mayor was happy but his face was glum
The maidens numbered only one
But there werent seven brides for seven brothers
I knew I had to get rid of the others
Love is stronger than justice
Love is thicker than blood
Love is stronger than justice
Love is a big fat river in flood
Mother told me I was the clever one
The seventh son of a seventh son
It all ended so happily
I settled down with the family
I look forward to a better day
But ethical stuff never got in my way
And though there used to be brothers seven
There other six are singing in heaven
Love is stronger than justice
Love is a big fat river in flood

Bold
Prior to Seventeen seventy-one,
Law forbade any newspaper relate
lively words spoken in earnest or jest
in British parliamentary debate.
An editor charged with a printing offense
was judged by the Mayor, who radically took
a supportive stand in the man's defense
and let him off the hook.
Brass Crosby, the Mayor, was condemned by the House
to the Tower of London's grim space,
but the people's ire could scarce be contained
and several judges refused to hear the case.
Ever since Seventeen seventy-one
the Press have been free to print every day,
but ironically, now that they've won,
the members find nothing incisive to say.
Not to besmear Mayor Brass Crosby's career
yet....selective reporting's trespass,
has members tongue-tied by an editing fear
where once they spoke free, bold as brass.

A dadada poem
It is not a fine morning, a storm this june
Sunk a boat killing some of my brothers
And they are not accounted by this government,
Complaints are made and they are not heard,
And remedies are not afforded, and always this
Event happens with everybody from the senator
To the mayor of the town gets a babble,
A da da da da da da da A da da da da da da da
A da da da da da da da A da da da da da da da
And so what has been done? I do not read the papers
I do not take a pair of scissors, I do not choose any article
And cut it and put all the pieces on a bag and close the bag
And shake all the cut pieces and then I throw all the
Pieces from the top of the building in the city
Like a confetti and there I shout, at the top of my voice
This is what is happening and nothing is done
We are all falling like pieces like pieces like
da da da ado
do do do ada
da da da da
Arriving at nothing at all, babbles getting out of the bag
Now emptied of words.

Dust
(I'm not trying to make this thing rhyme
But, at the same time,
A little interlude like this
Is not amiss).
We interviewed a Mayor and asked gently, 'Dost
Think, my lord, that thy great city is a pleasant place wherein to dwell? For, if
not, why not?' And he answered, 'Dust!'
Just,
'Dust!'
He seemed perturbed. Something was on his mind. He could not talk. He could not
say one word excepting
Just
'Dust!'
We fear that the interview was a bit of a frost. We wanted to ask him all sort of
things about markets, and the letting of the Town Hall, and jay-walking
regulations; but all he would answer was just
'DUST!!!'
And when outside into the street we went
We knew just
What he meant.

The mayor of Toronto
The mayor of Toronto has cutback public service
Deciding that people are an affront to his office
How dare they want things deserved from their leaders
Shouldn't they be happy for paying their taxes?
So goodbye Libraries, hospitals and public transport
You're gone to pay for jails and the policemen's donuts
The only sanitation is another cup from timmies
Were regulars converge to scorn the Maple Leafs
There was an old lady who thought for her meals
She went to city council and complained about abuse
But the mayor sat in his chair looking slightly obtuse
Wondering if she dropped would she taste like veal?
Then Marge paid a visit in her Viking regalia
Prompting the mayor to run in hysteria
He called the police with the fury of curses
Peering through the window to spot hot nurses
He doesn't like drugs but he does endorse snow
Especially the specials that fall in his nose
He's not big for Gay, though he is Gay for Bigots
For him men are Bears taking care of their Cubs
Education to him is corrupted with liberalism
Polluted with thoughts that corrupt family values
He's right in the sense that educations solves problems
Like learning to pick mayors who don't cause these troubles

What Changed Here?
except for the new landmarks
the erased bank of the
river, a new route
a new name of the street
another mayor of this town
and a few of his
selected council, a new market
cemented roads, and
a purple colored mall,
new faces of children
a set of migrants,
nothing really changed here
the town still bears the mark of torture
silenced screams, disappearing souls
still seeking the hall of justice,
bodies in pain, faces shrinking,
disfigured bones
unaccounted names of children
used for the choked revolution
these matters still hold the truth
in both hands, they still exist and hound
and howl
and haunt us.

Evening Song
Sleep, McKade.
Fold up the day. It was a bright scarf.
Put it away.
Take yourself to pieces like a house of cards.
It is time to be a grey mouse under a tall building.
Go there. Go there now.
Look at the huge nails. Run behind the pipes.
Scamper in the walls.
Crawl towards the beckoning girl, her breasts are warm.
But here is a dead man. A murderer?
Kill him with your pistol. Creep past him to the girl.
Sleep, McKade.
Throw one arm across the bed. Wind your watch.
You are a gentleman, and important.
Yawn. Go to sleep.
The continent turning from the sun is quiet.
Your ticker waits for tomorrow morning
And you are alive now.
It will be a long time before they put McKade under the sod.
Sometime, but not now.
Sometime, though. Sometime, for certain.
Take apart your brain,
Close the mouths in it that have been hungry,
They are fed for a while.
Go to sleep, you are a gentleman. McKade, alive and sane.
A gentleman of position.
Tip your hat to the lady.
Speak to the mayor.
You are a personal friend of the mayor's, are you not?
True. A friend of the mayor's.
And you met the Queen of Roumania. True.
Then go to sleep.
Be a dog sleeping in the old sun.
Be a poodle drowsing in the old sun, by the Appian Way.
Be a dog lying the meadow watching soldiers pass on the road.
Chase after the woman who beckons.
Run from the policeman with the dagger. It will split your bones.
Be terrified.
Curl up and drowse on the pavement of Fifth Avenue in the old sun.
Sleep, McKade.
Yawn.
Go to sleep.
