The Unfinished Business
things would have ended well
and the best goodbye could have been said
in a smile the wave of the hand and the letting go of the sigh
something perfectly orchestrated by the hand the lips and the feet
but something outside holds you to stay and your hair
brush against each lock
not wanting to go
because there is something that was left undone
still tangled on the twigs of the burning bush
there is a voice there that wants to utter your name
telling you
wait, i still love you, please don't go

Hand in Hand Perfectly
You and me
hand in hand tonight
and let me tell you boy
it's alright
Cause finally,
I'm singin a brand new melody
Yeah, you and me
go hand in hand perfectly
You with your smile
just makes me go wild
Making my heart beat like a little
child
and I believe,
we could make a beautiful family
Yeah, you and me go
hand in hand perfectly
It only took one night
to know
and darling you best believe me
I'm never gonna let you go
Cause when you took me hand
it was like
WOAH
Yeah, I believe we go
hand in hand perfectly
I believe we go
hand in hand perfectly

Let me brush your tangled Hair
My sweet baby gets up after dark
A runs fast through the quiet green park
Returning looks tiered as she flops in the armchair
I say relax sweety let me brush your tangled hair
Darling looks fantastic as she sets off for work
Running phoning faxing and training the new clerk
Baby does a great job she’s an angel she really does care
When she gets home I say relax let me brush your tangled hair
After dinner and all the dishes are done
I dim the lights pop the cork now starts the fun
We roll scream and shout its the best ever I swear
Then she says to me let me brush your tangled hair

Wanting
She can't help it
The wanting of him
A simple glimpse
Across a crowd
She hides her smile
As her imagination
Goes
Into
Overdrive
Goosebumps rise
Along her flesh
Somewhere deep
A quickening begins
Her heartbeat accelerates
Her blood warms and
Begins to pulsate
As she
Holds on
Always
Yearning
Wondering
If he kissed her
Would she moan
As his mouth consumed her
Enslaved her
As his hands touched her
Caressed her flesh
His nearness makes it difficult to breathe
All of her wishes
To melt into him
Reach out and
Touch
A glimpse of her
Across a room
Leaves
Him
Wanting
Wanting to
Reach out and touch
To hold her face in his hands
Brush the tip of his thumb
Across her soft lips
Caress her skin
Let his hand travel
Travel
Across her throat
Feel her pulse
As it glides
To the back of her head
Grab a fist full of raven hair
Tilt her head back
Look into her languid eyes
Her parted lips
And trace kisses along her flesh
As she forgets
How to breathe
Their wanting of each other
Is hidden well
In the ease and flow
Of a crowded room
Maybe neither knowing
Neither certain
Both aware of the other
Both
Wanting.

Braiding
1.
We two sit on our bed, you
between my legs, your back to me, your head
slightly bowed, that I may brush and braid
your hair. My father
did this for my mother,
just as I do for you. One hand
holds the hem of you hair, the other
works the brush. Both hands climb
as the strokes grow
longer, until I use not only my wrists,
but my arms, then my shoulders, my whole body
rocking in a rower's rhythm, a lover's
even time, as the tangles are undone,
and brush and bare hand run the thick,
fluent length of your hair, whose wintry scent
comes, a faint, human musk.
2.
Last night the room was so cold
I dreamed we were in Pittsburgh again, where winter
persisted and we fell asleep in the last seat
of the 71 Negley, dark mornings going to work.
How I wish we didn't hate those years
while we lived them.
Those were days of books,
days of silences stacked high
as the ceiling of that great, dim hall
where we studied. I remember
the thick, oak tabletops, how cool
they felt against my face
when I lay my head down and slept.
3.
How long your hair has grown.
Gradually, December.
4.
There will come a day
one of us will have to imagine this: you,
after your bath, crosslegged on the bed, sleepy, patient,
while I braid your hair.
5.
Here, what's made, these braids, unmakes
itself in time, and must be made
again, within and against
time. So I braid
your hair each day.
My fingers gather, measure hair,
hook, pull and twist hair and hair.
Deft, quick, they plait,
weave, articulate lock and lock, to make
and make these braids, which point
the direction of my going, of all our continuous going.
And though what's made does not abide,
my making is steadfast, and, besides, there is a making
of which this making-in-time is just a part,
a making which abides
beyond the hands which rise in the combing,
the hands which fall in the braiding,
trailing hair in each stage of its unbraiding.
6.
Love, how the hours accumulate. Uncountable.
The trees grow tall, some people walk away
and diminish forever.
The damp pewter days slip around without warning
and we cross over one year and one year.

Inconsistent
you like me
but you are telling me
it is time to leave
you
that i must go away
yet your hand
holds the pocket
of my denim
your right hand
pushes me
telling me again
with tears
in your eyes
that i must leave now
yet your lips
are wet
needing my kisses.

All I Can Do
Its all I can do to keep from falling in love with you
All I can do to keep from letting it show
Yeah its all I can do to keep from falling in love with you
All I can do to keep from telling you so
I wasnt looking for love when I found you
Just someone to be with and have a good time
But I get these strange funny feelings around you
When youre not with me, youre still on my mind
And its all I can do to keep from falling in love with you
All I can do to keep from letting it show
Yeah its all I can do to keep from falling in love with you
All I can do to keep from telling you so
I had intended to wait for a long time
I thought that love would just mess up my plans
cause I had big plans for a bright shining future
Could this be my future thats holding my hand
And its all I can do to keep from falling in love with you
All I can do to keep from letting it show
Yeah its all I can do to keep from falling in love with you
All I can do to keep from telling you so
I need to tell you how I feel about you
But Im so afraid that you dont feel the same
But if I dont tell you how I feel about you
I just might lose you, can I take that chance
And its all I can do to keep from falling in love with you
All I can do to keep from letting it show
Yeah its all I can do to keep from falling in love with you
All I can do to keep from telling you so

Tangled In Love
By marcy levy and richard feldman
A modern man with an old-fashioned heart.
One look at her and I fell apart.
I was always the one playing it cool.
I got caught in the act, now theres no turning back.
I got tangled in love, tangled in love.
I got tangled in love, tangled in love.
I got caught up, bought up, strangled, tangled in love.
I got tangled in love, tangled in love.
A long black dress and the call of the wild.
I was a fool to think she was just a child.
Out of my mind, out of control.
Knew that feeling too well, tried to run but I fell.
Chorus
I never meant to feel this way,
Now I always want to stay...
Chorus
I got tangled in love, tangled in love.
I got tangled in love, tangled in love.
I got tangled in love, tangled in love.
I got tangled in love, tangled in love.

No More
leave me alone
it's over it's done
my love for you will never die
but oh, how i can lie
just leave me alone w/ my pain
standing in the pouring rain
no more can i be there for you
there is nothing else i can do
how i wish that i could be there
in your arms, fingers tangled in your hair
oh how wish that i could be
good enough for you but don't you see?
no more do i have to give
no more do i have to live
but i will still keep on living for you
'cuz i know that's what you would want me to do
but you will always be gone
so leave me, it's over it's done!
i'm standing at your grave
my heart, an empty cave
please, i beg of you
do what you have to do
but please do move on
for you to stay here it's wrong
so leave me here alone
i'll love you 'till it's all over and done
so please wait for me there
and i'll be in your arms, fingers tangled in your hair
so i'm standing here in the pouring rain
trying to stay sane
and no more will i cry
even though i want to die
but i still know this
when i do die, naturally, the first thing i'll do is kiss your lips
and know that no more
will i be missing my core

Manhattan Skyline
(mags/pal waaktaar)
We sit and watch umbrellas fly
Im trying to keep my newspaper dry
I hear myself say,
My boats leaving now
...so we shake hands and cry
Now I must wave goodbye
Wave goodbye
Wave goodbye
Wave goodbye
Wave goodbye
Wave goodbye
You know
I dont want to cry again
I dont want to cry again
Dont want to say goodbye
I dont want to cry again
I dont want to run away
Dont want to race this pain
Ill never see your face again
Oh but how
How can you say
That I didnt try...
You see things in the depths of my eyes
That may loves run dry
No...
We leave to their goodbyes
Ive come to depend on the look in their eyes
My bloods sweet for pain
The wind and the rain bring back words of a song
And they say: wave goodbye
Wave goodbye
Wave goodbye
Wave goodbye
Wave goodbye
Wave goodbye
But you know
I dont want to fall again
Dont want to look this pain
Dont want another friend
Dont want to try again
Dont want to see you hurt
Dont let me see you hurt
I dont want to cry again
Ill never see your face again
How can you say
That I didnt try
You know I did
You see things in the depths of my eyes
That my loves run dry
...so I read to myself:
A chance of a lifetime to see new horizons
On the front page
A black and white picture
Of manhattan skyline

A Boy's Trials
When I was but a little lad
One thing I could not bear,
It was to stand at mother's knee
And have her comb my hair.
They didn't keep boys' hair as short
As it's kept now-a-days,
And mine was always tangled up
In twenty different ways.
I'd twist my mouth and grit my teeth,
And say it wasn't fair-
It was a trial, and no mistake,
When mother combed my hair.
She'd brush and brush each stubborn curl
That grew upon my pate,
And with her scissors nip and clip
To make the edges straight.
Then smooth it down until it shone,
While I would grin and bear,
And feel a martyr through and through,
When mother combed my hair.
She'd take my round chin in her hand
And hold it there the while
She made the parting carefully,
Then tell me with a smile:
'Don't push your cap down on your curls
And spoil my work and care;
He is a pretty little lad
When mother combs his hair.'
I'd hurry out and rumple up
That mop of hair so thick-
A vandal, I, for she had worked
So hard to make it slick-
And wish I were a grown-up man
So nobody would dare
To put a washrag in my ears,
Or comb my tangled hair.
Heigho! now that I'm bald and gray,
Methinks I would be glad
To have her smooth my brow and cheeks,
And whisper, 'Mother's lad!'
A longing for the care-free days
Doth take me unaware;
To stand, a boy, at mother's knee
And have her comb my hair.

Voice In My Heart
(stewart gray/todd kennedy)

Something in your eyes, is telling me goodbye
I dont wanna see you walk away
Cause Ive been waiting here so long
This feeling cant be wrong
I dont wanna see you walk away
Like a teardrop from the sky (fallin just like tears)
Do you wanna see me cry
Theres a voice in my heart, calling out your name
I dont wanna wait forever
And theres a fire in my eyes, burning deep inside
Please dont make me wait forever
As I watch you walk away, theres nothin left to say
Friendships end sometimes
But somethin in me cries, asking you why
Before you walk away
Theres a voice in my heart, calling out your name
I dont wanna wait forever
And theres a fire in my eyes, burning deep inside
Please dont make me wait forever
Do you know what it is to cry, did you ever try
Theres a voice in my heart, calling out your name
I dont wanna wait forever
Theres a fire in my eyes, burning deep inside
Please dont make me wait forever
Theres a voice in my heart, calling out your name
I dont wanna wait forever
And theres a fire in my eyes, burning deep inside
Please dont make me wait forever
Theres a voice in my heart, calling out your name
I dont wanna wait forever
Theres a fire in my eyes, burning deep inside
Please dont make me wait forever

Like Alice Does.
Alice sits brushing her hair,
stroke following stroke,
her husband sitting
on the edge of the bed
watching, studying her
hand and brush going
downward and out and
downward and out, and
as he watches he suddenly
remembers his mother
doing likewise and he
standing by the doorframe
of her bedroom, sees her
hand pull the brush through
her tight black hair, and
hears her sobbing voice
over the old white radio
playing some country song,
and senses an uneasiness
fill him like a wetting of pants,
and his mother gazing at him
in the mirror before her with
her red rimmed eyes and he
knowing as she lifts the brush
threateningly, that that way
pain comes and danger lies.

I Hate You!
I hate you for giving me hope in this life
when all there is, is despair.
I hate you for giving me this strife
and making the world seem so unfair.
I hate you forever wanting and letting
me know such happiness.
I hate you for leaving me to feel
the worst loneliness.
I hate you for telling me lies when i believe all
that you said
I hate you for letting me DIE
as i lay helpless in my bed.
I hate you for holding my hand
when it swung content by my side.
I hate you for EXISTING in this land
where we must coincide.
i hate you for smiling on a dreary day
when my frown is seen through the haze.
I hate you for letting come what may when
you could of stopped it in so many ways.
I hate you for saying YOU LOVE ME
when i asked you not to say it back.
I hate you for letting me see our relationship
CRACK!
I Hate you for not letting me hear
the cruel things you say when im not there.
I hate you for not letting me near
when my soul i need to bare.
I hate you for giving me a glance
when i think i look beautiful.
I HATE YOU 4 THE SECOND CHANCE
that left me incredibly hopeful.
I HATE YOU 4 NOT HEARING ME OUT
when i want to BEG AND PLEAD.
I hate you for making me doubt my opinion
to which i pay heed.
I hate you for all the things you said
that made me most content.
I hate you for turning my head beacuse
I still think your a GOD-SEND
I HATE YOU FOR THIS EXCRUCIATING PAIN I BARELY
ENDURE EVERY NIGHT.
i hate you for the constant rain my soul must fight.
i hate you for being there so now im doomed
to MISS & REMEMBER.
I hate you for giving me a reason to CARE.
what happened back in September?
I hate you for saying GOOD-BYE and leaving
me not knowing what to do.
But most of all
I hate you for letting me CRY
'cuase i can't have you!

Will You Come To Say Goodbye
when the last breath of life
is gone from my body
and my lips are as cold as the dog’s nose
when my friends gather 'round
for my farewell party
will you come with a smile to say goodbye
there will be flowers from those
who cry when I'm gone
and lots of tears from those I left in the world alone
and I know some will have fun at my farewell party
but will you come with a smile to say goodbye
don't be mad at me for wanting your goodbye
and dying for the smile we shared
this you need to know as true
when my life on this old world is through
I'll go away loving you still

Misshaped Love.
You never talked about cowboys
or shootouts with Fay.
She was the girl
in the apartment above
who lived with her mum and dad
and younger brother.
You sat next to her
on the bus
your hands wanting to reach out
and touch hers.
You didn’t
but held them in check
like hounds ready
for the chase.
She was about your age
eleven or so
give or take a few months
and she had long blonde hair
which her mother
sometimes braided
sometimes not.
What do you do
in your spare time?
She asked.
Oh you know
play about
on the bombed out buildings
or bombsites
or go swimming
or play ball with friends
you said.
She nodded and looked away.
There was a bruise
on her neck
where her hair parted
and sometimes
when you put your hand
on her shoulder
she’d wince
and move away.
But not that day.
That day she let it stay
and even tapped
your hand with hers.
She turned around
and faced you
her eyes filled with tears
like flooded cities
the blue islands
of her pupils
seemingly swimming
against the tide.
We’re moving away
she said.
Where? You asked.
Somewhere far away.
Won’t see you anymore
she said.
The bus drew up
at your stop
and you got off
and the bus drove away
and you saw her hand
wave at the window.
You never saw her again
or heard how she did
in later years
or if her father still beat her
as Mother said he had.
Sometimes you still saw her
waving goodbye
in your dreams at night.
The bus going over the hill
and your heart pounding
with a misshaped
small boy love still.

From Zero
from zero i have to
go again to some
one like you.
for i am nothing
and will always be
nothing
without you.
and then you come
very simply
as a smile
a pat on my back
and then
a hold
on my hand
my heart begins
to beat
like i am some
one
for you
and then we are
here
from ground
zero
a leaf falls
a little wind blows
a lock of hair
on my palm
the first step
to a kiss
i sit here
remembering
things again
three women
are carried
up
on an elevator
as i watch
with a bottle
of mineral water
beside my hand.

I Counted On Love
Morse, Walsh)
-----------------
I'm hangin on, 'cause I hate letting go (I hate letting go)
I'm not that strong, but you already know how I hate letting go
We believed that dreams came true, now that picture's torn in two
I counted on love but love will never cry for me
I counted on love but love will never lie for me
I counted on love but lover say goodbye for me
I counted on love
Some great defender, is that what you need? To heal not to bleed
Some great pretender shouting
"SET YOURSELF FREE- SET YOURSELF FREE"
Why do memories have to be like a lock without a key?
I counted on love but love will never cry for me
I counted on love but love will never lie for me
I counted on love but lover say goodbye for me
I was flying oh so high
Now I'm trying not to cry
I was trying, but I'm dying, 'cause I hate letting go
I counted on love but love will never cry for me
I counted on love but love will never lie for me
I counted on love but lover say goodbye for me
I counted on love
I counted on you

Alive Again
I'm all alone,
It's dark in here,
And for some reason,
I'm filled with fear,
All I remember,
Is walking 'cross the street,
And the bright headlights,
That knocked me off my feet,
I'm in so much pain,
I see a white light,
The light's so warm,
And so bright,
I start walking,
Towards the light,
But then I hear,
A familiar voice,
More start to join it,
They plead in my ears,
They tell me to stay,
With them now here,
I start to walk back,
The pain is intense,
But I don't want to leave,
I want to stay here,
I see someone now,
She holds out her hand,
I can't see her face,
But I do trust her,
I grab her hand,
She leads me away,
I see another light,
It's softer this time,
We stop at the light,
I want to walk through,
The bright light it beckons,
But I don't want to go,
She doesn't come with me,
But I see her face,
She's an old friend,
That died before me,
I tell her goodbye,
She smiles and waves,
I walk through the light,
And everything fades,
I open my eyes,
A friend's holding my hand,
They seem so relieved,
I'm alive again.

Can't Wait To Be With You
(Will Smith)
(I can't wait to be with you, uh)
I can't wait to be with you (yeah)
I can't wait to see you (uh)
I can't wait to be with you (haha)
Loving you is all I want to do
10 o'clock my flight lands
Can't wait to hold the palm of your hand
Been 7 long days, since the last that I saw you
And every free moment I get, I got to call you
Takin' every chance, to glance at your cute face
And lookin' at your 8 by 10 in my suitcase
Ain't been with my honey in a long while
And when I get a hold of you, mmm child (oh, yeah)
No tellin' what I might do
Cause I would be like a kid that got a toy and it's brand new
Can't wait to hold you, can't wait to see you
Can't wait to treat you, can't wait to be with you (oh, yeah)
I can't wait to be with you
I can't wait to see you
I can't wait to be with you
Loving you is all I want to do
Bein' in love is like an amusement ride, G (woo)
I feel like it's a party inside me
Smile on my face, and there's a twinkle in my eye
Time to go to work, but it's so hard to say goodbye (oh, oh)
And as I think of you, it's like I had a drink or two
I feel dizzy, damn where is she?
Pick up the phone and call you about three (Female voice: hello)
Yeah baby it's me, just to hear your voice, just the thought of you
Got me trippin', it's why I just bought a new
Cellular phone, so I don't have to postpone
When my beeper goes off, no more runnin' to a pay phone
Your astoundin', it's why I'm expondin'
So vivacious, and baby your face is
That of a goddess, it's makin' me feel numb
A fe fi fo fum, yo baby come and get some
Of the man, the myth, so debonair
What said while fair, is a pair
We extraordinary, me and you as a team, it's kinda swell ain't it
Love is hole and I tripped, then I feel in it (oh, that's why)
From the mountain, to the valley, to the deep blue sea
All I can do is hope and pray, you want to be with me
I'm sayin' this from my heart, that's how you know that it's true
Yo, I can't wait to be with you
Girl I know it's true
I can't wait to be with you
I can't wait to see you
I can't wait to see you baby
I can't wait to be with you
Loving you is all I want to do
Alright check it out, break
Yeah, uh huh, oh yeah
That's how I like it
That's how I like it
woof, woof, woof, woof
HEY, OH YEAH, OH WEE, YEAH
Yeah, presto chango I wish I was a magacian
Snap my fingers or tap my heels and then
Abra cadabra, righ there beside you
But it's seemin' and dreamin', that's all I can do
I'm in an airport, an hour until flight time
Can't wait to have you direct in my sight line
Got a warm feelin' in my chest, thinkin' of your soft caress
I miss you so much and it ain't enough to just reach out and touch
I want to hold your hand, in my hand
And walk and talk barefoot in the sand
(And I can't wait) to just see your smile
(And I can't wait) to be alone for a while
(And I can't wait) to do the things we do
I can't wait, I can't wait, oh I can't wait to be with you
Oh, can't wait
I can't wait to be with you
I can't wait to be with you
I can't wait to see you
Just to see you
I can't wait to be with you
Baby just hold you
Loving you is all I want to do
I can't wait to be with you
I can't wait to see you
...

Goodbye
Last night when I left u fast asleeping
I should have contemplated suicide
4 the smile upon your face thats well worth keeping
By morning - smears 4 every tear u cry
I could manage a week or 2 without those kisses
Itd be hard, but something tells me I could try
Chorus:
4 that matter, whatever 2 make u reconsider
Is there truth when u make love 2 a lie?
Excuse me, but is this really goodbye?
Whyd I ever let u in this morning?
Whyd I let u come inside my door?
I should have known without that smile adorning
Your face - a kiss was not what u came 4
Thats when your hand reached out 2 touch me gently
At least thats how it happened in my mind
Chorus
Cant begin 2 understand how I think about u (everything)
Everything I wanna do, I cannot do without u
However wrong u want - Ill be
Just please (please) dont leave (dont leave)
If it means this life without u, baby
I swear Ill spend it on my knees
Excuse me, but is this really goodbye?
Last night when I left u I was so sure
Wed be 2gether 4ever and 4 days
And now my shade of blue couldnt get no bluer
I dont even know what I did 2 make u go away
I could possibly stage a front and play the cool one (cool one)
Heart in my hand tryin 2 hold back every cry
But who would applaud me when its u, my one and only
Who ever gave me a good reason not 2 die
Excuse me, but is this really (goodbye)
Excuse me, but is this really (goodbye)
Excuse me, but is this really goodbye?
(goodbye)
Goodbye, goodbye
(goodbye)
Goodbye (goodbye)
