The Leaking Roof

it is raining and here i am stuck
under the roof of a deserted house
the windows are open
nobody has come to close four windows
looking to the street like an insomniac,
the door is creaky like a sore throat
sounding like an incurable allergic sneeze
the crazy wind bangs it from time to time
and i do not mind the routine of noise
for a while a walk to and fro
like i am making a picket
observing the details of how a deserted house
can look like
or feel like: there seems to be a growling silence
abbreviating itself like a scream
cut short by my hands kept inside my pocket
i look up and see the leaking roof
making a rhythm of the dripping beat
of this poem.

i have nothing in mind, i am empty
and emptying still. I take in so much quantity
of silence, the weight of thoughts,
the silly purposeless probe
of what i am suppose to be and where i must be going
after this temporariness of loafing.

The rain stops. I am leaving.
The rhythm ceases.

The Deserted House

Life and Thought have gone away
Side by side,
Leaving door and windows wide.
Careless tenants they!

All within is dark as night:
In the windows is no light;
And no murmur at the door,
So frequent on its hinge before.

Close the door; the shutters close;
Or through the windows we shall see
The nakedness and vacancy
Of the dark deserted house.

Come away: no more of mirth
Is here or merry-making sound.
The house was builded of the earth,
And shall fall again to ground.

Come away: for Life and Thought
Here no longer dwell;
But in a city glorious -
A great and distant city -have bought
A mansion incorruptible.
Would they could have stayed with us!

The Old House in the Glen

Winter has come and the wind and the rain
Wash over the house in the glen.
It cradles itself as if it were cold
For no one still lives within.

The years have passed over it, leaving it aged
And empty, and lost, without heart,
With no one to live there, no one to care
And the leaves are piled up on the hearth.

If you stand in the doorway, you can feel
Soft music that hangs in the air,
Like the soul of the house that ever lives on
Though there’s no longer any to hear.

The door is now gone, the windows un-paned,
The wood on the roof has gone slack.
But it still lingers on, as if waiting for
The people it loved to come back.

The old house listens, and waits, and sings
As the wind blows in through the door
And the beat of the heart of the house still sounds
Like the tread of their feet on the floor.

Bringin Da Noise

Bringin' da noise
Bring down the house
We came here to turn the party out
Say come on come on
Let's raise the roof
Forget the roof
Then we can get loose ya'll
Bringin' da noise
Bring down the house
We came here to turn the party out
Say come on come on
Let's raise the roof
Forget the roof
Then we can get loose ya'll

We need to get down
The scene is set so right
Everybodies in the house tonight
Lose your mind
Let your body take control
You've got to feel it in your soul
I've got that feeling baby
You know it drives me crazy
And all I wanna do is hit the floor
I wanna shout at ya'll
So make it louder ya'll

And turn it up some more
Bringin' da noise
Bring down the house
We came here to turn the party out

When The Rain Stopped Falling

there is this heavy rain
falling on top of your roof and it is so disturbing
that you wake up
and lock your windows
to shut yourself away from the sounds
of falling

but you cannot help worrying even when you cannot
literally hear the sound of the falling rain

you still imagine how they fall inside your mind
as though you can hear every syllable that every neddle of rain
is pricking in your brain
your ears
and your eyes still have the image of these
series of fallings

that even if the rain finally stopped
and you open your window to check
in the middle of this time
when morning cracks fromt the shutters of your windows

you still think like crazy
you hear the sound of the wind and it is like the sound of the falling
rain
and even if the wind has left like a leaf flown to the eastern side
of your house
even if there is no shadow of the leaf anymore
you hear your heart falling from your chest

now you must accept
leaving.
now you must accept the pain.
do not deny it.

it is you that is falling out
from the grace of her love.
it is you.

cry it out!
shout it!
it is you.!
it is you!
it is not the rain, it is not the wind, it is not the leaf that was blown away
towards the eastern part of the house.it is not the design of the house.
it is not the purple curtains. it is not the lonely courtyard
it is not the red bowl. it is not the tower.
it is not the blank sheets of paper.
it is not the bell.
it is not the winding stairs.
it is not the dirty garage.
it is not the scaffold.
it is not the white paint.
it is not the doorbell.
it is not the turbulence of the plane.
it is not the slap of the hand.
it is not the blue fan.
it is not the cellophance floating in the air and whirling in that corner
a dead-end.

it is you! and that is the truth!
be calm now. wipe the tears.
try sleep and dream.

Consent

i
only knock
you are the owner
of the door
of the house
if
you open it
then i
enter

but you close
the door
and the windows
of your house
airtight
and so
i turn my back
and walk
away

if you change
your mind
however

i am just
a stone
throw
away...

Sometime After Midnight

Sometime after midnight,
The streets are dark and deserted,
Muted by the vagrant silence in the wind.

The clouds pout softly.
A steady stream of slightly chilled rain water
Washes over the slightly fogged windows.

Inside, a glowing television set
Whispers its story to sleeping ears
That wouldn't have been listening if awake.

An empty gas station across the street
Hums, dimly lit, and cars pass around it
With nowhere to go.

Wanting To Say Nothing At All

a time for silence
the mind is full
like a heap of leaves
unswept for days
by the lazy wind

a day of silence
inside the room

a door shut
curtains and windows
stare
giving little mercies
to a restless soul
inside a
sleepy body.

Let’s create windows In our minds

Houses and buildings
Have Windows
Buses and trains
Too have windows
When open
Light and fresh air
Comes in through them
Allows foul air to go out
When closed
Prevents Dust and filth
From coming in
Let’s create windows
In our minds
Allow good thoughts
To come in and enlighten
The mind
Let the bad thoughts go out
Close the window of the mind
When bad thoughts
Try to intrude in
Listen to what people say
With an open mind

My Search For Silence

I'll sit here in my bedroom
where the silence is sometimes deafening
(when I have thoughts on my mind
that need to be discussed) .
As I clear my mind to listen
to the silence
I realize there is no silence here.
The ticking of the old wind-up alarm clock
becomes so loud...
I feel compelled to move
my ''experiment'' to another room.

I find a comfortable spot
in the bathroom.
Sitting on the bench that normally holds
the all-important reading material
I begin to listen for the silence.
It takes very little time
for me to realize this is not the room
for silence.
The sink begins dripping
almost as if to mock me
and say ''Silence...yeah right! ''
I tighten the faucet only
to be laughed at by the toilet
as it makes it's usual
groan while it levels off the water in the bowl.
This is surely not the room for silence.

I head to the kitchen.
There must be silence here.
I find it still and quiet until I really listen.
The flourescent light above the stove
is whining as if to say ''I'm here! ''
I turn it off and begin my quest for silence
once more.
The refridgerator lets out a God-awful noise
that makes me jump.
It only last a few seconds but it's enough
to ruin the mood.

I begin to wonder if silence
can ever truly be found
in a house that is lived in.
I go sit in the living room.
As I plop down on the micro-suede couch
and listen to the music it makes against my flannel pajamas
I laugh.
Who wants silence?
I love the sounds of my life.
This house is full of sounds...
love, laughter, water dripping, lights flickering,
the clocks ticking....
and I'm listening
and loving every sound!

A House called Lonely (A Trilogy in three parts)

There is a street in every town that owns a house
called lonely. Then when your just passing by you might
just say, 'if only.
If only could mean a life time of thoughts but it does'nt cure
a lonely house and all its faults.
Boarded up windows and tiles gone from the roof, graffiti
painted by a rebelious youth.
Such a lonely house and an oh such a tired one,
one that has lost all it's fun.
Stairs and rafters all gone to pot all that is left
is wood worm and dry rot.
No children playing in the garden, it's just a house condemend
by the council without no pardon. Poor lonely house someones
forgotton dream, now describing lifes social scene.
This lonely house stands in the way because their building
a By Pass or a new motorway.
The house called lonely could be any where, in the town, the
country or city square.
Even in your street there's a house called lonely just waiting
for you to say 'if only'

The Threshold Stone

WHEN I went to live in the little house,
That stands on the hilltop alone,
What touched me most of all
Was neither roof nor wall,
But the smooth, worn face of its old threshold stone.
For when I entered that little house,
With its four rooms cool in the heat,
And its windows clean and bright,
There it lay, new-washed and white,
With its tale of the coming and the going of feet.
Then I lost count of time in that little house,
And the world and its things all about,
And I hearkened there, alone,
To the footfalls on that stone,
Of the young coming in and the old going out.
And the folk that had dwelt in that little house,
They were mute, spectre-mute, at my side —
The young man, strong and bold,
And the grey man, wise and old,
And the little, pinched woman and the new-made bride.
Oh, often in haste to that little house
Came love in the night-time alone,
And dallied there a while,
With a little, wistful smile,
And with feather-weight feet on the old threshold stone.
And men hurried home to that little house
When the round of the daytime was o'er
With its worry, heat and noise,
And kissed their girls and boys,
And the patient little mothers that waited at the door.
Though I dwell now no more in that little house
That stands on the hilltop alone,
Yet this I got from it —
This human story writ
On the smooth, worn face of its old threshold stone.
Though they take stone from stone in that little house,
Making litter of all it has been.
Yet they shall not destroy
All the grief, all the joy,
All the youth, all the love that its threshold has seen.

Welcome To A Safehouse

this may look like
the house of a dove
for it has but one
pillar

for it has many windows
without an enclosure

it towers above them
almost touching
the hands of the wind

the sounds of cries
are as gentle as the early morning waves
on storms that fail to come

not much words here
just signs and
gazes

this the house of my mind
the doves of my thoughts
on the pillar of
privacy
on the windows of openness
no dogmas here
but freedom.

House On Henderson

I can remeber all the times
When we would go blind
We would be dead on our feet
But it was fine we had good times
In the House on Henderson Street
We would play our music
And sing our songs
And drink in the heat
When the air wasnt on
In the cold, rain or shine, through hail and sleet
We always had goodtimes
In the house on henderson street
We would have kegs in the kitchen
And I was itching
For that sweet feeling in my mind
Throw a tire on the roof, scream in the streets
Filled up with alcohol, lets get something to eat.
Though my memories are hazy
And the nights were crazy
I wont forget the people we'd meet
But it was fine we had goodtimes
At the house on henderson street.
It was fine when we lost our minds
At the house on henderson street.

When I Feel The Rain I Live

Outside it's raining and i'm watching at my window,
In silence of the world, only the dance of rain i could feel,
My thoughts are in torment of questions and answers,
Only the rain knows what i need.

Rain falls gradually in the rhythm of my thoughts,
I feel it's wrapping my pain,
The voice of rain calming my senses,
When my heart is rushing to beat.

I'm watching rain from window,
The cold drops are touching the thirsty ground,
My soul is the same as the soil,
It needs love as much the soil needs rain.

I'm walking in cold rain,
Like crystal pearls are falling from the sky,
When touching my skin it's like magic,
I feel my soul light and released of pain.

I'm listening the music of the rain drops,
And on this music i am dancing, speeding around,
With my arms wide open touching rain drops,
Rain is caressing me with its voice and touch.

I adore rain, it's all my sould wanted,
Caressing me, awaking life in me,
When i feel the rain and listen to its rhythm,
I wish to live again, again, again.

Secrets

She aint waiting til she gets older,
Her feet are making tracks in teh winter snow,
She got a rainbow that touches her shoulder,
She be headed where the thunder rolls,
Ah,ah,ah
She got rhythm,
Got that rhythm,of the road
Ah,ah,ah
She get crazy,
Woman get crazy if she cant go
Ah but ah,she just looking good.
She comes like the secret wind
Shes as strong as the mountains, walks tall as a tree.
She been there before, shell never give in,
Shell be gone tomorrow like the silent breeze.
Ah,ah,ah
She got rhythm,
Got that rhythm,of the road
Ah,ah,ah
She get crazy,
She get crazy if she cant go
Ah but ah,she just looking good.
You know how sometimes, you got to rush,
Youre running blind, but she jumps the gun.
Question is,not does love exist,but when,she leaves,where she goes.
I got a feeling she dont know either,
Wait like the wind, watch where she blows.
Oh,oh, got that rhythm,
That sweet rhythm,of the road
Oh,oh,oh she get crazy,
Woman get crazy,if she cant go
Oh,oh a looking good
Ah yes!

an Ode to Loneliness....

Loneliness need not be feared.
IT is one of the most common guests in your house.

If you fear it, it will tease you and prolong your
agony.

If you, however, meet it at the gate, and welcome it to your house,
give it some drinks, feed it well, and offer it your room, ask it to sleep with you
for ten days,

Then it will look at you from the tip of your hair to the tip of your toe and say, ' This man knows me, and has a deep thinking, he knows how to nurture me,
and take good care of a bleeding heart'

And then it will have second thoughts in deciding to stay in your house
and sleep with you in bed

It has lost its use and finally arrive at the conclusion ' You are a strong man,
you know how to live. You talk to God, and compassionate about
the pain of silence'

And then without saying goodbye
sans the note or words of departure, it leaves you and your house
looking for those who are still living on their closed houses,
on shallow waters

For indeed, Loneliness also chooses those who deserve it
Now you smile, you close the door because it is already dark,
close the windows because there is no moon,
and somehow you think about it,
honestly, you miss
what you have become so familiar about
it has become dear to you
and clearer now
it has become a part of you
like a key inside your
pocket.

Intimacy....

it is more
in the mind, and so the brain
makes a room
for us
two,

we shut up the mouth of
the universe

we fall short of the words
which we have mastered

it is the moan
of loneliness meeting another
moaning of
emptiness

glasses are made full and then
we empty them
and then we fill them all again
with what
we cannot really fully
comprehend

we have thrown away everything
shed off clothes, skin,
thoughts

wind to wind and rain to rain
and then in the silence of the room
after
sunlight slowly creeps in
from the
shutters of our
windows...

Wake Up The House

I seem to walk on ice
Some things make me think twice
When I get that resistance
Like having freedom with my hands tied
Ive censored whats inside way too long
I cant live so black and white
Somebody listen
Somebody say whats on your mind
Ive got the wheels of the reckless
Im gonna scream on the edges
Wake up the house start the clock work
Turn on the lights anybody home
Break all the glass on my windows
Wake up the house so Im not alone
Disturb this neighborhood
Maybe itll do some good
You know what Im missing
When everybodys asleep at night
Somebodys got to tlak
Might as well be my job yeah
Maybe somebodys listening
You know Ive censored this heart too long
Ive got the wheels of the restless
Im gonna scream on the edges
Wake up the house start the clock work
Turn on all the lights anybody home
Break all the glass on my windows
Wake up the house so Im not alone
I cant live so black and white
You know what Im missing
Somethings making me think twice
Is anybody listening
Repeat chorus
