The Challenge Of The Day

on a rush you step outside the room
without a window
thick drapes
sealing you away from the noise of the world
solitude and silence
your treasures
as soon as you open the door
the heavy rains and traffic greet you
with a challenge
'this is the real world, come out! '
there is no place to hide
there are always places to go
and faces to deal with
amidst the crowd find the solitude and the silence
from within your soul
your heart must know and your mind must adopt
lest you shall be one of those carried by the flood of meaningless existence
out there
cold and dead

Silence and Echo

solitude
like silence
falls off on the ground

undisturbed waters
transparent

this silence of word
silence of air

this silence

solitude
nobody's longing
breaks against a bricked wall

high

wall like concrete
thick
and heavy
this perfect peace

at times
larynx scream
will wake up the silence

disturb
this constant reverie

sorrow
wants to leave

or silence
wants to play
with the echo

longer

989. What Is Solitude?

Amma, What Is Solitude?

World is always busy.
Blind mind too busy all the time.

I seek a place to be in solitude,
To brood over the meaningfulness
-of the existence of the world;
-of the existence of the mind.

On hill tops,
On river sides,
On vast deserts,
On sea shores,
In green vales …

Wherever I go,
Both world and mind follow me ever.
Can’t get rid of these shameless ones.

What is the meaning of SOLITUDE?

In The Solitude Of My Mind

As I sit and watch the fire’s glow
in the solitude of my mind,
I can see more than any person realises.
I sometimes wonder if it is the future
my mind allows me to see,
or am I daydreaming
hypnotised by the dancing flames.
I can sit for hours
enchanted under its spell
and visit many countries
in the solitude of my mind.
The world has no boundaries;
there is no place I cannot go,
no tongue that I cannot speak,
as I sit in silence
in the solitude of my mind.

Deep In The Middle Of The Night And Beyond

deep in the middle of the night
and even beyond
this darkness

in my solitude
below the stars and the
full moon

i sit in the form of the lotus-god
praying

there is this silence
contained in the circles
of divinity

this is the throne of the ear
the bed of the mind
this bridge
between God and Myself

the strong silence amidst
all the noise

the glitter
amidst this cacophony
of a tarnished
silver

Catastrophe Within Silence

silence as in a room with no sound
but the hard pounding drops of rain against the window
silence as in being in a crowd of people
but no one is paying any attention to you
silence as in the pain that harvests inside
but not a soul is around to help u through it
silence yet another meaning of no commotion
but leaves many oblivious to anything of mention
there is catastrophe within silence
but who are those to even realize it?
not a word against a crowd
or a cry for help
not a simple acknowledgment
or an act speaking an opinion
silence
silence may be the
fear
shock
or agitation
within our world that leaves everyone
speechless
till all that is left is
catastrophe within silence

Keep Listening Still

when our friends finally abandon us
we are still lucky
to have us: me myself and I,
NOW, there is no need to adjust
and chart what the other
needs
what amount of light must this room
have
what shape must the window be
half-open or wide open to see
the long stretch of the road beyond
this room
narrow and noisy with the other

when everything fails
do not ponder upon any loss or regret
how useless and faulty have you become
there is no use
the world moves on
the ship sails still

when made to choose between the joy of the crowd
when you cannot afford it
choose silence instead
purify the mind
live in the solitude of the soul
like a pond without a ripple

however, when a leaf falls (another metaphor for death
or failure)
welcome it
for such shall become your
wise company

listen to the duet
of leaf and water.

A Place Of Solitude

Everyone has a place of solitude
where the world cannot invade.
Where we can sit in silence
and enjoy our own thoughts
away from everyone.
A park bench by a pond
dedicated to someone
who liked the view.
A church pew
where people sit
and ask god to see them through.
Everyone has their own place
that gives them peace of mind.
A place to rest their weary body
and leave
the rest of the world behind.
Their own space
a place of solitude.

Solitude, Singing

Being alone is knowing
That in in this solitary splendour
Solitude, stark and staring,
Solitude, singing a lullaby
Solitude, singing a dirge
Surrounded by so many sundry things;
Things seen and unseen
Factors known and unknown
Solitude singing softly, chanting without ranting
Solitude’s songs that sing of solemn things

Silence singing golden songs
Silence healing ancient wrongs
If only silence could be
More than a memory
More than history
Silence can be more than words
Empty words echoing in an empty world
Echoing in empty valleys
Silence unspoken, unspoken, unbroken
Transfixed by time.

Love Sonnet XLIX

In me there is a vast and lonely place,
Where none, not even you, have walked in sight.
A wide, still vale of solitude and light,
Where Silence echoes into ebbing space.
And there I creep at times and hide my face,
While in myself I fathom wrong and right,
And all the timeless ages of the night
That sacred silence of my soul I pace.

And when from there I come to you, love-swift,
My mouth hot-edged with kisses fresh as wine,
Often I find your longings all asleep
And unresponsive from my grasp you drift.
Ah, Love, you, too, seek solitude like mine,
And soul from soul the secret seems to keep.

Sonnet 12

no sport lending play nor giving mind diversion:
all faculties dead to present, future, and fate:
will unformed and bent to no inspired reason:
disbarred from freedom, in isolated restraint:

dull soul in solitude confined to prison:
no company to silence by visitation made:
alone with heart bereft of will and passion:
in solitude soul to single soul betrayed:

all alone with self and my own soul,
a narrow world in which no love revolves,
in want of wisdom and acting the fool,
no key turns and self no solitude solves.

physician love! creator of this mortal speck,
heal your creation! evil infection i detect.

Epiphany

Outside the surge of the wind, the wind in the trees,
The rush of leaves, and the sighing in the pine-needles,
Outside the sound of the sea-shore, distant, remembered,
The waves breaking on the gray rocks, and the evening approaching,
The restlessness, and the interminable noise.

Silence in the room, and solitude,
A sense of spaces, remoteness and nearness, and the soul's awareness,

Desolate is the hearts desire
And the loving knows no end,
When the morning in the clouds breaks across the sky,
And the forests sway and bend.

Outside the wind, the wind in the trees,
And the sighing in the tree-tops.

Noises from the town, heedless, unthinking, indistinct,
Recurring, fading,
And silence in the room, and solitude,
The shadowy dimness, the darkness of evening,
A pause in time, and the soul's awareness.

The Water That Quenches Your Thirst

at four o'clock in the morning you wake up.
blood is boiling and you look for water to quench the fire.
there is no water in the kitchen.
you go upstairs
no one is there.
you open the window
there is no rain.

it is just the silence of the world
that becomes the water
to your soul.

you drink every moment of this silence.
every dew
in the leaves
of the tree of
solitude

you are refreshed and from that moment on
you know where water
is.

what dew is
what leaves are.

there is a thirst that you have just
defined.

it is not their water
neither yours.

it is beyond the ownership of everyone.
and you know
now
where to find it
because you
also know
what it
really
is

Solitude and Silence

All I have to offer
is solitude and silence.
No accomplishments to speak of,
having never finished anything
worth finishing
except bad relationships
and good friendships
I now regret not keeping.

Those I feel closest to
are the farthest away from me
while I keep myself distant
from those who are near.

If all you seek is solitude and silence,
this I can promise you without breaking.

I only ask, in return, to be allowed
my silence and solitude
from you.

The World Simply Laughs

the single step
of the thousand steps
the world
laughs at
it

it is the beginning of a
world in a cliche

the world cannot be intimidated
by your howl
it has silence so many
howls
before the first howl
came in
the cave of
illusions

the world will love you for your silence
your friend
in your solitude
your buddy in your fishing
your company
in prayer

Back To The Stable

back to the stable with Vincent
eying for a magical landscape

somewhere in dusty Mexico
on the hands of the desert sands

he is looking for horses
those harsh horses of the black night

he is on his journey
to plant the seeds of his solitude

i am tilling silence too
in the garden of my heart

silence listens to all the forebodings
solitude blooms amidst the skulls of hunger

Dealt into silence

Dealt into silence
~
I sit and shuffle a deck of cards
Each queen named, a prelude to fate
Momentarily I distract myself enough
To slip into an idyllic peaceful isolation
And what has brought me to this conclusion
That I now turn my back to the world
And seek the confines of solitude
I sit turning each card, counting nothing
For there is nothing in these turns of fate
Each queen I named a sad memory
Of a love I held passed unrequited
The same story, the same bitter ending
Those false promises sound like quotations
Reeling out from liars lips meaningless
And who was there to pick up the pieces
Of the broken heart and weeping soul
The cards are shuffled and dealt
Into silence and solitude

In Solitude

A glass of red wine spent
Recalling life's events
Crowded in my skin
In Solitude

Relishing a melody of lament
Drifting through my window
Gliding in uninvited
In solitude

Last night I cried out loud
For the sake of hearing a sound
Though I did not hear me
In solitude

Gawking at my naked fear
Of living a life unseen
Yearning to belong
In solitude

I woke up in the evening
Read a book out loud
My voice wavering
In Solitude

As the heroine yearned
In an isolated crowd
To be loved
In solitude

I walked around naked
In my new home
My skin in flames
In solitude

Every molecule of air
Brushing against me
Scorched in vain
In solitude

It was raining that morn
When I came to life
My throat stinging
In solitude

I see no soul
I hear no breathing
I smell no skin
In solitude

I mourn not waking up
Next to my beloved
To warm my frozen hind
In solitude

Yet, I feel no cold
And life goes on
As I bury myself
In solitude

Defining The Kind Of Silence He Needs

it is like the silence of an empty room
not keeping anything
not holding
not gripping hands
or gnashing teeth
the windows are not closed
or the doors
to keep a hounding silence

it is a silence with still air
you hear me breathing in
and out
of my nostrils
nothing kept like grudges
nothing hidden like
some disappointments

it is the silence that heals
that gathers strength
the silence of your gratitude
the silence that rests
the silence
of the soul in solitude
the silence of peace
one that looks out
to the grandeur yet to come
one that waits patiently
the silence of
glory
godlike

humane, and seeks to understand
the one that drives
confusion away

like a bird
nesting its eggs for days
on a stable branch

Bits of Life

Life is no sanctuary
Of desire and fulfillment
Each day extends
Vagaries of nothingness
And I go on
Eating solitude and slow time
Bit by bit
With silence.

My walks to the beach
Brings images intermixed
The chopping of waves
The hustling of winds
Amid chicken roasting streets
And I go on
Eating solitude and slow time
Bit by bit
With silence.

I often ask,
Is it my life
For which I pursued forth?
Mind approves…
Heart denies…
And I go on
Eating solitude and slow time
Bit by bit
With silence.

My look to the East
Brings memories on sea waves,
Children, wife, parents,
Kinsfolk, friends, teachers…
Inheriting a loss,
I go on
Eating solitude and slow time
Bit by bit
With silence.

A Dying Soul.

There' on solitude,
Wounded by their windy deeds of jealousy,
Wounded by their windy deeds of treasures,
Thought there' in plays,
But not of vivid terms of picture,
There' on solitude,
But not of there ways in picture,

There' on solitude,
Gone too far,
Gone in the physical,
Gone from the midst!
They w'll not understand!
For though it's difficult and must say,
I know them too well,
Ecclesiastes, Proverbs, and Wisdom of Solomon,
They shall tried but not of the callers,
Testifiers of life i called,
Peharps, witnesses of mind.

There' on solitude,
Appealing a rescue,
For they in everywhere want,
Begging to have by force,
They are not dumbed,
They speaks but very silence,
Fear to surrender,
Fear for their deciet of confusion,
For they are liars everywhere,
For they are killers of no accusation,
What to do,
In this windy treasures of their powers,
Death preferably?
For i know it well,
Days and nights,
Thanks his grace,
His grace of been a being of days,
For they knows that he knows,
A prophet in class,
A dying soul.
