Taking Things In Passing

you chide me for taking things
in passing and looking at them as though
they are tiny

ants on a hill
grasshoppers playing on the grass
moths circling around the light
fleas on the rug

i could have told you
that many days back in my youth
i was worshiping the sun
had time with flowers and took more
moments with the rivers

those were the huge things in my life
where i placed more significance
but then they were so hurting at times
and then i shun
what we think are important

i like the dips and i stay on the surface
of things
no longer wanting to swim but you may see me
(not miraculously)
walk on top of the water
gliding on the shimmer of its skin
and then without the use of so many words
i leave and then go away and what you always see
(though this may not be true after all)
is always the happiness subsumed in my
suppressed smile.

You told me youd never stray, you told me!
All these things you said you said sincerely.
Still I am leaving you in spite of what you told me.
Ive heard things that did not match what you told me.
And of your love that would not last as you told me.

Mum I'm sorry for all of the tough times I put you through

There are many things that I did to you that I shouldn't have
But I think it's about time that I say I LOVE YOU

Mum this is coming from the heart
And that's the only way to start

Since I was a little girl
My whole life went into a whirl

I'm sorry for all of the lies
And for all the times I made you cry

I'm sorry for all of the fights I started with you

All of the things that I have been going through

Small Things

it's so easy to miss
the things that really matter.
the small child looking up
at you, wanting to be
picked up.
the way sunlight dances
on rain wet leaves.
the person you bump into,
that smiles with that look
of something they want to say,
and you're in too big of a hurry
to listen.
the old man in his rocking chair,
waiting on you to call.
the dog that rolls over,
waiting on a belly rub.
the woman staring out the window
while you rattle on about work.
the ants going to and from their hill,
doing life's work.
the rose that opens and closes
without you taking the time
to smell, and to touch.
the hawk flying overhead
in the limitless sky.
the hand that brushes yours,
and you dont notice.
the voice on the phone
that wants to say 'come home'.
but doesnt because you're busy.

See What luck Can Bring

Luck can bring you joy that is true
So better stay alert and clearly view
And try to understand things that are new
And see what luck can bring in flying hues

Sometimes you feel that your sorrow is deep
And you cannot do anything else but to weep
But remember taht some times happiness leap
And you have to wake your luck from sleep

So instead of just quietly passing your days
wake up and search for the happiness rays
And look for the stairs in your way
That will lead you where happiness stays

But remember for that you first have to arrange
Your messed up life and then you must change
Your attitude towards things that are strange
And then reach out for the range

And l; earn how you can properly greet
Things taht are worthwhile and sweet
And hope that one day you will meet

To parents

Come back, swim back… I need you…

When I stood a child upon the seashore
waving through the tears as first
the one and then the other
was taken by the tide until
no longer visible in that dark sea
too vasty to be thought about…

then turned, and ran back up the beach
to meet and greet my life..

that was, as it was; but now
I run back to the water’s edge
shouting come back... I never knew you,
I’m grown up now, I want to meet you,
ask you all the things I never asked,
tell you all the things I never dared,
look you in your fierce, sad eyes…

come back, swim back, I need you,
for I’m grown up now; I can love you
without restraint; give love not ask for it…

or must I wait, until the tide
laps feet, then knees, then heart, then sight…
to join you in that dark unknownness which
may be, may be, an even greater love
than that which stands here at the water’s edge
as the evening water darkens,

The Fish and the Sky

Once there was a fish living in a stream
Where water was clear and the surface gleam
Food was abundant and large predators away
The fish was passing happily its days

One day the fish looked up and noticed the sky
So blue and endless and free in its eyes
Suddenly it saw a flock of birds moving by
And immediately yearned that it itself could fly

With passing of time the fish’s desire grew
No longer with happiness its mind was ruled
It no more noticed clear water and surface gleam
Lack of predators and abundance of food became unimportant things

Finally the desire was too much for the fish to bear
So, it relentlessly jumped out of water into the air
In doing so the fish met its ultimate death
Devoured by a bird watching its crazy stunt.

Off Days

On my off days I may need a little attention
Just a smile may be o.k. that rids the tension
Sometimes there are clouds that are really dark
No matter what I say or do I just miss the mark

There are days I say things to cover up my fear
You will have to listen closely so it becomes clear
At random I may want everything right here and then
To disguise my hurt over and over time and again

Occasionally all I see is the damage previously done
Paralyzed I say crazy things forgetting where it begun
I started collecting my hurt going a long time back
Defenseless I show it sometimes all gloomy and black

I am sorry but there are days I can't laugh or smile
Taking cover I may hide without going the extra mile
I feel like drowning and emotions threaten to overflow
It's hard to stay focused when carrying a big load very slow

Those days are my personal penitentiary I can't outrun
I am really vulnerable and very easily I become undone
Please understand that it's difficult to surface and start new
On my off days please just love me - and help me through
