Sometimes We Are These
i am like
a pole
my hands
are folded
like
a letter
inside
an envelope
i possess
height
but i have
never
touched
my tip
i look at you
we are so
apart
and you simply
look
like a trail of
an ant

Eating A Bullet
Speaking to ghosts
Sitting next to the soldiers of the past.
Where did we go so wrong?
Why is it taking so long?
A new discovery.
A new dream.
Building something not as dull as it seems.
I wrote it all down in a letter.
Sent it in a red envelope.
That has been stained by these hands.
To quick to the conclusion.
Where did the time go.
Speaking to the ones I love most.
Telling them I did the best I could.
Knowing that it no longer even matters.
I'm of the wrong time and age.
A hippie at heart.
Loving the world as its being torn apart
Divide and conquer.
That is what I see today.
Playing all their silly games.
I will not par take.
I wrote it all down in a letter.
Sent it in a red envelope.
That has been stained by these hands.
To quick to the conclusion.
Where did the time go.
I want to take in all your pain.
I want to take in all your hate.
I want to take in all your anger.
Just let me eat all this suffering in one gulp.
Swallow it all down.
Hold it deep inside.
And just maybe I can make it to the other side.
A place where I can rest my head
Without worrying about all of you.
And what you must be going through.
I wrote it all down in a letter.
Sent it in a red envelope.
That has been stained by these hands.
To quick to the conclusion.
Where did the time go.
The after life must be nice.
But at what price.
Will my helping hand ever suffice.
Everybody wants something and nobody is willing to give up anything.
So take it from me.
Give me the lashings.
Make me wear the crown of thorns.
Inflict every evil known to man.
Just leave them alone.
Let me be the victim of your ignorance.
Hate me because I want you to.
I wrote it all down in a letter.
Sent it in a red envelope.
That has been stained by these hands.
To quick to the conclusion.
Where did the time go.
I will never stand for it.
I will jump in the middle every time.
Not to pick sides.
But to lye defenseless for someone else.
Me before the child.
Me before the mother.
Me before the father.
A savior of none, but a victim from it all.
My daily life will not be measured by thing I did for myself.
But instead what I did for you.
Not because you asked.
I don't care if its what you wanted.
A forced sacrifice.
Solid as a block of ice.
I wrote it all down in a letter.
Sent it in a red envelope.
That has been stained by these hands.
To quick to the conclusion.
Where did the time go.
I'm sorry just run.
I take the brunt of it.
Its not my fault but I don't even care.
Sometimes you have to do things out of love.
Even if it means I will die.
It's not even my fight.
That's why I will just be another punching bag.
As the lights dim.
I know soon my life will end.
I wrote it all down in a letter.
Sent it in a red envelope.
That has been stained by these hands.
To quick to the conclusion.
Where did the time go.

Special Delivery
The postman got himself in to a bit of a mess:
And he delivered a letter to the wrong address.
The intended recipient would feel a lot better,
When, in her hand, she was holding the letter.
When she opened that letter, intended for her,
Emotions inside her would soon start to stir.
The letter had travelled across many a mile;
To her face, it would bring a great big smile.
The letter was from a soldier in Afghanistan:
Maybe it bore news from her beloved man?
I am sure that she cried when he was deployed.
Receiving the letter, she would be so overjoyed.
The light blue letter had travelled all that way;
I was sure it would make the young lady's day.
From her boyfriend she would be dying to hear;
Receiving his letter would bring her much cheer.
I imagined the message written from his heart,
Helping to bridge the gap, during their time apart.
I pictured him writing, while rockets flew overhead.
She would re-read many times, all that he had said.
Holding that letter, made me stop and think:
With that soldier, I felt a strange kind of link.
Looking at the envelope, I held in my hands,
Her emotions, I suddenly began to understand.
I thought about the couple's mix of emotions,
During their time, parted by the mighty oceans.
I thought about how he would wish he was here,
And how they had both shed some secret tears.
Hearing from him, she would cry tears of relief.
I bet he signed his name with kisses underneath.
To her, the letter would be a wonderful sight,
And she would sleep well in her bed that night.

Vice President, Chauffeur, Butler In One Day
It was the year 1989,
I was in my twenties looking quite fine,
older man Dave would use pen to sign,
contract to prevent envelope co.
from printing my greeting card Valentine.
Harvey who wrote “Swim with the Sharks”
had a salesman I left scared in the dark.
Salesman didn’t really know,
contract that says not to show.
To make this happen
I went to the Secretary of State,
Incorporated under
Sue Chevalier Originals
as the name.
Then I bought a suit for big tall Dave,
made him my
Vice President, Chauffeur, Butler
all in one day.
Driving down highway 280 we did get lost,
but luckily we found the envelope office.
Company door handle was in big gold letter M,
I walked through it with Dave my friend.
Going into a board room with world map on the wall,
sitting at a large board room table amazed with it all.
Then salesman walks in with himself and no pen,
I pull out a fancy one which I did lend.
Then Dave, salesman and me all did sign,
a Confidentiality Agreement sealing this date in time!
Laughing with a Score representative whose retired & old,
he said “Envelope co. can’t touch my designs with a 10 foot pole.”

His letter.
The letter has come at last.
You have been waiting for days.
You open the envelope with
Both excitement and anxiety
Gripping you tight. His script
Is as per norm: clear, well written
With that slanting at the end of words.
He hasn’t signed with love or left
Those flying bird kisses. You see
Meaning between words, not those
He’s written, but what it was he
Meant to say, but hasn’t. You skip
Words on matters trite. You read
Deeply on the words that mention
You or how he feels. You hold his
Letter tightly between fingers of
Both hands. The page shakes.
He doesn’t say he loves you or
Speak of that night of sexual passion.
You fold the letter carefully; place
It in the pocket of your dress. You
Gaze out the window at the passing
Crowds below. It isn’t what he writes
That troubles you, but what he leaves
Unsaid that brings you now so low.

In a coffin
Hands folded over the chest
she lies forever stretched out
as if death out of the blue holds her calm
and nothing will wake her up,
from the last sleep folding coldly round her
and strangely changed from princess to rotting dirt.
Hands folded over the chest
she lies forever stretched out.
with no fingers clenching hot around mine
and drawing me nearer,
no arms embracing me to her body
and I am totally alone
and stare at hands folded over her chest.

Letter To Heaven
An old man was sitting at his table one day
Writing a letter to pass time away
His little granddaughter climbed up on his knee
Saying wont you please write a letter for me
Oh what must I say in this letter I pray
Tell mommy I miss her since she went away
I coming to see her real soon I hope
He choked back a big lump that rose in his throat
He sealed it and wrote on that big envelope
To God up in heaven youll get it I hope
He stamped it and handed it to her to mail
Her big eyes were shining her little face pale
She was crossing the street to the box oer the way
And when she stepped out never looked either way
A big auto hit her and sped away fast
The little girls prayers had been answered at last
The postman was passing and picked up the note
Addressed to the master and these words he spoke
Straight up into heaven this letter did go
Shes happy up there with her mommy I know

Your Letter
I saw a letter lying on the floor
I couldn't help but look inside
Thought it was something that you must've left
Left there for me to find
All your words were on that page
All my dreams came true that day
I found
[chorus:]
Your letter...
Your letter...
It said you loved me
But you didn't know the words to say
It said you never knew that you could ever feel this way
It said you only wish someday that i would feel the same
In your letter
Your letter
I guess it just never occured to me
That you would feel the way i did
You kept the sweetest secret from my heart
You kept those feelings in
Though you never showed a sign
Give a clue to what i'd find
Inside
[chorus]
I was so happy that i almost cried
To think that you would think of me that way
It's like you took my sweetest dream
And made that dream come true
I would be with you
Always...
I saw a name i didn't recognize
I felt the tears come to my eyes
Seeing that the love that you've been longing for
Was another love, not mine
No, you never showed a sign
But it was right there in the lines
Inside
Your letter
Your letter
It said you loved him
But you didn't know the words to say
It said you never knew that you could ever feel this way
It said you only wish someday that he would feel the same
In your letter
Your letter
I saw a letter lying on the floor...

A Contemplation Upon Extinction....
it will be too
unlikely
for one at this prime age
his pink
youth
to start glimpsing about
the face of
extinction
one says it will be
unbecoming
in fact, too premature
and simply
sad
when one tumbles however
and bleeds
and feels the pain
of an injury
one realizes a hint
into the possibility of
an incoming
death
one contemplates upon it
like a folded
letter
whose miserable content
makes you
read it over and over again
deep in your heart
you tell yourself
'this is real and i will
be next'....

Help! !
'PLEASE DO NOT BEND' was written in red,
on the envelope. That's what it said.
So to pick up this letter,
is a real upsetter,
As when it came through the door,
it landed on the floor.

Je t aime beaucoup
the path between our eyes has somehow split.
tonight's kiss was the seal to the envelope.
i as the messenger must deliver..
on my quest to send this letter
where love told of endless fairy tales
the damsel in distress will one day return with your love notes as response
cold nights set aside for my travel.
our hands cross split between the cold...
as i wander through the streets i came to realize.
our fairy tale had no end.
it somehow closed the beginning
searching for a lifeless end.
poor messenger opens the envelope
soften pupils were set of to sea in an ocean of tears.
she noticed no stamp... she noticed no address
the notion of her heart seemed to have stopped as she sits on the cold cement floor
attempts to retrace her steps only to loose herself even more.
till this very day she sits tempting, thinking, remembering, regretting, her loss, her love, her life.

Pull back the envelope and let my confessions fly out,
Let this pulmonary love letter fall into your lap -
Or tear it up and devour it,
Press it and let it fill up your cup.
Just take it it's yours.

The Rising Long-Street(Envelope Quatrain)
Envelope Quatrain is a rhymed 4 line unit, 'the envelope' refers to the rhyme scheme abba. The bb is enveloped by the aa. An envelope can also be axxa with x being unrhymed.
The Rising Long-Street
Somewhat black somewhat grey
Somewhat bluing silvery the fluorescence
On an oath by lighted hands
Long street rises for the day
Darkled white in blackish grey barks
Here once there once but not witchy
Flower-thieves pillow their bags bunchy
Flee away while milk-man harks
Hymns and sings and rings to allay
The God in split-free spheres
Walks and jogs and runs in speedy spirits
Long street risen for the day
Puddled shades of sprinkled waters
Cheered kolams sheen and punchy
Wishes of good-morning up and stretchy
Life in Long street on in summer- blotters

Max Is Fixed.
I don’t know what that son
of a bitch said but it’s all lies
said Max I never touched his
lady I wouldn’t have touched
her with a proverbial barge pole
but he’s always had it in for me
that schmuck he thinks just because
he’s got himself a good job and
lives in a big house and drives a
posh car that I’m just slum waste
but I showed him when I knocked
on his door when he was at work
and his lady let me in to fix the
waste pipe and once I got it fixed
she put her arms about my waist
and pulled me onto the sofa and
began kissing me like some cat on
heat and I remembered seeing the
Degas painting on the wall one of
those ballet paintings and as she
unzipped my pants and entered in
I could hear Ella Fitzgerald singing
on the hifi her voice reaching inside
of me and up to the big blue sky.

Would Today Be Happier?
what if
i have let you touched me
if i have closed my eyes
and simply
worked on the feeling
what if
i simply let time
caress my
emptiness and
had it filled by
your
love
what if i just let the feeling
flow like a river
and never thought of the
the obstructions of
the conformity
what if i went with you
towards the deepest ocean
could i have made perhaps
a difference?
if i did not refuse it
would today be happier?
it took me years
to know that you have this space
inside my heart
reserved for you
my heart was then made of
stone.

I Dreamed.... (Hands)
i dreamed last night...
and all i could see were hands.
sometimes hard and calloused,
sometimes soft and feminine.
skilled hands, laborer's hands,
loving hands, nurturing hands....
fingers digging in the dirt,
fingers holding a pen.
fingers playing a piano,
fingers unbuttoning blouses.
hands extended, hands gripping the rope,
hands holding the shovel,
hands covered with resin.
hands folded in prayer,
hands balled into fists.
hands stuffed in empty pockets.
hands that define both history,
and destiny!
hands scarred and bruised,
hands covered with age spots.
hands that speak many languages.
hands that know mistakes, and failures.
hands that built fires,
hands that put fires out!
hands that wiped away tears,
that picked up trash,
and revealed souls....
whose hands?
my hands, your hands?
god's hands?
does it really matter?
hands engaged and involved,
in the very act of living!

The Letter
She retrieved the letter from the mail.
Seeing the handwriting
she grew instantly pale.
She'd not seen it for many years.
Seeing it again brought
back the tears.
Not one word that he had said
was lost in her,
inside her head.
Things were good for so long.
Remembering them again
seemed so wrong.
The letter sat on her desktop now.
Staring at it intently
she knew somehow
the letter was an attempt to rectify
blaming him alone
or even knowing why?
Two months passed and finally
she opened it. Her heart stood still.
For she did see
words of comfort, but words of woe.
'I'm sick my love
but before I go
I need to see you. Can you come?
I'm sorry my love.
What's done is done.'
He died while the letter
sat unread.
She kept the letter in her bed.
