Notes From Mambukal

i am learning
from the towering trees

i have seen the right of birds
to have a home

the co-existence of bats and
snakes

the essence of ripe fruits
that must remain on the ground
until they are rotten

when birds leave the seeds
after consuming all pulp
and flesh

the songs of birds
love calls
the hisses of snakes
the chants of earthworms

it was a night
when i dip my body to that hot spring
with healthy sulfur breaths
from volcanic
woman

when i make my self still
listening

always listening
and simply feeling what is warm
and tender

Not Like The Birds.

Mother said
there would be men

like that
and that they’d say

and do
those kinds of things

and looking back
over the months

he has behaved
as Mother predicted

right down
to the cheap flowers

and false promises
and the always

wanting sex
and to be alone

and that constant groan of
come on Honey

one more time
and yet

as you reflect on him
and his ways

and that look he has
when feeling put out

and the what maybe
the real him

when he doesn’t know
you’re studying

his features
and gestures

and listening to his words
you know

you shouldn’t be with him
but fly off

like the birds
but you’re not

like the birds at all
you’re just

a woman in love
and unsure

of the reasons why
so you’ll not be

like the birds
and make off to the sky.

When They Made Love Inside That Cramped Room...

when they made love
that evening
they heard the sounds of
the jungle: tiger mating
birds on love calls
under the trees
above some
elephants screaming
with joy
snakes hissing upon
each body
rubbing rubbers

inside their ears
sounds of new winds
fresh upon each leaf
on the forest trees.....

Birds of Spring

Birds of spring they
bring on so many things
sounds they send
to each other,

that only they
can understand
in their sweet
cheerful harmony.

Sweet smell in
the air this
beautiful april day
listening to these creatures.

Taking in the warmth
of the sun that
is so overdue, blue
skies beauty to the eye.

Birds in flight
from one tree
to the other, getting
ready to produce life.

Cool breezes this
day so fine to hear
birds of spring echoing
music to my ear.

Birds of spring
to many to mention you all,
Robbins, Wrens and Cardinals
or a few I see, oh so beautiful.

To hear their chirping
wondering what they're saying
at this moment
will sit here for awhile.

Sounds this day
so relaxing is it
to listen to these
birds of spring.

Woman’s Agenda

Flowers long to be visited by bees.
Ripe fruits long to be eaten by birds.
All trees house birds and animals for dung.
Women for men have their own agenda.

The Bless Of My Own Silence....

in this place
the first thing that i hear every morning
is the song of the birds
on top of trees
as they prepare to leave
after a night's sleep

as i open my window
and light is still young like some eyes blinking
i wonder
what are these birds up to
they do not build their nests here
they just come
spend a night and then leave and are back again
on the same hour of the same night

i try to ask more questions
that i myself have to answer
but then
something comes up within
the reasons do not really matter
it is their songs
the harmony with the wind
the joy of the trees
the bliss
of my own silence....

Set them free..They will multiply..

Watching the birds is real fun,
no need dime, only the time,
colorful birds to colored birds,
chirping birds to singing birds,
flying birds to walking birds,
cunning birds to love birds,
Watching birds is just a lesson,
making mind to have a vision.

collect the twigs to make the nest,
one by one, they think the best,
choose the right tree,
just high and free,
Making the nest perfect,
without any single defect,
The birds toil together or alone,
all day long until it is done.

I bought two love birds,
that were kept in a cage.
Hung the cage under the balcony,
above the reach of dogs not felony.
chirping disturbed their sleep,
Nikko, the dog set them free.
Only two flew away,
but I have a few dozens now,
making their nests,
right in front of me, on the trees.

Watching the birds is real fun,
no need dime, only the time.

Joy Of Spring

A Spring morning
A warm Breeze
doves cooing softly
Pollen dusted trees

A few brave violets
A red streaked dawn
A very early robin
Earthworms in the lawn

Spring peeper frogs
Smell of dogwood blossoms
Nature’s petroglyphs in muddy bogs
Footprints left by possums

Easter eggs and bonnets
Chocolate rabbits, Missing ears
Jelly beans and sonnets
Spilled easter baskets, children’s tears

Parades,
leafy bowers
Lemonades
Spring showers

Spring mornings
Warm breezes
Deep breaths
Allergic sneezes

Smell of Fresh blossoms
Sound of birds as they sing
Joy of life.. joy of being…
…Joy of Spring

My Heart Is Home To The Birds

My heart is home to the birds
Because God made my heart for the birds
And I am happy that the birds live inside of my heart
Because my heart is always warm and the birds will never die inside my Heart or they will never have to fly south to the winter
Also the birds will always be safe inside of my heart
Because nobody will be able to harm the birds

The Contrasts

cemented pavements
green grass

sounds of motorized cabs
songs of birds on the trees

towering skyscrapers
tall old mahogany trees

neon lights on city escapes
stars on moonlit skies

watching the mountains half covered with
morning mists
busy on TV for the serial stories

strolling on the white sandy beach
observing the behavior of seagulls

window shopping at the malls
watching 3D movies

eating deep fried chicken wings
licking very sweet strawberry ice cream

peeling the ripe mango
savoring the yellow juice feeling the pulp

watching the sunset from a high mountain
reading a best seller novel inside your room.

Sky's Bird

Do you still remember the color of the night,
How endless it seemed to go out to,
So stunning, yet frightnening its beauty was
Like a sky calling the birds, you can't resist its cry.
Another morning rises up,
As another dream falls down,
And even though I know its going to disappear,
I don't want to let go.
It's like the sun and moon,
Always going around and around,
Never meeting up with one another.
The shadow of reality,
Cast this illusion onto my life,
So I don't what's real and what isn't,
Holding on tight, I never plan to let go of my beliefs!
I believe in a night that draws you in,
No matter how hard you fight back,
Even though it may grow tiring,
You'll always run back like the birds do to the sky.
Escaping its grasp is inevitable,
If you resist too much, you might lose yourself,
But even though it was once your home,
You'll always have a place to fly back to like the birds to the sky,
Like the birds, like the birds, do to the sky,
Like the birds like the birds, do to the sky.

A Bird Sanctuary (Vedanthangal-TamilNadu, India)

The calls of birds
Of hues varied
lull all to sleep.
Vedanthangal(Shelter of the Hunters) ,
the rain fed tank,
is the haven for
Cormorants,
the Night Herons,
the Darters, Ducks
Grey Pelicans
and the Moor Hens….

Birds from continents diverse
nest on the Kadamba Trees,
feed, breed and fly around,
dip in water, catch fish
and hop to the trees in glee.

O, that sadist hurls a fish above
and takes it back within its bills!
The world of birds has a lot to teach.
The black, white and grey birds perch side by side.

Birds, plants and animals
give man his essential needs.
But he cuts their throats to fill his bellies.

X4

must we imagine
a place away from what our hands
have long held as home?

must we still dream of those
islands
with white sands and
exotic rainbow birds?

the feet have rooted and
our bodies are old trees

the fruits are teeming
and ripe for harvest
the migrating birds are
here to be catered

happiness flows here
like springs without winters
everything here is the
fun of summer times

on domestic dreams
sleep have i,
clipped wings, bubble
world
here is this chosen
earthly eternity

I Weave My Cocoon, Only For Own Metamorphosis!

Strangely life looks like a web,
Knitted by Sunlight,
Light of distant stars,
And light Reflected by moon and planets..

I could have survived and cut the web,
but the web is strengthened by more layers,
May be light absorbed and reflected by me,
And bouncing back from my Kiths and kins,
Mosquitoes and bugs,
My own blood relatives,
Sharing my blood or may be I am sharing thiers!
Life is like ground under fruit bearing tree,
Full of smashed fruits by its own fall,
Half eaten, half ripe, may be fully ripen and may be rotten!

Delicious and sweet fruits it bear,
Sometimes by cosmic friends, parrots and bats,
May be monkeys and niebours,
Test me and tease me,
My ability to access the fruits,
They have better nose and eyes than me,
They observe changes faster than me,
They peck or take a bite,
before I can wake up and see,
Birds are better than bats and monkeys,
Birds just eat enough and fly,
Monkeys and bats are horrible,
They taste one, pluck many,
Take to their friends and relatives,
And throw on their path
as a route map to others,
Rotten fruits smell bad,
Flies and mosquitoes,
Flies spread disease, are better,
Mosquitoes spread disease
and feast on my blood too,
Just like juice after meal!
All these knit web around!

All I have that is my own nest,
My own shining shine,
Where I weep, laugh and workout my own plans,
Which becomes my shield,
And what look like shield is my own cocoon,
Where I sleep or meditate,
Only come out completely metamorphing myself,
cutting cocoon With flying colours!

I feelfree now with coloured wings,
Antennae and suckers,
I fly over flowers,
But gather nectar and I help flowers to live fruitful!
But I am innocent
I sing and dance in air,
With my coloured wings
I am a flying flower
Found in garden or in wild!

Spring Come

Spring Come
I need you
I am tired of the cold weather
I am old like a wash cloth
My face is white like cottage cheese
I am fading away
Lost in my own world
So selfish
I want more each day
Spring come
Spring come
I need you now
I can’t wait anymore for you
Hurry and come
No birds singing any more
Without those songs I am sad
I depend of your songs birds

Still Waiting

In my garden of heart
Birds sing and die
Flowers bloom and wither
Fruits become ripe and rotten waiting for you!

How many tears dropp from my eyes
You don’t think about it
You don’t know about it
You won’t find the bottom of my love
Even if you search!

O my love for you
Gives so much pain
Gives so many poems
Why don’t you come and see for yourself?

Why there’s drought in the land of my body
You don’t think about it
You don’t know about it
You will understand it
Only
If you
Find me
In
Meditation!

When the birds fly

When the birds fly
the mind opens its eye
the heart looks up to the sky
the birds fly.

The birds fly south
the ear opens its mouth
the nose sees summer
the kids they are playing out...

When the birds fly
we dream our words dont die.
Reborn with a babys cry
the birds fly leaving stars
they stay in the night,
we are the birds
we escape to the light.

Making The Choices...

from my rotting belly
words like words are coming out
no one likes them

worms are beguiling
i am misled myself
because from my rotten belly
the worms without my minding
have become
tiny butterflies

then they fly towards my hair
which have become some kind of little flowers
and i can smell the sweet scents of chili

i have forgotten my body
i have become a forest with all these safari stuff
and orchids and wild birds

to my big surprise of course
because i am never asleep i am awake

oh, this workings of the mind
from a rotten body, this junk of our history
shall rise
the wonders of our future, a forest, birds, safari, rivers,
clouds, skies,

everything, everything, you simply have to make the choices...

Spring In Victoria

The bottlebrushes laden with crimson flowers
And there is warmth in the October breeze
And with her Spring has brought her blooms and greenery
And birds are singing on the sunlit trees.

Spring in Victoria my favourite time of year
The birds build their nests and raise their families
The weather not too cool or not too warm
A high today of 17 degrees.

The distinct call sounds of the magpie lark
And the Indian mynah sings his scratchy song
Some birds are easy to identify
And by their voices you never get them wrong.

Spring in Victoria is a time of bloom
And sun shines brightly after the brief showers
The fruit trees cloaked in blossoms of pale pink
And gardens look resplendent in their flowers.

My favourite season is always the spring
And spring in Victoria is now in her prime
The wild birds sing and gardens are in bloom
But Nature's beauty fades with the passage of time.

The last thing I have, to offer you

Not long back
I was standing tall with
My branches spread
Upwards, downwards and
In all directions sideward

It was green all around my trunk
My leaves glittering in the bright sun
They fell just after winter
Only to strike again with full vigour

I used to blossom in yellow
With pendant like red dots in the middle
And my flowers shared in secret
The whispers of young lovers in my town
Some offered my flowers to their gods
And felt blessed by the divine
These flowers attracted insects
And colourful butterflies
Who returned intoxicated
Totally nectar drunk

I bore cherry red fruits
They were feast to sparrows
Squirrels and crows
Children of the town
Squeezed my fruits
And enjoyed the sweet flesh
Coated over the big seed inside

My branches housed nests
With young birds waiting for
Their mother's return to feed them
And my thin branches helped
These young birds launch their
First flights under their mother’s guard

At times over my dark rough bark
Snakes ran up to the nests
To prey on the eggs and young ones
I was happy never once these snakes succeeded

My roots were ever busy
Tapping soil nutrients and
Sending them up to each of my tip

My leaves waved and ensured
Regular flow of oxygen rich cool air
Adding comfort to those who chose
To rest a while beneath my mammoth shadow

It was all pleasure for me
To see many around me in comfort
With whatever I can offer to them

All these came to a sudden end
When an unkind lightning struck me
I received the shock of my life
A hot wave ran through the entire me
From the top to the root bottom

And what happened
All functions in me
Came to an abrupt end
My leaves turned yellow and brown
To leave me and they fell in silence
My branches dried and turned black
The fruits did not ripe
I started drying up with no more
Supply of water from the ground

I am stark naked standing like a
Threatening skeleton
Birds, insects and people
Do not visit me
Am I turning useless

But let people know I have some thing
Also to offer
Delay further not and cut me
Burn me and enjoy the warmth
Of my heat and of my burning heart
The last thing I have, to offer you
