My Own Worth
when you begin
to measure the length of my
worth
with a tape
or weigh me with
your own scales
or wrap me with your
cloth to asses the
volume of my being
when the numbers
come from your mouth
i begin to feel
the limitless bounds
of my incoming
protest
for you are just my peer
my co-equal
and here you are
measuring me by
your own
standards and i ask
the world:
who are you?

Another Day
What seems like such a winter's tale
Lightening runs through the fallen flames
By kneeling down we're here to pray
At that point forsaken unafraid
I only wanna feel you being strong
I only wanna feel you being strong
Call me up and let's begin
Call me up and let's begin
Another day
Call me up and let's begin
Call me up and let's begin
You done that to me
Feel my breath go cold and calm
My pride is last and I sin again
And all the seasons change their scent
A year of hell they come against my head once more
I only wanna feel you being strong
I only wanna feel you being strong
Call me up and let's begin
Call me up and let's begin
Another day
Call me up and let's begin
Call me up and let's begin
You done that to me
INSTRUMENTAL
Call me up and let's begin

Because the results are expressed in numbers, it is easy to make the mistake of thinking that the intelligence test is a measure like a foot ruler or a pair of scales. It is, of course, a quite different sort of measure. Intelligence is not an abstraction like length and weight; it is an exceedingly complicated notion - which nobody has yet succeeded in defining.

The Chase
you chase the numbers
and you are at a loss
how can the numbers feel?
you are in a discomfort
in some fits
and not at ease with yourself
because you believe in
numbers and like horses you
want to capture each
with a rope of your
tired imagination
disregard the numbers and begin
to believe in the words
those syllables
even in the simplest form
of the comma,
the period.

Let The Day Begin
Released on cd single have I told you lately, 1993
(michael been)
Heres to the babies in a brandnew world
Heres to the beauty and the stars
Heres to the travellers on open road
Heres to the dreamers in the bars
Heres to the teachers in the crowded rooms
Heres to the workers in the field
Heres to the preachers of the sacred world
Heres to the drivers on the wheel
Heres to you my little love
With blessings from above
Now let the day begin
Heres to you my little love
With blessings from above
Now let the day begin, (let) the day begin, ha
Heres to the winners of the human race
Heres to the losers in the game
Heres to the soldiers of the bitter war
Heres to the war that bears their name
Heres to you my little love
With blessings from above
Now let the day begin, the day begin, the day ( )
Heres to the doctors in the healing world
Heres to the loved ones in their care
Heres to the strangers on the streets tonight
Heres to the lonely everywhere
Heres to the wisdom from ( )
Heres to the lions in their cage
Heres to the struggle of the ( )
Heres to the clothing of the age
Heres to you my little love
With blessings from above
Now let the day begin
Heres to you my little love
With blessings from above
Now let the day begin, the day begin
Heres to you my little love
With blessings from above
Now let the day begin, let the day begin, let the day, oh yeah
Now let the day begin, oh yeah
Heres to you my little love
With blessings from above
Now let the day begin, let the day begin, let the day, ( )

Waking
WAKING
There are so many dreams no one ever realizes
We wake and try to understand where we are
What we have done in all the years seems folly
Nothing can justify this morning or the day to come
We have forgotten who we are and where we have been
The prayer that helps us and connects us back to God
Revives
We begin to live or try to begin to live
Our names are not known and our work uncelebrated
Our songs are not sung and our labors not blessed
We look out and up at the sky and feel light
We do not know how or why or in what way
But we understand that God has given mornings to begin again
We will take the first step and word and taste and sound
And all we feel and be will begin to revive
We will connect ourselves again with where we are
We will begin to work
And as the day slowly comes back to us we will come back to ourselves
Every day is a new beginning and a world G-d will make
We too are that world and that beginning
In all the many days of blessings and the years of this life
God has enabled us to begin again
This time now too is now different
And these words say we are here now for this morning
So long as this morning is in us.

She Is Rising
Those pretty feet are stuck deep in the ground
And all that junk just keeps coming
Must be the time to rearrange it all
Another place another time has called
She is rising above this world
She is heading for an open door
She is rising above this world
She is heading for an open door
Give it up let her in
All she wants is to begin
Give it up let her in
All she wants is to begin
One day he wakes up to a different drum
Rhythm coming from so far away
He had no time to tell anyone
His hips were moving to a perfect sway
He is rising above this world
He is heading for an open door
He is rising above this world
He is heading for an open door
Give it up let him in
All he wants is to begin
Give it up let him in
All he wants is to begin
Give it up let her in
All she wants is to begin
She is rising above this world
She is heading for an open door
Give it up let her in
All she wants is to begin
Give it up let her in
All she wants is to begin
Give it up (she is rising)
Let him in (he is rising)
All he wants is to begin (all I want is to begin)
Give it up (she is rising)
Let him in (he is rising)
All he wants is to begin (all he wants is to begin)
She is rising
He is rising
All I want
All I want is to begin
She is rising
He is rising
Give it up
We are rising
She is rising
She is rising

Good Friday
A recipe for thought:
Take a pair of scales
as large as the boundless human mind,
and into one scale
pour all the goodness in the world that you can see
carefully
and into the other,
all the evil in the world that you can see;
into the first scale now add
all the joy that you have known
(the joy of others you can never measure)
and into the other, all the misery,
(the misery of others you can never measure) :
into the first, add all the laughter you can remember,
and into the second, all the tears;
and now, from the cupboards of your heart,
add what you will
to either scale:
the hopes and fears
of all the years.
now give one day each year
to the watching of these scales
and see if slowly, gently, as we watch
with all our love
the scales
move

From The Beginning...To The End
From the beginning...
We all feed on those perceptions fed.
To feel an acceptance...
Of a normality taught,
That is compared.
And when those comparisons begin to conflict,
Some with nagging curiosities begin to investigate...
The validity of those perceptions that restrict.
Some settle for those teachings taught to them.
While others elect to peer over fences...
To view the doings of their neighbors.
And begin to confide in the opinions,
Of those who become trusted and loyal friends
It seems beyond the boundaries of families,
Or those we accept before adventuring...
Outside of those limits set.
An expansion of our minds happens.
And this broadens with a widened consciousness.
Only to offend those with beliefs they wish kept protected.
To keep closed in and unbending they defend....
To the end!

Weighing The Dolors From The Glories....
he got a measuring tape
and measured the length of possible regret
the volume of remorse
and the chapters of tragedy
all possibilities that his personality can
afford
all that conscience can buy
and he found out
that the amount of happiness obtainable is obviously
lesser compared to the risk of
isolation, the insomniac nights
the cost of psychiatric sessions
and the prescriptive drugs
the wide ocean of guilt and the storms of the raging furies
of myths
him against universe, the humanity,
how can he ever survive?
and so he stopped,
went back home, sat on the chair facing the window
half-open
his eyes are empty
his words are choking him
he is gagging
to the last scene that it was him that used the gun against himself
he did not do it.

It's - as opposed to tape where you have a magnetic tape that's excited by frequencies that you hit, digital was a process where musical sounds are transferred to numbers and stored as numbers.

You Begin Again
Sometimes it's hard to believe
How simple life can be
Just when you think
You'll never reach the end
You're finally round the bend and see
There's no need to cry anymore
Life's better than before
Yesterday fades away into the past
The pain you thought would last
Is gone
[Chorus:]
And you begin again
Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win
But you begin again
Even though you're heart is breaking
In time, the sun will shine
And you'll begin again
You'll begin again
Life's bittersweet mystery
Never tells what will be
You can create your own reality
And make your dreams come true
It's really up to you
If you begin again
Sometimes you lose, sometimes you win
But you begin again
Even though your heart is breaking
In time, the sun will shine
And you'll begin again
You'll begin again
When you begin again
[Chorus]

If 1 And 2 Were Equal
If 1 and 2 were equal
we'd have as many hearts as fists
If 1 and 2 were equal
we'd have confused shopping lists
If 1 and 2 were equal
there'd be less phone numbers to dial
If 1 and 2 were equal
noon would surely last a while
If 1 and 2 were equal
there'd be a nose under each eye
If 1 and 2 were equal
you couldn't say no to 'you and I? '
If 1 and 2 were equal
I think I'd be much more happy
'cause if 1 and 2 were equal
I would not be so lonely

What you need to do is get that tape measure out, and start measuring that gut. Then you start working out and you start eating properly till that gut gets down close to it was when you were in your 20's. Then you'll find out what your weight should be.

What Are The Wages Of Labour Journey
My so-called friends you dawdle
Having in hands,
Khaiwat, Khasra, Latha and Gardawari,
Your Jareeb is not long enough to measure,
The length two farms which my father
Tilled walking and walking behind yokes of oxen,
Placing his hands on the handle of plough,
The same hands harder than stones.
Walking and walking behind yokes of oxen,
He measured more than half of the world,
But you would not sense gashing pain
Of his lacerated heels.
My mother too while bringing on the farms,
Lasi and bread, and carrying bundles of grass,
Got her feet worn out, got her neck twisted.
While measuring, totaling these two farms
The Jareeb of my and your breath would finish
But the labour-journey of my father
In ten vegas of land would not cease.
Khaiwat: A unit of land comprising on khatoonies, Khasras, smaller units.
Latha: A map of lands prepared by Revenue Department on white cotton cloth.
Jareeb: a measurement comprising on ten pieces of chains each is called Karam, and one Karam is equal to 5.5 feet.
Gardawari: Official record of ownership of lands prepared after four years.
Vega: A piece of land measuring four kanal.

The world shakes again
and people begin to count the numbers
they forget
what is important is always the quality
and, for which,
no matter what the numbers are,
they do not matter anymore.

Limitless
Limitless the sky is
All its lies
Spread further to the universe
Limitless the sky
Is and I do not know
Where to start or to end
The sky is one big circle
Limitless is
Its deception.
I really thought the sky
Is blue and orange
I proved it once
The sky is dust
Limitless is my misunderstanding
Of the sky
Limitless is the sky
I have been deceived the sky is
Limitless.

Protected as Their Best Interest
People divide amongst themselves,
With a choosing of 'sides'.
And those 'sides' subdivide within to begin,
Decisions that are made...
As to who is the one most popular,
To represent their 'sensibilities'.
And those sensibilities are never collectively,
Respected.
And those who become upset,
Begin to protest that their needs are not met.
To eventually try to unify themselves,
In the maintaining to keep their pretentions...
Protected as their best interest.

When Numbers Get Serious
I have a number in my head
Though I dont know why its there
When numbers get serious
You see their shape everywhere
Dividing and multiplying
Exchanging with ease
When times are mysterious
Serious numbers are easy to please
Take my address
Take my phone
Call me if you can
Heres my address
Heres my phone
Please dont give it to some madman
Hey hey, whoa whoa
Complicated life
Numbers swirling thick and curious
You can cut them with a knife
You can cut them with a knife
Two times two is twenty-two
Four times four is forty-four
When numbers get serious
They leave a mark on your door
Urgent. urgent.
A telephone is ringing in the hallways
When times are mysterious
Serious numbers will speak to us always
That is why a man with numbers
Can put your mind at ease
Weve got numbers by the trillions
Here and overseas
Hey hey, whoa whoa
Look at the stink about japan
All those numbers waiting patiently
Dont you understand?
Dont you understand?
So wrap me
Wrap me
Wrap me do
In the shelter of your arms
I am ever your volunteer
I wont do you any harm
I will love innumerably
You can count on my word
When times are mysterious
Serious numbers
Will always be heard
When times are mysterious
Serious numbers will always be heard
And after all is said and done
And the numbers all come home
The four rolls into three
The three turns into two
And the two becomes a
One
