It is the same reason

Why she sings, why she sings out loud at night
When all the neighbors need the peace and quiet

Why she keeps nagging me why she keeps going to
Church everyday why she keeps some dogs in the house

Why she keeps her garden why she keeps an updated menu
Why she sleeps late and wakes up early why she keeps away

From nosy neighbors now why she buys so many shoes
Why she keeps on buying more bags why she scolds the maids

Why she keeps all the things to herself why she experiences
Nightmares why she escapes to the malls and shops all day

Why she keeps asking me what time is it now?

But complaints are voiced and heard.
Suggestions they have none.

Grant Us Peace, Father of Abraham, Isaac and Ishmael

Grant us peace,
that we may not oppress our neighbors
Grant us justice,
that we may not enslave our neighbors
Grant us sanity,
that we may not torture our neighbors
Grant us mercy,
that we may not murder our neighbors
Grant us conscience
that we may not expel our neighbors

Grant us love,
that we may hunger for truth
Grant us discernment
that we may know what is ours, and what is not
Grant us decency
that we may return what we stole
Grant us courage
that we may admit what we’ve done
Give us strength to atone.

Ask only
that we end our silence.

My Heart Sings

My heart sings.
My heart sings the songs of happiness.
My heart sings the songs of joy.
My heart sings the songs of peace.
My heart sings the songs of the Blues.
My heart sings the songs of the Gospel.
My heart sings the songs of good news.
My heart cries a melody for all to hear.
My heart sings the harmonies of love.
My heart sings a song of beauty
that comes from the Thorne Birds
just before they die.
My heart sings songs to keep me alive.
My heart sings songs for as long as it beats.
My heart sings forever.
My heart sings haluwasa.

For The Happy Housemaid...

early morning
the housemaid turns on the radio
in full volume that the
neighbors know that
she is already awake
and cooking breakfast

the house smells fried
egg and bacon and
steamed rice

when i come out my room
she smiles and
turns off the radio and
says that breakfast is
ready

only to be told that
no one likes to eat breakfast

(unlike the two the housemaid
likes it much to eat all these matters
alone by herself,
she is attuned like a loud radio
early morning
and she does not mind what
the housemaids' neighbors say)

She Is In Love

she is in love, how can i not notice it?
she wakes up early, goes into her garden
and sings a beautiful song, very early this morning.
she waters her roses, and feeds the chickens.
she cooks breakfast. The eggs are fresh.
The meat well cooked and so tasty.
The coffee smells the aroma of coffee.
What else?
The room is clean, the kitchen so well kept.
My polo shirt is ready, my socks, handkerchief,
my underwear, my shoes, my tie, they're all
placed on bed for me to wear today.
The room smells with perfume
Her favorite, Victoria's secret.
She kisses me twice now, and another one
before i leave.
Life is beautiful, she repeats it again and again.
She stays in the house now. No travels this time.
No loafing with friends.

Tell me that i am conceited.
She is still in love with me. Now on our 12th year of marriage.
I look again at our wedding ring. The tiny diamond there still glitters.
Against the sunlight. Against all the odds.

A Visit From Diotima l

MM Diotima!
D Who were you expecting?
MM No one. What are you doing here? What time is it?
D It's only three. Sorry. I brought you my latest love song.
MM Diotima, you know I don't like love songs.
D That's your problem. Everyone else does. Move over.
MM Can't it wait till morning? Oof...be careful!
D No. It needs to be heard by moonlight.
MM The moon is on holiday. Back soon.
D You don't want to hear my love song?
MM Is it long?
D Not at all.
MM (sighs) Well, ok, then, shoot.
D I'm glad you asked. Here it is: Ready?
(sings)
'Our love is so unusual-
Different, different, different-
Different, different, so unusual...
MM Ah, Diotima...
D What? Do you like it? Then it goes:
(continues singing)
Unusual, different, very different-
Hey, you make me feel like throwing myself off a cliff...
MM Diotima!
D Different, different, different...
When I think of you, I...
MM Diotima, that'll do.
D Wait, here comes the best part-
(sings)
Different, different, different...
MM Diotima, it's three o'clock. The neighbors. There are laws.
D After ten, the laws are just suggestions.
MM You haven't met my neighbors. You haven't met Louise in 7A.
She'll think you're me.
D Good. We can invite her in. Does she like poetry, too?
MM Diotima, it's three o'clock in the morning! You'd have to be
Ovid, himself...
D Ach, poor Ovid. Did I ever tell you about the time we had dinner?
MM Unh-unh. What happened?
D Nothing! A big, fat zero! These love poets-all talk.
MM Diotima, inspiration aside, you can't just...

We Sing History

History sings, sings what?
Violence? Peace? No.
History sings of truth…
History sings of facts,
which becomes music to our ears.
Like birds chirping
early in the morning.
We learn it. We treasure it.
We sing it… we sing it.
We became part of it.

It was always burning
since the world’s been turning…

History is an endless song.
Distressing, cheerful.
So many cries, so many deaths.
They fought for freedom,
we fight for peace.
Have we won?

Haven’t they heard we won the war
what do they keep on fighting for?

History sings of truth…
History sings of facts,
which becomes music to our ears?
Like stars gleaming
in the dark naked sky.
It’s always there.
So why sing it? Why hear it?
Why learn it? Why treasure it?
Because…
we’re part of it….

Door To Door

Find me out awalkin, time the whistle starts acallin,
Maybe stoppin early, knockin at your door.
Take so long to answer, lord knows it aint the milkman
Could be stoppin early, sellin door to door.
Heres my latest sample; like to show you how to use it.
First, you pull the curtain while I spread some here.
Wipe the surface gently, try to use a circle motion,
Safe for all your problems, and my price is fair.
This stuffll get the stain out if you use it loosely wadded;
This herell take the pain out and wont mess your hair.
Place your order early cause you know Im in a hurry;
Your neighbors in her doorway, wont you sign right here.
Place your order early cause you know Im in a hurry;
Your neighbors in her doorway, wont you sign right here.
Man is on the last train, all that work and no play,
Could be stoppin early, knockin at your door.
Time for me to head on; pack my kit and so long;
Catch you bright and early sellin door to door.
This stuffll get the stain out if you use it loosely wadded;
This herell take the pain out and wont mess your hair.
Place your order early cause you know Im in a hurry;
Your neighbors in her doorway, wont you sign right here.
Place your order early cause you know Im in a hurry;
Your neighbors in her doorway, wont you sign right here.

There Is This Voice That Always Speaks

inside me there is always this little voice
that always speaks
everyday

it simply sings
a song
that i barely know

like a little bird
inside my chest
every
morning when i just wake up

it sings of freedom
and love
it sings of being
true

it hints
about love
and
happiness

everyday
like the air i breathe

Wish List (votes for sale)

It’s election time again
Picture postcards in the mail
Election time again
On every campaign trail
Election time, election time, election time

It’s election time,
A photo opportunity everywhere
Yes election time,
Cleaner streets and cleaner air,
Election time, election time, election time

In every seat across the nation
Never seen so much enthusiasm
So many nice people wanting to shake my hand
Tell me they’ll do all they can
To fill my wish list

It’s election time,
And they’re all promising to do more
Yes election time
Than they did before
Election time, election time, election time

I’d love to have a house by the sea
Handpick my neighbors to suit me
Drive a car on my own road
Free education for young and old
A health system that doesn’t tear at the seems
Throw in world peace by two thirteen (2013)

What's It Gonna Be

It use to be
Early mornings late nights
Partying everyday all day
My phone constantly ringing
'Ashley where you at'
Out and about all day
Never ever home
Enough money to buy a car
Never saved dime
Buying bag after bag
A couple bottles here and there
Never no time for bullshit
Always on the go
Catch me if you can
Now its
Watch the sunrise then go to bed
Up all night long
Parties once in awhile
My phone never ringing
Home all day long
Not enough money
To even get a pack of gum
Still got bags after bags
Still a couple bottles here and there
Still no time for bullshit
Never on the go
Constantly watching my little cousin
Now anybody can catch me

An Oarsman

Where is the coast?
Just in the boat
With no one around
He sings even a song!

In western horizon
The king 'Sun' sleeps alone
Merry clouds go brown
(So far) He sings the song!

A shower of rain
Can't let him pain
Miss.Windy starts to frown
(So far) He sings the song!

With force of angry waves
Even rocks can be damaged
How about his wooden bound?
(So far) He sings the song!

His old rudder shapes him solo
How to manage to and fro
Further rowing, no allowed
(So far) He sings the song!

Oh, my dear oarsman!
I wanna know your song
Give people to be strong
Like you, never down! !

You've Been Booted So Scoot

Mismatchd mates fight.
In arguments..
Over who did what wrong.
Inspite of who is right.

And which one makes more sense...
To convince the one incensed!
Both are stubborn infidels,
Yelling to end a relationship...
That has been sitting precariously,
On a dubious fence.

While anyone listening in on this,
Wishes they both shut up.
And seal their lips.
Instead of making loud noises.
And breaking up stuff in fits.

Anyone listening to this nonsense sits down.
Or creeps to the wall without making a sound.
To hear very carefully...
With hopes the floor doesn't creek.
As they tip toe around...
To get their ears close as possible,
To what is near...
And going down!

'I saw you cheating on me,
With that home wrecker living across the street.
If you believe that sleaze is better...
You can get up from here and leave.'

~You aint my momma or my poppa.
Stop trying to control everything I do.
I'm not the one pleasured in midnight specials.
The dogs and cats know that rat is you! ~

*ooo...ssshhh.
This is juicy.*

~You don't have the authority,
To tell me what I can't do.
I will do what I please!
Your booty aint that good to screw! ~

*Lawd!
Now YOU know...
When the booty aint right,
That starts a fight.
ooo...this is juicy*

~If anyone here is going to get up and leave...
You're the one that's going to do it.
And if you don't,
I'll call the police.

And when they arrive...
I'll lie to say you've been hitting on me.~

*Lie-uh! *

~Pack your bags!
I've had it.
Pack your bags!
I've had it.
Pack your bags!
I've had it.
You've been booted,
So scoot.

Pack.
Your.
Bags...
I've had it.
Pack your bags!
I've had it.
Pack your bags!
I've had it.
You've been booted,
So scoot.

There is nothing to revisit.
And there is nothing to renew.

So pack.
Your.
Bags...
I've had it.
Pack your bags!
I've had it.
Pack your bags!
I've had it.
You've been booted,
So scoot.

There is nothing to revisit.
And there is nothing to renew.
You and and I are finished...
And that door you're going through!
So pack.
Your.
Bags...
I've had it.
Pack your bags!
I've had it.
Pack your bags!
I've had it.
You've been booted,
So scoot!

You don't have to bother,
To put on your shoes.
Just pack your bags.
I've had it.
Get up and get out.
You've been booted,
So scoot! ~

*Don't you dare!
I wont get this excitement anywhere.*

**Horace...
Will you come from over there,
And sit down!
You are worse than you say,
My nosy friends are! **

*Sssshhh...*

As Sure As The Sun Rises To Set

Surviving natural disasters,
With the taking away of material things...
Treasured by those who turn up their noses,
On neighbors and others they 'had' believed,
Lived in standards below them...
To compare and tease some with what they've got.
Are overnight among the 'have nots'.

The only way to stop a wagging tongue...
Mother Nature seems to always have a remedy,
For those quick to pass their judgements.
To critically critique.
And for those snooping over fences,
To mind someone else's business...
No longer are they wondering why,
It's important to respect how others live!
Especially now that the business of theirs...
Hangs from barren trees and share as a part of debris,
Littering for as far as the eye can see.

As sure as the Sun rises to set...
Many folks are living through their experiences,
With much regret.
Especially if those defamed neighbors and lost friends...
Are gone from them forever.
As well as those fences they peeked over.
With those doors, windows, walls, roofs...
And other treasured things once glouted about,
As a peacocking through malls...
And other 'social' comparing stops to gossip.
From them instantly taken away.
No longer to exist.

No matter what it is they do,
To restore their lives...
As if they weren't caught by surprise.
With a keeping of a mouth shut.
And more empathy,
They wish they had given to others...
As a druther,
And not as a tedious charity hand out.
Since little of it seems to come their way.

The Wind

I saw you toss the kites on high
And blow the birds about the sky;
And all around I heard you pass,
Like ladies' skirts across the grass--
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

I saw the different things you did,
But always you yourself you hid.
I felt you push, I heard you call,
I could not see yourself at all--
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

O you that are so strong and cold,
O blower, are you young or old?
Are you a beast of field and tree,
Or just a stronger child than me?
O wind, a-blowing all day long,
O wind, that sings so loud a song!

Allowing Us To Clear Our Heads

What I have done,
Personally...
To ensure the new neighbors,
Adhere to policies that have been in effect...
For many years,
Is to suggest and recommend...
Their children not smoke pot in the front yard.
Or put their trash on the curb,
For the garbage men to pick up the next day.

What I have done personally,
Is to show them how to put their trash...
In garbage bags FIRST.
And even though it has been slow for them to catch on,
The rest of the neighbors and myself...
Have agreed to meet the new residents,
In their backyard after midnight behind a closed and locked fence...
When all of the kids have been safely tied to their beds.
Allowing us to clear our heads and live together in peace.

'And you say you have a prescription for this? '

Her skin is like velvet
Her face cut from stone
Her eyes when shes smiling
Will never reach home
But hear how she sings
Her touch would be tender
Her lips would be warm
But when were together
Im always alone
But hear how she sings
But hear how she sings
Hear how she sings
Her skin is like velvet
So I went to her home
Her place like a palace
With things you cant own
Her skin is like velvet

Answer To A Child's Question

Do you ask what the birds say? The sparrow, the dove,
The linnet, and thrush say, 'I love and I love!'
In the winter they're silent, the wind is so strong;
What it says I don't know, but it sings a loud song.
But green leaves and blossoms, and sunny warm weather,
And singing, and loving, all come back together.
Then the lark is so brimful of gladness and love,
The green fields below him, the blue sky above,
That he sings, and he sings, and forever sings he--
'I love my Love, and my Love loves me!'

Only Peace Thrives

Only peace thrives

Innocence sleeps
on the dreaming eye lids
of a toddling child
so nascent so fresh
as the drooling dews
on a quivering grass blade
as the first morning
of cool winter
smiles innocuously.

Only peace thrives

Innocence sleeps
no war no war-cry
only peace and peace thrives
a cow boy sings the song of joy
in a remote yet not far grass land
the innocence sleeps
nestling on the bed of roses
the frisky fragrance of love
the garland of motley hopes
touches his chin tenderly
he could see his God
the divine possibilities
with the dancing tune of nature
so close to his imbued heart
that is filled with
only joy and happiness.

Innocence sleeps
no war no war cry
and only peace thrives.
