I Stopped Comparing Myself To Others
Bong is happier with his private practice
of law in Ortigas.
i CAN deduce that from his smiles
as he toured Europe
for tax shelter
His conscious is clean
posing like Alexander the Great
at the Acropolis
at nighttime.
I like his pictures at Vatican
Must be heavenly there
Cool and huge
architecture
simply amazing and i still have the wish
to do it better in
Amsterdam
Rey loves to shampoo his
Beagle in Chicago
Puts more time on his dog
than himself and it makes
his happier too
Guess i am happier here too
Tropical climate
How can i imagine surviving
in the snow as thick and
cold as
a forest uninhabited by
monkeys
I don't rhyme sometimes
and does not get the correct metaphors
for my existence
but well, this is my choice
and i still love it.
i can't waste my money on a round trip
ticket to Rome
or Greece
I haven't even savored yet
the seaside of my own place.
TOmorrow i am going to Ponot
climb a coconut tree
swim in the river
and dry my naked body
on top of the cliff.
I can fish and eat my catch.
I can walk faraway and sleep
where my feet want to rest.

I Am Fred Astaire
I'm under the assumption
that I'm gonna be the one thats leaving you
tonight, tonight...
Well I flipped every switch
that I could find on my way out just to upset you more
(just to keep you busy) just to make you angry (just because you were right) just because you were...
All tired scream safe haven,
Let's get this out and on the table...
Fast forward to say four o'clock,
I'm keeping time, I'm holdin', we're always holdin',
(we're always holdin), we're always holdin, holding out...
And that's what got us here in the first place,
you should have never come here alone
(you should have never bothered at all), bothered at all...
Scream older and wiser, still filled with resentment
We get it, we get it...Oh (I haven't been happier since)
Older and wiser, still filled with resentment
We get it, we get it...Oh, Bree Ann (I haven't been happier since, I haven't been happier, not since.)
Well five o'clock the floor caught fire with footsteps (my footsteps)
And spread like a disease to the door
(I'm stuttering through it but I hear it) I-I-I hear its good t-t-to stick to what you know
And you know a whole lot of this, it all could have been avoided when
you were courtside for this nightmare,
Well since then I got myself come and listen...
Older and wiser, still filled with resentment
We get it, we get it...Oh (I haven't been happier since)
Older and wiser, still filled with resentment
We get it, we get it...Oh, Bree Ann (I haven't been happier since)
I haven't been happier since (Bree Ann)
I haven't been happier since (Bree Ann)
I haven't been happier since (Bree Ann)
I haven't been happier not since...
Well, it used to take so much more (I used to, I used to too)
It used to take so much more (I used to, I used to too)
I used to, I used to too...

Closer
So leave your taxi waiting
And turn and close my door
And sit back down where you were sitting
A little closer than before
And when you look that serious
It just makes me want you more
And I've been meaning to tell you
The closer you get, the better I feel
The closer you are, the more I see
Why everyone says that I look happier
When you're around
The closer you get, the better I feel
And yes I know you're nervous
Never seen you so unsure
You haven't touched your food tonight
And you're drinking more and more
And there's no need to hurry
Take your time I'll still be here
And I've been meaning to tell you
The closer you get, the better I feel
The closer you are, the more I see
Why everyone says that I look happier
When you're around, the better I feel
The closer you get, the better you see
The closer you are, the more I see
Why everyone says that I look happier
When you're around
The closer you get, the better I feel
The better I feel, the better I feel
We've been circling for time baby
We're coming down to land tonight
The wait is over and now it's easy
Everything is fine
The closer you get, the better I feel
The closer you are, the more I see
Why everyone says that I look happier
When you're around, the better I feel
The closer you get, the better you see
The closer you are, the more I see
Why everyone says, that I look happier
When you're around, the closer you get
The better I feel

Salutation
O generation of the thoroughly smug
and thoroughly uncomfortable,
I have seen fishermen picnicking in the sun,
I have seen them with untidy families,
I have seen their smiles full of teeth
and heard ungainly laughter.
And I am happier than you are,
And they were happier than I am;
And the fish swim in the lake
and do not even own clothing.

Tears
Never would say
I never needed anyone
Not now I have knowing
Of the real love
And I need to have you
I could never give it up
Cause the hurt would be too much
And the feeling Im feeling
Is a feeling I like
Its only when Im with you
That I feel all right
Im amazed that its come to this
I love you to tears
I love you to tears
Falling into you
Ive fallen on my feet
My world was only turning
So that we could meet
And I want you always
I could never run away
Working destiny today
And the giving Im giving
Is a giving I like
Its easy when Im with you
To give into life
Im amazed that its come to this
I love you to tears
I love you to tears
Happier than high, this is happening
So cool to have this salt water on my skin
Its not a pool of sorrow that Im harbouring
These are tears of joy that Im swimming in
Happier than high, this is happening
So cool to have this salt water on my skin
Its not a pool of sorrow that Im harbouring
These are tears of joy that Im swimming in
Happier than high
Im happier than high
Im happier than high
Im happier than high
I love you to tears
I love you to tears

Complacency
the road to understanding
appears to us
fenced and paved
the way all cleared
and the grasses on the side
well trimmed
the trees grown on a line
and flowers are grouped
according to their kind
complacent we think that this is all
that there is nothing to be figured out anymore
there is nothing to be scrutinized
nothing to question
you sit inside the hut on the side of a hill
and rest and breathe the air from there
there is nothing to be done
everything is handed
and what we do is only to receive
and behave
no one jumps over the fence
no one puts another kind of flower anymore
what grass you know
is the grass that is well trimmed
nature manicured
i have long gone away from that place
i live in the forest
and struggle to communicate with the monkeys
i am clearing my own way
and building my own house on top of a tree
i am well, and i guess happier.

Happier Than The Morning Sun
Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom
Bom bom bom bom bom bom
Im happier than the morning sun
And thats the way you said that it would be
If I should ever bring you inside my life.
Im happier than the morning sun
And thats the way you said that it would be
If I should ever bring you inside my life.
All my life I was alone,
Didnt think Id find my part,
Now I see theres joy inside your arms.
Every day I searched for the star,
That never was in the sky,
And now I see this star is on earth.
And Im happier than the morning sun
And thats the way you said that I would be -thats
What you told me yea
If I gave you a chance to come inside my life.
(I am) and I am happier than the morning sun
And thats the way it will always be -thats the way
It will always be
Ever since the day you came inside of my life.
Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom
Bom bom bom I love you.
Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom
Bom bom bom I love you.
Dum...
Dum...
Yea
And Im happier than the morning sun
And thats the way you said that it would be -baby thats
What you told me yea
If I should ever bring you inside my life.
-bring you inside my life
Im happier than the morning sun
And thats the way you said it would be
-woa thats what you said it would be
If I should ever bring you inside my life.
Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom
Bom bom bom bom bom bom
Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom
Bom bom bom I love you.
Bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom bom
Bom bom bom I love you.
Happier than the morning sun
Thats the way you said it would be
-baby thats what you told me yea
If I should ever bring you inside my life.
-bring you inside my life yea
Im happier than the stars above
-yea the morning stars above
Thats the way you said that it would be
-thats what you told me yea
If I should ever bring you inside of my life.
I believe that everyone should be
Happier than the morning sun
Happier than the morning sun
Happier than the morning sun

Happy Children
We are children
We are happy
Happy in this world
But not so happier
Than the butterflies
Fly among the flowers.
We are children
We are happy
Happy in this world
But not so happier
Than the Stars
Lighting tiny lamps
In the Sky.
We are children
We are happy
Happier in this world
But not so happier
Than the babies
Asleep in their mothers’ lap.

The Shell....
i once had
a beautiful body
many beg to
touch it
many want to
sleep with me
even without
any responsibility
i look at myself
in the mirror
grateful for this
body
i had conceit
like a prince
of arrogance
time is my enemy
my body wears out
skin is loose
and bones become
brittle
there is a squeak
when i walk
sometimes i
regret having this
body
since i never had
used it
the way others
want it
if they had it
i tell myself
that it would have
been better
if this body
is the body of the
one i love
it would have been
more useful
perhaps lovelier
and i would have
been happier
my body is silent and indifferent
it has no independent mind of its own
it is one of those shells
where the hermit crab dwells

Fish Deeper, says HE
Rainy days chill makes me lazy here in my cabin
Only croaks of frogs, I hear, singing with no rhythm,
Snails crawl on the ground; earthworms are visible in my garden
Used them as baits, to the river I went for some fishing.
Yet water running from slopes makes the river cold
No fish on surface, they swim deep and avoid,
I stayed hours while singing 'Raindrops Keeps Fallin' in my Head'
But nay, no fish eats my bait; can I just shoot them, instead?
Sam said true, 'Fish deep, fear not to plunge deep
Fulfillment is gained; why not face your fear,
Swim and play, water is enticing, dear
Water holds fun and lots from it to keep! '
I like to catch fish, though I cannot swim deep
Neither kill a fish, take off its intestines and gills,
Scaling it, cook and eat it in zest
I'd prefer catching fish and throw it back, I guess!
Hmn...I think I prefer it as a sport than feed
Yet I have naughty thoughts as I do the deed,
If my man was here, he may join me as we catch fish
Ha ha! Can we make love before we eat the main dish? (Wink)

Chicago Sestina
I am surprised by the streets of Chicago
when the palm of winter grips them with snow
as if to forgive the city’s mistakes
and give it a canvas that’s new, white, and clean–
its fingers, the branches on all of the trees
kneading the air that blows in from the lake.
I’ve never lived next to the pulse of the lake
(until I set foot down the side of Chicago)
breathing in through the streets and out through the trees
welcoming the cool of the wet, numbing snow.
It lets my mind slip into thinking it’s clean
as if to personally forgive my mistakes.
“But what have you done to forgive your mistakes? ”
Did I ask this? Or is that the voice of the lake?
Some days, not even does it appear clean,
worn down from its tall standing neighbor, Chicago.
It scrapes at the sky, asking it for more snow
to stick to and freeze the trunks of the trees.
If I were a branch on one of these trees
incapable of making a single mistake,
I’d grab at the sky as it shook out the snow
and grow my roots thick till they tasted the lake.
But I wouldn’t bend to the force of Chicago
that’s constantly keeping me from being clean.
And what does it mean to try to be clean?
I don’t understand the stillness of the trees
when they’re being attacked by the size of Chicago
as if to glorify the city’s mistakes
that glisten like stars at night on the lake
before it all froze and was covered with snow.
Ah! To imagine how long there’s been snow.
How can something this old still feel so clean
and dance through the wind that swoops in from the lake?
Is it the kneading by the spiny branches on trees
trusting that there will be no more mistakes
that leaves these the only pure thing in Chicago?
Here comes the snow that seeks out the trees
Am I now clean? Where are my mistakes?
Chicago belongs where it lay with the lake.

Returning From Greece
Well, we're nearly there, Hermippos.
Day after tomorrow, it seems - that's what the captain said.
At least we're sailing our seas,
the waters of our own countries - Cyprus, Syria, Egypt -
waters we know and love.
Why so silent? Ask your heart:
didn't you too feel happier
the further we got from Greece?
What's the point of fooling ourselves?
That wouldn't be properly Greek, would it?
It's time we admitted the truth:
we're Greeks also - what else are we?-
but with Asiatic tastes and feelings,
tastes and feelings
sometimes alien to Hellenism.
It isn't correct, Hermippos, for us philosophers
to be like some of our petty kings
(remember how we laughed at them
when they used to come to our lectures?)
who through their showy Hellenified exteriors
(Macedonian exteriors, naturally)
let a bit of Arabia peep out now and then,
a bit of Media they can't keep back.
And to what laughable lengths the fools went
trying to cover it up!
No, that's not at all correct for us.
For Greeks like us that kind of pettiness won't do.
We simply can't be ashamed
of the Syrian and Egyptian blood in our veins;
we should really honour it, delight in it.

A plane is a bad place for an all-out sleep, but a good place to begin rest and recovery from the trip to the faraway places you've been, a decompression chamber between Here and There. Though a plane is not the ideal place really to think, to reassess or reevaluate things, it is a great place to have the illusion of doing so, and often the illusion will suffice.

Not Ennuf Love
[chorus]
Now when you climb
Into your bed tonight
And when you lock
And hold the door
Just think of those
Out in the cold and dark
cause there is not enough love to go round
Now when you climb [fade]
And when you lock [fade]
Just think of those
Out in the cold and dark
cause there is not enough love to go round.
[maxi jazz]
Until you wake up
You people need a shake up
You take up so much time
Worrying, scurrying,
Here, there,
Losing your hear
No money to spare
No love to share
No wonder you appear under pressure from here
You look fresh, yeah
But all I got is dirt in my hear
My nightmares manifest,
But I can escape
Yours is in your chest
With no formal shape
The tape is running
I push the button to send
Upon each other we all depend
Message end
Whoever asks my name
Or where I came from
People fear contamination
If they chary too long
I carry a strong
Sin of despair
Its in the air
Im broken and hard to repair
I may mistaken be
But I patiently wait
On the pad to humanity
I sit at the gates
[chorus]
Now when you climb
Into your bed tonight
And when you lock
And hold the door
Just think of those
Out in the cold and dark
cause there is not enough love to go round
Now when you climb
Into your bed tonight
And when you lock
And hold the door
Just think of those
Out in the cold and dark
cause there is not enough love to go round
[maxi jazz]
Dirty, cold, hurting, soul,
Down the river
My liver in bad condition
Like my skin
Rain falling, once again
Im in my bed
Hurt the time in
Im gonna struggle for air
Theres hair in my food
When I get it usually someone already half ate it
Touch it, not to let it
Get me down
But my head starting to pad
People go round, and round and round
From one I get a cigarette
A little more love found
But the ground is still wet
My chief are chattering
And theres a spattering of seeds
Sometimes I lose all feeling in my feet
When I sleep Ill do my deep in the mainstream
But unaccountably my heart was growing
Small and mean
A hurry past
Ridged people I pretend I havent seen
But theres money in my pocket
And my clothes are clean?
[maxi jazz 4x]
I said money in my pocket
But I just cant give no love
Money in my pocket
But I just cant give no love
[chorus]
Now when you climb
Into your bed tonight
And when you lock
And hold the door
Just think of those
Out in the cold and dark
cause there is not enough love to go round
cause there is not enough love to go round

Moaning
I often hear children moaning
about the things they don’t have,
never thinking once about those
who haven’t and never will have a lot.
Those who have the least,
not having anything
maybe happier than those
who have everything in the world.
If you have your health
and a little food on the table,
you are wealthier than some.
For there is a lot who haven’t got those.
You may never be rich
with money and fame,
but if you are alive, not starving
you are just as rich as any of them.
Take everyday as a miracle
you have been granted.
Do not waste it by moaning,
just live it and enjoy.

Song For Him
I've been lonely but not lonelier than Him
I've been lonely but not lonelier than Him
When I'm lonely still I know
He'll forgive me yes it's so
I've been lonely but not lonelier than Him
I've been sorry not sorryer than Him
I've been sorry not sorryer than Him
When I'm sorry I remember
That he loves me
And I'm better
I've been sorry not sorryer than Him
It doesn't matter if I'm wrong it doesn't matter if I'm right
He's with me at the break of dawn
He's every star that shines at night
I've been happy but not happier than Him
I've been happy but not happier than Him
When I'm happy skies are blue
I forget him still it's true
I've been happy but not happier than Him
But not sorrier than Him
But not lonelier than Him
