Believe Me
believe me candice
i did not sleep last night
your sleeplessness
my mess
your fear my fright
i have taken all the sides
of my bed
made the lights dimmer
the room colder
the blankets thicker
i counted the sheep
and dreamt of
marshmallows
did you also think
of me?
let there be silence
between the lines
that talk much

the night is
a mannequin
and we are
the recent
harlequins
in the room
the night is
no longer a mystery
it is colder
and the lights are not
turned off
because of fear
dimmer
like promises
the floor is silent
like the carpets
the dusts invade
like a catacomb
ambient
the scenes outside
are horrible
dead birds hanging
themselves
on the twigs of
a fungal tree
nevertheless
a bunch of ripe guavas
wait still
to be picked by some
hands of the

Did You Have A Sound Sleep Last Night?
out there is snow
inside your room you pretended sleep
i tendered some unsolicited advices
which i stole from the experts
of sleep
i tendered the face of the man
who can sing you the
songs of passion
and love and who can make you
sleep
i tendered an old song of mother
a lullaby
i tendered an ear of father
touching your fingers
i wish i could have been a tributary
of so much sleep for you
the mind
of softness and pillows and
warmer beds
do not believe me, if you only know
i, too, could not sleep last night
your sleeplessness
is also my mess.

Bus Travel At Night
it is the loneliest journey
bus travel at night
the driver does not talk
to the conductor
the silence is the silence of the sleep of all the passengers
i follow the road
the signs are intact
there are only lights on the sides of the streets
the trees are black
the leaves are merely shadows
the world passes me by
in complete silence the scenes changes
and all so sudden
the world moves with me
the bus is a bullet

I'm Not Losing Sleep
Yes, I've read the morning papers
Telling me that you've made money
Do you think I'm gonna crawl, then think again
Though I'm dressed in rags, I'm richer
Though I eat from tins, I'm healthier
Though I live in slums, I'm purer than you, my friend
Too bad, I'm not losing sleep
[Too bad] I'm just counting sheep
[Too bad] I'm not losing sleep, my friend
Look around and see the friends
The ones you left, our friends deserted
See the guys that used to talk and drink with you
Don't look down your nose at me
'Cause I won't ask your sympathy
I won't be your yes-sir man for anything
Too bad, I'm not losing sleep
[Too bad] I'm just counting sheep
[Too bad] I'm not losing sleep, my friend
I would walk with you
Talk with you, drink with you
If you drop that halo that you're wearing on the ground
Too bad, I'm not losing sleep
[Too bad] I'm just counting sheep
[Too bad] I'm not losing sleep, my friend
I can't get my satisfaction
Knowing you won't get reaction
What makes me the big attraction anyway
It's too bad, I'm not losing sleep
[Too bad] I'm just counting sheep
[Too bad] I'm not losing sleep, my friend
Too bad, I'm not losing sleep
[Too bad] I'm just counting sheep
[Too bad] I'm not losing sleep, my friend
Oh, it's too bad, I'm not losing sleep
[Too bad] I'm just counting sheep
[Too bad] I'm not losing sleep, my friend

Bedtime For Paris
For my Daughter Paris
Sleep, close your eyes
The terrors of the night will pass you by
Darkness creeps in, the shadows, they talk, they speak
Back and Forth, Creak to Creep, Squeak to Sneak
Thicker and thicker the blackness descends
Bringing Beast and Creature to no end
Sleep, quiet your mind
The horrors of psyche can be unkind
As fiend and foe pass, through the glass
Into the emptiness, the abyss
Forever linking fear and darkness
Sleep little one, do not be scared
My soul to you I will bare
My life I would give to keep you safe
Whether Dragon, Demon, Beast or Wraith
When you’re frightened, be aware
Daddy will always, always be there.

Blankets
Some blankets are thin
that cover the poor.
They're lucky to have them.
They sleep on the floor.
No pillow to sleep on
to cradle their head,
nothing to sleep on
that's called a bed.
Some blankets are downy
that cover the rich.
No shivering at night
in their warm little niche.
Their heads have been cradled
since they were born.
They sleep in comfort
all cozy and warm.
Some blankets are heavy.
They weigh you down.
You can't move your toes
or wriggle them around.
You lay there quite still
and wrestle with thought.
You think of blankets
that are light.
and if the poor
will be alright?

My Plight.
Bear with me as I tell of my plight,
I am just an old man that cannot sleep at night.
I have counted millions of sheep in my time,
Even written verses that usually rhyme.
Full moon nights are really the worse
For then I am compelled to write more verse.
Sleeping tablets I have take by the score,
These make things worse and cause me to snore.
I have had hot baths before going to bed,
These make my skin wrinkly and red.
Cold showers I have tried to make me sleep,
But I only end up counting more sheep.
They say as one gets older one does not need so much sleep.
When I hear this psuedo wisdom I just want to weep.
When I was young eight hours sleep was just right.
It saw me through a long restful night.
If just for once I could sleep through the night,
I would not ask you to bear with my plight.

I Dreamt Of Her
I dreamt of her and she was in my room,
You dreamt of him and he was in your room,
I dreamt of you and you were in my room,
You dreamt of me and i was in your room,
And like the chemical chain of life!
But, this muse of love is all about us.

Venite Descendamus
Let be at last; give over words and sighing,
Vainly were all things said:
Better at last to find a place for lying,
Only dead.
Silence were best, with songs and sighing over;
Now be the music mute;
Now let the dead, red leaves of autumn cover
A vain lute.
Silence is best: for ever and for ever,
We will go down and sleep,
Somewhere beyond her ken, where she need never
Come to weep.
Let be at last: colder she grows and colder;
Sleep and the night were best;
Lying at last where we cannot behold her,
We may rest.

Sleep with the lights on..............
Her first room had bare walls,
pale blue, and a built in wardrobe.
The single bed was
pushed against a wall,
and the blankets were coarse.
Her first room was cold and sterile,
offering no charm, no comfort.
It was but a box, austere,
yet practical, it offered
nothing.
Thinking back,
maybe it was that room,
the starkness,
its high, plain windows,
its bare, tiled floor.
These days it's locked,
except for her night chills,
the way her stomach fell
in the mornings
as the cock crowed.
Her first room lies
belly up on the page….
Here, take it,
make of it what you will,
sleep with the lights on...if you have to.

We Dont Talk Anymore
Used to think that life was sweet,
Used to think we were so complete,
I cant believe youd throw it away.
Used to feel we had it made,
Used to feel we could sail away,
Can you imagine how I feel today,
Well it seems a long time ago you were the lonely one,
Now it comes to letting go you are the only one,
Do you know what youve done.
Its so funny how we dont talk anymore,
Its so funny why we dont talk anymore,
But I aint losing sleep and I aint counting sheep,
Its so funny how we dont talk anymore.
Well it really doesnt matter to me,
I guess your leaving was meant to be,
Its down to you now you wanna be free,
Well I hope you know which way to go youre on your own again,
And dont come crying to me when youre the lonely one,
Remember what youve done.
Its so funny how we dont talk anymore,
Its so funny why we dont talk anymore,
But I aint losing sleep and I aint counting sheep,
Its so funny how we dont talk anymore.
But I aint losing sleep and I aint counting sheep,
Its so funny how we dont talk anymore.
But I aint losing sleep and I aint counting sheep,
Its so funny how we dont talk anymore.

Last Night I Dreamt Your Perfume
Last night I dreamt your perfume
While I held you in my hand
Last night I dreamt your perfume
You will never understand
The way you make me feel
The promise that you give
Last night I dreamt your perfume
Lost in those dreams I live
Last night I dreamt your perfume
Arched fingers cupped your breast
Last night I dreamt your perfume
Felt your warm breath brush my chest
With gel coat slide I gripped you
Sensation through my veins
Last night I dreamt your perfume
She who bears no name
Last night I dreamt your perfume
Your body meshed with mine
Last night I dreamt your perfume
A guilty pleasure, sweet, sublime
Quiet by my pillow
Your touch I never feel
Last night I dreamt your perfume
This morning, wished you real

Morning Sky
The morning sky
was one of those
cold January mornings
with redness
up there
amongst
the off white clouds
and she said
I dreamt of you last night
And you came into my room
and into my warm bed
and even my sister
didn't know
you were there
and you said
I dreamt
of Marilyn Monroe
and entered
into her room
and tried to get
into her bed
but I didn’t want
to disturb her sleep
so just sat
and watched her
like studying some
fine work of art
then I woke up
to a cold morning
and she said
you were better off
in my dream
where we kissed
and cuddled
but then
my sister woke me
and you disappeared
into the cold morning air
and you said
yes I remember
I dreamt
of being there.

Lost Way
Sleeplessness swallows slumber,
to disencumber the mummer’s
fear of fear, fear of end of indian summer,
follows the night that swallows the night which swallowed nights without number.
Night melts into day
as the hours devour
life’s fragile flower
whose minute petals
peal peel away
as each second settles
one by one as one. Our stay -
be it floral bower,
or doomed to cower sour
behind bars metal, -
proves brief holiday
showing our mettle
pointless as the play
is doomed to nettle
disappoints, unsettles,
impotence empowers
as storm-clouds lower,
ends in both overstay, lost way.
Sleeplessness dismembers the mummer
who, hollow, in fear of fear, of doom’s drummer,
lumbers number and dumber tombwards,
on towards the night which swallows nights without number
it won't ward off.

Colder
This is what I should have said
If I'd've been a man about it
You might be in my arms by now
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
As I contemplate the losing
The silence is up way too loud
Chorus:
I can't sleep anymore
The words I never said keep turning over
I can't dream like before
And all I seem to be getting is colder
Just like the t-shirt that you wore
You were divine and full of madness
Not really like anyone
In words too beautiful for words
I constructed a soliloquy
That never seemed to reach my tongue
Yeah the air never even filled my lungs
Chorus:
I can't sleep anymore
The words I never said keep turning over
I can't dream like before
And all I seem to be getting is colder
All I can think of is
My name on your lips
Chorus:
I can't sleep anymore
The words I never said keep turning over
I can't dream like before
And all I seem to be getting is
All I seem to be getting is colder
Colder

Just Cant Go To Sleep
Every night I just cant go sleep
Every night I have to count sheep
Every night I just cant go sleep, uh huh
Without you, without you
I just cant go to sleep
Every night I feel so lonely
Longing for you, one and only
Every night I just cant go sleep, uh huh
Without you, without you
I just cant go to sleep
(no, no, no, no, no)
Yeah, I just cant go to sleep, now
(no, no, no, no, no)
Yeah, I just cant go to sleep
(no, no, no, no, no)
Yeah, without you, without you
I just cant go to sleep
To sleep
Every day you look my way,
And I want to hold you
But when nighttime comes
Youre not around for me to love
Every night I just cant go sleep
Every night I have to count sheep
Every night I just cant go sleep, uh huh
Without you, without you
I just cant go to sleep
(no, no, no, no, no)
Yeah, I just cant go to sleep, now
(no, no, no, no, no)
Oh, I just cant go to sleep
(no, no, no, no, no)

The Room That Was Locked
we talk about nothing last night
and for the past few nights about the room that was locked.
long time ago, even the mere mention of that room
they remember, the old folks always reminded us
of the penalties, for the mere use of words,
and there was fear and there was the suppressed silence
that eventually bothered each of those who thought about it,
except for one man, who one day, with all his anger,
got a bit piece of wood, the one left by the termites,
and hit the room that was always locked, and when its
door was broken, they all went it, to know what secret lies
inside the abandoned room that was forbidden.
to their aghast, there is nothing there.
except perhaps, the mere fear about its being forbidden.

Rest-less criminals
REST-LESS CRIMINALS
Coping with the lights
They never turn off
Keeping me up all night
No sleep at all
They talk and shout
They party all night
I want to knock them out
It’s just not right
Trying to ignore these sounds and lights
To get some sleep
Would be a delight
Whether I like it or not
Forced to stay up all night
I hate this fact
That I can’t sleep at will
But it’s all my fault I guess
I put myself here
During the day when I should be awake
It’s when I sleep
It’s something I hate
To many things here to steel my rest
When I get out of here
I’ll sleep for days

Barefoot Floors
Sleep, baby sleep,
I know your day has been oh so long
Sleep, baby sleep,
I know your day has been oh so long
The night falls at your feet
Now the day feels so complete
Compared to darkness
Sleep, baby sleep.
Talk, baby talk
Sweet talk is all its made of
Talk, baby talk
Sweet talk is all its made of
Promises of the morning ways,
New beginnings for another
Day to spend together
Talk, baby talk.
Love, baby love
Has got me walkin on these
Barefoot floors
Love, baby love
Has got me walkin on these
Barefoot floors
Find the light
Surrounding you
Sleep the night til mornings dew
I will be here for you
Love, baby love.
