When it comes harrowing the light
Or shredding the shrouds of light,

... tell nothing
in the flush of your fear
speak no word that the sea may hear
trust to it no name call no one
enemy or friend utter not one sigh
to snag on a reef
or curl round the coral keep
furl song in your throat tales of fire
laughter and ice cram in your
brimful eyes confess nothing
in the crest of your fear
lock up your tongue
that when it chill fingers
reach deep to pluck out your heart
make no sound not one prayer

Do you ever have that dream
where you're walking naked down the street
and everyone just stares
Do you ever feel so deep
that you speak your mind
to put others straight to sleep
You wonder if anybody cares
Sometimes I think I'm the only one

Now is The Winter With Trees Stripped Naked
Now is the winter with trees naked
when there is cold and sifting rain,
stripped bare without leaves
and then you first come past and then to me
like a sun rising over the horizon
with a yellow raincoat, your pants splashed wet, laughing and glad
and your company is full of fun
in bands of gathering fog.
Now is the winter with trees naked
cutting off every ray and light
and I know our time is only borrowed,
like a sun rising over the horizon
but stopping the rays in this winter,
in a cold world without hope or pity,
stripped bare without leaves
where you shake out your hair like a dog does with rain,

Meditation on a Grey Morning
Grey morning
lights
the bland sky.
Black birds light
on bare trees
thin limbs wavering
as they flit
scanning
the frozen earth.
All the world is waiting,
to unwind explosive buds
to shed thin shrouds
and burst into emerald light
as joyful black birds rise
into the endless

For the brakeman lost his place
