about Alma
and then there was Alma,
a name which means soul.
she tells the story about her
son, how she gave birth
at such an early age, meeting
this chinese man,
who offered her a nice world
who promised her heaven.
it turned sour. The chinese man
left her. But she managed to
eke out a living for her son.
She raised him.
She files an annulment
two years and still undecided.
When the annulment is granted
she promises to invite us to her party
The motif? Wear the color of freedom.

I tried to become a family man. I got married, but it didn't work out. After 22 months we got an annulment. Then I married an Italian girl, which resulted in an immediate annulment. I had two annulments by the time I was 23.

A Turtle Thrown Into The River
they come to the house today
mother and son
the father who is so angry merely stays in their house
it is all about his wife filing a petition for annulment
of their 20 year-old marriage
she tells all the lies about his being happy-go-lucky
unmindful of her miseries
his drunkeness his womanizing his having no income at all
and he cries foul
that all these are not true
that he is psychologically incapacitated
the truth is
that he does not love her anymore
that she too is having an affair with an american who is financing the petition for annulment
who is now sleeping with her in their marital bed
i told him as he seeks my advice
admit all her lies and swallow all her false allegations
let her throw you away
as you too would like her to be thrown away to hell
let her throw the turtle with her two hands to the river
and then let her see how the turtle swims and sings to the comforts of its flow
the way they both want their lives to go and be free at last
from their mutual disappointments and hatred

Annulment Everywhere
Liza says
it was her last option
otherwise she will simply be hurting herself
like poking a stone on her head
or stabbing her own heart
with her own knife
from her very own hands
last option: annulment
the man she says is irresponsible
incompatibility was discovered late
then follows Maila
again separated with a man sired her a boy
it is the boy that she loves more
and not the man
and so with Verna
she finally finds her man on top of another man
right in their conjugal bed
she could not fire a gun
that is her regret
the family court is constantly hammering
the gavel
for another annulment of marriage
and everyone seems happy
celebrations is occurring here and there
balloons are bursting
firecrackers on the month of June
my Emma is silent
perhaps disturbed by this legal turbulence.

Chinese woman
When your eyes,
Meet mine,
You smile,
So fine.
The thought
Of being with you,
Excites me,
It’s all I wanna do.
Chinese woman,
I love you,
Chinese woman,
Why don’t you love me too?
Chinese woman,
Don’t go far away,
Chinese woman,
Why don’t you stay?
Every time,
You see me,
I try
to be funny.
I don’t understand,
You laugh and smile,
Yet I don’t hear from
You in a while.
Chinese woman,
I love you,
Chinese woman,
Why don’t you love me too?
Chinese woman,
Don’t go far away,
Chinese woman,
Why don’t you stay?
Days come
In and out.
Still I have
To shout.
Just so you
Look at me.
Just so you
Can see…
Chinese woman,
I love you,
Why don’t you love me too?
Chinese woman,
Don’t go away,
Why don’t you want to stay?
With me.
Chinese woman.
This poem, is actually the words to a song. I wrote them as lyrics first.

The Chinese Way
Take a journey back in time
Leave the western world behind
Cross the mountains to peking
Where the paper laterns gently swing
The chinese way
Who knows what they know
The chinese legend grows
My eyes wide open
I feel a breeze
Words softly spoken
In cantonese
Standing at the masters side
The with patience he confides
Secret knowledge - sacred ways
Paerls of wisdom from the dragon days
I could never lie
For honour I would lie
Following the chinese way
So many years ago heros ruled the world
(some died for love in a cruel world)
They were the only ones in a cruel world
I could never lie
For honour I would lie
Following the chinese way
From the mountains to peking
Where the paper laterns gently swing
The chinese way
Who knows what they know
The chinese legend grows

Try Painting Something In Two Colors Only
the duality of just red and black
red for luck as the chinese sees it
and black for goodness
(remember good guys wear black
as the americans
put it)
but i do not really believe what the chinese
or the american believes it to be
to the French
in Les Miserables
red is the color of despair
and to us
Filipinos, black is the color of mourning
equate it with despair
when idealism dies
when our ancestors pass away
when we do not think of them anymore
black, death and red,
blood,
and
something thicker than water
darkness, and coldness, and being lost because
'you are drunk and you are standing
on the edge of the roof'

Chinese Table
May I join you in an hour?
The table seems laid and ready for sweet-and-sour.
The Chinese food is grand to the stomach and taste,
We dine forever in grandness, so much in haste.
For it, the Chinese bear the wife in the garden,
This is where the herbs and vegetables are to harden.
They can be great to the health,
Much more of a stealth
Can be gained in a day
Or maybe for the say.
This hour of dining is exactly allowed
For the Chinese are good when bowed.

Scorflufus
There are many diseases,
That strike people's kneeses,
Scorflufus! is one by name
It comes from the East
Packed in bladders of yeast
So the Chinese must take half the blame.
There's a case in the files
Of Sir Barrington-Pyles
While hunting a fox one day
Shot up in the air
And remained hanging there!
While the hairs on his socks turned grey!
Aye!Scorflufus had struck!
At man, beast, and duck.
And the knees of the world went Bong!
Some knees went Ping!
Other knees turned to string
From Balham to old Hong Kong.
Should you hold your life dear,
Then the remedy's clear,
If you're offered some yeast - don't eat it!
Turn the offer down flat-
Don your travelling hat-
Put an egg in your boot - and beat it!

Black Market Payoff Blood Ivory Pyramid
Chinese government
shame covert secret
blood run ivory policy
wise rats don't talk sell...
to honest foreigners
non-Chinese buyers
Chinese government
customs bribed officials...
demand their silence
cut $100,000 US
dollars a small container
of illegal black market...
African ivory capitalist smiles
where are Chinese heroes?
not in power not in politics
not in party in protest jails...

Chinese Girls
(jack hues)
A star is shining
Into my eyes
It will not fall
A star is wise
Across the harbor
Perfumed hills
The silent waters
And all is still
Oh yeah
Chinese girls stand, see right through you
Chinese girls can sway
Chinese girls will melt your heart
And take your breath away
Chinese girls would dance with god
Chinese girls dont care
Put their hands around their heads
And through their chinese hair
She is not moving
She does not talk
Birds in her hair
Where she walks
And when she gazes
Theres a pearl
I will not forget
My chinese girl

Keep moving
Keep triumphing
Go on moving
Halt no where
Always dare
Nice words
To hear and look forward
But is that so easy?
When life is quite hard and busy
The childhood has been just over
I have lost parent's sympathy and cover
As they know what I can do with!
Fully capable of and armed with teeth
My outlook is now fully changed
Front teeth are hardly managed
Soul has barely managed inside
And sour over happenings worldwide
Life is not likely to cut much ice
Even if I prove right and offer promises
Fulfill it with vigor and assert like statesman
Yet I shall remain so as helpless and poor human
What have I to look back and turn for future?
Everything moves as per His wishes for sure
I keep myself fully fit and sing in his praise
So far I have been kept in complete health and raised
I live with pain, agony and lots of fun
Meanwhile I watch the life in turmoil and on run
How whole world is on move with no time to spare
How to mange easy life and prepare for new venture?
Yes, yes, someone apprised me of how to act upon
When fortune turns up and life is not torn!
I have learnt to live with ordinary but imposing style
That shall be continued till last for remaining miles

You
You made promises.
You knew you would never keep them.
You made them anyway.
You promised you would never hurt me.
You did.
You promised you would never lie to me.
You did.
You promised to always be there when I needed you.
You weren't.
You promised to never leave.
You left.
You promised to always care about me.
You stopped.
You never should have made promises you knew you wouldn't keep.
You left me here alone.
You made me think.
You made me realize I don't need you.
You may think I do.
You are so wrong.
You left and I let go.
You were important to me, but I've learned to move on.
You will never lie to me again.
You will never hurt me again.
You will never hear my voice.
You will never see my face.
You lost me.
You have to be the one to let go now.
You shouldn't have treated me that way.
You never will again.
You are gone and I've moved on.

LEARN CHINESE July 11th,2012
By
James Bredin
If it was Gaelic they were speaking I might catch a word or two,
But Toronto has turned Chinese and I don't have a clue,
So I think I should learn Mandarin and then we can get along,
I don't know; but is that the language they speak in Hong Kong?
I just looked it up on the Internet and found out to my surprise,
They have more than a hundred languages so I can't improvise,
Has an English-speaking Canadian ever learned Chinese?
Which is easier to learn - Mandarin or Cantonese?
Years ago, I thought of becoming bilingual and learning French,
But Canada is has gone multicultural down a communication trench,
And now I have to find out where they teach easy Chinese,
And maybe eventually, I can pretend I'm Cantonese.

Peanuts And Promises
You promised me the world, the sun and stars.
You promised me a journey straight to Mars.
You promised me you'd catch the moon,
And present it to me on a spoon.
You promised me a mansion large
With numerous cars in the huge garage.
As our minds surveyed the rolling fields,
You promised me that they would yield
Equine, Canine, Feline friends,
To walk beside us to the end.
When you saw your promises turn to snow
In summer sun to melt and go,
In rivulets along life's lane
Despairingly you spoke my name.
In torment did you turn and say
"I promised you all beauteous days.
All my promises did through our lives wend.
And I gave you just "peanuts" in the end"
I smiled at you so tenderly
As we sat together knee to knee.
I told you what you did not know
That promises are so; just so.
Our wishes for our loved ones true,
But all I need, is you; just you.
