73

i have nothing to ask of you
or of myself
i have been here and have slept on the coolness of grasses
and i have seen the rainbow all complete with its array of colors
i heard the black bird sing
and so is that white bird on the roof of my house
doves and crows
and cars and wheelbarrows

i have loved and lost and loved and won
there is nothing to prove there is nothing to show
time tells us in the dusk that it will end somewhere someday
like a fortuneteller covering her head with a black headdress

i am not awed and neither i ask
i am not curious anymore

i listed to the flow of the river
it is the music to my ear

i am fed up with all these big and little things in my palms
let them all be birds and butterflies
let them all fly away and let them all not come back

The Sermon of the Birds

I was clearing thirty or forty acres once
Out in the western range near Nightcap Mountain.
And as I was working, I heard a gathering of the crows
Singing out in a jungle gully. Their clamorous cries
Drawed the attention of all the other birds.
Jackass and butcher-bird, soldier-bird, sparrow-bird,
Scrub-robin, magpie, and the black and white cockatoo,
They all flew down to the crows in the jungle-gully.

And I followed after their clamour, and in the midst
Of all the splendid excitement of the birds
I heard one feller was singing above them all.
It was the lyre-bird, the mimic of all the scrub,
And they held this beautiful sermon or half an hour.
The birds would stop and listen a while but still
That beautiful voice, the lyre-bird, would keep on singing
And draw then and join them all to a chorus again.

And as I stood there and listened, the Scriptures was
Hitting me all the time. The sermon seemed
Like the prophecy when Christ shall come and summon
The birds, the valleys, the hills, the mountains and the ocean
To sing in praise of the grace and the reckoning day,
And the beauty of earth in the splendour that He crated.
And I went back and told my people of what I had seen,
And the sermon of praise I heard in the mountain range.

T-birds

Circle high, circle low.
Jammers fly, t-birds.
You show, you show, whiplash go.
You show, you show, t-birds. mighty bird.
T-bird, my mighty bird.
On the dot in the slot, tie the knot.
On the dot timed kisses.
In the slot on the dot, tie the knot.
In the slot, no misses.
Mighty bird.
T-bird, my mighty bird.
T-bird, mighty bird.
Black sun conquerer.
Two thousand years ago... a great race... warriors... lived in... they had many gods... mayans... gods... mazatlan... (if you can fill in these blanks please email [email protected])
Black sun worshipper.
Coil it up, wind it out, strike it hot!
Coil it up plumed serpent.
Coil it up, wind it out, strike it hot!
Coil it up, my t-bird.
Serpent curl.
T-bird, rule the world.
T-bird, mighty bird.
Black sun born again.
Oh I love my t-bird, t-bird.

Hello, Rainbow!

Rainbow, Rainbow
that was her nickname.
A name she had obtained,
for all the colors she'd appreciate.
Rainbow, Rainbow
that was her calling
to come out in style to show the worlds vibrant.
Rainbow, Rainbow
they laughed at her colors
said she was different
not normal like others.
Rainbow, Rainbow
they took her as a joke.
Just a mere girl looking for attention you know?
Rainbow, Rainbow
lover of rain
not a care in the world of what other people say.
Rainbow, Rainbow
she started too change
The world saw her brightly
now shes all black and grey.
Rainbow, Rainbow
why goes this way.
We've all secretly loved you.
So why not stay the same!
Rainbow, Rainbow
you bring us joy
You shed light too our day.
So go back to your ways
Rainbow, Rainbow
we appreciate your love!
We see differently now
so stay who you are.
Rainbow, Rainbow!
That's who I am.
A girl of 14
who is oddly at best.
Rainbow, Rainbow!
Everyone calls me that.
I'm just a use for you all
, but i don't mind that.
Rainbow, Rainbow
A mirror image I am.
A reflection of colors
that most people don't understand.
Rainbow, Rainbow
you called my name?
Why hello I'm here.
To shed light to your day

Unforgiving Love

one day a blue bird fell in love with a white rose..the rose was envious of everybod falling in love and was afraid that she will get hurt..the blue bird told her that he had loved her from afar but was too scared to tell the white rose how much he actaully did...the white rose told the bird when my petals turn from white to red i will fall in love with you back....the blue bird came by and by everyday and told the white rose how much he loved her...until one day the blue bird cut his wings and soaked the white rose with his blood...the white rose's petals turned from white to a luscious red and she realized how much the blue bird loved her..but it was too late the blue bird fell in front of the rose and the rose was red forever..that's why roses are giving to the ones we loved

For My Neighbor

the black birds are
up
hovering over the
green coconut palms

beside the roof of
her new house
she remembers
Noah and her heart

begins to weep
there are other things
that i can see

from all these black birds
my heat too weeps
but i shall not give
her any hint at all.

The Black Bird That Keeps On Flying

the black bird
keeps on flying
over my head

its wing tips
touch my hair

the black bird
weeps
and my mind
cannot ignore
it

it is seeing you
again
and it does not
know
what to do
with its beak

it wants to kiss you
but your eyes
are angry
it wants to land over
your hair
but they are hard
as wires

the black bird
has no nest for
its eggs
you never mind it
your mind
thinks always of
that white bird
in the sky

Karl’s Brew Café In Buhangin

You were singing the joys of your life
In a small café cramped with friends
And some just curious for your voice
And some who knew you can sing
And sing so beautifully
Like a magical bird
Like a mythical bird

Crowded you showered them with
All your love
My three friends texted
“It is sad why you are not here with us
My son danced with her song
He lifted my chair so I will dance too
And oblige to sing one of those songs
He really loved”

Tess I see enjoyed the show very well
And we heard something beautiful

“Without you”, because as you said
You are always “busy somewhere else”

It was that injustice which you did
That we cannot explain to Cynthia

Always your unexplained absence
Always your disappearing act

Paint It Black

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
I see a line of cars and theyre all painted black
With flowers and my love, both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a newborn baby it just happens evryday
I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then Ill fade away and not have to face the facts
Its not easy facing up when your whole world is black
No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not forsee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the setting sun
My love will laugh with me before the morning comes
I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes
Hmm, hmm, hmm...
I wanna see it painted black, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun, blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah

My Submission to Warning

i walk outside
the sun going down
the big black bird
visiting again

he crows at me
im just walking by
but he insists to call
like a warning
i should obey

what do you want
stupid black bird
your turn to leave
dont bother me this way

but he keeps on
calling my name
crowing in shame
as i walk by him

his eyes on me
almost like a sign
whining for attention
waiting for my submission

i surrender to him
he speaks soft
he tells me to stop
he opens his mouth
as the words come out

'i wanted to warn you
theres a man out here
wanting you dead
so dont move ahead
go inside
go to bed'

a warning so soft
the big black bird
waited for my attention
to warn me
the bad man
was out tonight
i didnt move ahead
i went back to bed

Three Black Birds High Up In The Air

three black birds high
up in the air
flying
playing this early morning
on their
swift wings

i heard a single shot from the
hill and one black bird fell
the other two birds continue
to fly away
so frightened

they continue flying away
from that hill

a man with a brown cap emerges
and picks a dead black bird
on the rocky ground

The Color of Life (a written picture)

Blue spruce
- in a green garden
Black bird
- above a yellow field
Brown hawk
- against a red canyon
White cloud
- within a blue sky
Purple silouette
- leaning upon an orange dusk

All the colors
of the earth
And all the colors
of those that live therein
Are all the colors
of all of Life.

Gliding Bird

(Tom Slocum)
Gliding bird gliding through the sky
I'm wondering why I can't be why I can't be as free
Gliding bird gliding all day long
Sing your secret song away from all these faces that I see
Is where I want to be
My feet are so tired
They walked too many miles
If I run so wild like heaven's child
I'll learn to fly someday
Gliding bird riding in the sun
Rainbow colors run
I hear the wind
I hear its mournful call
Gliding bird high above the sea
Is it longing to be free
Your voice is silent
But your wings tell all

A Matter Of Decision

the black bird of loneliness
hovers over the window of the house
and stops to look at
our roof

we shoo it away
there is no place here
where it can build its own nest

we still wait for the bird of bounty
the one that brings us
the eggs of grace
the feathers of happiness

it is the only bird that we welcome here
as a matter of our own decision

Shore Leave Ornithology

Slacks, coffee trend
I could have been in the us navy
Flapping grey, coffee smoke
I could have been in another nineteen-fifty
Where the hell were you?
Rough stencil, print music
Cardboard, cardboard, cardboard, cardboard, cardboard coffee
Saxophone mention barbers, n.y.
The cigarette was burning, the flat shoes
Stool
Bongo, coffee, don't mention that black man
The leather-coat was his
Where was she?
Could have been in the us navy
Flow beating air, table-top, shoulder slung
Shore leave, no sailors here
Cardboard, cardboard, cardboard, cardboard
Liquor slacks twisting
The cigarette was burning
The flat shoes, the flat shoes, the flat shoes
Bird, bird, bird, bird
I could have been in another nineteen-fifty
Bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird
Bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird, bird
I could have been in another nineteen-fifty

A Bird That Whistles

(arrangement of the traditional work corrina, corrina)
Words and music by joni mitchell
I took a house by the water
Took a man on a mountainside
Pretty house by the water
Lovely lover by the waterside
Last time I saw that man
He hung down his head and cried
Corrina, corrina
Do you have to go
Corrina, corrina
Tell me why do you have to go
Just made me come to love you girl
Now you pack your things and go
Leave me this bird that whistles
Leave me this bird that sings
I got a bird that whistles
I got a bird thats singin
If I dont have you darlin
Birds dont mean nothin

The Grey Areas: Revised

they think and teach you
that black is black and white is white

that either you are moral or immoral
that either you leave or stay
that either you die or live
that there are only choices of
either/or

they tell you do not do this
do not do that
do only this and that

they prohibit you and tell you
it is for your own good
as though they are gods
and you are the dogs

an old man with bright eyes
asks me to go near him
and he says: try the middle of things
it is not just black or white but
there are shades and shades of choices
in between

in there everything is allowed.
the grey areas. the exceptions. the exemptions.

try them. they are all exciting. like the colors of the rainbow
like the patches of red, and orange and blue and pink

you see, who is telling you that there are no other colors
than black and white?

i am neither good nor bad.
In truth, i am just myself.

Black Bird Singing

a black bird flies on top of the house
and perches upon a tree
fronting it

i stand by the window
looking at the scenery of sea and sand
and alternating rustic fronds
pine trees and grass

the black bird begins to sing
asking for attention
then we see each other eye to eye

it is i who blink first.
