Makarora
Rocky peaks of Makarora in the summer wear their snow
And down the lush green grassy valley the clear mountain river flow
Songbirds piping in the beechwoods songthrush, bellbird and
redpoll
This a place of peace and beauty Makarora has a soul.
These great mountains look no different than to when the first man came
They have a wild rugged beauty for want of a better name
To the coming generations these high peaks will look the same
Man will not build houses on them man such wildness could not tame.
Summer's come to Makarora and along with her brought her green
Beauty to compare with any with the finest I have seen
This place would inspire an artist peaks in summer white
with snow
Beechwoods and through lush green valley sparkling mountain river flow.
Those high peaks of makarora will not change as years go by
Out there on those rugged mountains bones of Maori hunter lie
Still these mountains keep their secrets monarchs of the higher ground
Overlooking Makarora and the woodlands all around
Snow clad peaks of Makarora reaching upwards towards the sky
I am just a passing stranger and I'll be bidding you goodbye
But I will take with me the memories of beauty I have seen

My Home
How do I find my way back?
I've strayed too far from home.
I've gone so many places
for so many days.
I've even been to Rome.
I have seen so many sights now.
It seems to me that somehow
that every place I've ever seen
were places in-between
from the place that is my home.
My search for brand new places
and all those other places
never filled the gap
as I crossed the map,
so far from my sweet home.
For I missed the landscape,
the place that I grew up in.
The old familiar faces
were not in the places I've been.
And now I must retrace my steps.
I've searched this world all over.
Too long I've been a rover.
I'll take a trip on back
for I'm on the wrong track.
I wonder what I'll find at my home?
Nothing seems the same now.
Familiarity has changed somehow,
except for the peace I feel around me.

Mountains Landscape
Thousand mountains around the parks,
A flock of birds flying high up the skies,
Above the misty clouds,
Above the sea and mountain cliffs.
A sudden appearance of rainstorm,
A heavy downpour flooded the lands,

Goodbye Comics, Hello Books
My Superman series had Bizzarro in it
Spiderman originals, Archie and Friends
It was an addiction, I must admit
But hours of reading fun, they did commend.
My brother and I loved reading those comics
We laughed at hilarious Baby Huey
Spent hours on Batman and Robin
Green Lantern's hero stories.
But Daddy did not approve of it and so
He took all the comic books away
Made me read poems and novels to know
Biographies, and so many essays.
Took trips to 'A Tale of Two Cities'
Had fun with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
'Young Women' to 'Pride and Prejudice'
My readings burnt the midnight oil.
Though today the comics would be precious
That collection could fetch a high price
What I read at that time I now put to use
Dad taught me the best, I now realize.

The Winding Ways Of Gried And Insecurities....

...we have walked for quite a time
in this winding path,
we settled on plateaus
and then started again on those winding
paths of
mountains high
crossed rivers for the nth time
and rested on
grasses with our back
dirties sometimes
...the rains are heavy sometimes
and we feel the cold and some of us
get sick,
hard coughs that seem to take away all
inside our lungs,
pains that stay on our legs for days
the anxieties in our heads
as to where is this journey taking
all of us, , , ,
no one really knows,
but the hope is there,
somewhere is a rainbow
somewhere is a totally new landscape
we imagine what kind of happiness
awaits us there

Why I Run
1. Almost everyday I am able to see you
If for an hour or less
Or three hours or four
To have you in my life is lucky enough
But to see you so frequently
Is truly a gift from above
I cannot wait to get that that call from you
To see your two shadows cross the door
Or when your keys jangle in the lock
As the dog barks from the floor
I love all three of you and each love is new and old
But it is immense in power and strength
And shall never grow cold
Why do I run
I run for you

Quiet as a hunter

On this Friday evening, everyone is home
My Mother, my Father, and Sister
Make sure I never am alone
Unfortunately my Mother is tired from school, my Sister getting ready for bed
My Dad is in the chair, drowsy, bobbing his head
Twilight, my dog jumps for me in glee
“Come take me out Ry-Ry” so I believe she thinks
“I have to go and pee”
Thunder, my cat’s rancorous mowing goes and floods the room
Even though it is annoying
I don’t think I would hit her with a broom
Sleepiness is on to us, time to get in bed
Now I will think about Caitlin and I inside my head
Weariness comes quick, and school looms after dawn
Tomorrow’s afternoon will be terrible
My parents want me to work on the lawn
Now I know I’m not good with rhyme schemes
But I am a poet be it at that
I am definitely no Dr. Seuss who wrote Cat in the Hat
His book Oh the Places You Will Go is better than this poem
Showing the places you are the safest
And knowing where to find them
To summarize this poem
I will make it simple as fact
I love Caitlin and My Family
And this is my way of showing that
