To Jane: The Keen Stars Were Twinkling

I.
The keen stars were twinkling,
And the fair moon was rising among them,
Dear Jane.
The guitar was tinkling,
But the notes were not sweet till you sung them
Again.

II.
As the moon's soft splendour
O'er the faint cold starlight of Heaven
Is thrown,
So your voice most tender
To the strings without soul had then given
Its own.

III.
The stars will awaken,
Though the moon sleep a full hour later
To-night;
No leaf will be shaken
Whilst the dews of your melody scatter
Delight.

IV.
Though the sound overpowers,
Sing again, with your dear voice revealing
A tone
Of some world far from ours,
Where music and moonlight and feeling
Are one.

The bird sleeps in the bamboo grove

It is night.
The moon glows above the grove. There is another moon too in the pond.
The stars too glow, scattered all over the expansive sky.

It is a cool night.

The bird is asleep.

The bird rests on a bamboo branch with thick leaves.

And the night whispers to the bird:
'sleep gentle soul
that sings for delight;
sleep kind heart
that nature fashioned;
sleep while sister moon watches over you
sleep while the stars bless you
with starlight, starlight;
O sleep gentle soul
that sings for delight
sleep all night
in bamboo embrace'

The Night Sky

Night sky, Night sky
Twinkling stars near by
White moon, white moon
You light up the night in full bloom

The night in display
Watching this sky play
Hiding behind the clouds
Are these silvery bright stars

Ready in action
The sky a distraction
Sweet kiss from these tender lips
And the feeling of love at my finger tips

The Poet And The Muse

Whither, and whence, and why hast fled?
Thou art dumb, my muse; thou art dumb, thou art dead,
As a waterless stream, as a leafless tree.
What have I done to banish thee?

But a moon ago, the whole day long
My ears were full of the sound of song;
And still through my darkly silent dreams
Plashed the fitful music of far-off streams.

When the night turned pale and the stars grew dim,
The morning chanted a dewy hymn.
The fragrant languor of cradled noon
Was lulled by the hum of a self-sung tune.

Joy came on the wings of a jocund lay,
And sorrow in harmony passed away;
And the sunny hours of tideless time
Were buoyed on the surges of rolling rhyme.

The moon went up in a cloudless sky,
Silently but melodiously;
And the glitter of stars and the patter of rain
Were notes and chords of an endless strain.

And vision, and feeling, and sound, and scent,
Were the strings of a sensitive instrument,
That silently, patiently, watched and waited,
And unto my soul reverberated.

In the orchard reddens the rounded fruit
'Mid the yellowing leaves, but my voice is mute.
The thinned copse sighs like a heart forsaken,
But not one chord of my soul is shaken.

Through the gloaming broadens the harvest moon;
The fagged hind whistles his homeward tune;
The last load creaks up the hamlet hill;
'Tis only my voice, my voice that is still.

(The Muse answers)
Poet, look in your poet's heart.
It will tell you what keepeth us twain apart.
I have not left you; I still am near.
But a music not mine enchants your ear.

Another hath entered and nestles deep
In the lap of your love, like a babe asleep.
You watch her breathing from morn till night;
She is all your hearing and all your sight.

Yet fear not, poet, to do me wrong.
She is sweeter far than the sweetest song.
One looks and listens the way she went,
As towards lark that is lost in the firmament.

So gladly to her I you resign,
Her caress is tenderer much than mine;
I hover round you, and hear her kiss
With wonder at its melodiousness.

When you gaze on the moon, you see but her.
You hear her feet when the branches stir;
And sunrise and sunset and starlight only
Make their beauty, without her, feel more lonely.

So how should you, poet, hope to sing?
The lute of Love hath a single string.
Its note is sweet as the coo of the dove;
But 'tis only one note, and the note is Love.

But when once you have paired and built your nest,
And can brood therein with a settled breast,
You will sing once more, and your voice will stir
All hearts with the sweetness gained from her.

Here Comes The Moon

Everybodys talking up a storm
Act like they dont notice it
But here it is and here it comes . . .
Here comes the moon, the moon, the moon, the moon, the moon.
Impulse always quickens when its full
As it turns my head around me
Yes it does and here it comes
Here comes the moon, the moon, the moon, the moon, the moon.
Gods gift I see thats moving up there into the night . . .
Though dark the mirror in the sky reflects us our light:
Looks like a little brother to the sun
Or mother to the stars at night
And here it is and here it comes
Here comes the moon, the moon, the moon, the moon, the moon.
Breath is always taken when its new
Enhance upon the clouds around it
Yes it is and here it comes
Here comes the moon, the moon, the moon.

Mihai Eminescu

Leave your world [Lasă-ţi lumea]

Leave behind your world of sorrow
Give yourself to me and glow,
If you were my love tomorrow
No one in the world would know.

Come with me, let's wander purely,
Feeling happy, feeling good,
Where at night awakens surely
The voice of the ancient wood.

Through the branches, stars are twinkling
And the narrow path is clear,
Even if our hearts were tinkling
No one in the world could hear.

And I see your hair is flying
And I'm feeling young and free,
If I hug you, don't start crying
No one in the world will see.

Hush! The horn is sounding clearly
We are listening on our knees,
While the moon is rising freely
From behind the tall beech trees.

The green forest is responding
The leaves tremble with much grace
And my spirit, soft, desponding,
Yearns after your pretty face.

You pretend to loath my passion
Now you want me, now you're shy,
Yet your eyes glow with compassion
My cute angel from the sky.

Watch the lake! The moon, delighted,
Glides above his wilderness,
By her light he is ignited
And he feels his loneliness.

The small ripples, gently rolling,
On his surface seem to creep,
But he hears the world's loud calling
And he cannot fall asleep.

He is filled with inspiration
Mirroring your lovely face,
You don't need his confirmation
That you're nice and full of grace.

The blue sky, always in action,
Covers all the hills and caves,
Showing us with satisfaction
Stars in heavens, stars in waves.

Lime-tree scent is very pleasant
The wind gently shakes a bough,
Only you and I are present
And we are so happy now!

The full moon in mist is shrouded
Yet she's shining from above
Seeing you, wholly surrounded
By my arms, sweet fair-haired love.

True Love Sometimes Gets Unrequitted, And It Is Very Painful

how the moon and the stars
truly loved the sun

how the sun
with its arrogance keeps busy all the day

how the moon hides sometimes
on the nights when the stars
are away

the moon
feeling so lonely
till this day
her true love for the sun
still unrequitted

and indeed it is very painful
the moon bleeds
her tears
and blood flow like her
shining moonlight

Dear Moon Why Are We So Gray?

the skys are black tonight and theres a blue moon above my head
the sky seems sad tonight and now the moon is bleeding red
i look up to the sky
i feel so small
asking it for the answers
but all it ever gives me is silence-all you ever give me is silence
i ask you dear moon 'what's wrong with me y are all my colors gray? '
but u dear moon never answered my question
as the light began transforming night into day
i said 'dear moon why must you be this way? '
and finally you answered much to my delight
u sent a shooting star to chase away the night
and moon u did answer
from your pearch high in the sky
you said to me dearest moon 'i am you and you are i'
so i said 'well y so quite moon? '
and she said 'well y so quite girl? '
and then i had my answer.
everything looks gray in the stars light and you my Love will always be my star.

Full Moon

Havent you noticed a kind of madness in my eyes?
Its only me, dear, in my midnight disguise.
Pay no attention if I crawl across the room.
Its just another full moon.
Dont be afraid of me when Im walking in my sleep.
Dont get alarmed, dear, when I start to crawl and creep.
Try not to listen when I mumble like a loon.
Its just another full moon.
Its just another full moon.
You see before you a truly broken man.
cause when it gets to midnight, I dont know who I am.
Full moons a-callin, and its put a curse on me,
And it will never set me free.
The full moons still up there,
Like a great white balloon.
The owls are a-callin,
And theyre singin my tune.
The night keeps a-callin.
I wish the day would come soon,
To get away from another full moon.
Here comes another full moon.
If your hands start shakin
When night starts to fall,
If youre scared of the moonlight
And the shadows on the wall,
If the face in the mirror
Isnt you at all,
Its just another full moon.
Its just another full moon.
La la la la la la.
La la la la la la.
La la la la la la.
La la la la la la.
Its just another full moon.

The New Moon

What have you got in your knapsack fair,
White moon, bright moon, pearling the air,
Spinning your bobbins and fabrics free,
Fleet moon, sweet moon, in to the sea?
Turquoise and beryl and rings of gold,
Clear moon, dear moon, ne’er to be sold?
Roses and lilies, romance and love,
Still moon, chill moon, swinging above?
Slender your feet as a white birds throat,
High moon, shy moon, drifting your boat
Into the murk of the world awhile,
Slim moon, dim moon, adding a smile.
Tender your eyes as a maiden’s kiss,
Fine moon, wine moon, no one knows this,
Under the spell of your witchery,
Dream moon, cream moon, first he kissed me.

I Want To Sing A Song

I want to sing a song
For long my wish on skies..
So high so far so sweet
So sweet my song so makes
And takes on notes me soar
Me soar to moon and stars
To stars and moon my notes

Happy going going
Going godly tuning
Tuning moving scaling
Scaling music tonic
Tonic songful soulful
Soulful spaceward tuneful
Harken, follow would you..

You sing you sing a song
A song so strong to gong
To gong in tune with mine
So mine and yours to sing
To sing the moon and stars
The stars and moon in tune
In tune with us so high

Moon Moon

When Moon Moon says
In case of me
To be a quite poet is possible
In addition, I have to be a cool.

When Moon Moon says
The days have to face
Good ways
To begin its first hour
To get its special power.

When Moon Moon says
I cannot hear anybody’s voice

When Moon Moon says
I can realize my age
To do something better
Not caring any matter.

When Moon Moon says
I can guess
She says something special
Those are needed for all.

When Moon Moon says
I have to face
Some case in any case.

When Moon Moon says
Sometimes, no case can be found
Without she says, like
“Hi! How are you
For the few
With your near dear
Are there any tears in your eyes?
When she says…”

Man can be silent
Ocean can be island
He can be brilliant
Even
You can be toys
When Moon Moon says.

When Moon Moon says
All guys are nice
To play with their lives.

When Moon Moon says
Everything seems to us
Like a touch
Of heart,
And
That is a part
Of our life
To survive.

When Moon Moon says
Man pays attention much
Because, what she says, is a touch.

If Moon Moon doesn’t say anything
Then for her not saying
All will be dying.

When she stops saying
Everything seems to me lying.

When she will say
I may
Wait for her
Than other
For sine-dine
Even until I die.

A Frostry Night

Mother: Alice, dear, what ails you,
Dazed and white and shaken?
Has the chill night numbed you?
Is it fright you have taken?

Alice: Mother I am very well,
I felt never better;
Mother, do not hold me so,
Let me write my letter.

Mother: Sweet, my dear, what ails you?

Alice: No, but I am well.
The night was cold and frosty,
There's no more to tell.

Mother: Ay, the night was frosty,
Coldly gaped the moon,
Yet the birds seemed twittering
Through green boughs of June.

Soft and thick the snow lay,
Stars danced in the sky.
Not all the lambs of May-day
Skip so bold and high.

Your feet were dancing, Alice,
Seemed to dance on air,
You looked a ghost or angel
In the starlight there.

Your eyes were frosted starlight,
Your heart, fire, and snow.
Who was it said 'I love you?'

Alice: Mother, let me go!

Said the stars to the moon

The stars said to the moon
As they came out to grace the sky
With their twinkling presence
You do not have to dance alone

There are those that have no choice
They must feel the sting of loneliness
Be one apart from many
And make it through night after night

The stars said to the moon
You do not have to dance alone
The moon asked why and the reply
Was because together we are the moon and stars

Moonlight Memories

Sweet and sad
moon light always beads
the lace with memory leads

in my teens
my hormones oozed out
as I curl out
in the moon lit night

as I grew up
my dreams and loves
all blazed in the cool moon
my blood boiled blushed with delight

all the fantasies
all the sweetest memories
romantic webs knit across
the full moon sky with millions stars.

the nights were awake
when she peeped inside
I loved her in watery beds
silvery threads woven in filmy sheds

yet, she weighed upon my nights
when my mother breathed that night
just that night and nomore right
as she blazed at distant sight

I waited till midnight
to relieve motherless plight
at the courtyard bereft
of lovely mother's gait.

the shroud of moon light
now fell upon me tight
it choked me breathless
freezing attractions gayless

I still wonder at full moon nights
if my mother did come out of the grave
and did she engrave her love upon the pave
did the wintry dews make her shiver
and did she cry and groan in fever

the icy night evoked further
terrible sights of dead ones dear
Still, I could not bury the delicate mother
banishing the memories of full moon weather.

Sestina

I saw my soul at rest upon a day
As a bird sleeping in the nest of night,
Among soft leaves that give the starlight way
To touch its wings but not its eyes with light;
So that it knew as one in visions may,
And knew not as men waking, of delight.

This was the measure of my soul's delight;
It had no power of joy to fly by day,
Nor part in the large lordship of the light;
But in a secret moon-beholden way
Had all its will of dreams and pleasant night,
And all the love and life that sleepers may.

But such life's triumph as men waking may
It might not have to feed its faint delight
Between the stars by night and sun by day,
Shut up with green leaves and a little light;
Because its way was as a lost star's way,
A world's not wholly known of day or night.

All loves and dreams and sounds and gleams of night
Made it all music that such minstrels may,
And all they had they gave it of delight;
But in the full face of the fire of day
What place shall be for any starry light,
What part of heaven in all the wide sun's way?

Yet the soul woke not, sleeping by the way,
Watched as a nursling of the large-eyed night,
And sought no strength nor knowledge of the day,
Nor closer touch conclusive of delight,
Nor mightier joy nor truer than dreamers may,
Nor more of song than they, nor more of light.

For who sleeps once and sees the secret light
Whereby sleep shows the soul a fairer way
Between the rise and rest of day and night,
Shall care no more to fare as all men may,
But be his place of pain or of delight,
There shall he dwell, beholding night as day.

Song, have thy day and take thy fill of light
Before the night be fallen across thy way;
Sing while he may, man hath no long delight.

Never is she shut #never is she shut

You are my Sun.
You are now set.
You brought me dawn
Everyday at ten.
You sent me dusk
Everyday at five.
Weekend two days,
You left me in dark.

You shone on me for brief,
But heavily, brightly
And deeply with warmth.
That referred warmth
Spread all the night.
I felt the shine of my Sun,
Off the dusk, at full night.
My night is brightly lit.

Now my sun is set.
Where is my dawn?
Where is my dusk?
Where is the sunny day?
Where is my beauty?
Who will there be to lit
My night-full day?
And dreaded night?

You be a Moon, now on.
Waxing and waning,
Be always on horizon
So that there comes
Once a while a full-moon,
To imbue me with life.
My day-less night
Is lit with Moonlight.

You be my stars, farther.
You twinkle and twinkle
At me high from horizon!
With your news, beckon!
With your heart, command!
I am in the bath of starlight.
My night-full day is lit.

My sun, though, is set,
No dark is there at night.
She is there as Moon.
She is there as Stars.
Though she is set as Sun.
I’m now a nocturnal.
She can never be set
Out of my heart and soul.

Darkened Hope

She left me when the moon came out
and the stars were in the sky.
She left me when the moon came out
and never told me why?
At night I'd sit out in the dark
to wait for her return.
At night I'd sit out in the dark
and watch the starlight burn.

It burned into my wakefulness
and so I could not sleep.
It burned into my consciousness
and in my brain did creep
this hollow feeling that does not leave.
It never goes away.
This hollow feeling that makes me grieve
always seems to stay.

And so each night I sit outside
and wait for the moon to shine.
I pray for the stars to bring her back
so once again she's mine.

Moonlight

I love you, dear, o' morn and moon.
I love your ev'ry mood and guise;
But, neath the soft, enchanting moon,
Such loveliness the gods must prize.
'Tis then I long to dare and fight
The world for you, my queen o' night.

We wander in a jewelled bower;
And, tho' I be your humble slave,
Within that brief, enchanted hour
I know that I am strong and brave.
'Tis then red war I yearn to make
And conquer worlds for your sweet sake.

And old romance in splendour comes
From out the hills to linger nigh;
And in our cause the brave old gums
Stand sentinel against the sky.
'Tis then I would outrival Mars
For you - the sovereign of the stars!

The Stars And The Moon

Sitting down on a bench outside my residence,
I could see the stars far away in heaven;
It seems to me like,
The stars are spelling out my name.
Over here in Africa,
I keep on wondering about the nature of things;
The very patterns of the Creator's mind which,
Is yet to be understood by many!
At times it is very easy to see the stars up there,
But at times too there are no stars at all! !
How far are they, if i may ask?
How big are they, viewing from my compound?
This makes me wonder about the stars at night.
Oh creation, why has it taken us such a longer time?
We still don't understand many of your wonders;
Are we clever to see or, too blind to see?
I don't even understand some of your myths.
Like the mystic cloud of the air is,
My delight of the realms to write this muse;
There are days that i could see the Stars but,
The Moon takes over at times.
The very moon-light that helps us in the villages,
The very time to gather around by the fire side;
To listen to stories and folklore tales like,
The tales by the moon-light as the saying goes.
The 'Kwaku Ananse' stories and,
That of 'Mr. Tortoise' stories from our Elders.
Sitting on a bench outside in Africa,
I could see the stars spell out my name;
Lovely Stars of my heart,
My candle is yet to burn out;
At times, i do see the Moon as well.
My state of heart is for you oh Moon!
One day, i will visit you up there;
Directional moon to my soul,
How sound is your hospitality out there?
In my viewing views, i could see you up there;
In my wondering of things, there you are!
Oh, the Stars and the Moon out there;
Greetings from me to you all.

Nothin New Under The Moon

Nowhere to go.
All night took everything.
Another nice try with mr. wrong.
Late night tv on my horizon.
National anthem and Im barely hangin on.
Just a typical saturday night.
Feeling like the rest of my life.
There was nothing new under the moon.
Same old dance, same old tune.
Just wishes on stars that never came true.
Just one more night to get through.
But there was nothing new under the moon, til you.
Hey what a change.
Hey what a concept.
Heres a true heart wanting mine.
News flash! whod ever thought you could
Have the same feeling at the very same time?
Look at what your loves doing to me.
I cant believe I used to believe
That there was nothing new under the moon.
Same old dance, same old tune.
Just wishes on stars that never came true.
Just one more night to get through.
There was nothing new under the moon, til you.
Nothin new under the moon
Same old dance, same old tune.
Just wishes on stars that never came true.
Just one more night to get through.
There was nothing new under the moon, til you.
Nothin new under the moon, til you.
There was nothing new under the moon, til you.
Nothin new, til you.
