Better Than Gold

The day I walked out the door
With only the clothes I wore
I left you with all those things
You even had our two rings
I was down but not for long
I worked until I was strong
Soon I had more than before
But didn't flaunt it anymore
This time she had to love me
What I have she did not see
Until the day I was sure
That what's in her heart is pure
Then I'll open up and share
After all that's only fair
Then that day finally came
To show her what's in my name
She laughed so hard that she cried
I was soon to be surprised
When she showed me her accounts
I couldn't believe the amounts
The best part you will agree
We gave most to charity
Now, I live a simple life
Modest home, adoring wife
It's better to me than gold
True love is enough to hold

You're Stealin

vs.1 You called me up the other day
And asked if you could get your stuff back.
I tell you I don't want it, so
Come get all of your trash.
When you showed up at my front door,
I tried hard not to care.
It didn't help that you looked better than before,
And it's not the least bit fair, that
(chorus)
You're stealin' my heart out of me,
You're stealin' the love out of me,
You're stealin' everything from me you want.
Tell me, why are you stealin' these,
Why are you stealin' these things,
When you already have somethin' to hold?
vs.2 Before you left, I walked outside,
And wandered to the back of the house.
I was thinkin' 'bout the past, so
My heart was screamin' loud.
I went back inside, ad it seemed like
All you left me was the couch and tv.
Though that's not really true; there was more than meets the eye,
But I couldn't help wonderin', 'Why is he doin' this to me? ! '
(chorus)
Yeah, you already have somethin' to hold.
Ohh, oh.
(instrumental)
Whoa, uh-ohh.
Yeah, I don't know why you're doin' this to me!
(chorus) x2
You already have somethin' to hold!

Love Is Not Enough

(Jo Dee Messina/Mike Reid)
Sometimes I have to tell myself to keep on breathing
My heart is not believing you're gone
I try hard to remind myself time will do the healing
'Cause right now I'm not feeling all that strong
Everything's a memory
And they're taunting me
Just one simple thing
And I'll break down and cry
Chorus:
Why I wanna scream it's just not fair
Pray to god I didn't care
I wanna turn back time
Turn back time and have you here with me
I want to find someone to blame
But sometimes life gets in the way
And it doesn't care how much we love
'Cause sometimes love is just not enough
Oh we took a chance we gave it all we had and couldn't make it
It didn't work for all the times we tried
No matter how we loved, it seemed the odds were stacked against us
Now we have to live our separate lives
Well I'm not ready yet
Too much to forget
Oh it still feels like
A part of me is dying
Repeat chorus
Sometimes love is just not
How come love is just not
Enough

Stories Of Hope Series #12 Forsaken

My heart was forsaken by the one I loved
She said my love wasn’t good enough.
If I truly loved her I would give her the material things
Necklaces, pearls, and diamond rings.
She said that love is in the giving
Without these things life is not worth living.

That’s when I decided to change my tune
I couldn’t get away too soon.
I took my heart and hid it deep in my chest
And to protect it I would do my best.
I became like a zombie- mindless and blank
And my heart I did forsake.

Surrounded by people that I did not see
Feeling hurt and angry as can be.
Friends and family started to pull away.
there was nothing left for them to say.

Then I was walking home from work one night
I glanced down the street, there was this
Woman rubbing her feet.
As I got closer I could see that her ankle
Was as swollen as can be.

Can I help you? Do you need a hand?
She answered: well! “If you could
Help me try to stand.”
Her foot so swollen she screamed in pain
Trying to walk would be in vain.

I asked her: where do you live?
She said: “up the block- the house on the corner
On the second floor.”
I knew that she could not walk no more.

I swooped her up in my arms, and started down the street
The smell of her perfume delicious and sweet.
I had never really looked at her face until then
She had light brown hair, and eyes as well
When I felt my heart begin to swell.
A smile from ear to ear, and of me she had no fear.

I carried her all the way home, and up the steps
To her door. (I felt as if I had been here before)
I asked: do you need a hand to get in?
She looked at me with a grin.
She said: you carried me this far, if you’d like
Some coffee, I’ll open the jar.”

I opened the door and carried her to a chair
The apartment looked small and comfortable
And quite fair.
I said: I’ll make the coffee! You just sit and rest
I’m not good at this, but I’ll do my best.
I made the coffee and we sat and talked
Time passed by quickly and we didn’t know
That the sun was coming up, and it was time to go.
The sun shone thru the blinds creating reflections
On the mirrored wall.
Prisms of light surrounded our faces
And we saw our faces all aglow
It was truly amazing and quite a show.
I asked her if I could see her again
And hopefully become more than a friend.
She said: I would really like that to.
So I told her I will call on you.
My heart had finally become free, and took me
Out of this misery.
For six months we dated and enjoyed each others company
The riches I gave her, she gave back to me.
Love has no price, but yet worth more than gold
And it is something that we can truly hold.
Not in our hands but in our hearts, and it becomes the biggest part.
We had become more than friends, and I guess you know the end.
HOPE IS THE KEY TO SET OURSELVES FREE.

Home Ain't Where His Heart Is

He knew how to reach me deep inside
And he found a part of me i could not hide
And we'd walk and talk and touch tenderly
Then he'd lay me down and make love to me
We built a love so strong and couldn't break
There was not a road we were afraid to take
And we'd kiss all the way from arkansas to rome
'cause in each other's arms we were home sweet home
But he don't feel the same
Since our lives became
Years of bills, babies and chains
Home ain't where his heart is anymore
He may hang his hat behind our bedroom door
But he don't lay his head down to love me like before
Home ain't where his heart is anymore
If foundations made of stone can turn to dust
Then the hardest hearts of steel can turn to rust
If he could only find that feeling once again
If we could only change the way the story ends
And he may still come home
But i live here alone
The love that built these walls is gone
Home ain't where his heart is anymore
He may hang his hat behind our bedroom door
But he don't lay his head down to love me like before
He don't lay his head down to love me like before
Home ain't where his heart is anymore
No, home ain't where his heart is

The End Of The World

Go if you want to
I never tried to stop you
Know there's a reason
For all of this you're feeling
Low, it's not my call
You couldn't ever love me more
You couldn't love me more
You couldn't love...
Me - I don't show much
It's not that hard to hide you
See in a moment
I can't remember how to
Be all you wanted
I couldn't ever love you more
I couldn't love you more
I couldn't love...
You want me to cry and play my part
I want you to sigh and fall apart
We want this like everyone else
Stay if you want to
I always wait to hear you say
There's a last kiss
For all the times you run this way
It's not my fault
You couldn't ever love me more
You couldn't love me more
You couldn't love...
Love me more
Couldn't ever love me more
I couldn't love you more
I couldn't love
You want me to lie not break your heart
I want you to fly not stop and start
We want us like everything else
Maybe we didn't understand
Not just a boy and a girl
It's just the end of the
End of the world
Me - I don't say much
It's far too hard to make you
See in a moment
I still forget just how to
Be all you wanted
I couldn't ever love you more
I couldn't love you more
I couldn't love you more
I couldn't love you more
I couldn't love you more

Sorrow

I walked into the park and saw a young man sitting by a flower bed
I asked him why he looked so miserable and this is what he said,
“Sixty years ago I fell in love with a beautiful girl and now she has to die
I knew her time would come one day, but the years have just flashed by.

I knew that it was wrong to love her, but my heart ruled over my head.
I was there when she was born at home and I stood by her mother’s bed.
As the years passed I watched over her, and proposed when she was sixteen.
She was so young and beautiful then, and everyday we lived a dream.

She didn’t know that I was different and I just couldn’t bear to tell her so,
but she had suspicions as her hair greyed, and my age didn’t show.
And now my heart is breaking because I want to die and be with my wife,
without her my life isn’t worth living, and I no longer want this life.

For sixty years life has been wonderful for me and my only true love,
but soon I must take her up and leave her in the heavens above.
I don’t know how I’m going to take the woman I adore from my side.
I’m sorry for sharing my sorrow with you, ” and as he left he cried.

The Only Love

I can relate
The story of my life
No brighter hope
No stronger emotion
I believed I could die over you
How you could ever
Break down and never see me through
Through my darkest night

And as I lie awake
One prayer within me burning
And there's no price on what you hold
Till it's gone
And it keeps moving on

(CHORUS)
Where is my heart
You know I will be waiting to be
A part of you
You'll never feel the pain
How can you say to me
That I should go on living
I left the only life I had with you
The only love
No use in me pretending to be
A part of you
And you the heart of me
How can you say to me
That I should go on living
I left the only life I had with you

So we agree
To let each other go
No long goodbye
Just your way and my way
And I can stand how you cried to be free
High as the wind blows
But not enough to bring you home to me
And only lonely knows

You see my open arms
You know my flame is burning
But I'm too blind to see the end has begun
And it keeps movin' on

(CHORUS)
The only love
No use in me pretending to be
A part of you
And you the heart of me
How can you say to me
That I should go on living
I left the only life I had with you

The only love
One love that will not die
I may sorry that I built my
World around you
The only love
Is only you and I
There will be others who would
Leave you as I found you

Sonnet: To My Mother Dear

You could not give me land or gold or wealth,
But helped me get precious Education;
You could not give me luxuries but health,
But showed to labor with dedication.

You could not show me grandeur of my life,
But showed me how to live in piety;
You could not find me a much wealthier wife,
But showed me how to do true charity.

You could not show me pomp and show and bliss,
But showed me how to live God-fearingly;
You showed me to prayers not ever miss,
And showed me speak the truth so daringly.

You could not guide me how to reach my goal,
But showed me how to keep holy, my soul.

I Can't Love You Any Less

(Teddy Gentry/Randy Owen/Ronnie Rogers/Greg Fowler)
My heart fell to the floor
The night you broke the news
Said you couldn't feel it anymore
Those words that rolled off your tongue
Tore my world in two
As you turned and walked on out the door
I've been trying to get over you
And get on with my life
But the more I do without you
The more I realize
I can't love you any less, no matter how I try
You left me with a feeling, that just won't seem to die
And it's killing me knowing, I'll never hold you like before
I don't love you any less
You don't love me anymore
Well girl I hope you never feel
The way I feel tonight
It's a hopeless kind of pain
Well I'm not even comin' close
To gettin' over you
Feels like it's never gonna end
So why do I keep hangin' on
And wastin' my time
Wish I could let you go
But this old heart of mine
Can't love you any less, no matter how I try
You left me with a feeling, that just won't seem to die
And it's killing me knowing, I'll never hold you like before
I don't love you any less
You don't love me anymore
Girl, I don't love you any less
You don't love me anymore

My Modest Life....[LONG; Personal; Humor]

i grew up in a modest home. the nearby country i did roam.
modest were my mom and dad. four modest siblings i also had.
geneva was a modest town. at graduation i wore a modest cap and gown.
(ok….my cap had a gold tassel. about that, please don't give me a hassle.)

then i modestly went to cornell; that i'd quit three years later who could tell?
i modestly quit my church beliefs. that there's no hell, for me i'm betting.
i became a conscientious objector and worked two years in hospital setting.
i roomed in a modest home. by foot, bike, and bus i did roam.

then i shared an apartment with brother don. i did modest jobs for modest wages.
my general appearance i think was plain. i was modest, ….not vain.
except for occasional, mild 'depression', it seemed i had not a care.
then (past twenty-five years old) i sought a partner from the sex pool more fair.

first wife (pam) was not so modest…..if by modest one means plain.
she gave birth to our modest daughter (shannon) ....... after a short labor but lots of pain.
pam and i shared five modest homes, and we had a modest dog.
we had a modest divorce....though nine years together we did log.

then i had modest apartments and two modest girlfriends, and kept my modest postal job.
then i married and divorced wife two (debbie) , .....she was at times irrational and a slob.
my very modest yugo i replaced with a honda, the last of my modest cars.
the end of marriage to third wife (donna) i blame (in part) on her emotional lifetime scars.

in 2004 i retired 'early'…. as post office chose to downsize.
at the time i lived in modest comfort.... in a senior citizen highrise.
i modestly pursued volunteer work as i'd done on and off since '86.
with no ties binding me i moved to hometown geneva; some would call it 'move to the sticks'.

i spent a modest few months in cousin's apartment. eye to eye we did not see, .......
so i got my own modest place near college fieldhouse, and walked indoor track for a modest fee.
i found a modest café, 'flour petal', and many modest hours there i enjoyed.
i wrote poems, and........with thoughts of a new partner i no longer toyed.

i met a modest new friend angel. he, it turned out, had some 'issues'.
i made a modest bed of banana boxes, and blew my nose on toilet tissues.
i developed mild hypertension. it seems in control now without pills.
i walked roads and sidewalks in modest shoes, wore modest clothes with no frills.

then a former postal customer, and old guy, henry, 'said': ‘find a geneva woman on the internet'.
he jarred me into action, and that's how my present wife i 'met'.
after a month of emails we met in ithaca (new york state) , though she lived on the west coast.
did she find me irresistable? i don't know, ......and i shall not boast.

she lured me to join her, in san carlos, in her new, not-so-modest-but-small house.
my wife also has a small though not-so-modest car, a prius, which can be quiet as a mouse.
i flew here on a trial basis but stayed to share our lives together.
i'm still a modest guy, trying not to be spoiled by the mild san francisco bay area weather.

i've had a modest ponytail, and i'm modest about my child's success.
but i've eaten a few immodest restaurant meals. they weren't my idea......as you might guess.
i'd say our tv set's not modest, but it's only used to watch library flicks.
(by 'modest' i mean plain or simple; with luxury i seldom mix.)

but i'm not COMPLETELY modest when it comes to my self-image. [ I THINK I'M REALLY GREAT! ]
i have lots of common sense, and......i'm very seldom ever late.

Zoe Jane

Well I want you to notice
To notice when I'm not around
I know your eyes see straight through me
And speak to me without a sound
And I want to hold you
Protect you from all of the things I've already endured
And I want to show you
To show you all the things that this life has in store for you
I'll always love you
The way a father should love his daughter
When I walked out this morning
I cried as I walked to the door
I cried about how long I'd be away for
I cried about leaving you all alone
And I want to hold you
Protect you from all of the things I've already endured
And I want to show you
To show you all the things that this life has in store for you
I'll always love you
The way a father should love his daughter
Sweet Zoe Jane
Sweet Zoe Jane
So I wanted to say this
'cause I wouldn't know where to begin
To explain to you what I have been through
To explain where your daddy has been
And I want to hold you
Protect you from all of the things I've already endured
And I want to show you
To show you all the things that this life has in store for you
I'll always love you
The way a father should love his daughter

When you walked in my life...

When you walked in my life
You wiped my tears
When you walked in my life
You built my heart strong
When you walked in my life
You made my life precious
When you walked in my life
You taught me meaning of love
When you walked in my life
You showed me many things
When you walked in my life
You made my love grow for you
When you walked in my life
You told me how much I mean to you
When you walked in my life

She had loved

She had loved,

Loved with the passion of a thousand loves

All of her hurt and pain went into this love

A love that no one had ever known

The ache and hurt from all the others went into the act of loving

The abuse of all the others went into her passion

The pain of rejection from family and friends went into the love making

She could never feel the hurt again so she put it into the passion and heat they two had when they where together

And when she was alone she would cry for the pain

Pain for the fear that she might never love

Cry for all the abuse that was put onto her body

Some in part to find love

Some in part to feel something instead of being loved

She used her body as a vessel to get what she wanted

And never showed love when doing it

She gave herself to forget herself and all the pain and fear and anguish

She gave and gave and showed no emotion in doing so

She knew that no one would really know her

Or really loved her

They were all just lovers without the love and all of the passion

She used what she knew

And passion is what she knew best

She had passion in the way she walked and talked and all the things that she did

She never showed her true colors

Until she found that love

And poured it all into the love making that she gave and cried for a different reason

She now cried for the loved that she had found and wanted

She gave all of her and more then needed to give to one person

That love that she had never had and wanted so desperately she gave to this person and that person never really understood her

She thought that this would never end and never wanted it to

But when the love in the love making faded it was just empty

And from then on all of her became empty

She did not know how to show true love and slowly lost her passion

All of her passion for all of the things that made her lovable

So now she was never to find that love again

Now she was passionless and empty

Empty was she would remain to be

Hallow once again just a vessel for others to abuse

and confuse for what they thought was love

Love that she would and could never feel again

Charity

Charity begins at home,
Love begins in the womb,
Hope is the mind that lives at peace always.

The bud opens,
The flower blossoms,
Charity envies not;
So, let no man despise your youth and beauty.

A kiss of charity,
Like a true proverb;
Charity out of a pure heart is full of kindness.

When the Almond Tree blossoms,
Charity is full of love;
So is this muse that flows to teach many.
Let all your things be done with charity,
Charity is very kind;
Let all your dreams be with love,
Charity edifies;
And, be very wise always.
Do not let charity pass you by,
Gain your hope from your gift;
Cos', it will always lead you on.

Charity begins at home,
So compare her actions rooted in your yard;
Charity out of a pure heart is full of kindness,
So compare her acts ruling in the year;
Charity envies no one.

The love of a muse,
The love of the acts;
Charity begins at home.

Second Chances

We met one night
through strange circumstances
in this life we live
given second chances

To open doors to find
new romances
that kept us behind
from another start

All was there to give
love showed through a heart
once broken with promises
and stolen kisses
that left us torn apart

Still we found each other
learned to love one another
with no compromises

On this stage of lonely dances
swept away
memories finally fade
to face the truth and consequences
of a past long forgotten

And if I was to do it over again
your love I would still hold in my hand
with all that we made

Where once alone, we would stand
lost without a friend
something we could'nt comprehend
with a heart we never thought would mend

Now we are here together
with a love to share forever
where what was once wrong
now feel's so right
with you is where I belong
this love I feel so strong

Dedicated to: Sara
May happiness always be with you

Thank You Mom

always, always, and forever...
All, always, always, and forever...
(joel)
I'm sitting here i'm thinking back to a time when i was young...
My memory, is clear as day
I'm listening to the dishes clink, you were downstairs, you would sing
Songs of praise
And all the times we laughed with you, and all the times that you stayed true
To us
Now we'll say...
I said i thank you, we'll always thank you
More than you would know, than i could ever show
And i love you, i'll always love you
There's nothing i won't do, to say these words to you
That you're beautiful forever...
(chorus)
All, always, always, and forever...
You were my mom, you were my dad, the only thing i ever had was you, it's true
And even when the times got hard, you were there to let us know...that we'd get
Through
You showed me how to be a man, you taught me how to understand the things,
People do
You showed me how to love my god, you taught me that not everyone... knows the
Truth
And i thank you, we'll always thank you
More than you would know, than i could ever show
And i love you, we'll always love you
There's nothing i won't do, to say these words to you
That you will live forever...
(acoustic guitar solo)
Forever...
And ever...
(bridge)
Forever...
And ever...
I said i thank you, we'll always thank you
More than would know, than i could ever show
And i love you, we'll always love you...
There's nothing i won't do, to say these words to you
And i thank you, we'll always thank you...
More than you would know, than i could ever show
And i love you, we'll always love you
There's nothing i won't do, to say these words to say
That, you will never, ever...
Ohhhhhh...

Aces & 8's

Walked up in the bar and sat down on the stool
And got the low down from the guy with the jewel
He was playin pool and he thought he was good
Cause he bet me five dimes, he could sink em with his foot
He grabbed a stick, tried to kick it with his heel
Did a sick back flip and ended up full kneel
He didn't squeal, but it looked like it hurt
And it did cause he took me for my cash and my shirt
I got worked, but what's worse than that
Just as he was leaving he tipped his hat
Then he laughed and said, I'm sorry bout your luck
When he walked out the door he got hit by a truck
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
How bout the guy, used to hang in the clubs
Getting all the numbers and getting all the love
He didn't wear gloves, he was too hard core
May he rest in peace, we don't see him anymore
Lots of stories and old cliches
Small town girl tryin to make her way
She moved to the city, all she wanted was a job
Now she's underneath the desk tryin to move to the top
It won't stop cause the circle won't let it
Be careful what you wish for, you might get it
You know the cat got macked by the bees
He was messin with the honey and the mouse and the cheese
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
You could beat the system, you could beat your girl
But who ya gonna beat come the end of the world
Imagine everything you ever worked for, strived for
Suddenly becomin everything your gonna die for
Now what'd ya live for
Nothing anymore right
How could you live your whole life uptight
See everything you did and everything you seen
Rolled around in the mud, but you couldn't come clean
And that makes you dirty, now how does that feel
Living life like an open cut that won't heal
Sore at the world and you don't know why
You bounced like a ball and that's how you'll die
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
That's a dead man's hand
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's
Ace's and eight's

Sonnet: My Mother Dear

You could not give me land or gold or wealth,
But helped me get precious education;
You could not give me luxuries but health,
But showed labor mixed with dedication.

You could not show me the grandeur of Life,
But showed me how to live in piety;
You could not find me a wealthier wife,
But showed me how to do true charity,

You could not show me pomp and show and bliss,
But showed me how to live God-fearingly;
You should me my prayers to never miss,
And showed me speak the truth so daringly.

You could not guide me how to reach my goal,
But showed me how to keep holy, my soul.

6-23-2003 by Dr John Celes
dedicated to my most belov'd and revered Great Mother who lives a courageous life at eighty-five in an old, ramshackled, dwelling place in Coimbatore, T.N., India

Never Far Away (feat. Richard Marx)

Every day I'd wake and ask myself
Was I strong enough for you
Foolish doubts and fears took me away
I'm sorry now you never knew
For so long I've wondered where you are
Underneath a tapestry of stars
In my heart I knew you'd come again
I just didn't know where or when
Heaven waits for us
Through love's open door
And it's brought you back to me once more
Heart don't fail me now
Now that you are near
Love was never faraway from here
I have tried to make some sense of this
Guess I needed time away
Once I realized how foolish I'd been
I couldn't waste another day
I forgive you with my heart and soul
And now it's time for us lose control
Take me in your arms like you did before
Darling,don't talk anymore
CHORUS
Somewhere deep inside I always knew
That I was meant to spend my life with you
You're the only answer to my prayers
I knew that love would lead us back somewhere
Through love's open door
And it's brought you back to me once more
Heart don't fail me now
Now that you are near
Love was never faraway from here
