The Sister's Lullaby
You would not slumber
If laid at my breast:
You would not slumber.
The river-flood beats
The swan from her nest:
You would not slumber.
And like that quick flood
My blood goes unguessed:
You would not slumber.
Times without number
Has called the wood quest:
Times without number.
As oft as she called
To me you were pressed:
Times without number.
Now you'd not slumber
If laid at my breast
Times without number.
O starling reed-resting,
I’ll rock you to rest:
So you will slumber.

John And Elvis Are Dead
(George Michael)
Close friend of mine as a child fell into a slumber
No sign of life since '75
Then one day he just, what do you know
I guess God just called his number
He called me up he called me up and said
"I've been awake about a week
I'm thinking about asking the doctor
If he could put me back to sleep"
Then he laughed and said
"Hey all the girls they look the same"
Don't they know just what their mothers
Paid in blood, and tears to change
But the words that made me cry
The thing he softly said
It stayed with me, it keeps messing with my head
He said, "If Jesus Christ is alive and well
Then how come John

Orchard Song
Cool murmur of water through apple-wood
Troughs without number
The whole orchard fills, whilst the leaves
Lend their music to slumber.
Tunnel of Wind
In a tunnel of wind and blood
My spirit reigns and calls the flood.
My laughter sings now that I’ve began
The ruling of love in this life I ran.
My windy tunnel of hate is gone,
It stopped its blowing when I did yawn.
The living is yet to begin in slumber,
The arms and legs are too much number.
The blood and organs feel again,
This wind is soaring like to airmen.

Sleep Well
Sleep well my dear
And may you find the morning bright
And may your dreams of fond delight
Entrance you while you slumber.
Sleep well my dear
And may angels dance in fairytales
And ships float by with magic sails
To delight you while you slumber.
Sleep well my dear
And may your cares float clear away
And may you hear me softly say
I love you while you slumber.

Ode To Sleep
Gentle divinity, how have I merited?
Whither, unfortunate wretch, have I strayed,
Thus of thy bounty to lie disenherited -
I alone whilst every other is paid?
Sleeping are cattle and birds without number,
Beasts of the wilderness rest in their lair;
Even the hills, as if weary, feign slumber,
Even the torment sighs soft in the air.
Lulled are the shuttering waves of the ocean,
Seas in the lap of the land lie at peace.
Only for me in monotonous motion
Day follows day, and there comes no release.
Moonlight & starlight & light of the morning
Seven times flit o'er my feverish cheek.
Once again Dawn's chilly hand offers warning.
Whither, oh whither for rest shall I seek?
Had I the eyes of an Argus, nor heeded
Ever to keep my whole body awake -
Half of the sentries alone being needed -
Still I could never my slumber-thirst slake.
Yet - if there's one in the arms of a lover
Scornful of sleep and the joy that sleep brings,
Come thou to me! I'll not ask thee to cover
My eyes with the fullest extant of thy wings
Happier suitors may sue for such blessing,
I'll beg a touch, be it ever so slight,
Of thy wand, or a whisk of thy garment caressing
My eyelids to droop as it crosses the night.

In The Still Of The Night
In the still of the night
As I gaze out of my window
At the moon in its flight
My thoughts all stray, stray to you
In the still of the night
While the world lies in slumber
Oh the times without number
When I say to you
Do you love me
Just like I love you
Are you my life to be
That dream come true
Or will this dream of mine
Will it fade way out of sight
Just like that moon growing dim
Way out on the rim of the hill
In the still of the night

Only The Best Will Do
Elegant faces
Wont you stand aside
Im only looking for the real ride
Nows not the time
To run away and hide
* Ive got no time for fakers
Only the best will do
Looking through my eyes, baby
Its such a spectacular view
Now that these times are changing
Only the best will do
Pale imitations
Will fade away
People are talking
With nothing to say
I wouldnt let anyone
Talk to me that way
(* repeat)
You
** aint that peculiar
Neptunes your ruler
Awake from your slumber
Give me your number
How candid the camera
That captures the best of you
Only the best will do
(* repeat)
Only the best will do

Comatose
The doors are closed and the walls are white
Someone calls but i don't want to talk tonight
Stay away you all want to.......stay away
I'm going to be all right......all right
Chorus:
Within the arms of slumber
Going to leave it all behind
Comatose gone under
Like all the other times
With pride and disdain i'm going to ignore this pain
When someone falls you're supposed to get up again
I try to oblige but i can't tonight
I'm going to be all right......all right
Chorus
Comfort of my dreams
I resign myself to you
Dream as i might
I'm sleeping when i'm blue
Such a pleasure when i feel myself go under
So stay away....stay away
While i'm in the arms of slumber
And i'm leaving it all behind
The magic of sweet morpheus you're doing it once again
You saved me from my sadness you saved me from my pain
Protect me from depression protect me one more night
And i'll be all right......all right
Chorus
Comfort of my dreams
I resign myself to you
Dream as i might
I'm sleeping when i'm blue
Such a pleasure when i feel myself go under
So stay away....stay away
While i'm in the arms of slumber

The River Of Sleep
There are curious isles in the River of Sleep,
Curious isles without number.
We'll visit them all as we leisurely creep
Down the winding stream whose current is deep,
In our beautiful barge of Slumber.
The very first isle in this wonderful stream
Quite close to the shore is lying,
And after a supper of cakes and cream
We come to the Night-Mare-Isle with a scream,
And hurry away from it crying.
And next is the Island-of-Lullaby,
And every one there rejoices.
The winds are only a perfumed sigh,
And the birds that sing in the treetops try
To imitate Mothers' voices.
A little beyond is the Isle-of-Dreams;
Oh, that is the place to be straying.
Everything there is just as it seems;
Dolls are real and sunshine gleams,
And no one calls us from playing.
And then we come to the drollest isle,
And the funniest sounds come pouring
Down from its borderlands once in a while,
And we lean o'er our barge and listen and smile;
For that is the Isle-of-Snoring.
And the very last isle in the River of Sleep
Is the sunshiny Isle-of-Waking.
We see it first with our eyes a-peep,
And we give a yawn-then away we leap,
The barge of Slumber forsaking.

Too Slow To Think
Step aside like the others,
After waking from a slumber.
Shake away your numbness from sleep.
Step aside like the others,
After waking from a slumber.
No need to jump ahead in front with a leap.
You need assistance to keep up with the rhythm.
And...
Your pace is just too slow to think you'll fit in.
The speed has sped to quicken.
And explanations are out of date,
For those trying to catch up much too late.
Where have you been?
To think that you can catch up running.
Where have you been?
To think that others for you wait.
Where have you been?
Your space has been replaced.
And where have you been?
To think that people owe you patience,
With only you to think on their minds.
Not today at this hour of time.
Where have you been?
Your space has been replaced.
And where have you been?
To think that people keep patience,
With only you to think on their minds.
Not today at this hour of time.
Step aside like the others,
After waking from a slumber.
Shake away your numbness from sleep.
Where have you been?
To think that you can catch up running.
Where have you been?
To think that others for you wait.
Where have you been?
Your space has been replaced.
And where have you been?
To think that people owe you patience,
With only you to think on their minds.
Not today at this hour of time.
Step aside,
Like the others after slumber.
Step aside,
Like the others from a sleep.
Step aside,
Like the others after slumber.
Step aside,
Like the others from a sleep.
Step aside.
You're too slow to think.
Step aside.
You're too slow to think.
Step aside.
Step aside...
Like the others after slumber.
Step aside,
Like the others from a sleep,
You're too slow to think.
You're too slow to think.

Falling From Heaven
Above are the heavens where we construct our thoughts,
Then falling, we consolidate the learning with refreshment.
Water has flowed, we entice the growth of human structure,
Wasting is a disease, of the self, over a fountain we enjoy.
Falling again, the stage has arrived to embitter me and my comrades.
False attention I proclaim, fellowship is my control,
Join him or her to the self, as a controlling soul,
Marry the other, marry the others, with dignity
And you fall from slumber and enter nervous feelings
That scare you into a school of slumber, the stage we enter.
Slumber is a supper to be deserted from,
Away must you fall into the earth and its air
Falling not floating, forcing the ground to be studied by oneself.

The Brethren
SLUMBER and Sleep, two brethren ordain'd by the gods to their service,
Were by Prometheus implored, comfort to give to his race;
But though so light to the gods, too heavy for man was their burden,
We in their slumber find sleep, we in their sleep meet with death.

Cradle Song Of The Cossack Mother
Slumber sweet, my fairest baby,
Slumber calmly, sleep—
Peaceful moonbeams light thy chamber,
In thy cradle creep;
I will tell to thee a story,
Pure as dewdrop glow,
Close those two beloved eyelids—
Lullaby, By-low!
List! The Terek o’er its pebbles
Blusters through the vale,
On its shores the little Khirgez
Whets his murdrous blade;
Yet thy father grey in battle—
Guards thee, child of woe,
Safely rest thee in thy cradle,
Lullaby, By-low!
Grievous times will sure befall thee,
Danger, slaughterous fire—
Thou shalt on a charger gallop,
Curbing at desire;
And a saddle girth all silken
Sadly I will sew,
Slumber now my wide-eyed darling,
Lullaby, By-low!
When I see thee, my own Being,
As a Cossack true,
Must I only convoy give thee—
“Mother dear, adieu!”
Nightly in the empty chamber
Blinding tears will flow,
Sleep my angel, sweetest dear one,
Lullaby, By-low!
Thy return I’ll wait lamenting
As the days go by,
Ardent for thee praying,—fearing
In the cards to spy.
I shall fancy thou wilt suffer,
As a stranger grow—
Sleep while yet thou nought regrettest,
Lullaby, By-low!
I will send a holy image
’Gainst the foe with thee,
To it kneeling, dearest Being,
Pray with piety!
Think of me in bloody battle,
Dearest child of woe,
Slumber soft within thy cradle,
Lullaby, By-low!
