Leaning Into The Afternoons
Leaning into the afternoons I cast my sad nets
towards your oceanic eyes.
There in the highest blaze my solitude lengthens and flames,
its arms turning like a drowning man's.
I send out red signals across your absent eyes
that smell like the sea or the beach by a lighthouse.
You keep only darkness, my distant female,
from your regard sometimes the coast of dread emerges.
Leaning into the afternoons I fling my sad nets
to that sea that is thrashed by your oceanic eyes.
The birds of night peck at the first stars
that flash like my soul when I love you.
The night gallops on its shadowy mare
shedding blue tassels over the land.

In The Early Afternoons Like Morning Glories
In the early afternoons like morning glories
I flourish under the sweetness of your sunny eyes
while in the blaze of your pretty smile my solitude
reaches out to you in a kind of invisible embrace
as if I am always flourishing in your blazing presence
drawing, continually drawing your radiance to me.
Sometimes there is only darkness when your soul
drops to the depths of a kind of sheer depression.
In the early afternoons like morning glories
I flourish under the sweetness of your sunny eyes
see a myriad of butterflies fluttering nearer
that visits me gently like the way I love you
and as the night sets in my life is ever folding,
closing and waiting for the sunshine of your touch.

Dixie Boy
Words and music by jim mcbride
Iwas raised in the shadow of an old cotton mill, back when believin was in
Style.
Smalltown heaven and a big-eyed boy made sweet music for a while.
My daddy worked hard down at the facotry.
Nights he went to g.i. school.
He didnt know nothin bout the silver spoon, but he lived by the golden
Rule.
Summer nights he was gone; me and mama stayed home, out on the front porch
Swing, wishin on the stars in the southern sky, and sometimes we used to
Sing.
We were leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms of love, livin all the
Simple joys this dixie boy is made of.
Got my real educationfrom the t.v. station and good ole boys down at the
Park.
The say hey, willie and those rock-a-billies played their way into my
Heart.
I remember the old folks sittin round talkin on laidback sunday
Afternoons.
They said them young folks sure got a hard road.
Oh, theyre growin up too soon.
Now I know they were right, and as I sit here tonight out on the front porch
Swing, the stars are shinin in my young boys eyes, just like they did for
Me;
We are leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms of love, livin all the
Simple joys this dixie boy is made of.

Sunday Afternoons
I sit at home
at my desk alone
as I used to do
on many sunday afternoons
when you came back to me,
your arms ached for me,
and your arms would close me in
though they smelled of other women.
I think of you
on Sunday afternoons.
Your sweet head would bow,
like a child somehow,
down to me -
and your hair and your eyes were wild.
We would embrace on the floor-
You see my back´s still sore.
You knew how easily I bruised,
It´s a soreness I would never lose.
I think of you
on Sunday afternoons.

Stars have eyes! !
Stars have eyes
Did anyone ever see the eyes on stars?
The eyes on stars full of soul
Look any longer they take control
Did anyone ever see the eyes on stars?
The eyes on stars behold the sight
Look any longer and glide free like a kite
Did anyone see the eyes on stars?
The eyes on stars oh what a smile
Look any longer they’ll lite your darkness for a mile
Did anyone see the eyes on stars?
The eyes on stars share the love
Look any longer you know it comes from above
Well now you’ve seen the eyes on stars
Shared the beautiful soul amazed by their wonder
Enchanted by the smile
And overwhelmed by the love
But look any longer you will see the pain
The pain on the eyes of stars
Never to be concealed by the rain
The eyes on stars cry
Never to be wiped dry
The eyes on stars cry
The eyes on stars cry blood tears
Permanently there reminding of fears
The eyes on stars cry
The eyes on stars cry
Stars eyes cry
Stars eyes cry
Stars eyes cry
They cry blood
Stars eyes cry
Stars eyes smile
Stars have eyes
Stars eyes.

Wynken, Blynken, and Nod
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe,--
Sailed on a river of crystal light
Into a sea of dew.
"Where are you going, and what do you wish?"
The old moon asked the three.
"We have come to fish for the herring-fish
That live in this beautiful sea;
Nets of silver and gold have we,"
Said Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.
The old moon laughed and sang a song,
As they rocked in the wooden shoe;
And the wind that sped them all night long
Ruffled the waves of dew;
The little stars were the herring-fish
That lived in the beautiful sea.
"Now cast your nets wherever you wish,--
Never afraid are we!"
So cried the stars to the fishermen three,
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.
All night long their nets they threw
To the stars in the twinkling foam,--
Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe,
Bringing the fishermen home:
'Twas all so pretty a sail, it seemed
As if it could not be;
And some folk thought 'twas a dream they'd dreamed
Of sailing that beautiful sea;
But I shall name you the fishermen three:
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.
Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes,
And Nod is a little head,
And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies
Is a wee one's trundle-bed;
So shut your eyes while Mother sings
Of wonderful sights that be,
And you shall see the beautiful things
As you rock in the misty sea
Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three:--
Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

A Tendency to Start Fires
Strange zoo
strange blaze
douse my head in flames
coming through got to get some
happiness is a bad son
forceps
kitchen tools
deconstruct your every move
feels better when you're here
guillotine just got here
back bend
back break
please yourself to make it rate
live it all at your own cost
so many just got lost
leaning for fire
leaning to fire
leaning to fire
here's tomorrow man
best of my ability
chasing what i can
here's tomorrow man
instinct
bare boned
light it up
take it home
you will be all things
you'll get what you bring
leaning to fire
leaning to fire
leaning to fire
here's tomorrow man
best of my ability
chasing watercans
here's tomorrow man
best of my civility
with our own tongue
here's tomorrow man

Ode to a Dressmaker's Dummy
Papier-mache body; blue-and-black cotton jersey cover. Metal stand. Instructions included.
-- Sears, Roebuck Catalogue
O my coy darling, still
You wear for me the scent
Of those long afternoons we spent,
The two of us together,
Safe in the attic from the jealous eyes
Of household spies
And the remote buffooneries of the weather;
So high,
Our sole remaining neighbor was the sky,
Which, often enough, at dusk,
Leaning its cloudy shoulders on the sill,
Used to regard us with a bored and cynical eye.
How like the terrified,
Shy figure of a bride
You stood there then, without your clothes,
Drawn up into
So classic and so strict a pose
Almost, it seemed, our little attic grew
Dark with the first charmed night of the honeymoon.
Or was it only some obscure
Shape of my mother's youth I saw in you,
There where the rude shadows of the afternoon
Crept up your ankles and you stood
Hiding your sex as best you could?--
Prim ghost the evening light shone through.

On Receiving A Book From
Oh, great-eyed contemplation whom I saw
Walk by the blue shores of the Northern Sea
Leaning upon a giant, who for thee
Seemed gentle, while black Night far west did gnaw
The jagged Eve, and, near, the flapping caw
Round Beatoun's shadowy Tower croaked down on me
More than the gloom of Night: ere thou couldst see
Beyond the inhuman ruin, or withdraw
Thy soul from eyes, which, as one tune can fill
Two voices, made the pathos of that soul
A double passion, standing dim and still
I saw and wondered. Is this book thy scroll,
Ah Sybil? Hast thou writ the unheard cry
I saw thee look that eve to Eartn and Sea and Sky?

The Arms Of Orion
orions arms are wide enough
2 hold us both together
although were worlds apart
Id cross the stars 4 u
In the heart of a sleepless moon
Ill be with u 4 ever
This is my destiny
till my life is through
Chorus:
The arms of orion thats where I wanna be
Since uve been gone
Ive been searching 4 a lover
In the sea of tranquility
Im drowning without u here, my dear
when I am lost and feeling alone
i just look to heaven
i find my comfort there
god only knows where u are 2 night
God only knows where u are 2 night
Maybe time will tell me
till then Ill close my eyes and say a prayer 4 u
(Ill say a prayer 4 u 2)
Chorus
Orions heart is bright enough
2 shine on both of us
The constellations never fail
2 light the way 4 love
orions arms are wide enough
2 hold us both together
Although were worlds apart
(Id cross the stars 4 u)
Id cross the stars 4 u
Chorus
The arms of orion thats where I wanna be
Since uve been gone Ive been drowning (lost)
In the sea of tranquility (lonely)
Drowning without u here my dear (baby)
the arms of orion
thats where I wanna be
thats where I wanna be (the arms of orion)
thats where I wanna be (the arms of orion)
since uve been gone, babe
Since uve been gone
Ive been drowning, (drowning), drowning
Drowning without your love
The arms of orion (arms of orion)

In My Sky At Twilight
In my sky at twilight you are like a cloud
and your form and colour are the way I love them.
You are mine, mine, woman with sweet lips
and in your life my infinite dreams live.
The lamp of my soul dyes your feet,
the sour wine is sweeter on your lips,
oh reaper of my evening song,
how solitary dreams believe you to be mine!
You are mine, mine, I go shouting it to the afternoon's
wind, and the wind hauls on my widowed voice.
Huntress of the depth of my eyes, your plunder
stills your nocturnal regard as though it were water.
You are taken in the net of my music, my love,
and my nets of music are wide as the sky.
My soul is born on the shore of your eyes of mourning.
In your eyes of mourning the land of dreams begin.

Love Me Now
Yesterday came back my solitude
Which through the night to brings me our days
Where the warm sea and he smiles,
Happy evening with blue stars,
Cool rain and kindly love again.
Love me now, love me now,
This is beautiful night to remember
Love me now, love me now,
This is where our romantic september
And two lonely people in the dance,
And the birds with this autumn's romance
Love me now, love me now,
Lover friend...
Eyes to eyes and hand to hand.
And somebody takes me by the hand
In old mirror I see amusing face,
But you can tell me once more
When comes memory to the door,
I regret, what part with love so sad.
Love me now, love me now,
This is beautiful night to remember
Love me now, love me now,
This is where our romantic september
And two lonely people in the dance,
And the birds with this autumn's romance
Love me now, love me now,
Lover friend...
Eyes to eyes and hand to hand.

Stars define
I recall trees foliage above
a sky was, 'n' distant stars;
the bitter wind and iron bars,
to keep us locked from love.
Lone echoes from night birds,
to cry in vastness and beset,
my pride's error - eyes wet,
hopes left out, and our words.
wishes that absconded young,
in prime times - of eighteen,
sepia tones, trees evergreen,
in foliage of dark sky among.
Abstinent solitude of then
allows love memories hereby
amidst winds that tear decry,
and crowns solitude to begin;
Stars that know only to shine
in worlds acclaim only of pain
there is no life in merit's gain
as lone stars darkness define.

Blaze Of Love
We are running out of time
Weve got one foot on the rock, and one foot over the line
This love, this loves not turning back
Well I dont know about you, but me Im following that
Late at night, watching you sleep, and I know inside, Im over the edge
Chorus:
Im goin down, down, down, in a blaze of love, in a blaze of love
Im goin down, down, down, in a blaze of love, in a blaze of love
Oh you, you can run away
You can shatter my world, scatter my dreams all over the place
But i, Ive grown to love these chains
You can tear em apart but I dont wanna escape
I close my eyes, picture your smile and I know inside, Im over the edge
Im goin down, down, down, in a blaze of love, in a blaze of love
Im goin down, down, down, in a blaze of love, blaze of love
Blaze of love
Blaze of love
(guitar solo)
Oh, Im over the edge...in a blaze of love
(down, down, down, blaze of love) blaze of love
(down, down, down) in a blaze of love, in a blaze of love
Im goin down, down, down, down, down, down
In a blaze of love (blaze of love)
Down, down, down, in a blaze of love...

The Eyes Beyond
we have eyes
besides our eyes
that we see on us
the eyes that come alive
in the depth of the quiet night
when we know someone is
looking over us just nearby,
his focus ruffles that calmness
the ripple in the calm lake
our eyes meeting with
those invisible eyes
that send vibrations
through our soul
a synergy of mental energies
the eyes from beyond
that meet the eyes of my mind
could he be the almighty?
or the long lost loved ones?
i yearn for more sensors
to get closer to the owner
of those eyes that watch over
me in the middle of the night
those unseen eyes from beyond

By Morning Twilight
Night, like a dying mother,
Eyes her young offspring, Day.
The birds are dreamily piping.
And O, my love, my darling!
The night is life ebb'd away:
Away beyond our reach!
A sea that has cast us pale on the beach;
Weeds with the weeds and the pebbles
That hear the lone tamarisk rooted in sand
Sway
With the song of the sea to the land.

Gonna Love Ya
(r. carnes, s. drake)
Chorus:
Gonna love ya till the cows come home
Gonna love ya baby all night long
Gonna love ya lordy me oh my
Gonna love ya till the day i die
Take your time morning is far away
And the moon's leaning into the night
So we won't be needing the light
So (repeat chorus)
Now you're mine
There's no chance to run away
While the stars are all turning to you
Tell you what i'm gonna do
Oh(repeat chorus)
Tell me now
It's love that you're feeling
Fill my soul like you're filling my arms
Oh(repeat chorus x2)

To a very special girl
Making love
should come naturally,
should be something of passion,
filled with romance
and there should be stars in your eyes,
while they smoulder with lust,
a sweet kind of serenity gracing your pretty face
with a soft burning candle or two
and some soft music playing
but with you my love
I am like a survivor
from a sunken ship,
clutching at driftwood
while the storm
is still gathering in force
and your petite body entices me
leaving me swept out
on a new beach
with eyes clutched shut
after almost drowning
which I still have to explore
to map it in my mind,
to find all the secret spots
and while the night passes
far too quickly
you are torn from me
by time and circumstance
and I see your eyes
glittering big in the flare
of a cigarette
and your smell
and that of the cigarette
fills my head, my heart
while your skirt unnoticed by you,
hinge up a perfect leg
and the litheness
of your slender body
is etched against the night sky.

To the Stars
What beholds
In my sight
My lover in the night
That she may sleep
In inner peace
Atop a bed of fleece
And how cruel of me
To confess
Of her long purple dress
We gazed upon the night sky
All of who we may try
And as we met each other's eyes
With love, to the stars we shall rise
And what is
My temptation
To ignore my condemnation
And how
Can I stay sane
Within a field of shame
We gazed upon the night sky
All of who we may try
And as we met each other's eyes
With love, to the stars we shall rise
As you gaze
Fixed upon the stars
All of who you are
Is revealed
Unto me
And I couldn't see
So I confess
Nontheless
Like a small bird in nest
In her long purple dress
We gazed upon the night sky
All of who we may try
And as we met each other's eyes
With love, to the stars we shall rise
And if I
May so hear
An unpleasant
To awake
To the news
Of one gone I would not lose
To know the one
In the dress
Is nothing now but dead
Then how can I live
With this utter feeling of dread
And as I gaze upon the night sky
All of who I may try
And as I close my tired eyes
With love, to you I shall rise
