Adult

It’s a miracle what it takes to be thought as an adult
So many rules told to follow like young children in occults
Suffer heart wrenching pain and go hungry for assaults
Spend more time on money and stack happiness in vaults

The minute hand slowly sweeps life under the rug
In your youth anything could solved with just a shrug
But now you’re an adult, you must cut back on all the hugs
Put your efforts to the future and how you must taste to bugs

-You must cause many crises and never be at fault
And when you’re all alone then you’re truly an adult
If nothing else prospers from the wrinkles and the frowns
-Take comfort in knowing your insurance bill goes down

Your smile must be smug when you’re laughing in the group
Keep the sarcasm sharp like the gossip in the coop
Look down on everyone you find sitting on a stoop
You’re not being rude, it’s just what adults do

Go back on your word and earn their love through fear
Only think about your peers only once during the year
You’re an adult now and have to budget for your tears
Don shades and a handshake, make them wish you were here

Baby vs Adult

Baby is dumb
Adult has wisdom

Babies are small and crawl
Adults are tall and fall

Baby demands
Adult commands

Baby yearns to walk
Adult learns to work

Baby weeps
Adult sleeps

You carry a baby
You marry an adult

Baby chokes
Adult smokes

Baby stays at home to play
Adult brings home the pay

Baby cries
Adult sighs

Baby spikes milk
Adults like silk

And I saved this for the last
Baby at birth
Adult at death
Baby vs Adult becomes a thing of the past

Youthful Fool

With youth comes happiness, or so they say.
Yet happiness is absent for those
who have been pushing youth away.

My ideals, beliefs and opinions I have built never borrowed or bought
dismissed with a wave of an adults hand
for at my age, I am not entitled to such thoughts.

For 16 years I have been under thumb, gotten my fill
yet now I'm still too young yet I fear
that if I have not learned by now, I never will.

I am force fed responsibility yet deprived of basic human rights
even conclusions of myself I am too young to draw
for even with 2 open eyes, I am blind in sight.

Sometimes I hate to think the wicked of the grown
that years of life is somehow equal to experience
as if days of life could atone.

I am entrusted with some of the largest adult behavior
I face graduation, jobs and the ability to drive
yet somehow the elders are still slavers and not saviors.

But I will hold back, stay to the side.
I will seal my lips and not threaten you
since I know well, my words could keep a 'grown adult' tongue tied.

Livin' In A World

Children are called the future of an adult world
They are born with spirits so innocent
Til we teach them how to hate
Add to the world's confusion
We teach our kids rules
That we don't adhere to ourselves
Right or wrong
What example can they take
The people we learn from
Forge the ideas we become
Living in a world they didn't make
Living in a world that's filled with hate
Living in a world where grown-ups break the rules
Living in a world they didn't make
Paying for a lot of adult mistakes
How much of this madness can they take
Our children
Children grow to become our young adults
Problems of the world
They must learn how to confront
Doing drugs and joining gangs to rebel
Colors show they belong
To the social override
Cause they're living in a space
They feel out of place
Living in a world they didn't make
Living in a world that's filled with hate
Living in a world where grown-ups break the rules
Living in a world they didn't make
Paying for a lot of adult mistakes
How much of this madness can they take
Our children

Be a child-parent-adult

To the child, it is a day.
To the parent, it is a night.
To the adult both are inclusive.

The child lives in fantasy.
The parent lives in fallacy.
It is the adult that lives,
Where he is put, in ecstasy.

The child admires things.
The parent criticizes them.
The adult realizes them.

The child appreciates.
The parent deprecates.
The adult rationalizes.

The poet is the child in man.
The priest is the parent in man.
The logician is the adult in man.

Live a child to be youthful.
Live a parent to be awesome.
Live an adult to be credible.

Youth Youth Youth

Youth youth youth
Youth youth youth
Never wanna be an adult
Always wanna be in revolt
Youth youth youth

Don't wanna spend my life saving up for things
Don't wanna have what a steady job brings
I don't want security
Don't want responsibility
Don't wanna stay at home not making any noise
I've always got to be out
I've always got to have a choice
I don't want security
Don't want responsibility
Youth youth youth

I don't want no uniform
I don't want no book of rules

Restricted

when i was a kid
they say it is restricted
for adults only

when i became an adult
they say
i must become a child

with all these
unexpected twists and turns
of my life
when i have become neither
a child
or an adult
a man or a woman at an age
where i can not really do
what i want

i say, i am so restricted
and it does not really matter

i am too old to think
i am too old to live

i am they say too young to die
and then when i said
i doubted everything

they tell me, and i like it really
that i am a wise man

of course, i do not understand
but as i am telling you
i like
from then on, just being
restricted

I am o.k. you are o.k.

‘I lost my pen’
‘Don’t worry, I shall get you one’
A child like question
And an expected parental reply.
I am o.k., you are o.k.

‘I lost my pen’
‘I know you will do only that’
Parent reply belied the question.
I am o.k. You are not o.k.

‘I lost my pen’
‘You can borrow from me’
A child-like question.
An adult like answer.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘Is the bus late?
‘Which bus comes in time?
An adult seeking an adult
But received a parent reply.
I am o.k. You are not.

‘Is the bus late? ’
‘Yes, heard only ten minutes’
Both responded as adults.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘Let us play hide and seek’
‘Yes, let me hide first’
A child sought from a child
And received it.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘Let us play hide and seek’
‘No, this is not the time’
The reply is parental
And belied the question.
I am o.k. You are not.

‘Let us play hide and seek’
‘Yes. Then we should read’
A child and an adult reaction
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘You should not smoke’
‘Yes. I shall cut it’
A parental question.
An adult reply.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘You should not smoke’
‘First, you cut your chewing’
A parental question
Seeking a child answer
But was belied.
I am o.k. You are not.

‘She should be taught a lesson’
‘ Yes, otherwise she will worsen’
A parent seeking a parent and got.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

‘I love you.’
‘I can’t forget you.’
Both are adult,
Expecting and receiving
As adults. I and you are o.k.

‘I love you’
‘Shh.. Others may watch”
A child’s reply to a child
Both are o.k.

‘I love you’
‘Bitch! Go to hell; I’ll report’
A parental reply, instead.
I am o.k. You are not.

‘I love you.’
‘I think you misunderstood.’
Both behaved as adults.
I am o.k. You are o.k.

You be the way you are expected.
You are then o.k. to others.
When others fail to be the way
You expected, you reason for it.
Others will be o.k. to you.
Then where is the individuality?

Adult Realities

the tragedy
of many adults
lies in the killing
off of too many
childhood stages...

the tragedy
of many adults
is that they
have forgotten
the wonder...

belief and faith
of childhood
possibilities...

adult reality
should also
blend realism,
faith, hope
and acceptance...

when necessary,
and the will
to strive
to make
a better world...

adult reality
should also
never forsake
wonder
enlightenment...

wisdom
regener ation
written into...

contemplation
of miraculous
divine creation...

A Boy Forever

In every man there lives a boy
That adult thoughts cannot destroy,
It doesn't matter what you do
That boy will live in spite of you!

You think your adult mind is clever
But the boy in you will never ever
Submit to all your serious ways,
He thinks you're going through a phase.

He knows one day you will admit
Your wisdom was a little bit
Mistaken, and though he's just a boy
There's so much more you can enjoy.

This boy is innocent and young
And there is laughter on his tongue,
You've been too serious by far
So hurry to the nearest bar.

You really need to have a drink,
Act as you FEEL, not how you THINK!
Take off your clothes! Let down your hair!
And say goodbye to grim despair!

It's time you showed some gratitude
And lost your 'grown-up' attitude,
You'll only ever find the 'Truth'
In the sacred 'Folly' of your youth! !

Gender determination

‘Is this a man or a woman? ’
asked a child the other,
pointing to a nude picture.
‘How can I, no dress? ’
answered the other child.

‘Is this a male or a female? ’
asked an adult the other,
pointing to a clothed child.
‘How can I, it’s dressed.”
Answered the other adult.

Child decides by clothes.
Adult confirms without cloth

Adults Like Children

The cry of a child
Should be taken as mild
But that of an adult?
Is like overwriting a cult!

Hate that you would be adult by nature
In appearance and stature
Yet you hold up childlike culture
You feed us with folly like agriculture

Punching holes, here and there
Amongst your colleagues; peer-to-peer
You love pain with others so near
Without shame and/or fear

Grow up, not only your rear
Grow in manner without sneer

Face In The Mirror

Time passes by
And the years fade into the distance
I look into the mirror and see a young boy
Full of hope and potential
A few moments later I stare again at my reflection
And I see a young teenager

Enthusiastic and full of life
Tasting love for the first time
Preparing to step into adulthood
Ready to take on the responsibilities that adulthood brings
I stare again at the mirror
My past lives reflected back at me

I see a young adult
Taking his first steps in the world
Learning how to interact and build a future
Hoping to find a partner to share his life with
Again I look into the mirror
This time the adult is older

Just turned thirty
The stress lines are starting to appear
Hope has faded to cynicism
The relationships have all ended badly
A breakdown is just around the corner
As I look into the mirror

I see a sad young man on a mental ward
Trying to come to terms with the pressures of life
The figure looks lost and forlorn
Will he put the pieces back together again?
Another glance at the mirror
This time the figure is nearly forty
There is a distant look in his eyes

Dreaming of what might have been
There is an attitude of acceptance and resignation
Life is a hard battle and sometimes you lose
Just living out the remaining years
Another glance at the mirror
This time the figure appears much older
The adult is now an old man of sixty-five

There is a look of fear in his eyes
His family have passed on and he is all alone
Only distant relatives remain and they were never close
The fear is of what lies ahead
Pain and suffering and death
As I look again in the mirror

I see a grave and a gravestone
Only two or three people at the funeral service
A sad end to a life
And as he gasped his last breath
Fear was still close at hand
What faced him after death?

Would his soul face damnation
For wasting the gift of life?
The gates of heaven would be slammed shut in his face
soul without a home too afraid to enter into hell
A soul endlessly searching for redemption but time has run out
A never-ending period of purgatory

A tormented soul without hope of redemption
As I look into the mirror I see my true self
Tears roll down my cheeks
I have seen my fate and it frightens me
Please guide me towards the path of salvation

Sonnet-Sexes Are Unequal

No man can do all things, a woman does;
No woman does the things, a man can do;
Unequal are the sexes, why make fuss?
Some things a woman does, a man can too!

And what an adult does, a child can't too;
What children do, an adult surely can't;
The things the elderly do, can youth do?
None can like how the priests do, prayers chant.

Each sex and age is meant to do some things;
The others can't outdo them in their field;
Yet, constant practice much perfection brings;
Vying alone can't improve each farm's yield!
Let’s strive to do better, the things we ought;
Never degrade those for things they cannot.

If I Were To Listen To You

when i was a child
you want me to become an adult
so i may earn a living myself
and then you are relieved
of any responsibility
(or a burden shall i say?)

and then when i become a adult
you want me to become a child again
to cheer you up and help you remember
the happy times of innocence
those times when sins
and lapses are forgivable
to relieve you of your guilt
(or a scruple shall i say)

if i were to listen to you
what shall i become of myself?

i am glad we have become distant islands
and there shall be no bridge possible
no sail no mail no tail

Adult Education

Its afternoon in the homeroom and theyre about to let you go.
And the locker slam on the plan you had tonight.
Youve been messing around with a boyfriend maybe better left alone.
Theres a wise guy that you know could put you right.
In the lot the boy thats idling by doesnt rev your heart.
Cause its only lonely spots he shares with you.
And the long halls and the gray walls are gonna split apart.
Believe it or not theres life after high school.
The student bodys got a bad reputation.
What they need is adult education.
Back to school its a bad situation.
But what you want is an adult education.
The teacher dont know about how to deal with the student body.
And the underclassmen are flashing hot and cool.
All your girlfriends care about the watch you wear and theyre talkin about it.
Believe it or not theres life after high school.
Theyre calling it a preparation.
Youre waiting for a separation.
Youre nothing but another odd number,
Memories that you wont remember.
So you got a little education.
And a lot of dedication.
But you want a little night school.
Maybe some of it will rub off on you.
The boys are busy in the mirrors.
Trying to imitate their heroes.
You make it with a false surrender.
More memories you wont remember.
The senior with the junior misss
I wonder what the junior wishes.
That she could graduate to adult.
That she could graduate to adult kisses.

Children

Wonder, children wonder, but it seems that from an early age it is knocked out of them. Conformity overrides possibilities and even reality slowly starts to ascend in their mind as they are processed through the systems, in fact conformity becomes reality. No wonder that wonder slowly and then completely looses its place. Children's freedom to see new possibilities, to invent knew worlds, knew universes is increasingly viewed with suspicion as they age. Even more devastating to the processes of wonder, is the self righteous way we as adults invalidate children's seemingly preternatural ability to know where adults are coming from, to even punish children because they see and say that the emperor has no clothes on. Their natural ability to know others emotional states and to sense when adults are imposing their darkness upon them and others is far superior to our own in many or most ways; until we force them to see through are own adult processed perception. We would be wise to learn from them instead of trying to control them. The experience should be two ways. This is the best way to keep wonder alive while teaching children to understand them self and the world around them. This takes courage for us adults.

As we know, children do not know their place, they are adept at seeing through adult pretenses, masks, false identities, roles, games, hypocrisy, we are so busy shoving our own way of processing the world down their throats that we forget to wonder with them, to be with them. We become fearful of seeing things through their eyes, through the eyes of the child we once were. Darwin, Einstein, both were precocious, slow very slow in their maturity and unable and unwilling to conform, they such as so many other had a prolonged childhood, and a lasting child like way about them, the wondered.

An adult is still a child

A child imitates its mother with air.
An adult imitates models to seem fair.
A child imagines a child in a doll
And enjoys tending it with fantasy.

A child fears and pretends ignorance.
An adult dreads and pretends innocence.
Though old, still a child, I amuse myself
Though wise, still a child, I fool myself.
