The Longest Dream

It is always the same I take the bus in the morning
but I never get home, can’t tell the driver where to
stop as I have forgotten the name of my valley

I see it clearly when I close my eyes, a small cabin
in the forest’s clearing. My dog is there waiting
and she has waited long.

She hears the sound of a bus nearing the clearing,
but then it changes direction and the sound of its
diesel engine fades slowly away.

She goes back to sleep her patience is endless
she knows she’s not forsaken. I will return to her
when remembering where I live.

Of My Father's Doing

Why is it...
Your reality fades.
And mine is clearing?
I am feeling more peaceful within.
You seem to welcome a disarray,
Appearing everyday to be getting dim.
Have we chosen this shifting of wits?
There is no explanation,
For this to happen as it is.
Not Like this!

Splitting us is our way of life!
On one side of it is darkness...
And on the other appears more light.
Coming to correct that which was wrong.
Yet through blight...
Haven't we come together to sing songs?

Why is it...
Your reality fades.
And mine is clearing?
Are we nearing the beginning,
Of an ending that transcends?
And which one of us then...
Will find more or less 'anything' to defend?
You with your weapons?
Or me,
Who prefers peace to release,
A humanity wishing goodwill to increase?

This process seems to be...
Of My Father's doing!
And what He wishes to see unfold!
Since there is no obvious outcome to behold!
Without fights of conflict to settle what is right!
Shouldn't we be holding each other close?
Knowing whatever happens,
We love each other most!
My Father is the 'Host' of this reality!
Who knows what jokes He has!

Uncle Pat

I sent off this morning
Down the road along the river
Which I take but once a year
My walk will take me by the shore
Then inland for a mile or more
From the cold sea spray

A small wood stands upon the hill
An old house near it lies in ruins
Forgotten long ago
And here in a clearing

Valley Of Sound

Move me
Dont try
Let the music reach me tonight
Push me over into something new
Ive been riding all day on a bus
Just to listen to you
I love, I love, I love I love the look
In your trespassed eyes
I love, I love, I love I love the way
You can make me cry
Sink me into stirred-up sea
Something I can drown in
Only you can do this to me
I love, I love, I love I love the look
In your trespassed eyes
I love, I love, I love I love the way
You can make me cry
Fill me up
And drop me down, yeah
Now Im alive in the valley of sound
In the valley of sound
In the valley of sound, yeah
In the valley of sound
I love, I love, I love I love the look
In your trespassed eyes, yeah
I love, I love, I love I love the way
You can make me cry
Yeah yeah, in the valley of sound
Hmm, the valley of sound, yeah yeah yeah
Valley, valley, you can,
The valley of sound
Yeah.

Ambrosial Scents

Ambrosial scents,
I begin to sense.
Perfume of the gods...
Enticing with temptation.

And as I walk along,
Alone in the soothness of the forest.
This fragrance becomes so strong.
I am feeling here is where I belong.

And I know I approach...
A clearing that encroaches upon my mind.
A clearing that finds me undoubtedly,
Accepting with a focus...
That opens with a welcoming of this invitation.

In my eyes you see the pain
With each lie I take the blame
With each sigh I slowly fall away
You are there when I need you
You sew me up when I bleed through
The endless cloth of lies surrounding me
Everything that I am you have given me
The lessons that Ive learned are bringing me home
Its everything that I need
Its all the truth that I believe
Right where I need to be
Just bring me home
I hide in darkness blind to sense
Chasing a dream with false pretense
Help me find the fracture in this dark sky
Everything that I believe is slowly overtaking me
Im just trying to find my way back home
Endless days are haunting me
Open eyes and I cant sleep
I need this now rescue me
Just bring me home
You cant bring me down
cause Im going home
Its everything that I need
Its all the truth that I believe
Right where I need to be
Just bring me home
Endless days are haunting me
Open eyes and I cant sleep
I need this now rescue me
Just bring me home

A Terrible Night

In the sweetest moment
of the night,
when sleep and dreams would
relieve and encompass
conscious thoughts.

I heard a sound.

I was awaken by the sound.
The sound came from the
door and it was lighter than
the tick of the clock.

I rested on the wall.
Hugged myself with a
preambulating heart
that has refuse comfort
because of the quiet sound.

The sound came again.
This time it was rapid.
Sinking me deep in fear,
enveloping me with goose pimple.

Suddenly, the sound stopped.
I stared at the door,
awaiting my fate.
For the night is still young and
deep within i long for dawn.

I waited.
There was nothing. Every
thing was quiet, too quiet.
Except sound from my beating
heart and tickling clock.

My eyes were wide open.
I focused on the door while
my thoughts move to and fro
my past and present deeds.
Oh Lord i cry, forgive me.

Time passed by.

The cock crow, immediately
i had a staggering courage.
I walked slowly to the door,
with immerse fear, i opened it.

With great sigh, i was relieved
though i had lost my sleep.

All this while, i have been
denied a good night by my
neighbour's dog, who was
found sleeping close to my door.

Last Door To Be Opened!

horses burst through the gate,
gallop across the field,
heads held high and nostrils flared.
while owls whisper in dark gowned trees,
and the wind tugs at the mountains.
moonlight sifting through the clouds,
dogs bark from a distant door.
and the grass lies wet with desire,
waiting for the steps of the lover!

i built a small fire in the clearing,
took off my clothes and danced
to the hidden beat.
mumbling words that had no form,
while the sleeping swallow smiled.
reared back with primal instinct,
let forth the howl of want.
while ants played tiny drums,
and thunder clashed in perfect time.

down to the banks of the river,
where water courted stone....
and plunged into the icy depths...
a baptism of the senses.
back to the fire with eyes ablaze...
i too waited with longing.
for the scent, the sound, and the feel of flesh,
for the last door to be opened!

Must i convince you again, if i must, i must

passion, it is the sound of
blankets and
pillows it is the song of
bedroom and
shower that make our hearts
join in the symphony of
the choir of passionate
melodies, remembering and
contemplating
on those satisfied nights
away from the usual crowd
of lonely people,
and so i ask where is the passion now?
what table what space have you
put it? what are those chairs
with no one sitting there?
those cold coffee cups
and burned cigars
a room filled with smoke clearing up
with time
i guess we have a role to play
in this domino of jejune
this long waiting
passion must be reborn in books
and monitors
those poems unwritten
because you have encircled your body
with flimsy arms
fingers melting into water
feet without soles
shoes with molds because of
non usage
dead nails that you have not pulled
or cut
sow the seeds again
on those grassy fertile lands
of forgotten desire
come with me, i am alone in my bed
we can talk and then
decide
what we can fill with those blank spaces
those closed doors
those broken stairs
our eyes may wink again
and be
sympathetic at last....

Return Sonata

Return the dust that is in my home to the streets at home
So that I can have a dust free home
Return the mice to the streets at home
So that I can have no mice in my home
Return some warmth to my home
So that my home can be warm also
Return peace to my home
So that I can live in peace at home
Return freedom to me
So that I can live free
Return the fresh air to my home
So that I can be able to breathe the fresh air
Return the sound of silence to my home
So that I can have some silence while I sleep

To a Sleeping Child

Lips, lips, open!
Up comes a little bird that lives inside
Up comes a little bird, and peeps, and out he flies.

All the day he sits inside, and sometimes he sings,
Up he comes, and out he goes at night to spread his wings.

Little bird, little bird, whither will you go?
Round about the world, while nobody can know.

Little bird, little bird, whither do you flee?
Far away around the world, while nobody can see.

Little bird, little bird, how long will you roam?
All round the world and around again home;

Round the round world, and back through the air,
When the morning comes, the little bird is there.

Back comes the little bird and looks and in he flies,
Up wakes the little boy, and opens both his eyes.

Sleep, sleep, little boy, little bird’s away,
Little bird will come again, by the peep of day;

Sleep, little boy, the little bird must go
Round about the world, while nobody can know.
Sleep, sleep sound, little bird goes round,
Round and round he goes; sleep, sleep sound.

Epilogue

Part 1

a '69 Chevy truck,
making its way slowly
up the old logging road,
centipede crawl, the scent
of the pines...
to a small clearing,
where we set up camp.
pitched the tent,
gathered wood for the fire.

enough daylight left,
we began the climb,
up the steep grade
to the top...
the cry of the bobcat,
startles...
then laughter, and we
moved on up.

an old rattlesnake sunning,
careful, go 'round.
we stood on the face of rock,
looking down through the gorge.
the air pure and heady,
the silence overwhelmed.
two hawks gliding down
beneath us.

for a moment then,
timeless...
i'd almost forgotten,
till a few drops of rain
on this morning's windshield,
brought it all back!

An Old Man Should Have Patience

AN OLD MAN SHOULD HAVE PATIENCE

An old man should have patience
And walk slowly and stop to rest.

An old man should have patience
And when the pain stops
Take a few more small steps.

An old man should have patience:

Time has come and Time will go
And Time will be here
When he gets home.

The Little London Girl

IN my little Green House, quite content am I,
When the hot sun pours down from the sky;
For oh, I love the country–the beautiful country.
Who'd live in a London street when there's the country?

I live in a London street, then I long and long
To be the whole day the sweet Flowers among
Instead of tall chimney-pots up in the sky,
The joy of seeing Birds and Dragon Flies go by.

At home I lie in bed, and cannot go to sleep,
For the sound of cart-wheels upon the hard street.
But here my eyes close up to no sound of anything
Except it is to hear the nightingales sing.

And then I see the Chickens and the Geese go walking,
I hear the Pigs and the Ducks all talking.
And the Red and the Spotted Cows they stare at me,
As if they wondered whoever I could be.

I see the little Lambs out with their mothers–
Such pretty little white young sisters and brothers.
Oh, I'll stay in the country, and make a daisy chain,
And never go back to London again.

Rockville

Looking at your watch a third time waiting in the station for a bus
Going to a place that's far, so far away and if that's not enough
Going where nobody says hello, they don't talk to anybody they don't know
You'll wind up in some factory that's full time filth and nowhere left to go
Walk home to an empty house, sit around all by yourself
I know it might sound strange, but I believe
You'll be coming back before too long
Don't go back to Rockville
And waste another year
At night I drink myself to sleep and pretend
I don't care if you're not here with me
'Cause it's so much easier to handle
All my problems if I'm too far out to sea
But something better happen soon
Or it's gonna be too late to bring you back
It's not as though I really need you
If you were here I'd only bleed you
But everybody else in town only wants to bring you down and
That's not how it ought to be
I know it might sound strange, but I believe
You'll be coming back before too long

Home From The Forest

Oh the neon lights were flashin
And the icy wind did blow
The water seeped into his shoes
And the drizzle turned to snow
His eyes were red, his hopes were dead
And the wine was runnin low
And the old man came home
From the forest
His tears fell on the sidewalk
As he stumbled in the street
A dozen faces stopped to stare
But no one stopped to speak
For his castle was a hallway
And the bottle was his friend
And the old man stumbled in
From the forest
Up a dark and dingy staircase
The old man made his way
His ragged coat around him
As upon his cot he lay
And he wondered how it happened
That he ended up this way
Getting lost like a fool
In the forest
And as he lay there sleeping
A vision did appear
Upon his mantle shining
A face of one so dear
Who had loved him in the springtime
Of a long-forgotten year
When the wildflowers did bloom
In the forest
She touched his grizzled fingers
And she called him by his name
And then he heard the joyful sound
Of children at their games
In an old house on a hillside
In some forgotten town
Where the river runs down
From the forest
With a mighty roar the big jets soar
Above the canyon streets
And the con men con but life goes on
For the city never sleeps
And to an old forgotten soldier
The dawn will come no more
For the old man has come home
From the forest

Voice Of America

I heard you on the radio
Some other time
From some forgotten studio
Way down the line
So long, so long Ive waited now
To hear you again
That song, that song will still remain
Become an old friend
And now, the tears are in my eyes
The sound you cant disguise
The truth comes back from lies
And all I want to hear
Voice of america, ooh, america
Voice of america, ooh, america
And then you came in stereo
Calling to me
And so I watch the videos
Across the t.v.
That sound, still ringing in my ears
From a decade ago
Around, around my head, the sound from my radio
I thought, that after all these years
The tears, the growing fears
That I would never hear
Never again
Voice of america, ooh, america
Voice of america, ooh, america

Waking

WAKING

There are so many dreams no one ever realizes
We wake and try to understand where we are
What we have done in all the years seems folly
Nothing can justify this morning or the day to come
We have forgotten who we are and where we have been
The prayer that helps us and connects us back to God
Revives
We begin to live or try to begin to live
Our names are not known and our work uncelebrated
Our songs are not sung and our labors not blessed
We look out and up at the sky and feel light
We do not know how or why or in what way
But we understand that God has given mornings to begin again
We will take the first step and word and taste and sound
And all we feel and be will begin to revive
We will connect ourselves again with where we are
We will begin to work
And as the day slowly comes back to us we will come back to ourselves
Every day is a new beginning and a world G-d will make
We too are that world and that beginning
In all the many days of blessings and the years of this life
God has enabled us to begin again
This time now too is now different
And these words say we are here now for this morning
So long as this morning is in us.
