No Dreams
What would we do if we had no dreams?
No themes, no streams, no things to play
With; Darkness all and all around.
No colourful thoughts, no shining streams,
No happy hours, those bright and gay;
No listening to the cheerful sound.
Of flowers showing their natural themes,
Of water falling in to stay;
Towards nothingness, we are bound.
To lose these lively things; it seems
Is the thing to do in this young day;
In filth of veracity, we are drowned.
What would we do if we had no dreams?
No themes, no streams, no things to play
With; Darkness all and all around.

The White Island:or Place Of The Blest
In this world, the Isle of Dreams,
While we sit by sorrow's streams,
Tears and terrors are our themes,
Reciting:
But when once from hence we fly,
More and more approaching nigh
Unto young eternity,
Uniting
In that whiter Island, where
Things are evermore sincere:
Candour here, and lustre there,
Delighting:--
There no monstrous fancies shall
Out of hell an horror call,
To create, or cause at all
Affrighting.
There, in calm and cooling sleep,
We our eyes shall never steep,
But eternal watch shall keep,
Attending
Pleasures such as shall pursue
Me immortalized, and you;
And fresh joys, as never too
Have ending.

The Nonstop Revolving Ethics Of Methods
Your themes.
They seem to remain unchanged.
'And the nonstop revolving ethics of methods,
Have not?
My 'themes' have become for me,
Much easier to acknowledge...
Than to struggle with ideals,
Too offensive for those...
Believing them to be delusions.
At least my unchanging themes,
Do get immediate negative feedback.'

Medway Song
(Air: Carnaval de Venise)
LET Housman sing of Severn shore,
Of Thames let Arnold sing,
But we will sing no river more
Save this where crowbars ring.
Let others sing of Henley,
Of fashion and renown,
But we will sing the thirteen locks
That lead to Tonbridge town!
Then sing the Kentish river,
The Kentish fields and flowers,
We waste no dreams on other streams
Who call the Medway ours.
When on the level golden meads
The evening sunshine lies,
The little voles among the reeds
Look out with wondering eyes.
The patient anglers linger
The placid stream beside,
Where still with towering tarry prow
The stately barges glide.
Then sing the Kentish river,
The Kentish fields and flowers,
We waste no dreams on other streams
Who call the Medway ours.
On Medway banks the May droops white,
The wild rose blossoms fair,
O'er meadow-sweet and loosestrife bright,
For water nymphs to wear.
And mid the blowing rushes
Pan pipes a joyous song,
And woodland things peep from the shade
As soft we glide along.
Then sing the Kentish river,
The Kentish fields and flowers,
We waste no dreams on other streams
Who call the Medway ours.
You see no freight on Medway boats
Of fashions fine and rare,
But happy men in shabby coats,
And girls with wind-kissed hair.
The world's a pain forgotten,
And very far away,
The stream that flows, the boat that goes--
These are our world to-day.
Then sing the Kentish river,
The Kentish fields and flowers,
We waste no dreams on other streams
Who call the Medway ours.

Deserted Cities Of The Heart
By jack bruce and pete brown
Upon this street where time has died.
The golden treat you never tried.
In times of old, in days gone by.
If I could catch your dancing eye.
It was on the way,
On the road to dreams, yeah.
Now my hearts drowned in no love streams, yeah.
The street is cold, its trees are gone.
The storys told the dark has won.
Once we set sail to catch a star.
We had to fail, it was too far.
Chorus
I felt the wind shout like a drum.
You said, my friend, loves end has come.
It couldnt last, had to stop.
You drained it all to the last drop.
Chorus
Now my hearts drowned in no love streams, yeah.
On this dark street the sun is black.
The winter life is coming back.
On this dark street its cold inside.
Theres no retreat from time thats died.
It was on the way,
On the road to dreams, yeah.
Now my hearts drowned in no love streams, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Now my hearts drowned in no love streams, yeah.
Now my hearts drowned in no love.

Of All Life's States Supreme
Each days spent's play in trances to teach all nightly dreams
no light know where fair glances are absent, rarest gleams
unite free-flights bright streams, reverse sad circumstances,
enchanting spell Life's schemes, link heart to heart. True chance is
response to Love's advances in harmony which beams
from twinned souls sparked advances from Earth to airy streams.
As strawberries and cream, Time's whipped, unzipped romance is
personnified dream themes luck plucks, unending dances.
Affection's fairest stance is love's joyous damascene,
sublime state which perchance is of all life's states supreme.
Eyes glued to bright eyes team here as happiness enhances
surprise cued through shared theme that distance, Time, surpasses.
Romance sheds frontiers, years, tears, hope scope finds
translates to seventh heaven's sublime signs.

Gratification
We occasionally get a few gleams of encouragement while struggling through the trials
of life.A number of years ago a person employed by the Dominion Government to give
sketches of the various towns in Canada, and especially to describe the power of the
various streams and the number of streams in each town or neighborhood ; he came to us,
as we had written rhymes on the rivers and creeks. Years afterwards we were informed by
persons who came from Britain, as the book was to encourage emigration, that my name was
the only one they had ever heard of in Ingersoll until they came here. The celebrated
Spaulding, manufacturer and inventor of prepared glue, was in town a few days ago. He
expressed to a gentleman in town that he was gratified with a conversation he had with
me on poetic themes. As there is no natural affinity or adhesion binding glue to poetry,
we might say we discovered that the inventor possessed a refined and cultivated mind
and a fund of American humor. An old lady expressed herself very warmly after reading my
Canadian romance, that it was a true history of herself and husband ; that 35 years ago
they were not worth a dollar, and now they had 500 acres paid for of good land. The
reason why we alluded to this is:-Some have no faith that there is anything worthy of
commemorating in their own country, but consider worthy themes for either song or story
are three thousand miles across the Atlantic.

Faith streams
Faith streams
on winged wonders-
these are angels of sunbeams
transmuting the dark extremes
to cheerful themes.
Faith flows
in the cauldron
of hope within
by which the cage of dismay, it blows
and the virus of failure, it outgrows.
Faith nurtures
itself
by feeding on the vitamins
of the inner cloisters,
with which the emotional void it conquers.

The Land of Nod
From breakfast on through all the day
At home among my friends I stay,
But every night I go abroad
Afar into the land of Nod.
All by myself I have to go,
With none to tell me what to do --
All alone beside the streams
And up the mountain-sides of dreams.
The strangest things are there for me,
Both things to eat and things to see,
And many frightening sights abroad
Till morning in the land of Nod.
Try as I like to find the way,
I never can get back by day,
Nor can remember plain and clear
The curious music that I hear.

The Mystic Blue
Out of the darkness, fretted sometimes in its sleeping,
Jets of sparks in fountains of blue come leaping
To sight, revealing a secret, numberless secrets keeping.
Sometimes the darkness trapped within a wheel
Runs into speed like a dream, the blue of the steel
Showing the rocking darkness now a-reel.
And out of the invisible, streams of bright blue drops
Rain from the showery heavens, and bright blue crops
Surge from the under-dark to their ladder-tops.
And all the manifold blue and joyous eyes,
The rainbow arching over in the skies,
New sparks of wonder opening in surprise.
All these pure things come foam and spray of the sea
Of Darkness abundant, which shaken mysteriously,
Breaks into dazzle of living, as dolphins that leap from the sea
Of midnight shake it to fire, so the secret of death we see.

Crowns
Yes, this is the land where
Dusk delays long hours late
And the never still air
Stirs our hair as we wait.
We have been here since noon
Suspended in flowers
In this moment attune
Adrift in love that's ours.
And we find in the night,
In the darkness of streams,
We find the stars are white
Crowns that cover our dreams.

Film scores are often based on short themes, and it helps if you've got some way of developing these themes and making them sometimes last 4 minutes and sometimes last 40 seconds. One ends up doing it subconsciously.

My Song For You
When I write my song for you
I will sing of dreams
that sparkle with the light of love
in all its repeating themes.
One verse of looks from misty eyes
will linger in your ear.
Its words will stay within your heart
and let you know I'm near,
Nearer than my hands that play
my melody of love
will be the intensity of harmony
to take you way above
what you hear whenever you listen
that can take hold of your mind.
My song for you will always stay
and never will you find
a song so tender and so true
that will remind you of my sound.
And all the days that you hear it
you'll know that I'm around.

Themes
themes should be universal they say.
to talk of the cruellest month.
excellent.
cities, monuments, flowers.
irreproachable.
a painting of a boy falling out of
the sky, hung in a belgian gallery
or epic sung by a blind bard.
ideal.
bad poets being fortunate, no muse to be invoked.
poems sprout, wild weeds in walled garden.
broken heart tears betrayal
pain shame fear despair bewilderment.
these themes can be arranged according to size
shape and colour in the bowl of the day.
Shelley
England had triplets at a birth,
Coleridge, Southy and Wordsworth,
And these three were widely famed,
And the 'Lake Poets' they were named.
With joy they did pursue their themes,
'Mong England's lakes, and hills and streams;
From there with gladness they could view
The distant Scottish mountains blue.

I'd already made the decision before I'd even read it-just because it was John Sayles. Then when I read it, the themes were actually themes that have been a big part of my life.

Dreams
Into the dreamland slowly I creep
Into the land I vist in my sleep
What lies ahead I can't be sure
Something sweet, something scary, something nice or maybe gore
It turns into a mystery I can't seem to solve
So many things it seems to involve
There seems to be things that arn't really real
Like flying pigs I mean what's the deal?
Dreams can be scary with all different things
With more freaky thoughts these sort of dreams bring
But they can be happy and cheer you up
But then you wake to reality and it's soon not enough
Dreams can hold what we might not know
They can tell us things things they can show
Dreams are our imagination going wild
But arn't we glad some made us smile

These Things
I have this smile to hide me
And I have this cross to bear
I have your picture that still haunts me like your memory
These things have I
I have these words to lie to me
These stupid songs to share
I have these countless hours to fill the void you left me
These things have I
For all those things I've done
Let you down I apologize
But sorry's hard somehow
Seems so strange it'd be so easy now
But I've got this faith to blind me
And I've got these dreams we shared
And I have the fear that dreams are all I'll have that's
left to me
These things all these things
These things have I
These things all these things
There things have I
