Two Decades and Two Years Of Marc Ferdinand

A fizzy tongue
jutted out
and in the pall of darkness
came a light,
a smoke,
a veil of white
you dragged like a devil
with pure intentions
and savage kills

Cradling hands
coated in brass
spinning like a compass
pointing North
and lashing violently
when pirouetted

Your mouth
ballasts a cigarette
and spews smoke,
blows bubbles,
and electric words
behind the crooked teeth
is a caged multitude

You slouched
keen eyes unwavering,
steadfast like beacons
and in this sloppiness
the scars and burns
from wounds and bruises
are the only vestiges
that raised your roof beams
strong enough to share
a pallid, generous shade

Yonder the stench of licorice
or stains of nicotine
are sober constitutions
rivaling the weather
and time's conundrums -

A father,
A beau,
A comrade,
A wise man
outgrowing
the age of twenty-one.

Black Licorice

Whooo ... wheee!
You there, comin up the stair, the feelin is ice-blue cold.
Shake, its more than I can take, Im startin to lose control.
Watch out, whats that noise, theres somebody at the door.
It must be black licorice, she come back to make me cry some more.
Time, aint on my side, Im losin it more each day.
Licorice, licorice.
Shes got evil in her eyes, and catnip is her taste.
Licorice, licorice.
She wraps me up in her slender legs, her hot black skin to mine.
Licorice, licorice.
Ple ... ple ...please, dont touch me, oh, I know Im dead this time.
Oh, oh, yeah ... licorice, yeah, black licorice.
Licorice, licorice.
Licorice, yeah, black licorice.
Licorice, licorice.
Licorice, black licorice.
Licorice, licorice.
Licorice, yeah, black licorice.
Licorice.
Licorice.
Licorice.
Licorice.
Licorice, yeah, black licorice.
Licorice, licorice.
Licorice, yeah, black licorice.
Licorice, licorice.
Licorice, licorice, black licorice.
Licorice, licorice.
Licorice, woah, black licorice.

One Cigarette

No smoke without you, my fire.
After you left,
your cigarette glowed on in my ashtray
and sent up a long thread of such quiet grey
I smiled to wonder who would believe its signal
of so much love. One cigarette
in the non-smoker's tray.
As the last spire
trembles up, a sudden draught
blows it winding into my face.
Is it smell, is it taste?
You are here again, and I am drunk on your tobacco lips.
Out with the light.
Let the smoke lie back in the dark.
Till I hear the very ash
sigh down among the flowers of brass
I'll breathe, and long past midnight, your last kiss.

When I Am Alone

now i learned
what they want me to understand
when i am alone
at least i need someone to talk to
someone who listens
and when i am as silent as cigarette stick
lighted
at least something knows
where the smoke may go

i smoke now
but not because i like it
it is a necessity
the smoke at least talks to me
and the light in the cigarette
gives me the eye of the
cinder
a word of light
a comfort of flame
in the dark

Granny Used to Smoke

Granny used to smoke,
She had her special cigarette.
Granny used to smoke,
She had her special style to.
Granny used to smoke,
She used to send me to shop.
Granny used to smoke.

She used to smoke this way:
Putting the glowing side,
Inside her mouth cavity,
And hers is to release,
Trains of smoke!

Knew The Smoke (To Be A Prayer)

he said:
'i went four years
without a lover,
trying to do the right thing...
then one day i stood up,
packed my few belongings,
and walked off...
in search of...'

i watched him as he rolled
a cigarette, his gnarled hands
sure and steady...
stared at the light in his eyes,
and the doors...
only he knew what
was behind them.

bought him a cup of coffee,
and shook his hand,
no need for words...
wondered if i'd met Jesus,
or the devil,
or if i was looking
into a mirror!

each path, each call,
is different... each heart,
pretty much the same.
i watched him light his cigarette,
and knew the smoke
to be a prayer!

As If It Was A Crime

Your mother had given you
a few coins to buy sweets

and on the way you met Fay
and you said

do you want to come
and buy some sweets?

and she said
I haven't any money

and you said
you can share mine

if you tell me what you like
but she said

my father wouldn't like it
if I had sweets he says

they rot your teeth
but she walked to the shop with you

thinking silently to herself
and outside the shop

you said
are you sure?

she nodded and stood outside
while you went in

and bought sweets
when you came out

she was waiting there
her eyes gazing at you

her tongue running over
her lips

you showed her
what you'd bought

and her eyes widened
here take one

you said
your dad won't know

if you don't tell him
she hesitated

her fingers lingering
over the bag of sweets

but what if he sees me
or smells them

on my breath?
she said fear entering her eyes

her hands falling at her sides
you put out a hand

and touched hers
it's only a sweet

it's not as if
you're having a drag of a smoke

or sipping beer
she nodded and smiled a little

best not
she said

if he finds out
he'll get angry with me

for eating sweets and lying
and you remembered

the bruises you'd seen
on her arms and thighs

that time
and you sighed thinking

as if eating sweets
was a big deal or a crime.

Ode To Smoke

Ahhh you who do not exist,
come so that I may say goodbye to the melancholic smoke of mine,
the cigarette aches from too much smoke,

Only If….
If only you were smoke
I would have kissed you every moment,
you would have been more nearer to me than myself,
you, warm, milky, dense
passing through my mouth, vanishing in my chest…..

Kind glance at a sorrowful ash tray

The cigarette butts gather day by day
If it counts more than of his age
Like a mountain on the tray top.
I see in the darkness like a firefly
Cigarette moves here & there.
Where those circles of smoke
Gone to the sky?
My brother!
Don't burn yourself
And let the life burns.

Smoke The Sky

Smoke my hoochie
You say that Im the devil

Marco polo hailed it heaven
Socrates inhaled it too
Mr. president tell the truth
Youre the great exaggerators
Since 1932
Telling evils of the reefer
But all thru time weve
Smoked the sky, smoke the sky
Home grown version
Compliments the senses
Opens up the mind
Jfk sold us freedom
Or was it just a business toke
63 went up in smoke
He was the great seducer
Crawling from our tvs
Breathed into our future
And before he died he
Smoked the sky, smoke the sky
When its time well smoke the sky
Bc hailed it heaven
I inhaled it too

When its time well smoke the

No Smoking

My temper is quite volatile
When personal space is transgressed
My acerbic tongue can almost kill
With my words of anger addressed.

The air that I breath is sacred
And with all due respect please maintain
That although you may smoke, remember
To keep my air free from the stain.

If you must, then please go a distance
For the cigarette smoke makes me sick
I don't need any cancerous substance
To inhale in my air, that is tragic.

We all have rights that is true
Non-smokers need their good air
To one who smokes, this is what he must do
Smoke in one place and NOT everywhere.

No Tobacco Day

Shun…
The leaf that makes most men to smoke;
The smoke that’s puffed, poisoning the air;
What stains the teeth and gums, hair, nails, hair;
Substance abused from ancient times;
Shun…
What kills the young and old addicts;
The frond that causes cancers galore;
What is ingested, snuffed and smoked;
The first cash-crop that steals coffers.
Shun…
The dark that clouds the light of lives;
The joy short-lived that shortens life;
The poison that aborts the child;
The evil that bewitches most.
Shun…
The habit that one rarely quits.
The smoke that steals the air from lungs;
The weed that cuts the thread of life;
The vice that drives away virtues.

Winters Sun

Winters pall dims the vestiges of autumn gone,
lost the laughter and the sun, families fled
past the eyes of those past, replaced by barren sun.

Mundanity dulls the keenest edge, (re) casts
playact in imports stead, each actor caught in
winters pall, dims the vestiges of autumn gone.

In heady, early days, blushing glance was enough
to hold, then break, the rhythm of the dreary drum.
Past the eyes of those past, replaced by barren sun,

each generation caricatured, first by writers pen,
then realigned by victors gun; the awful chill of
winters pall dims the vestiges of autumn. Gone,

the comfort in a hug, entwined hands: now undone,
voices held on memories breadth, fade away into the
past. The eyes of those past, replaced by barren sun,

sightless, gaping - cast amongst the great undone, stories
raise them from the depths, before letting go into the
winters pall, dims the vestiges of autumn gone
past the eyes of those past - replaced by barren sun.

Just but her beautiful face

Im looking at a cherubic expression,
Your eyes like two beams of light,
Penetrating to the hearts of all men,
They watch and wonder upon you,
Such great light they have not seen
It is just but your beautiful face

Your nose, the great art upon thee,
Nostrils like the caves of glory,
Leading to the uttermost places,
Places where all men long to be,
Your hairy like the faire of fine lambs,
Great camfort like the mat of a King,
All in the great chambers of your beauty,
Your skin soft like the dove,
Pure and so flawless,
All men long to caress and rub,
They look and wonder upon thee,
Its just but your beautiful face

My love your lips are so tempting,
The patterns like the rainbow in snow,
The glow like the rays of dawn,
The rare perfection so perculiar,
All men see and wonder upon thee
Its just but your beauty my love

Your hair so strong yet soft,
Very dry yet wet,
Like the grass of a winter morning,
Its waves so undefined,
Moved up by the wind of September,
They wonder and ponder upon you,
Its just but your beauty my love

Your teeth are white as snow,
Yet tasty as the early cream,
Bold and strong like the granite,
Take a look at my girlfriend,
Her lips have killed many,
Her teeth buried moreover,
Her tongue so rare but excellent,
When she opens her mouth,
The breath like the aroma of vanillia,
Her words sensible like of the wise
She is beautiful and I testify,
Its just but her beautiful face

Between The Devil And Me

This world can take you by the hand
And tempt the soul of any man
But you can choose your path
There's two roads you can take
One way is right and one way is wrong
The flesh is weak, but love is strong
And she's all I see between the devil and me
The gates of hell swing open wide invitin' me to step inside
I'll be your friend, he calls again, I know it's him
The flames are spreadin' everywhere
But through the smoke I see her there
She's all I see between the devil and me
I hold her in my arms tonight
So safe and warm I close my eyes
And a cool breeze blows 'cross our bodies in the dark
Outside her reach is my concern
Somewhere I know a fire burns
And she's all I see between the devil and me
The gates of hell swing open wide invitin' me to step inside
I'll be your friend, he calls again, I know it's him
The flames are spreadin' everywhere
But through the smoke I see her there
She's all I see between the devil and me
The gates of hell swing open wide
Invitin' me to step inside
She's all I see between the devil and me

My dear cigarette

My dear cigarette
Now I shall have to
Depart from you
I have realized
Your company is not
Good for me
In the disguise
Of a friend
You are an enemy
To me
I candidly admit
When I was alone
You gave me company
When I was tense
You relaxed me
When I used to drink
You increased my
Pleasure
When I was young
With you, I felt modern
All said and done
You damaged my lungs
Your smoke causes
Irritation too many
Damages their health
As it damaged mine
Kills people before time
Your smoke is
No less than a fire
Which burns?
A person from inside
I do not want
Others to accept
Your gift of cancer
As I did
Now I bid
Farewell to you

9 Miles On A Dirty Futon

I spent nine miles with her.
in a cheap apartment.
Boxed wine and cheeses with exotic sounding names.
Eaten on a blanket on the floor as we had no table.
we had no couch,
we had no television.
But we had music.

At night we would lay on a futon matress
that layed on the floor.
The streetlight outside the bedroom window playing shadows across sections of her.
First her eyes were lit, the rest of her awash in shadows,
then,
when she turned,
her mouth was visible,
but her eyes were shadowed.
A breast, a thigh, her hair all illuminated
then darkened
according to her movments.

Sometimes she would lie on her back and light a cigarette.
Her whole face would light with the flash of the lighter,
like hand held lightining,
then darken again.
We would talk for hours on that futon,
I don't remember what was said...
I remember her in pieces of light and shadow.

When she smoked the light would turn the smoke in to a slow
languid serpent
escaping from her body through her mouth and nose.
I have never seen anyone smoke like that before or since.
Her face half lit by the streetlight.

She would speak and the words would drift out of her
entwined with the smoke.
She smoked like Garbo.
slow and seductive.

9 years with her and all my memories are of shadows, soft sodium streetlights, and orange cigarette glow.

9 years with her and all I remember are the lights and shadows
across her body.
On that futon matress
on the floor.

And the eternal cry of filters say
'Life is a struggle? '

We fit into each other

We fit into each other
and it is pure passion,
perfect like light on glass
with bodies, hands
and feelings touching deeper.

There’s JC Le Roux champagne in a glass
and the red sparkles like fire
burning deep in your eyes
while you shake your head
spreading your hair over your shoulders.

Later you lipstick
is on the edge of a glass,
while I pour some more champagne for you
and the smoke of your cigarette
spirals up into the air

and I see your perfect body
before you draw me nearer to you
and I feel your soft skin
with nipples pointing into my chest
with your breath soft against my cheek.

In your sleep your turn against me,
lying with an arm stretched over my body
and it’s as if your lips are muttering words
while your face looks pure and chaste
like that of a small girl.

The next day I find
a brown hair-clip in my bed,
on the pillow there’s a mark of red lipstick
and my sheets smell of you.

Smoke And Mirrors

When I was a boy all the books I read
I followed like a blind man
To heed the words my father said
Those golden summers fade into night, words become a dream
The echoes of my childhood and where the path is winding
May God bless you, keep you safe from all harm
I stand by you always
Time and motion hands touch
Lips find a way to heaven on high
Watch the children play, the child becomes a man
And all the tangled webs we weave
You swear it as we live and breath
We stay together death until you part
Winner takes the prize
The futures at your finger tips, right before your eyes
No more sorrow (smoke and mirrors)
No more nights with no end
(I really learned a lot, smoke and mirrors)
I see my tomorrows
And nothing from nothing
And ashes to ashes they say
All the more that you reach out
The more that it runs away
(Smoke and mirrors)
No more goodbyes
(Thats all I ever got, smoke and mirrors)
No lies, you find your way there
(She show me what shes got, smoke and mirrors)
Heaven on high
May god bless you keep you safe from all harm
I stand by you always
Time and motion
(smoke and mirrors)
Hands touch, lips find a way to
(Thats all I ever got, smoke and mirrors)
Heaven on high
No more sorrow
(I really learned a lot, smoke and mirrors)
No more nights with no end
(She show me what shes got, smoke and mirrors)
I rise or I fall
no more goodbyes
(She really makes me hot, smoke and mirrors)

Heaven on high
