I stopped reading books and started obituaries!
It's really sad and interesting too
Reading the obituaries.
Though I am a stranger to this soil
I feel they are like my relatives.
So & So born and dead on this particular day
And she had a deep love for animals
And for fine arts.
She has given some names of her best friends.
After a thorough check I found my name was not there
And I had a sad feeling still I am an alien
To the old aged people.
May you rest in peace Madam!
And I read you again in the next year Memorial

Read the newspapers
from the back to the front, instead
and joy can catch you unawares
obituaries: all too often you just wish
you could have known them when
they were alive and glorious..
maybe there's a place for a special
service of celebration, memorial, honour
for all those who read their obituary
and wished they'd known them..so
get together in their honour in the hope
that something happens..
here's Murray Rogers, died at 89,
went from Britain to India to Jerusalem
to Hong Kong to the Mohawks of Ontario
to Oxford... and described as
'a priest of infectious holiness'..
just imagine - you met him by accident
one fine day, and next thing you know,
you've caught - well, they're waiting to see
whether it's a mild case, give it time,
maybe severe or even, terminal..
a bit like around this time of year,
popping into a pub in Bethlehem
or that place just outside the Temple
which is the equivalent of Speakers' Corner
or doing a bit of fishing just off the shore
of Galilee... these public places
are a hotbed of infection at this time of year

Treasured
A treasure that was given,
Was dismissed before declared.
The value of it was unknown...
So its purpose was not shared.
It sat amongst the midst of the people.
And they ignored its glow.
They ignored the power of it.
And for years its existence,
The people claimed not to know.
One day the treasure was spotted by a stranger.
Someone who had lived and been around.
Someone who knew what to value in life...
And stumbled accidently,
Upon this small town.
Instantly the treasure was recognized.
And the stranger could not believe what was seen.
The treasure was grateful a respect was shown.
And the people were surprised...
What had been announced by the stranger,
Had not been known!
But it was too late!
The treasure was only there,
To have someone appreciate it.
That appreciation was given!

Holiday Yets
You know the holidays
are the best
and the worst.
Expectations rise
to levels so high
that they surely
cannot ever be reached.
Then there is the commercialization
and the money we all feel we need
to buy the gifts
which our relatives
may or may not need.
While joy in the giving
is there
also the feeling that
you don't have enough money
to participate
or your gift
is not as good a gift
as the other one
the brother-in-law gives;
you know the brother-in-law
who gives
just to throw
his money around.

Oh how I wish the
holidays
had more celebration in them.
And then the bills
come in January
preceded by New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve that can be both anxiety-ridden
and wonderful.
What have I achieved this year?
If dating
who is this person
and will they be there next year?
Or my God
they just might be
and I don't know how
I feel about that'
or worse I could be

I thought this summer
I can forget you, but the truth is that I can't
I'm so weak
It kept haunting me every day and night
