And the life is a journey but not a rat race!
I understand that I cannot run like a horse
And that would be much appreciated
Merits for you Sir!
My rickety stable is much safer than the racecourse.
But I have a small question,
Why in my peaceful dreams
They try to pierce my bare feet
And wear the horseshoes?
*[ When I come home after work she goes out for struggle and when she comes back I go out again, the old ragged station Master who knows about our complicated schedule and he sees us everyday with his dim lantern.
These two shuttle service trains are wearied now and when we go for shunting? ]

Lonesome Poke Town
As the train was approaching a small town out West
The passenger looked out of the window and saw the most
beautiful horse in the world
The train was not scheduled to stop there
But, Jack, the passenger pulled the stop cord
Jack went into the train station He asked the station master about the
horse
He asked the station master about the horse
It so happened that he owned the horse
Jack asked if he could buy the horse
The station master said, 'Yes'
Jack paid the master $25.00
And the most beautiful horse was his now
And he named him 'Irish'

Trains
Here I am at the end of the day
With a cup of cold coffee
From the station buffet.
On trains, on trains I seem
To spend my life on trains.
See the blue suit banker in the ticket line.
Got an evening standard with playboy
Hidden behind.
On trains, on trains he seems
To spend his life on trains.
Time after time.
Was I just dreaming?
Did I help you aboard?
Full passenger service ---
Let me help with the door.
Sit down take the weight off your feet.
Theres a train full of people Id like
You to meet.
On trains, on trains we love
To spend our lives on trains.
Join the secret world of trains.
Feel the pleasure. touch the pain.
Drift into yesterday.
Once and again
I was just thinking.
We could meet sometime
On the 17.30 where
I usually find
My friends at the end of the day.
May we pay your fare, lady?
We should like you to stay
In our train. on trains ---
Youll have to spend your life
On trains.
I hear theres an office party on the 18.05.
Youll be home for christmas if they
Take you alive from the train.
Those trains, we have to spend our lives
On trains.
Once and again
I was just thinking.
We could meet any time
On number two platform
Where I usually find
My friends at the end of the day.
On trains, trains, trains.

Two Station Masters
TWO STATION MASTERS
My friend is a station-master
at Hill Groove in
Nilgiri mountain section
33 years of railway service
fully spent in this sleepy station
hardly, two trains a day
in summer, say, one more
no goods traffic
nor frequent crossings
no revenue instead - ‘Safety' award
for ‘nil' accident record,
closed for rains and landslide,
station is locked up at 6 pm sharp
his gross earnings is forty thousand
for two or three man- hours spent
hill allowance, free warm clothing
no boss to obey, no risk to bother
happiest worker
does'nt want any change, either
look at his counter-part
positioned in a busiest double line,
handling 30-45 trains, within
a tight span of 8 hours
whole night, in full vigil
with all round tension
at times, an irate passenger
supervision of all kind
sucked out and exhausted
leaves for his home,
for the same pay - packet
is it an anomaly
or equity, parity, one cadre- one pay
equal pay for equal work
………………………..I have no answer.

Photo Finish
His weary obedient horse skipped its meals
And had no proper sleep for few days.
He checked the stable and found some horseflies cause to the sickness.
He cleaned the premises well
And everything back to normal.
But it neighs again; 'Master, still I couldn't win a race and you spent me a lot in vain.'
He said; 'Do not worry my dear Tattoo and I am sure that you will be the winner of incoming grand race.'
Though it showed its talent,
They say that the winner has to be decided from a photograph.
[ I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness......]

Constipated hostler and the homebred woman
Sometimes he sleeps in the stable
And wakes up to gadflies' hubbub.
Scarcely a woman waits for him
At the Pub to secure his wallet.
He neighs like a horse after two gulps of cheap liquor
And she plucks the gray hair from his beehive like beard.
After sometimes both of them groan
And the Platonic love continues till the rickety stable closed.

Sonnet: Piggy-back Ride
Yes, children enjoy a piggy-back ride!
The father as horse and mother beside;
The thrilled little ones just simply enjoy,
And mock at the horse while laughing with joy.
Giddap! Giddap! They goad the horse faster;
Today, they are the jockey and the master!
And then the horse must dance well to their tune,
Slowly, gracefully and speed up too, soon.
Sometimes, the horse is just compelled to neigh!
Shaking its head for the entire day;
No doubt, the act gets troublesome indeed;
Until taken to the ‘stable’ to feed.
At times, children can the wildest horse tame!
But, condescension’s, the key to the game.

Pegasus
If I am a Pegasus, the winged horse in Greek mythology.
Definitely I would have changed my stable, jockey and reins
As I want to be free myself.
I am sure that my Master would have released me
And I find a short cut for my loved ones.
I promise him to be returned with my lost identity.
Then I could have request from my Master to be a Stallion as usual
And give back the wings according to my phenomenon.
Master, please do not count my teeth as I am a workhorse without the working papers.

You Have Travelled The Distant Places Of This World
your work is confrontational with
a lot of faces and races
you have a hard time with the black ones and
the yellow ones
and their accents you call as barbarians
of your age and taste
you struggle to move to the top
to control and be the master
it is like
everyone is an enemy and
there is always the suspicion that this friend
is here to kill you
for he too must go to the top
without you
you are getting bald
on the side of your head the white hairs are popping out
you need a walk by the shores of the sea
you need this Confucian walk for a hundred years
to think and be whole
amidst the wars you have created
or imagined
you have travelled the distant places of the world
and you are holding the globe
with your hands
the red dots the stars marking the lines
the shapes of cities
are all in your head
and then you confront me and plainly say
you are unhappy fighting this
kind of war this tugging of ropes
among countries
on a Sunday morning you call me by your cellphone
you are back to your father's ricefield
the one he plowed when he was still alive
the mud that grew the rice grains
the one that sent you to the national university
you say you want your feet bare
and be muddy you say you want to learn how the farmers work
what their hopes and dreams are
you laugh with them
you are learning now
you are whole again you are telling me
you finally found your home this place where they do not know
how to write
and speak english
your brothers like you now
you are eating rice with your bare hands
you are walking their soil without your rubber slippers
then i said i have to go i too have lots of things to do

Windy Town
Driving home from the highland line
We done some gigs on the clyde and the tyne
They flew us in from a hamburg strip
The taste of dusseldorf still on our lips
And on the bus there is a friend of mine
We go way back to the scene of the crime
We sit up front and share a cigarette
And try to remember what we tried to forget
He say do you remember?
He say do you recall?
I say yeah I remember, oh, I remember it all
Every time that cold wind blows
Every time I hear that sound
Late night trains shunting down by the river
I remember windy town
We come so far and we move so fast
Making hay see it all go past
Round the world and round again
Up and down on that gravy train
But every time that cold wind blows
Every time I hear that sound
The east coast cross winds on the cold wet stone
I remember windy town
The freezing corners and the empty streets
The burning passion and the cold wet feet
Three tricky miles home every night
Dodging from the shadows underneath those amber light
No car for kissing and nowhere to go
Except inside each other and I loved you so
I held your face as you shivered in the rain
Girl Ill always love you and Ill love you again
Oh everytime, everytime
Every time that cold wind blows
Every time I hear that sound
Late night trains shunting down by the river
I remember windy town
Every time that cold wind blows
Every time I hear that sound
The east coast cross winds on the cold wet stone
I remember windy town

Weaving at Night
Lampwick turned up, the room glows white.
The looms moves easily all night long
as feet work and push below.
Nimbly the shuttle flies in and out,
wide or narrow, big or small, sliding in snug.
Long or short, it glides out smoothly.
Girls who do it right, let it soak.
Here is another translation of the same poem:
Light turned on, it is found such a white,
The stalk moves slightly and repeatedly all night.
Pushing with the feet, but lightly release,
Shuttle passing through brings joy and ease.
Large or narrow, small or big they all fit,
Long and short, size and form so be it.
To make it best, girl needs to soak it with care .
The cloth color won't fade before three whole years.

Complicated Disaster
COMPLICATED DISASTER
She knows about me
I heard about your secret life
She thinks that youre a family man
You got two babies and a wife.
I never thought you'd sink this love
(Would did you have to paint a picture)
Two many lovers in this wrong
I'm suffocating.
Chorus:
And now youre standing in front of me
Begging me not to leave
Complicated disaster
And as I struggle to understand
What we came over with
Promised me ever after
I turned our way but I keep wrong
Youre all that I remember.
It's been three hours
Since she shared her story in this room
She seems like such a gentle girl
You came and left her much too soon.
She said it lasted just six months
(But I could feel her devastation)
The fear of being completely wrong
Has taken over.
Chorus
All the plans we were making
Just got washed away with the tears
I'm drowning but you cant save me this time
No no, complicated disaster.
And as I struggle to understand
What we came over with
Promised me ever after
I turned our way but I keep wrong, oh no.
Chorus

I brush my old horse's teeth
' Why you look so sad these days? '
I asked her, my obedient friendly horse 'Moon'.
She said very calmly; 'The race is close by Boss.'
' What can I do for you my dear? '
I brush her teeth then at least she can smile whether she lose or not?
She jumps the hurdle that I am sure and I locked the rickety stable.

An old fashioned horse in a modern racecourse
I choose my destination
But someone interrupts
And they ask where do you go on vacation?
I say sorry my dear, the word 'vacation' has disappeared
since a long time in my notepad.
And this working horse gallops out of the track
So never reach the goal it seems.
Even I do not have a leisure time to replace my wearied horseshoes.
Someone interrupts!

Chestnut Street Revisited
Written by John Mellencamp
Well I've lived and breathed and been disbelieved
In these small town streets too long
I've held nothin' but aces and been many places
And hung on the corner 'til dawn
But my hands have been tied
To a life I've been denied
I'm just a small town boy bein' used like a toy
And workin' a nine to five
Well I worked like a fool 'til after done with high school
Just to form a rock and rollin' band
But the streets were exploding and my life I was decoding
Had a dream I couldn't understand
And I work it out everyday
For no fun and very little pay
I'm just a smal town boy bein' used like a toy
And doin' what other people say
Well I've drooled and fooled and been ridiculed
For havin' dreams just above my reach
And I've lied and died and tried suicide
For all the things you people wanna preach
But I always had to turn the other way
When I heard those homefolks say
(They say) You're just a small town boy bein' used like a toy
And livin' on a day to day
But you must believe that when I walk down the tracks
All those young girls fall back and say
There goes that sleek young silhouette
He don't drive no Corvette
but he stings just like a Sting Ray
And that's my only redemption in this house of detention
That keeps me from simply blowin' it all away
'Cause when I walk down the street in the hot summer heat
I say, God don't take this away
Well by the end of the day, all the kids would go play
And I'd come staggering back home
With a dream in my hand and a master plan
That wouldn't leave my mind alone
Well I compromised all my schemes
And I fluct

A monotonous Closet Drama
We get up early in the morning.
I dropp her to work
And I too grab the struggle.
Evening when I am off
I pick her to our gloomy roost.
Take dinner and go to sleep.
I am awake in the middle of the night
And she's fast asleep on our rickety bed.
She cries and smiles in her dreams
And I am bit worried that she could have eloped with a King.

Time
I know that i, I cant believe
Just what the past has brought me
To the man I wanna be
I know that we have had some times
That we cant forget the struggle
Cause we have so far to go
I know weve changed but
Change can be so good
So lets not forget why
Its understood that
Chorus:
Time, look where we are and what weve been through
Time, sharing our dreams
Time, goes on and on everyday, baby
Time is what it is
Come what mayc(come what may)
I remember when, mom used to say
That things are getting better
And youll soon be on your way
Remember those days
When we would sing at the drop of a dime (oooh)
Way back when nothing mattered (mmm, mm, mm)
I know weve changed, but
Change can be so good
Oh so lets not forget why its understood that
Chorus:
Time, look where we are and what weve been through
(look where we are)
Time, sharing our dreams (dreams, dreams, dreams, oh yeah)
Time, (goes on and on) goes on and on everyday (everyday)
Time is what it is (oh)
Come what may (come what may)
Bridge:
So here we are (here we are)
And well always stay together
And through it all you know we owe it all to you, you, you , you
Time goes on and on
Chorus:
Time (time), look where we are and what weve been through
Time, sharing our dreams
Time, (goes on and on) goes on and on everyday (everyday)
Time is what it is (time is what is it)
Time (time), look where we are and what weve been through
Time (time), sharing our dreams (sharing our dreams)
Time, (goes on and on) goes on and on everyday
Time is what it is, come what may
Time, goes on and on everyday, time is what it is
Come what may
Come what may

Station
Soaked in grey light
oily blue puddles
shimmer on the platform.
The train is late.
A man shuffles his feet
paper folded under a
brown woolen arm.
The shine on his shoes
would dazzle
in proper light.
A woman searches her
purse -the fare is
in here somewhere.
Keys mimic the sound.
Her dress clings to mystery.
Children playing
the way children do.
Their innocence waning
the way innocence will.
The Porter checks his watch
schedule folded under a
blue woolen arm.
Shoes worn with polish.
Face lined with age and
weathered without mystery.
A grimace or a scowl or
a look
forlorn in the tedium of the station
-trains coming going screeching.
In his station
there is nothing to do
but wait.

Look taller, woman.
Bare your nape. With hair knotted up.
Wear sleeveless and bare loins.
Drape in muslin clothes.
Wear small studs and such sorts.
You would look taller than you are.
You look nicer than you are.
