A firm Handshake

The soldier who comes in a special plane from the battlefield
And at the Air Port he became a hero.
He walks along the red carpet and the band plays aside.
Rifles shot into the silent sky.
When the bugles blow General appears in his full uniform
And gives him a firm handshake.
But the poor soldier is unable to grab as he lost his fingers.

Soldier's Ghost

I bled for you - would you for me?

I blessed a skin in blazing fuel
Then took a bullet in a duel of
‘He or I to Die.'

I often question ‘Why? '
Do you?

My country was my life to give -
Would you for country cease to live?
Sinking in a mire of death,
You have no choice -
So while you're still alive,
Rejoice!

I cried in failure - did you care?
And as I waned, were you aware of
What I did -?
Fighting for my country while you hid
Behind your comfort back at home?

Still relaxed?
My wife and child are fading at the tomb.

Mother’s Cry of Late

Where for art thou, soldier?
Out East? West? –
And when? –
What part your rabid history?
And why? –
What wrought your destiny? –
For whom
You’d wreak your enmity –
I crave your fate to pen!

What comprehension of the
Order? –
‘Listen up! you men!
Raze to ground the taken land!
See they die and e’er you’ll stand, for
Death is but a grain of sand –
The mighty triumph, medal grand!

Now go you well!
Amen! ’

What sight upon the bloody lie
Of war? – your doubtful fate.

‘Where for art thou, soldier? ’ –
Your mother’s cry of late.

Tin Soldier Man

Just a quiet city sport[? ]
With a wife and little kids to support
So immaculately dressed when he walks
Like a soldier on parade
Hes a tin soldier man
Living in a little tin wonderland
Very happy little tin soldier man
When you set him on your knee
Every day you see his army march down the street
Changing guards at the high road
Hes a tin soldier man
Wickie wa-waddle doo[? ]
And hes got a little tin lady too
Just to put a little shine on his shoes
And keep his uniform tidy
Hes a tin soldier man
Wickie wa-waddle doo[? ]
And hes got a little tin lady too
Just to put a little shine on his shoes
And make his uniform tidy
Hes a tin soldier man
Living in a little tin wonderland
Very happy little tin soldier man
When you sit him on your knee
Hes a tin soldier man
Hes a tin soldier man

What You Find

There is discipline in A Soldier
you can see it when he walks,
There is honor in A Soldier
you hear it when he talks.
There is courage in A Soldier
you can see it in his eyes,
There is loyalty in A Soldier
that he will not compromise.
There is something in A Soldier
that makes him stand apart,
There is strength in A Soldier
that beats from his heart.
A Soldier isn't a title any man
can be hired to do,
A Soldier is the soul of that man
buried deep inside of you.
A Soldier's job isn't finished after
an 8 hour day or a 40 hour week,
A Soldier is always A Soldier
even while he sleeps.
A Soldier serves his country first
and his life is left behind,
A Soldier has to sacrifice what
comes first in a civilian's mind.
If you are civilian -
I am saying this to you.....
next time you see A Soldier
remember what they do.
A Soldier is the reason our land
is 'Home of the free',
A Soldier is the one that is brave
protecting you and me.
If you are A Soldier -
I am saying this to you.....
Thank God for EVERY SOLDIER
Thank God for what YOU do!

At The Sound Of The Drum

ARE you going for a soldier with your curly yellow hair,
And a scarlet coat instead of the smock you used to wear?
Are you going to drive the foe as you used to drive the plough?
Are you going for a soldier now?

I am going for a soldier, and my tunic is of red
And I'm tired of woman's chatter, and I'll hear the drum instead;
I will break the fighting line as you broke your plighted vow,
For I'm going for a soldier now.

For a soldier, for a soldier are you sure that you will go,
To hear the drums a-beating and to hear the bugles blow?
I'll make you sweeter music, for I'll swear another vow--
Are you going for a soldier now?

I am going for a soldier if you'd twenty vows to make;
You must get another sweetheart, with another heart to break,
For I'm sick of lies and women and the harrow and the plough,
And I'm going for a soldier now!

In A Soldier...You Will Find...

In a soldier...
Loyalty and strength you see.
In a soldier...
Discipline, bravery.
In a soldier...
A world that is free.
In a soldier..
Sacrifice, so the world can be free.
In a soldier...
No compromise.
In a soldier...
Courage in his eyes.
In a soldier...
A special bond.
In a soldier...
Iraq, Viet-Nam.
In a soldier...
Sad, drooped eyes.
In a soldier...
Pain, when a buddy dies.
In a soldier...
Terrible places.
In a soldier...
Tough, grim faces.
In a soldier...
Stories untold.
In a soldier...
Action makes him old.
In a soldier...
Dark, frightening nights.
In a soldier...
Missing his lovely wife.
In a soldier...
Memories of a decent life.
In a soldier...
Scars deep in the mind.
In a soldier...
An exploding mine.
In a soldier...
The thrill of leaving war.
In a soldier...
No more pains anymore.
In a soldier...
No more tears.
In a soldier...
Leaving war, after a long, trying year.

An American Soldier

Proud to be in the Army
A government Agent
Sent across the sea
This is an American Soldier

Dressed in a uniform
To show his allegiance
And weather the storm
This is an American Soldier

Sworn to protect you and I
Defender of freedom
and willing to die
This is an American Soldier

Given a secret mission
He completes his orders
Through strong ambition
This is an American Soldier

In foreign lands he attends
To the fallen soldiers
Whose wounds need to mend
This is an American Soldier

Upon his return he cries
Becoming a hero
He says his goodbyes
This is an American Soldier

Gratified our nation stands
With heads held high we aim
To honor this man
This is an American Soldier

A soldier is what you see
More than a warrior
He is part of me
This is an American Soldier

…This is my brother
An American Soldier

Deaf Gunpowder

Come on soldier.
Soldier?
Get off of your battlefield
Let me take you to a place
Where your weapons are sealed.

Come on soldier.
Soldier?
Look me in the eye
Your heart hasn’t chosen to be here
Then why are you here?
Ask yourself why.

Come on soldier.
Soldier?
It’s time to breathe
It’s time to stop fighting for your life,
For something you don’t believe.

Hey soldier?
Soldier?
I do understand
It wasn’t your choice to be here
But you chose not to fight for that;
You chose to fight for someone else.
That is why in life you were not alive
But when you died,
That was when you started to breathe.

Hey soldier?
Soldier?
I know you cannot hear
Because you strived
You are alive
To you death will never come near.

Soldier Going To The War

Soldier going to the war--
Will you take my heart with you,
So that I may share a little
In the famous things you do?

Soldier going to the war--
If in battle you must fall,
Will you, among all the faces,
See my face the last of all?

Soldier coming from the war--
Who shall bind your sunburnt brow
With the laurel of the hero,
Soldier, soldier--vow for vow!

Soldier coming from the war--
When the street is one wide sea,
Flags and streaming eyes and glory--
Soldier, will you look for me?

And I Thank You...

A young soldier takes a deep breath before battle,
Now millions of miles away from the golden plains and the cattle,
Fearing for his life, and another battle loss,
He closes his eyes, and grips tight on his golden cross.

The sergeant yells, and he gets into line,
The troop marches to the battlefield, early morning, about nine,
With sweat running down their faces, and dirt in their hair,
The men look to the sky, and say a silent prayer.

A grenade explodes and the troop scurries on the run,
The young soldier hides in a foxhole, griping onto his gun,
He pops up, but too much smoke he can’t see,
Squinting as hard as he can to find the enemy.

The day is gone, and the young soldier still holds his gun to his shoulder,
Bruised and battered, he feels the night become colder,
As he looks to his left, he wants to break down and cry,
Because he had to watch his best friend get shot, and then he died.

The stale scent of tragedy in the air hovers,
Because this young soldier lost many of his band of brothers,
And now the enemy has fallen back with a retreat,
Because they now know that they have been beat.

You fought for the red, white, and blue,
And for this I greatly thank you,
You fought to allow me to speak my mind freely behind this ballpoint pen,
So once again I thank you, my hero, my dear veteran.

I was a Soldier once

Old, tired, physically worn out,
With every move my muscles shout.
Woodworking, gardening, lazing about,
nothing to do but widdle and pout.

I was a Soldier once, large and strong,
I was a Soldier once, doing no wrong.
I was a Soldier once, fighting your war,
I was a Soldier once, mighty to the core.

I sit behind a desk now, slowly getting fat,
Knowing where I should really be settling my hat.
This civilian life I live, is so deadly to me,
I should, again, be a soldier, a sight to see.

I was a Soldier once, Yes Sir, No Sir, anything you say Sir.
I was a Soldier once; it was the life I preferred.
I was a Soldier once, leading from the saddle.
I was a Soldier once, living in my battle rattle.

Those that have never been one shall never know.
Those that put them down can basically go blow.
In this day and age, Soldiers protect our Freedom
In this day and age, everyone should be one.
I know this because,

I was a Soldier once, protecting you and yours.
I was a Soldier once, with back to back fighting tours.
I was a Soldier once, dying for the American way.
and although I was a Soldier once,
I should be a Soldier Now, fighting for you every day.

My Little Soldier

For you, my little soldier,
I got you an army;
An army of little green men waiting,
Obeying every command.

For you, my little soldier,
I got you a car;
One that raced, and
Flashed by the tree.

For you, my little soldier,
I got you a plane;
A plane that flew, by
The ceiling fan.

For you, my little soldier,
I got you a letter;
One that gave blessings, and
Kept you safe.

For you, my little soldier,
This year I got you flowers;
Flowers that shone against the snow, and
kept vigil at your stone.

The 'Fallin Soldier' - My Hero

I don't know who you are, but I feel I must say
these words that have come to me 'today'

I want to say 'Thank-You' for all that you've done
As a soldier, and who 'YOU'VE' become!

'A Fallin Soldier' now, is your title you see!
But your families know you better than me.

I feel for them and what they lost
'A HERO'... at a priceless cost!

May time heal all their sorrow
Remember... there is always tomorrow!

My Prayers are with them, only time will tell!
To give them the strength and the good will.

'This Hero' - is how I vision 'YOU'
A Soldier who did what they had to do!

You will 'NEVER' be fogotten - this is so true!
'Someone' of courage, through and through!

What did it cost to take you away?
It cost your life - and I say THANKS everyday!

We can now tell, the stories so 'PROUDLY'
of 'OUR HERO'...'AND TELL THEM LOUDLY!

You fought for your country, 'YOU'VE WON' you see!
Because you left behind your special memory!

Your family will always remember you
in different ways that I do!

You will always be known as this 'Fallin Soldier' you see.
For this person who fought for my country and ME!

This Soldier

This soldier is my hero.
He is the one i get my strength from
He is strong; like two body builders put together.
He is brave and fearless.

This soldier is my cousin.
The memories we have together mean more to me
Than anything in the world.
He is the one who I pray for at night.

This soldier is fighting right now.
With the gun in his hand, he fires.
Bang, bang, bang,
Shots fire from his gun as his body tenses up.
Is he as scared as I am?

This soldier is my soldier,
Without him, I wouldn't be the same.
My soldier is the one I miss,
The one I haven't seen since 3rd grade.

This soldier is proud.
He fights for his own life, just to keep us safe.
He is the one that I want to know,
That he is my hero for life.

My Uncle is a Soldier

My uncle is a soldier
a soldier of the U.S. Navy Seabees
he helps people day in and day out
to reach their right to be free
My uncle is a soldier
in a poor foreign land
he helps people's villages
with no guns but the strength of his hands
My uncle is a soldier
but much more than that to me
My uncle is a soldier
and a hero to our family

This Good Soldier

This good soldier’s in a war
A war that is not his to fight
And he don’t want to anymore.

This good soldier’s lost what’s right
Trapped in war, nowhere to go
Oh, listen to his painful plight!

This good soldier’s scars do show
Of past wounds that haunt his soul
From battlefields since unfit to sow.

This good soldier plays his role
From his fate he cannot run
But these long years did take their toll.

This good soldier’s finally done
No more of war, he closed the door,
On the field he buried his gun.

Sombody's Soldier

The thoughts of you are in my head, like the blood in my veins.
They each go through my body, bringing back memories that hurt.
I can see your face and it brings tears to my eyes.
I never got the chance to tell you how much you mean to me.
You died before I could kiss your hand goodbye.
You were somebody’s son, somebody’s brother.
You were somebody’s soldier.

Even though you’re gone, your team can feel you guiding them.
They feel your heart beat with them.
They came with you on the plane ride back, and they thank you.
If it wasn’t for you they’d be joining you, but you saved them.
You’re the one who sacrificed everything to keep them alive.
You were somebody’s general, you were somebody’s captain.
You were somebody’s soldier.

Everyone is gathering around to bid you goodbye forever.
Tears streaming down their faces, and down mine.
They’re sad that they have to say goodbye, and so am I.
It’s hard to say that you’re never coming home.
You were somebody’s husband, somebody’s father.
You were somebody’s soldier.

Everyday after school, I will come and visit you.
I know that I will never see you again.
I know that I will never be able to hug you once more.
I’ve wished so many times for this to be a dream, but I know that it isn’t.
You were somebody’s best friend, somebody’s neighbour.
You were somebody’s soldier.

A million words can’t bring you back, I know because I’ve tried.
Neither would a million tears, I know because I’ve cried.
You were somebody’s hero, somebody’s idol.
You were my soldier.

Private Limbless Hero

Private Limbless Soldier.
Shaking dancers making chances
Form rows of soldiers
Fighting battles in lost romances
Swinging on ropes over bell towers
Ringing songs as battle commences
Breaking legs at fields on slaughter
Bellies full of bombs making new laughter
Explode to feed another soldier
Lying limbless hero not quite fed
Spew out their mother and father
On dead enemy soldier.

Private limbless hero
Surrounded by circle of army
Each with gun to their heads
They all shoot together
And fall on private limbless hero
Who see’s their limbs flutter
Together making another limb
That grows from his shoulder
So he can hold their pistol
Under his chin, then kill
Just another soldier.
