A Bird Has No Wings In The Storm
I started re-reading Kawabata Yasunari san's 'Izu no Odoriko'
and I dream of your golden country 'Japan'.
I was surprised as I have been there.
Chiba-ken, Matsudo city, sakura-dori, tokiwadaira coffe master
funabashi Japanese language school,
the railway between Kunugiyama & goko.
Sapporo beer, sake with sakasuki
taste of tempura and udong; sushi and sashimi
the restaurants I visited with my life long friend Shozo Suzuki san and his
family.
I walk towards in the memory lane
melancholy tune of windbells in Yoshiwara,
still I breathe the cool breeze there
and I sniff the fragrance of death from isolated graveyards
I would like to drown in Sumida -kawa
like Dazai Ozamu san who killed himself by drowning in the lakeTamagawa at Inokashira park.
I am sure that you will bury me near by Ishikawa Takuboku san's grave.
Though I am a Sri Lankan, I may be belongs to your soil in my early birth.
Oh! God if you are still remain in the sky; please grant me an opportunity to see them at least once
before I die in my cage.
that's my only wish.
Dedication to my life long friend Shozo.Suzuki & his family. Also to the poetess Sayumi Takahashi san & Yasuyuki Tanaka san.

[ A person who loves Spring, Is a person of pure heart,
Like the flower of a pansy, that person is my friend
A person who loves Summer, Is a person of strong mind,
Like waves break the rocks, that person is my father
A person who loves Fall, Is a person of deep thoughts,
Like love in the heart, that person is my lover
A person who loves Winter, Is a man of wide heart,
Like the Earth melts the ice, that person is my mother.'
When I finished the song my beloved woke me up and said;
'Domo Arigato Gozaimashita' [Thank you very much.]

A writer and his ink pad
He tries to collect the hidden picture in the smudged pad.
Oh! A wearied person dipped in a bottle of ink and he attempted to commit suicide by drowning,
But the bottle is empty.
Then he tries again to behead himself by his old rusty nib.
* I dedicate this to Kawabata Yasunari, Ozamu Dasai & Yukio Mishima the three selected Japanese novelists and also Ernest Hemingway the American, all of them committed suicide of frustration.

Not a Foe
'Haru O Aisuru Hitho wa
Kokoro Kiyoki Hitho
Sumire no Hana no Yona
Boku no *Tomodachi'
I write this song to an unknown friend
The Red Indian.
These few lines are from a Japanese song
I learned while I was in a Japanese Language school, Funabashi, Japan.
You may ask the meaning of that I am sure.
I am sorry it's almost forgotten.
Human kind forgets everything
Not purposely,
It's the nature of their caliber.
I don't know your name brother.
But I have seen you many times in the black & white Cow Boy movies.
I touched your old land accidentally
And I feel the palpitation of your brave heart!
Sorry, I can remember now the meaning of the last line in that song.
It says; 'You are my* friend.'

A La Carte
A gloomy evening
I was in the red-light district of Yoshiwara, Japan.
In a restaurant I ordered 'Sashimi & Sake'
raw fish with garlic sauce and rice wine
my favorite dish.
I saw a bonhomie 'Geisha'
she wears a red & maroon kimono
who brings the plate with a sing song.
A very familiar face.
Oh! I couldn't believe.
She is my loving wife.
I was so angry and I asked her' who brought you here? '
'you brought me here' she replied calmly.
I woke up to the set alarm.
The dream complicated my mind the whole morning
and suddenly I called home.
She is very fine.

I Have A Friend
I have a friend who cannot walk
I have a friend all he does is talk
I have a friend, Philippe is his name
I have a friend and we are just the same
I have a friend he’s seventeen years old
I have a friend who has a heart of gold
I have a friend who would catch me if I fall
It is only that he has no legs at all
I have a friend and when my friend was seven
A car ran over him and he almost went to heaven
I have a friend with a smile that I adore
I have a friend who lives in a house of four
I have a friend his family is his home
I have a friend who dreams of visiting Rome
I have a friend who is still finishing school
Yet some people tell him that for that he is a fool
I have a friend they say he is disabled
He has no legs and for that he is labeled
I have a friend who has a friend
They were made for each other; their love will never end
I have a friend who likes to name the stars
I have a friend and what he hates is cars
I have a friend who’s happier than you and me
I have a friend who’s shown me how happy I can be
I have a friend who’s had his bad times too
I have a friend who’s better than me and you
I have a friend so dear to me and kind
That another one like him I shall never find!

Why she is quiet since a long time?
I would like to hear your melancholy songs
From the edge of this world where I stay now.
Is there any restrictions over there to sing?
I am sure the fanatics have no taste of songs
And they only prefer the crazy war it seems,
Please do not worry my dear poetess
Time heals all the wounds
And I hope your cage door would open soon automatically by the winds of will power.

My old satchel
Still I carry your heavy fragrance in the old satchel over my slanted shoulder.
Life flies away from me day by day.
And our golden school stands still with new students.
In that narrow flowery path they walk to our nostalgic school
And we are too old to stand at the gate.
I imagine the music teacher's sensitive finger tips touch the reeds
And gives the melancholy song of life again.

The Death of a Friend
The death of a friend
I try to be brave
But I can't stop the tears
When I visit His grave
Can He be replaced
I don't see how
He was my buddy
He was my pal
I am lonely at home
I am lonely at school
I miss my friend
He was so cool
I go to the park
I try to play ball
But is's not the same
Not at all
My minds a mess
My minds a haze
Lonely nights
And lonely days
I want my friend
I want Him back
The death of a friend
He's not coming back.

We Are Defended By Those We Do Not Know The Names Of
WE ARE DEFENDED BY THOSE WE DO NOT KNOW THE NAMES OF
We are defended by those we do not know the names of -
And when one is killed
We know the name for a moment,
Before leaving the long memory to the family-
A few it is true – special heroes-
Have stories and names that remain through the years.
But mostly the dead are anonymous
And the wounded and the injured too.
And a country and a people goes on in freedom-
While in this family or that
Which we will always pray we will not be among
Pain and Loss Forever.

To dream of 'Carpe Diem
A corpse condemned to live
I long was lost
somewhere in my painful years
of grief, of doubts, of fears.
Ghost of my own memory
I long was dragged...
trapped inside my overt pain,
isolated, I ever been;
tied by threads unseen
I stay unmoved -
bound by fate unrest
I deem to stoop.
To live a life with life
I long did dream;
to dream to never drown
in woe, in qualms, in tears.
Prisoner of my own history
I long be freed
from ones my soul
played havoc with.
I long to feel my blood to rush
to feel, to touch... be felt, be touched.
Oh how I dream [and wake in it]
to live a life with life.

My Family
My family will forever be in my heart,
My sister's mean the world to me,
More than life,
All I ever wanted was a complete family,
To have a mother whom I never met,
My family will always remain who they are in my heart and soul,
My family is more important than my friends and my lover,
Family will always come first,
Family is family,
No matter what they did they'll always remain family.

The Last Of My Family
I dont have much family left
Most were stolen from me, what a theft
Very few, doesn't take that long
Walk by us and blink, we are all gone
Ibarra a name i call my own
Come on doesn't life give any loan?
Ana, that car loving child of yours Roy
Take good care of him, Ryan too, I promise i'll get them one toy
My brothers are my point in life
The reason i dont pick up that knife
The last of my family are almost done
Im scared, that there be in the end only one
Come on i call the rest of my family
I will giv a hug, happily
So the last of my family come over here
Lets talk, sit down, I got beer?

A poem in a garbage bin
A man dies, yes he is dying.
He lived like a dead man.
Nobody knew about his whereabouts.
My dear English professor,
extremely sorry for my grammar mistakes,
you explained me about vowels, present tense,
past tense, commas, semicolon and et cetera.,
Why all these unnecessary pinchings sir!
He is already dead.
The man who hasn't a family
who worries about him?
Let him rest peacefully.
All in his lifetime he was dead
and now only he is living after the trauma.
His name is common man.

Sonnet: Walking With Nature
Oh how lovely ’tis to go for a stroll,
In the early morning or in evening!
When road is clear and you are the lone soul;
With cool a breeze and the lovebirds singing!
Oh how lovely ’tis to take a deep breath,
Brisk-walking when the air is very clean!
Life-span is lengthened and postponed is death!
Invigorating, the exercise has been.
Oh how lovely ’tis a solitary walk!
One’s mind thinking of things goodly ahead;
Having friend Nature, only one to talk,
And have a short rest there-after in bed.
The more a person endears friend Nature,
The more you remain healthy in future.

Always Think Of Heaven
When Family loves you, you can tell
Always think of Heaven; never Hell
When Family photos are taken, they exude all
Always think of Heaven; Peter and Paul
When Family is together, there is a word 'kiss'
Always think of Heaven; Genesis
When Family creates, the best feeling around
Always think of Heaven; actually solid ground
When Family reunions, are the years' events
Always think of Heaven; you are Heaven sent
When Family members, are graduating school
Always think of Heaven; actually really cool
When Family takes a fall, then just has to rest
Always think of Heaven; it will be the best
When Family has turmoil, agony and pain
Always think of Heaven; it actually helps again
When Family needs a break, in life's' game
Always think of Heaven; that's where the Lord remains

Long Way To Go
We still got a long way to go
We still got a long way to go
We all got a long way to go
What's keeping us apart isn't selfishness
What's holding us together isn't love
Listen to the man who's been
Touched all his life
Yes he's the one they call the fool
Where is the saviour of the sidewalk life
And the road that takes us to the crusades
I've seen the shadows
As they're moving in my sleep
Leading the blind poet to his grave
We still got a long way to go
We still got a long way to go
Yes we all got a long way to go
Please don't waste your energy on me my friend
Cause we still got a long way to go
We'll meet again some day
But right now just go away
Cause I still got a long way to go
The silence is speaking
So why am I weeping
I guess I love it
I love it to death
We still got a long way to go
Yes we still got a long way to go
Yes we all got a long way to go
