Heart Break
I don't understand how to begin,
how to stop my life from this slow death.
I tried to conceal it, to make believe
that I'm okay. But the more I am deprived of it,
the more it harms me anyway.
How effortlessly she let go off,
how fast she changed. While here
I'm feeling hurt, she chose to hurt.
I pleaded her to change,
to be more responsive and sensitive of my emotions.
But she chose to be who she is. Because I love her,
it didn't matter. Instead of complaining,
I chose to believe it.
Now I'm here all alone,
asking myself where I went south.
I've been sympathetic to all her shortcomings,
trying to believe that's how she is.
But still here I am, hurting and breaking.
I want to let go and move on,
but still I'm waiting and wondering
if she might understand.
Every night I want my next day without heavy feelings,
crossing my fingers that
the whole thing is unreal.
This night is finishing
and so is our heartbreaking story;
now I'm here writing this open letter to my life.

my Hijab
I don’t understand why people are attacking me on what I chose to wear
I guess all those people want me to do is to show my hair
But it is my choice and they have no right to interfere
But they make it their business to do so whenever I am near
If they could understand that this is my choice and I believe that it is right
To wear my hijab, to keep out of sight
In that way I am safe from all those people out there
Since I have nothing to show for them to desirably stare
I am satisfied with what I’m doing since it satisfies God as well
And whenever I put the hijab on I feel safe in God’s secured shell
So stop attacking me
On whom I chose to be
By wearing my hijab I am with no doubt free from all the bad
And this is what certainly drives people mad
But I’m not going to take it off just to satisfy and please the people out there
So don’t waste your time insulting me since I won’t even care
I don’t see myself free when exposing myself while walking on the street
But walking fully covered with nothing to see and take advantage of, I feel complete
My hijab grants me respect for myself and from others too
It is hijab, something that has changed my life all the way through

Passing On Pain To The Next One In Line 5.17.2008
Pain is a strange companion, according to Charlotte
Bronte pain is a scorpion to be squeezed in the hand
until it goes numb so as to deaden the pain that does
not go away by itself
Doesn’t matter how I order my life, I have to traverse
cycles of pain, for energy we have to eat, when I eat
I am ill, when I don’t the pain goes away, as well as
the power to survive
Balancing between waxing and waning cycles of pain,
we chose our lives before we were born, my soul chose
suffering to understand life, the pain of people who seem
so arrogant
But underneath hearts are burning with feelings aflame,
emotions sprouting from scarring thoughts destroying
perspective and life, bewildered eyes chilling my soul,
hardened mouths
Turned into stone, ostensibly people are active and happy,
but underneath they are shrinking away, assigning blame in
loathing of self and rejection of life, seeking compensation in
passing on pain
