I Served
I served the man with pocket-money,
Out of a slender fund - the accumulated savings.
My parts and wholes of volumes of work
Ganged up on me, and I fed others with facts.
I had an intention, and a law, for the saying
That was mine, flowing forwards with height.
The tsunami of blessings smothered me
With heartache, as the books so read were beneficial.
I served the profession well, of reading I was first,
In this well of knowing was my prize,
For I became a knowledge in fairness.

My reading is extremely eclectic. Lately I've been teaching myself computer graphics, so I'm reading a lot about that. I read books of trivia, of facts.

On Books
Books are my first love, I’m so proud to read;
They give me knowledge and help life to lead;
Hours, days just pass by, by reading life-time;
Life would not be worth, if not for my rhyme.
Great are those people who write books all life;
Burning just candles, with Goose-quills in strife;
Tired of writing though day-long or night,
They keep on writing in such a bad light.
Books serve a great cause; their value can’t cease;
It takes years to write but reading is ease;
Book-makers struggle to print a few books;
And keep spending time to, improve their looks.
Some find their way to libraries in town;
Some remain untouched and nev’r taken down;
Silver-fish, Moths eat the books that are old;
Some are gone obsolete, some sold like gold.
Some are in tatters and must be rebound;
Books are Man’s best friends where solace is found;
Reading for long hours, does help you to learn;
Books give much knowledge and wisdom to men.
Read books with great care whose weight is in gold;
Serve generations though they may be old;
Source of much Info, deserving respect;
Books are life-partners whom you ne’er reject!

I have voted to make tough decisions in budgetary times, I've served on two recessionary budgets, my opponent has never served on any a budget committee where there was less money to spend than the year before.

The Romance Of A Book
Reading a book, you're hit by romance,
No matter the subject matter,
You can read and read,
And every book is different,
Some stories are more pleasant than others,
While some are funny, but most are serious,
For the romance of a book,
Is in everyone's heart,
No matter their age or height,
Whether male or female:
It is all relative and I devour,
Each and every book,
I can read the classics,
Or even a heart-warming romance,
I just get through so many books,
I love every storyline,
Not so much the gory parts,
But the cleverness of the fictional detectives,
And those rock stars that roam the stage,
For a book is something that will never age,
No matter how many years on the shelf,
And stories can be shared with everyone else,
Yet everyone has their own views,
And books can be lifting when they're feeling blue,
For people have been reading fiction for centuries,
But, of course, not all books are fictional:
There're the historical books, interesting,
Even if a reader is just passing through,
And we can all learn something from the history books,
And let's not forget the autobiographies:
Many a man and woman fascinating,
Having lead unique lives and having had special loves,
And there is a romance to these people,
For they walked the same earth as everyone else,
Yet brought something strange and special to the world,
Like a scientist making a new discovery,
Or a rock star penning a hit song,
And all these things are which make books belong,
I haven't met anyone yet who finds books boring,
Because books are not boring: they are fascinating,
Unique, special, strange, romantic and enjoyable,
And every reader's dream: like hitting 'play' on a record,
For this is the romance of a book.

Just To Claim Something Done
Hope without faith,
Is much like doing charity work...
And being served pancakes,
Without butter or syrup.
What is a bowl of cereal without milk?
Is the eating of icecream with a fork beneficial?
To whom is a going through the motions,
That important?
To say to satisfy a need the best way one can,
Is to admit...
One will settle for anything just to claim something done.
But to prove what?
And to who or whom would wonder why?

Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested that is, some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.

Wife
You adopted my home as yours.
I deserted your home forever.
You cooked for me and served me.
You mothered my children.
You served as a waiter for me.
You wore gold and silks for me.
I own all that is yours.
You own all as mine.
No traces will have survived in your name.
Everything stays as my legacy.
Yes, wife is a martyr of the adopted home.

It's Mine to Own
Just give me my prize!
For a life lived...
Both bold and wise.
Just give me my prize!
Un-itemized it.
It's mine to own.
Just give me my prize.
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
Inside...
I connect it.
Now I can accept.
Those feelings I cried...
With heartache.
Deep in my chest!
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
Just give me my prize!
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
Inside...
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
Those feelings I cried...
With heartache.
Deep in my chest!
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
Just give me my prize!
Un-itemized it.
It's mine to own.
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
It's mine to own.
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
It's mine to own.
Just,
Give me my prize I accept it.
It's mine to own.
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
My own.
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
My own.
I accept it.
Now I can connect.
My own.
Just give me my prize,
I accept it.
It's mine alone!

The Sum Total Of What Is Known
Knowledge limit may be a dangerous thing?
Actual constructive knowledge lances...
with willful purpose intent blindness.
Truth or falsity information awareness?
Indites cause direct knowledge of a matter...
dictates a reasonable person inquire further.
The sum of what is known
is in truth a state of limitation
corpus body of truths or facts
accumulated over course of time
acquaintance gained by sight
experience or learned studied report
facts truths principles investigation
perception clear mental apprehension.
Experts research creating new boundaries
horizons involving using disseminating
special knowledge cloistered information
classified epiphany eureka manifestation.

In Hell
You live by the book of wonders,
The book has hell on it when opened.
The inferno carries pits too grilling,
The grills are offered by devils,
Contagious diseases are handed over
To the body and bones, full of hatred.
A hell of books is opened by the librarian,
You choose a simple verb to read,
Then this verb is read, the verb that signals death.
Your death must never come by reading books,
Long scrolls so wonderful,
Of books the world is made
And the reason for books is reading,
Not living in Hell.

Reply to Save the Children ad
I would have donated, I would have
If only I had a bit more money
Money not to spend on myself
Or on luxurious un-necessities
But money that floated free,
Belonged to nowhere, hinged to nothing,
Money that did not belong to my suitcase,
Nor to my jeans pocket, or my wallet.
But money that the Unseen One had sent,
Or fruit of my possible labour, not of scrupulous savings,
Not from not giving tips to waiters, or from cutting down on my drinks,
But money, you know, that had a good heart,
Good will, and clean intentions, to provide something to a needy child
Who, if you will know, will have her own world,
Her palaces, her fairies, her roads, her jeeps,
Her own little stream, her own boats, her friends
And her family, just like me.
And then on a glittering day, of my money a new school-bag,
A geometry kit, set of books and to top it,
A smiley attached to the bag,
And off she goes, on the dirty track, on a busy Delhi morning.
People will stare, and she will smile, and go jumping, hip-hop, hip-hop,
Flakes of dirt will fall away from her face,
And she will become new, as new as her bag.
But if my money was really worth that all,
Why, I would have rolled a joint, and smoked it up,
Get the ecstasy, the happiness, of that little girl,
And passed it around, spreading the joy, the love,
Puked it up, and went to sleep, dreaming of the little girl.

The National Literacy Trust in Britain
did a survey and
- yes, you guessed -
57% read 'only a bit' or not at all
and 25% of the older ones said
they had no intention to
read any more than this
So what do they read when
they read?
Well, mags,
and websites
and txt msgs of course
and jokes,
and TV books and mags
and e-mails
and eighth on the list comes fiction
that's made-up stories, right?
right
then comix ninth
then newspapers well
they're just for people
who don't have TV and
don't mind waiting 12 hours
to read the news put that tenth
what's that? poetry?
sorry would you spell that
oh poetry nah
girls said, they read
to find out how other people live
and feel and
to help them understand
more about themselves
boys said, they read
because they have to and
because it helps them
get a job so
some old farts might say
put up a sign
civilisation's postponed until further notice
but it may all work out
well it'll have to

News
The books have us in the binding,
Powerful pages resound in the waters;
A clever trick is employed by the wise,
Ghosts of strength dabble with the mind.
The books are volumes so bright,
Force shall embark on a quest;
The middle of the street is a foreign element,
Litter stains the streets like a silver jubilee.
Like us when we strive towards other islands,
Of nations and tribes we know of and about;
The knowledge is about, the knowledge has arrived
Of a type called News, the simplest routine.

Three Wives Of A Mandarin
Lawful wife.
There is still some wine left in the chalice,
And the plate that’s served is nests of the swallows.
Since the birth of time, the legal spouse
Is respected by her mandarin-husband.
Concubine
There is still some wine left in the chalice,
And the plate is served – duck: fat and heavy;
Should a mandarin be deprived of children -
Concubine is needed for a mandarin.
Maid
There is still some wine left in the chalice,
And the plate is served - preserves and marmalade.
Why the two of you are in his house?
Every night a new woman he desires.
Mandarin
There is no more wine left in the chalice,
And the plate that’s served is hot red pepper.
Silence! O you: bunch of silly blabbers,
Dare you laughing at the poor old mandarin.
