Epistle To An Old Friend

You are a doctor now - I've heard
A colourful glass jar
Your figure
With a dedicative label
Of service to the sick and the suffering.

I've heard
Your dreams have come true
The waning, waxing moons
Of quaint wishes
We saw together
Have blossomed to fullness.
Away and beyond
In lands overseas
All chapters of your book
Of youthful ambitions
Have come to be written.

I've heard
You have got all you ever
Wished for, desired.
All ideals realized.
A higher academic degree
Fame, renown and status
A pretty home
A loving husband - and children!

Salutations
Best wishes
For all th' laurels won
All that you've done.

But O my Messiah
Of long-forgotton woes!
Did you ever give
A backward glance?

The time-worn memory album
Was always there to see
Faces, friendly and faithful
Dust-laden though
In the pledges of everlasting rememberance.

What lenses
Of remorse
Will ever reveal visages of past?
How'll you ever
Bridge the empty spaces
Rolling from dreams
To eyes - and beyond?
How'll you ever
Put soothing balm
On your self-afflicted wounds?

Fifty Years Apart

They sit in the winter gloaming,
And the fire burns bright between;
One has passed seventy summers,
And the other just seventeen.

They rest in a happy silence
As the shadows deepen fast;
One lives in a coming future,
And one in a long, long past.

Each dreams of a rush of music,
And a question whispered low;
One will hear it this evening,
One heard it long ago.

Each dreams of a loving husband
Whose brave heart is hers alone;
For one the joy is coming,
For one the joy has flown.

Each dreams of a life of gladness
Spent under the sunny skies;
And both the hope and the memory
Shine in the happy eyes.

Who knows which dream is the brightest?
And who knows which is the best?
The sorrow and joy are mingled,
But only the end is rest.

Something Dismissed Should Be Retrieved

Those wants and wishes have materialized,
Right before their eyes.
And that which has been stated not wished,
Appears with no disguise.

And arguments heard occur to travel...
Faster than a speeding bullet,
Shot from an opened mouth.
With a twisting of facts...
From there to an ear for all to hear.
Whispered behind most backs.

What consciousness is this?
When complaints like this exist.
Those wants and wishes have materialized.
Why is it they now resist.

Something dismissed should be retrieved.
Yet what has been dismissed,
Has allowed those wants and wishes...
To appear!
But not wanted.
And now claimed...
Not wished.

Far Fetched

I wish to see the flag fly high
and never at half mast.
I wish to see the world at peace
and not repeat the past.

I wish to hear the bugler play
his morning reveille
and never hear the sound of taps
from war's sad memory.

I wish to see all fields of battle
come to life again
and filled with penitent faces
that bring hatred to an end.

Wishes are wishes.
Dreams are dreams
and usually come apart
at the seams,
but I still wish anyway.

Illusions In G Major

On the seven seas there was aphantom ship acoming,
Shinin in the dead of night,
I heard the crew a hummin
Tunes that sounded like the rolling stones and leonard cohen.
But they didnt know the words,
So I assumed that they was foreign.
Chorus
But I heard them just the same doctor let me teach em,
I just wanna please em, doctor let me teach em.
I looked up in the sky there was a phantom plane a comin,
Shinin in the dead of night,
I heard the pilot saying,
Poems that were written by john keats and robert browning.
But he didnt know the words so,
I suppose that it was nothing.
Chorus
But I heard them just the same doctor let me teach em,
I just wanna please em, doctor let me teach em.
Doctor please believe me, I know you wont decieve me,
But do these things Im seein, have any hidden meaning.
Its all good entertainment and it doesnt cost a penny.
So please doc, let me teach em, if I could only reach em.
Chorus
But I heard them just the same doctor let me teach em,

Diwali

They saw and heard
The sparklers
Burning bright.

They saw and heard
The rockets
Zipping past the night.

They saw and heard
The fountains going
Whoosh!

They saw and heard
The various aerial
Displays that lit up
The night sky with
Their colourful arrays.

And you ask me, dear
What all fireworks
I saw and heard? !

I was so entranced seeing
You making love to me
With your eyes,
Telling me in what all ways,
You love me,
How often you miss me…
All the colours of Diwali
Sparkled before my eyes!
I just saw and heard - you,
You and only you, your love
For me…making my Diwali!

In A Glass House

I've seen love
I've seen hate
I've seen all the emotion god creates.
I've seen good
I've seen bad
I've seen everything that you could ever have.
I've seen you
I've seen me
I've seen everything that i could want to be.
I've seen tall things
I've seen long things
I've seen everything a man was meant to see.
No one came,
No one is here
No one remembers.
Makes cambodia look like kansas,anytime
I've heard truth
I've heard lies
I've heard everything that ever crossed your mind.
I've heard( lust?)
I've heard screams
I've heard everything that makes you give up dreams.
I've heard you
I've heard me
I've heard everything i wish that( ****?) ever be
I've heard music, new heroes
Then i've heard some things i really wouldn't know
(***** ***** ***** ?)
Look in my heart
You will remember
People came
You (fell?) on me
I can remember
Makes cambodia look like kansas,anytime
I break hearts
I broke mine
I'll break everything i'm given if( ***?) time
I've said things i don't mean
I could lie in front of god and he'll beleive
I (cheat?)( ***?)
I (cheat?) time
I'll take everything you see
And make it mine
I don't like this confession
(**** **** ****?) heard( **** ****?) all
Someone came
(we have the cure?)
I'll always wonder
Friends can change
Some go some stay
I can't remember

Dreams of the Modern Youth

The dreams that children have these days
Are weird and rather unusual;
Their dreams could change the human race –
Tho’ virtual and so unreal!

The thoughts of children nowadays,
Are wild and look like almost freaks;
Their minds can do the stellar gaze,
And climb the highest mountain-peaks!

Child-prodigies are often born,
Astounding world in many forms;
The halls of fame, their feats adorn,
Creating intellectual storms!

Most modern youth are on their own;
They have their ambitions in life;
They bother not of things well-known,
And accomplishments that are rife!

Even the baby, one-year old,
Can do much wonders than we think;
Today’s youngsters are brave and bold;
Like famous poets, they can ink!

The world today has changed a lot;
The modern youth is pretty smart;
With ease, it takes the highest slot,
And do things with finesse and art!

Let children do whatever they love;
Adults are there to guide them through;
With time, most youngsters well do prove,
And bring accolades, laurels too!

’Tis time, adults realized that
The modern world is great to live;
Their offspring can do all things but
Some wisdom, elders ought to give!

Allow your children’s dreams come true;
The world is fascinating much;
With freedom, youngsters can well do
All things with splendid, magic touch!

Let youngsters dream their dreams their way;
Adults must goad their achievements;
Let challenges come, come what may,
Let youngsters build new monuments!

Many Moons Ago

This time and in this season,
Many moons ago
I remember having those ambitions,
To possess and impress.
With a wealth of good health,
And youthfulness.

This time and in this season,
Many moons ago
The pace of life seemed a bit slower.
And those with beliefs of it being,
Never too late to pursue dreams
Procrastinated with excuses made.

Dreams,
Whether done day ot night
Have their way of accepting a delay,
Of an appearance to have them touched.
When carrying a basketfull of priorities
To put them off as temporary necessities,
Time will give to see them produced.

This time and in this moment,
As I reflect with an aging process
I have learned to respect
A hesitatiing to put off that which I wish to do.
But not to do them,
Seems to me to be a bit foolish.

Since there is nothing I will sit in waiting,
For an approval to be made.
Or an acceptance to be given.
I've earned that right,
In the seeking to please the life I live.
I have earned that right,
To like or dislike what I choose.

This time and in this moment,
My wishes as they are
Have given me a gratefulness,
To feel blessed and thankful
For a basicness that brings to me the most joy.
That many moons ago I did not know!

Dreams

I have heard that dreams
are good things
when you’re lonely,
but dreams are not only
for the lonely.

Dreams brings meaning
from the depths of the mind
and express wishes, concerns
fears and worries
and sometimes
people meet face to face
with God in their dreams.

60 Second Song For A Bank, With The Words, may We Help You Today?

This song was first released on the aerie album. it is the only album it has been released on.
Oh I love the changing seasons
Green and growing all around
Smiling faces laughing children
Making such a joyful sound
In my dreams I see tomorrow
Time and children of my own
Someone who will stand beside me
Helping me to make ourselves a home
If your eyes can see tomorrow
Though it might seem far away
If you have some dreams to build on
May we help you today

I Hated Those Multiple Choice Questions

Greed has chased their jobs,
And employers overseas.
Outsourcing was the word I heard...
When a few years ago,
I was downsized and released.

And when I heard the word 'downsized',
I didn't think it meant out the door.
And that's when I began to see...
Economics!
And what that term was used for.

Too many debits decreases credits.
And a negative credit,
Needs cash to cover it.
When no cash is there...
The cupboards grow bare.
And my mama taught me that...
When I'd ask for a dollar and she would stare,
'Boy where do you think money comes from?
Out of the blue?
Picked off trees?
Thin air? '

Hmmm...
I hated those multiple choice questions!
I wonder...
Is it 'All' or 'None Above'?
And not a hint on her face as to a clue.

Greed has chased their jobs,
And employers overseas.
Outsourcing was the word I heard...
When a few years ago,
I was downsized and released.

And people are screaming for their lifestyles back!
But I learned very early in my life,
If no cash is to be had...
Wishes and dreams stay right where they are at!
And those delusioned by grandeur need to face the facts.

The Best Deception

I heard about your trip.
I heard about your souvenirs.
I heard about the cool breeze, in the cool nights,
and the cool guys that you spent them with.
Well I guess I should have heard of them from you.
I guess I should have heard of them from you.
Don't you see, don't you see,
that the charade is over?
And all the "Best Deceptions" and "Clever Cover Story" awards go to you.
So kiss me hard
'cause this will be the last time that I let you.
You will be back someday
and this awkward kiss that tells of other people's lips will be of service
to keeping you away.
I heard about your regrets.
I heard that you were feeling sorry.
I heard from someone that you wish you could set things right between us.
Well I guess I should have heard of them from you.
I guess I should have heard of them from you.
I'm waiting for blood to flow to my fingers,
I'll be all right when my hands get warm.
Ignoring the phone, I'd rather say nothing.
I'd rather you'd never heard my voice.
too late to be gracious
and you do not warrant long good-byes.
You're calling too late.

Where Were You?

WHERE WERE YOU?

Where were you,
When your life said
“Disappointment all I endeavor end”?

Where were you,
What do you believe
When you saw your dreams
Were not to be realized
Even your most holy and pure
Most God-loving dreams?

Where were you
When the end came
And ‘no’ was the final word
You heard?

Where were you?
Were you where God
Needed you to be?

Or were you only in your own selfish dream still
Not understanding anything?

Long Time Gone

by Bob Dylan
My parents raised me tenderly,
I was their only son.
My mind got mixed with ramblin'
When I was all so young,
And I left my home the first time
When I was twelve and one.
I'm a long time a-comin', Maw,
An' I'll be a long time gone.
On the western side of Texas,
On the Texas plains,
I tried to find a job o'work
But they said I's young of age.
My eyes they burned when I heard,
"Go home where you belong!"
I'm a long time a-comin',
An' I'll be a long time gone.
I remember when I's ramblin'
Around with the carnival trains,
Different towns, different people,
Somehow they're all the same.
I remember children's faces best,
I remember travelin' on.
I'm a long time a-comin',
I'll be a long time gone.
I once loved a fair young maid
An' I ain't too big to tell,
If she broke my heart a single time,
She broke it ten or twelve.
I walked and talked all by myself,
I did not tell no one.
I'm a long time a-comin', babe,
An' I'll be a long time gone.
Many times by the highwayside,
I tried to flag a ride.
With bloodshot eyes and gritting teeth,
I'd watch the cars roll by.
The empty air hung in my head
I's thinkin' all day long.
I'm a long time a-comin',
An' I'll be a long time gone.
You might see me on your crossroads
When I'm a-passin' through.
Remember me how you wished to
As I'm a-driftin' from your view.
I ain't got the time to think about it,
I got too much to get done.
Well, I'm a long time comin'
An' I'll be a long time gone.
If I can't help somebody
With a word or song,
If I can't show somebody
They are travelin' wrong.
But I know I ain't no prophet
An' I ain't no prophet's son.
I'm just a long time a-comin'
An' I'll be a long time gone.
So you can have your beauty,
It's skin deep and it only lies.
And you can have your youth,
It'll rot before your eyes.
Just give to me my gravestone
With it clearly carved upon:
"I's a long time a-comin',
An' I'll be a long time gone.

For Mum

Dear mom,

I heard ppl growing old and die
but noone told me you would

Now you'd left me stranded unabide
The familiar privillege i used to adore
The perfect faith i had for life
Has become remorsed in a sigh

I heard times flies so fast and wait for noone
But nobody said i'll be run out of it

Way long back with yr endless sincerity
Yr flawless devotion last longer than yr wedding ring
Yr perfect guidance through my childhood to motherhood
All are worth thousand of fairy stories

I heard sweet memory will bring joy
But noone told me it cost tears of loosing

Never ceased display yr love &passion
The small precious things like friendly chat over dinner
The great support through all moment like waiting up on my first date
carved a colorful tatoo in my heart

I heard there's a time for everything
But nobody told me everything takes time

How the time transformed yr strong will into miracle
The tiny fragile kids you brought up in pain
The mature figure you hold with proud smile
You had strive to give us things that shall not perish, yr loving life

Thank you mom

The Nightingale

(jude johnstone)
Yesterday I thought that I walked alone
And that love was just a memory
But a nightingale followed me back home
And my love was waiting there for me
I had lost my faith as lovers often do
When the storm clouds gather overhead
But the nightingale sang a note so true
That I knew Id lost my fear instead
And to think that I said love was for fools
And that time would never heal these old wounds
But the nightingale saved a prayer for me
In the twilight he played a faithful tune
I have heard the lark over in the vale
And Ive heard the lonesome whippoorwill
But the sweetest song is the nightingales
And I know Ill never get my fill

Halsted Street Car

Come you, cartoonists,
Hang on a strap with me here
At seven o’clock in the morning
On a Halsted street car.

Take your pencils
And draw these faces.

Try with your pencils for these crooked faces,
That pig-sticker in one corner—his mouth—
That overall factory girl—her loose cheeks.

Find for your pencils
A way to mark your memory
Of tired empty faces.

After their night’s sleep,
In the moist dawn
And cool daybreak,
Faces
Tired of wishes,
Empty of dreams.

The Skin Game

You're welcome to fame
You're welcome to try
I've been on tv, sold my face to you
You're welcome to love
You're welcome to me
I burned my dream, sold my heart, nobody knew
Listen children
I've seen my future
Call it the deadline for now
I've heard secrets
I've heard excuses
I've heard a voice in the dark
You're waiting for me
You've made a mistake
I'll give you nothing but lies, or nothing at all
I'm playing a game
I'm playing with you
I call it shameful, 'the skin game,' don't you?
You're playing it cold
(ripping it up)
You're playing for time
(i don't like pictures)
You're breaking my rules and i won't let you go
I'm looking for you
(welcome to me)
Somebody screamed
(it's no use talking)
I've connections with god. what do you need?
Lost in junk sick
No sleep no motion
She said 'he's nothing to lose'
Love sick? skin game
Welcome to romance
She's like the heart of the world
I'm still breathing
Welcome to my house
I'd steal from god, wouldn't you?
One more question
Am i in danger?
Rumours. and i've got the fear
Looking for you
Is it any wonder?
Tearing it up
Living on empty

Blue Lit Clouds

How my mind travels
And longs to be among the stars,
With the blue lit clouds
Surrounding me,
As I listen to all the wishes
That has been wished upon each star,
And only hope that they may be fulfilled,
Because everyone deserves fulfillment
Within their lives
To reassure themselves
That there is still hope to be sought,
And there is still time
That their wish can be fulfilled,
But not because of some higher power,
But simply because
They believe it can happen
And they have found
The strength to believe
In themselves and with that strength
Were able to fulfill their wish
On their own and on their own doing,
Because they now know in order
To fulfill themselves,
All they have to do is
Fulfill their wish,
Which they wished upon a star
One night when everything
Seemed less than they wanted,
When they realised
They can be more than they were then,
And after this sudden revelation
They wished,
They wish upon a star.
Which is why my mind travels
And longs to be among the stars
Because each star, to me,
Represents all the dreams and wishes
Of all the people on Earth,
And it fulfills my wish,
Which I wished long ago
On a star high in the blue lit sky
That I may never be alone.

Lost

Walked home tonight through the streets
Where we all came of age
Buildings still the same but the faces
Now seem so strange
Though its been so many years
Since I saw your face
I still think about you all the time
But you left no trace
Where are you now?
Do you have somebody to love you?
Where are you now?
Could it be that you're thinking about me too
I'd give anything to see you again
I'd give anything to see you again
No-one else
Could come close
To your Memory
I'd give anything to see you again
Do you still believe in the Faith
That burned inside of us
Is your soul like a stone like our friends
Eroded to dust
Though it's been so many years
Since I heard your voice
One question still remains
Did you make the choice?
This town has watched us rise and fall
To famine and to fame
Won't gain the World to lose my soul
Could you still say the same?
