Rain

It rains on the redwood
that cover the mountain
The bark of them glistens
and darkens upon them.
I know the rain gladdens
The heart of the redwood
their branches all burdened
with numberless gems.

But what would they think, now,
these trees, if they knew
that the water they drink
was a poisonous brew
and the drops that accrue
to the needles and cling
were soon to undo them
and earthward-ward bring?

Oh, the forests are whispering
over all the vast land
'We are poisoned, O brothers
by poisonous hands.
Our children are sickened
and the last of our race
are pelted with sulphur
and poisoned apace.

So be mindful, O People
that the earth is an only
descended from father
to progeny born
and cannot be jetted
like the rind of an orange
like the hull of an acorn
for lack of a plan.

So, are...

Rain II

Are we not men, then
my sisters and brothers?
and can't we be mending
our false ways and errors?
Must greed and sad lucre
be sail and be tiller
chart the course of the future?
Say 'no', oh say 'never'

For the forests are whispering
'We are poisoned, oh, brethren,
by treacherous hands, and
our children are sickened
and the last of our races
are withered with sulphur
and perish apace.

the barks of them glisten

Redwood Tree

Boy and his dog
Went out looking for the rainbow
You know what did they learn
Since that very day
Walking by the river
And running like a blue streak
Through the fields of streams and meadows
Laughing all the way
Oh redwood tree
Please let us under
When we were young we used to go
Under the redwood tree
And it smells like rain
Maybe even thunder
Wont you keep us from all harm
Wonderful redwood tree
And a boy and his father
Went out, went out looking for the lost dog
You know what oh havent they learned
Since they did that together
They did not bring him back
He already had departed
But look at everything they have learned
Since that, since that very day
Oh redwood tree
Please let us under
When we were young we used to go
Under the redwood tree
And it smells like rain
Maybe even thunder
Wont you keep us from all harm
Wonderful redwood tree
Ta da da da...

Dad

The two Gibraltars in the yard
never were delivered.
They have always been there.
The twenty years I lived there

the neighbors never said a word.
Their shrieks would shatter both
if they could see them.
The redwood fence my father built

is tall enough to cover his.
It will be tall enough, he swears,
in time to cover mine.
My father says before he dies

he'll sell his own Gibraltar
and leave the house, the yard,
the redwood fence to me
to guarantee that I keep mine.

Poisonous Land.

Asked Your heavenly treasures,
Asked for a right licensed,
Asked simply your birth right,
Your license its mean - to have mixed,
Mixed with specialties of different kinds,
Possibly, known and known.

Poisonous land,
Precious indeed,
Poisonous land,
Holy Indeed,
Poisonous Land,
Beauty Indeed,
Poisonous Land.

I pray for good food,
Good food at morning hour,
Good Food at noon hour,
Good food at night hour,
Even at midnight hour,
I pray for divine cleanness,
I pray for holy spirit...

Poisonous land,
Precious indeed,
That's you are!
Heavy to deliver,
Night be deadly,
Night be an horrors' beauty,
For dogs does not bark for nothing,
Must stated and a statement!
Poisonous land.....

Light definitely ablaze darkness,
Despite snow white and blood red still,
Brevity a watch word,
An assignment,
Poisonous land,
I pray for deliverance,
I pray for divine light,
Poisonous land.

Redwood Hill

I climbed the redwood hill
Twas on a rainy day
To rise above the throng
And talk with mother nature for a while
She told me of her love
For the children in her trust
And of her grave concern
For the likes of you and me and us
Crying thought she was
She did speak these tender words
The things that I am
I could not change for any man
I tried to comfort her
Ah but she would not be still
And how the rain did fall
As I found my way back down the redwood hill
Crying though she was
She did speak these tender words
The things that I am
I would not change for any man
I tried to compfort her
Ah but she would not be still
Ill not forget that day
When mother nature cried on redwood hill
Ill not forget that day
When mother nature cried on redwood hill.

Poisoned Rose

The poisoned rose
That you gave to me
It left me half alive
And half in ecstasy
But if half of your love
Is all I can win
Give me just a fraction
But no more medicine
The poisoned rose
On a valentine card
That you take straight to the heart
That you call my junkyard
But if all I can do
Is save pieces of you
The piece of your mind
The piece of your heart
Didnt tear me apart
Like the poisoned rose
I received from you
I dont know
How we came to grow
Into this very sad affair
Everytime we do the decent thing
Somebody spikes the drink
And a single becomes a pair
The poisoned rose
That you wear at your best
That I keep pressed between the white sheets
Where you lie half undressed
I threw away my shirt and shoes
You looked and I dived in
Its just you and me now
cause I threw away the gin
I threw away your alibis
And all your worn-out clothes
I threw myself upon the floor
But I couldnt throw away
This poisoned rose
This poisoned rose
This poisoned rose

Rain Drops

Here comes the grey clouds
rolling in,
Spreading rain all over the
town.

Rain drops help to moisten
the earth's beautiful green
grass.

Sidewalks once dusty are
washed and cleaned.

Rivers and lakes are given
plenty more water.

Fishes swim around happy
beneath the rain drops,
creating millions of ripples
upon the water.

Flowers and plants no longer
Thirst,
Even trees and bushes seem
to dance after a good drink
of water,
Animals get their fill of
water too.

Just Like a shower,
Rain drops clean and
cleanse everything,
Leaving the earth refreshed
and renewed.

After the storm has passed,
The sun shines spreading its
warmth.

Rain drops that are left behind
on Flowers, plants, trees and
grass,
It is like heaven for many insects
to fill their thirsty little
mouths.

Without clouds we would have no
rain drops,
Without rain drops everything would
never be the same.

A Naked Snake

Tree wound
Earth ground
Hissing and biting
Its own tongue
Its own tail
Changing its skin
Sky flung
House burdened snail
In the traces of the wet curse left
Wrapped in red lace lobster cleft
Creeping the bottom of the original fall
Poisonous curves wound within all
A bit of poison turns into a bit of the cure
Wound within a knot of circles of the sin
Reaching high above the realms of the pure
Curable disease of its own medicine
Bitter taste poisoned blood shivering in mud

On a Line from Valéry (The Gulf War)

The whole green sky is dying. The last tree flares
With a great burst of supernatural rose
Under a canopy of poisonous airs.

Could we imagine our return to prayers
To end in time before time's final throes,
The green sky dying as the last tree flares?

But we were young in judgement, old in years
Who could make peace; but it was war we chose,
To spread its canopy of poisoning airs.

Not all our children's pleas and women's fears
Could steer us from this hell. And now God knows
His whole green sky is dying as it flares.

Our crops of wheat have turned to fields of tares.
This dreadful century staggers to its close
And the sky dies for us, its poisoned heirs.

All rain was dust. Its granules were our tears.
Throats burst as universal winter rose
To kill the whole green sky, the last tree bare
Beneath its canopy of poisoned air.

This Land Is Your Land

Well I rode that ribbon highway
I saw above me the endless sky
I saw below me the golden valley
This land was made for you and me
Ive roamed and rambled and followed my footsteps
Through the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was calling
This land was made for you and me
This land is your land
This land is my land
From california
To the new york island
From the redwood forest
To the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me
Well the sun came shining and I was strolling
Through wheat fields waving and dust clouds rolling
And a voice was sounding
As the fog was lifting
Saying this land was made for you and me
This land is your land
This land is my land
From california
To the new york island
From the redwood forest
To the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me

For Those Who Grieve

no one
no one can really stop you
from eating the bark of the tree
the thick skin of the
fruit

no one can tell you what should have
been proper
or better

you like the skin and you throw away
the fruit that could have
satisfied your
thirst and hunger

the bark has poisoned you
the moon has warned you too well
the worm is wriggling
its frail and elongated
body

you have no ears
your sense of smell so badly damaged

and now you
are dying

no one tells you that life is as sweet
as the ripe fruit of the tree
that luscious flesh that flowing
juice

your gaze is sharp as a knife
stabbing even the
sun

and you are always right

what you have been searching
that can satisfy your hunger and thirst
is not found on the fruit
not even in the tree

it is in the poisonous bark
that useless skin
that silly coat

definitely it is not even here
where we are all grieving

The Black Roses

Yesterday morn we blossomed,
With the brave show of colours,
And shades dark, deep and dim,
Combined with fresh tenderness;
In long rows along the highway,
The vehicles passed by swishing,
No one stopped to praise the petals,
To compare to the fairness of the face,
And delicacy of the beloved’s lips.

Our fate is worse than the primrose,
Unheeded, whose petals wither unseen,
And die unpraised in the deep thick,
Forest, beside the glimmering stream,
Or tripling, dancing water of the fountain.
We breathed the air smoky and smelly too,
Poisoned with the contents of carbon,
Black, unpurified water was sprinkled,
To take, adulterated and impure light,
Through hazy spheres came upon us.
Though we lived a day and a night,
And another day too, now before the sunset,
We discern the difference between the times,
We were born and the moments of departure,
Impurities of the world marred our grace,
Beauty, tenderness and splendour too,
Now we are all black,
Not because we are the black roses:
A very rare specie, that tempts the eyes,
That enchants, exalts the hearts,
We are black for we sucked the sooty air,
And nourished with the black, contaminated
Poisoned, carbonized water, that now runs
Through our veins, and black fumes,
Have settled upon the beds of petals:
The olden seats of the dew drops.
Oh! Inhabitants of the world, be happy ever more,
Though you fed us with poisonous air, polluted water,
Yet we emitted fragrance; dissolving petty existence,
To prove our trivial worth that we possessed.

When the rain drops fall on my head...

When the rain drops fall on my head
Then I feel the greatness of the nature
When the heat on earth vaporized
Then the clouds above makes the rain

When the rain drops fall on my head
Then I see the farmers are full of cheers
When the rain water roll on the ground
Then all the barren lands turns to green

When the rain drops fall on my head
Then I see the rain water runs down the mountains
When the rain water preserved in the built dam
Then there is no poverty on the land

When the rain drops fall on my head
Then I know the God sends it for us
When we do not go against the nature
Then the rain drops fall on the earth for ever

Autumn Crocuses

The meadow is poisonous but pretty in the autumn
The cows that graze there are slowly poisoned
Meadow-saffron the colour of lilac and of shadows
Under the eyes grows there your eyes are like those flowers
Mauve as their shadows and mauve as this autumn
And for your eyes' sake my life is slowly poisoned

Children from school come with their commotion
Dressed in smocks and playing the mouth-organ
Picking autumn crocuses which are like their mothers
Daughters of their daughters and the colour of your eyelids
Which flutter like flowers in the mad breeze blown

The cowherd sings softly to himself all alone
While slow moving lowing the cows leave behind them
Forever this great meadow ill flowered by autumn

Why Negroes Don't Unite

Why of all the many races in the country where we live,
Do we find so little union as the Negro race can give?
Is it lack of love? or color? who will give the reason true,
Why they cherish opposition more than other peoples do?

We'll examine for a moment, how the Negro race is made,
Now, we find them all complexions, any hue and ev'ry shade,
Scraps of all the human races in among them we can find,
All the many dispositions, ev'ry nation of its kind.

Ev'ry tribe will hang together, though among the Negroes found,
Which will bring about dissensions, on all questions that abound,
Ev'ry blood must have a 'say so,' red or yellow, white or black,
Differ always in opinion, racial union always lack.

Hark! the whites of this assembly to a special plan agree,
Lo! the red men now are holding their opinion, don't you see?
Aye, the blacks must have a hearing in the question of today,
Yellow folks compose a factor and the same will have a say.

Scripture tells how Ham was tickled by the shame of Noah's plight,
How his brothers with a mantle shielded Noah from the light,
Now we find that Ham's descendants keep disgraces well exposed,
While the children of the others keep a shameful secret closed.

From inheritance the Negro gets his levity and mirth,
More than any other species of the races of the earth,
He rejoices in reporting what will bring his neighbor shame,
Charity extends her mantle and the others cover blame.

When the race discards the fragments, by the others thrown aside,
And suppresses altogether sinful levity and pride,
Then begins a cultivation of a union of the race,
That will strengthen all its borders which for naught will yield apace.

Here to Bark You

I'm here to bark you.
With a not too thick protecterate.
Enclosing you to allow you growth.
To allow your branches,
To reach with leaves.

I've done the pines,
With their needles to prick.
I've done the birch,
To have them stand out...
For an easy search.

The oak and maple were not difficult for me.
The redwoods were the ones,
To reach as high as the eye could see!
Towers and the tallest on Earth,
They chose to be!

I'm here to bark you.
With a not too thick protecterate.
Enclosing you to allow you growth.
To allow your branches,
To reach with leaves.

I'm here to bark you...
Trees, woody vines and shrubs.

Whose Fault?

Drilling the bark happily singing too.
Cutting the trunk happily singing too.
Bark to bark the wood-pecker goes.
Next and next the cutting he does.
Happy bird turns into a crying struggler
Victorious cutter is still happier

The deprived bird and the slain trees
Throw a curse over the man for no life.
There happens a turn of drought
On the land forests being totally without.
No rain and life becomes lifeless.
Man preys on even beasts

Beastlike himself indeed, the wild
Cuts down his own race - be it old or child
Mother or other brutally killed and preyed
The land wounded with ichor oozing
Putrid stink everywhere nauseating
Soil becoming rusted with blood
Mother Earth to burst now of whose fault?
