A Simple Awakening
Birdsong. From no lone singer but multitudes-
Breaching the shutters, the curtain's hem
Choristers of indeterminate hue, because viewless-
Canzone spilling over the sill,
A tree branched with pure gold, doubtless, their oratory,
Casting a silver shadow.
Another perfect day. Like someone still with air aplenty
Launched, flutter-kicking, from the floors of sleep
Through quivering blue toward a shimmering scrim
He cannot see past, I glide-
The distance not so great, no need to hurry.
Golden-that is the morning
I must enter, eventually, reluctantly.
Sleep was nice and full of visitor fishes, who
Vanish when you try to feed or obligate them in any way
But this is, after all, the novel day
Full of choices-chances to improve the past and
Tool the future.
You, who from above observe my passage
Through fathoms and smile elegantly when
My lives, tired of sighing, burst exhausted through the top,
Issuing invitations to breathe your empyrean,
Look, I am more than for it-
Look, I am awake.

Dedicated to ppl who dont sleep
Sleep, sleep, sleep
It’s magnificent and nice,
With dreams beyond wonder,
Sleep! sleep! sleep!
Sleep, sleep, sleep
Eyes tightly closed,
A little smile on you r cheeks,
Feeling the ambiance
Of the pure and precious sleep,
Sleep! sleep! sleep!
Sleep, sleep, sleep
Forgetting insane things of the mixed world outside
Relax my dear, feel the gentle breeze,
Do not worry about tomorrow, do not weep,
Wake up fresh in the morning with a recuperate mind,
Fresh and blessed with a wonderful sleep,
SLEEP, SLEEP, SLEEP!

Every Morning's Mourning.
Watch you sleep
Dream and roll over
avoid the monsters
and the light
Watch you sleep
Watch you sleep
when the noise
of fifteen
floors above you
crashes in
and wraps you deeper
in your sheets
Watch you sleep
Watch you sleep
through every squeak
and smash and ping
as I serenade you
with my awake
and my breakfast
Watch you sleep
Watch you sleep
with a half-turned
smile on your face
an exposed and naked leg
your hair escaping you
like spilling starlight
Watch you sleep
Watch you sleep
when I kiss
the tiniest sample
of skin on your cheek
and know you wake
when I'm gone
and am gone
until again you sleep
When you wake
Watch you wake
Watch you sleep

I Thought You Are Asleep My Dear Friend
two o'clock in the morning
snow must be colder and thicker
but your eyes are awake
like an empty basin still
wanting to be full of the
day's warm air, but my dear
you need sleep and you
must now sleep and be
with your colored dreams
they shall speak like friends
with gossamer wings,
and some will be like jokers
and princes, and princesses
sleep now my dear friend,
you need them to guide you
what poem to write next
when another morning breaks
again in the shutters of your mind.
sleep now, step into the world
of magic, the garden of fantasy.
who knows someone so lovely
waits for you there, saying hey!

Melancholy Song
A melancholy song plays
reversing the future to the past
along a wasteland
of invisible dotted lines
filled with haunted pits
where no one should ever enter.
From a future full of promise
to a past full of uncertainty
where the weeping willow sways
under a mournful wind
as the melancholy song
drags the past to the future
so misery can rein again.

Feeling Sick
It’s that groggy feeling of snot clogging up your brain
Spilling out your nose
Running out your ears
And coming out of your eyes as tears.
You’re faint and sick
Fragile and yuck
Fighting to stay awake
Feeling really stuck
Feeling faint and tired
Wanting to go to bed
Fighting the eyelids
To stay alert
Trying to look past the curtain of drugs
to act like normal
with feeling; not being numb
the drugs kick in
and you feel really tired
fighting it's worse
and you're really exhausted
This is the feeling of being sick.

Silver And Gold
Silver, silver and gold
Silver and gold, silver and gold
Ev'ryone wishes for silver and gold
How do you measure its worth?
Just by the pleasure it gives here on earth.
Silver and gold, silver and gold
Mean so much more when I see
Silver and gold decorations
On ev'ry Christmas tree.
Silver, silver and gold
Silver, silver and gold
Silver and gold
Silver and gold
Silver and gold
Wise men brought gifts to the mange I'm told
Mary was humble to see
Shepherds and kings there on bended knees
It's silver and gold, silver and gold
Feeling the world with their lives
Silver and gold how they shimmer on ev'ry Christmas night
On ev'ry Christmas night
Silver, silver and gold

Back To The Sunrise
Still crazed, sugar glazed
I refuse to act my age
I can be cool, I can believe
Happy to be here
When can I leave, when can I leave
All that I hope for, all that I need
The back of the closet the air that I breathe
My souls on cruise control
Happily ever after, nobody knows Im gone, Im gone
Back to the sunrise, nothing to lose
Keep me at a distance I can use
Outside our future is yawning
Wide awake, but ready to sleep all day
Ready to be confused, with a distance I can use
Ready to be confused, with a distance I can use
Spit glazed, riding a wave
My body will never behave
Cross eyed, I more than survive
A little bit further from the back of the line
Each time, each time
Back to the sunrise, nothing to lose
Keep me at a distance I can use
Outside out future is yawning
Wide awake, but ready to sleep all day
Ready to be confused, with a distance I can use
Let me be confused, give me distance I can use

Presence A Myth
Past tells presence
And presence passes it
To the envied future
But this myth goes on
As there is no
Such a thing as present
Today is past
And tomorow is future
But when the sun rise
It is all declared a past
For every second I breathe
For every minute I live
I declare all that past
And so i live it behind
But for every morning
I await
That is where the future is
And for every morning
I live behind
That is where the past lies
There's no presence

The Cooking Pot
our cooking pot is not made of porcelain
or silver or gold but it is made of the mud
of this earth
hardened by time and fire and too much
waiting
our patience consumed
our waiting had been too long about this cooking
pot, earthen
where we put all our dreams and cook them
like rice
porridge, all of our dreams
fired by the woods of our reminiscence
our longings our loneliness our daily concerns
our future wishes
and then when the time comes to open
and see and smell what rice porridge is
we say we like it we say we love it
only to be repulsed by this visitor in the house
'this is not cooking! This is not good! ' and he stares at us
and says, we need more fire, more wood, more time
to have the perfect porridge
i went out unable to stand this hunger
unable to see what this visitor says
it is our fault we allowed him in
we open our doors and windows and let him sleep in our room
as we lay on the floors and keep ourselves on the stairs.
'this is too much' i said.
'he must leave this house at once' i told you.
this is our pot. this is our porridge. this is our cooking.
and we must eat. we must love what we have.
'get out of my house' i said.
and then i am relieved from an opression.
i am happier now. My pot is earthen. Its bottom is sooty black.
i am blue. And i do not really mind.
This is my porridge. You may take it, if you like.

Maria's Lullaby
An extract from a poem written for my grandchildren to Brahms Lullaby
Sleep; little mice sleep
Mother will watch over you
Shut your eyes and don't peek
Tomorrow the skies will be blue
Sleep; little mice sleep.
Sleep; little mice sleep
No harm will come whilst I am here
The sun has gone down by the peak
When the day dawns it will appear
Sleep; little mice sleep.
Sleep; little mice sleep
Your father is watching the house
That no owl or cat dares to seek
Harm to creatures or mouse
Sleep; little mice sleep.
Sleep; little mice sleep
Tomorrow you run and play
Now is not time to speak
When you awake a new day
Sleep; little mice sleep.
Sleep; little mice sleep
Rest now for your own sake
Shut your eyes now be asleep
I will be here when you awake
Sleep; little mice sleep.

Swoon
I cannot sleep
When my mind is running
Faster than my will to sleep
And I'm far too busy weeping
To find solace in simply sleeping
I cannot sleep
When fears of the future
And tears of the past
Burden my head
And I'm far too busy weeping
To find solace in simply sleeping
I cannot sleep
When hope for the future
And letting go of the past
Is more exciting than a dream
In calm repose
Only darkness flows
I cannot sleep
When nightmares
Instill shock and horror in me
And I'm far too busy weeping
To find solace in simply sleeping
Staring so long at the silver moon
Insomnia loses and I simply swoon

Go To Sleep
Theres a shadow on the terrace / a snow dance for the living /
Theres heavy weather on the way / I heard it on the news.
And lifes a tough principal who wont reward the losers /
Your name is on the tea-cup / theres nothing I can do.
But to wish youd think about me before you go to sleep /
And I wish you the best there is before you go to sleep.
There are tears without the colour / a million seas with water /
An ocean full of people where shattered hearts can go.
And loves a golden ripple where answers are so simple /
But the explanations are very hard to do.
And I wish youd think about me before you go to sleep /
And I wish you the best there is before you go to sleep / go to sleep.

Nightfall
Let me sleep. The day is past,
And the folded shadows keep
Weary mortals safe and fast.
Let me sleep.
I am all too tired to weep
For the sunlight of the Past
Sunk within the drowning deep.
Treasured vanities I cast
In an unregarded heap.
Time has given rest at last.
Let me sleep.

Wrinkles that Shows
letting the years goes, holding the age that flows;
a perfect stay of each smile makes the past remember
that the future comes is another say of goodbye
laughter bridge the weak, the butterfly awake and
every dew’s darling merge, as beauty’s reflect into
thy forever dawning missed
nay! come and touch my sweet hello, squabble the
wandering dragonfly stray, hey! the way is near to
the pond you sleep, just a little foot the wings could
fly
say as you come and may the ageless waiting gallops
my whole moment of waiting and hold my prayer of
each passing day comes to sleep with me
till, i’ll wake my New beginning …….

Waiting
Magdalen’s grounds
are full of life,
full of space.
Space, which is mown
and cleared,
tended and enclosed,
its waterways unchoked,
brown and sparkling clear.
It is home to ducks
and coots,
to dragonflies and deer.
Grass and paths and gates
and streams
and yesterday’s undergraduates
are waiting.
Not for the return of the past
nor the coming of an awaited future.
The past once gone
is a steadily fading photograph.
The future, once conceived,
is never as imagined.
No. They wait
for someone
with an empty heart
to play his part
without reluctance
or reserve;
to acknowledge
all this labour
of hand and eye
and the genius of the green and living.
To see
and bless
it all
and say, “Yes! ”
Then it can all begin,
the breathing out of being,
the eternal sigh,
the letting go at last
and surrender
to the sleep
of not being planned,
of not having to remember,
of not having to hold apart
future and past.
Of being at peace again.

Neal And Jack And Me
I'm wheels, I am moving wheels
I am a 1952 studebaker coupe
I'm wheels, I am moving wheels moving wheels
I am a 1952 starlite coupe...
En route.....les Souterrains
Des visions du Cody...Sartori a Paris...
Strange spaghetti in this solemn city...
There's a postcard we're all seen before...
Past wild-haired teens in dark clothing
With hands-full of autographed napkins we
eat apples in vans with sandwiches ... rush
Into the lobby life of hurry up and wait
Hurry up and wait for all the odd-shaped keys
Which lead to new soap and envelopes...
Hotel room homesickness on a fresh blue bed
And the longest-ever phone call home.....no
Sleep no sleep no sleep no sleep and no mad
Video machine to eat time... a cityscene
I can't explain, the Seine alone at 4am
The Seine alone at 4a.....Neal and Jack and me
Absent lovers, absent lovers...

PDA
yours is the only version of my desertion that I could ever subscribe to
that is all that I can do
you are a past dinner the last winner I'm raking all around me
until the last drop is behind you
you're so cute when you're frustrated, dear
you're so cute when you're sedated, dear
i'm resting
sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tonight, sleep tonight, sleep tonight, sleep tonight
you are the only person who's completely certain there's nothing here to be into
that is all that you can do
you are a past sinner, the last winner and everything we've come to
makes you you
and you cannot safely say while I will be away
that you will not consider sadly how you hurt me this free
you will not reach me I am resenting a position that is past resentment now I can consider now there is this distance so
sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tight, grim right, we have two hundred couches
where you can sleep tonight, sleep tonight, sleep tonight, sleep tonight
something to say
something to do
nothing to say
when there's nothing to do
