When I was a tree
within the twiligth beside the willows
I stood the light
with the hope almost dying
under the fingertips
I marked by a sunbeam path
the circles of time around my neck
when I was a tree
deep down in the root
the strength of my growth was squatted
it weaved the web of a beginning
under a rough core the trunk
sucked in all the water of a dawn
within the bare boughs there nested
a prayer of mine for the end
the leaves like mirrors reflected the sky

and all the movements were there within
the flight of a bird around my treetop
an aureole of the sun high up

Picaro turns her face towards the sun
…chameleon like chiseled in a rock rock chained pours the rainbow colours the silent sky reflections where to think is if I was a tree I would turn my leaves to you so that you can mirror yourself in the streams of written currents if I were a butterfly I would turn my wings to you so that you can wing yourself in warmth from the hands an embrace to you if I had hands I would repeat the digging up of the wells which your light has not as yet reached if I was the light I would be faster than a thought if I had a thought from you I would make it a gift to the face cut in years towards death if I had a face I would not be a picaro of self an unoverstepped hurdle at the threshold of an entrance…I’ve got nothing.

Streets I have Walked
As I walk the streets of
Ill-fated expectations-
I have often crossed
Over to the other side
Of that street that leads to
Misfortune, and at best
Oblivion-
The streets I have walked before have always
Lead to nowhere-
I hear the sound of footsteps behind me and
Voices speaking in some foreign tongue-
My eyes meet with those of strangers-
Unsmiling and threatening –
I lose myself inside the world of my dreams-
Inside this world I deny access by intruders-
This place I carry with me with each and every step-
I hear thunder and the sound of beating drums
Resonating inside of my mind-
Fearful and suspicious- I break into a run.
In my time I have walked many streets and
Have never found my place in this world
Madly spinning about my own bright star-
As the sun sets, I realize that light is shining hope and peace
Over the street I once believed lead to
Misfortune and oblivion-
In this life I have walked many streets before
Not knowing in which direction or
Where these streets have lead to-
I find myself in the midst of nowhere,
But there is no turning back, as I have
Already crossed over to the other side-
All that I have left is that one bright star to guide me-
Lost inside this world of my thoughts, I wish upon that star
With hope that I may find myself someday-
So I shall keep walking the streets paved before me until
I find the one that reaches my destination-
My guiding light is my inner strength-I now realize and
That light is brighter than the sun or any star and shines with
Every step I walk- and on the day the sun burns out and stars
