Because

because it is like nothing you've read before
because it is anti-valuable, number proof
a too early expression of lucidity or trance moments
because it is not pre-meditated polished or gloved
because it is not readable easily grasped or even hinted at
because it suffers from no small poxes of words stained
because there are to many shades of meaning
that might burden your already overweight mind
because the paper only preserves the whiteness of empty innocence
because you are not asked to care measure or even understand
because there's no charm no high expectations fulfilled
because the reasons will never end
because they have all already ended
try no more read no more
see no more hear no more speak no more
stay beautifully ignorant

Dreaded Requests

I am not a rude or ignorant man,
but there are some things,
that I will not do.
Unfortunately, I do not like
to read a lot of what
I am politely requested to read.
I am often bombarded by people
asking me to read
and comment on their work.
I do not like to be rude
and ignore their pleas,
but I just read what I like,
not what I am asked to read.
I choose whom I like,
if I see a title I find interesting
I will take the time to read it
and make a mental note of the author.
If I like what I read,
I will dip into that author’s work
time and time again.
I do not care if they read my work or not
that is their choice and I have mine.
All I ask is let me make up my own mind.
Do not bombard me with notes
requesting that I read your work,
as I am likely to ignore them.
I am not being rude or ignorant
it is I just do not do requests.

I Like That You Stay

i like that you stay,
for a moment inside my room.

i will ask you, those little things
that you can do for me, so you will stay for a while

so i may have a smell of you
so i may see you even for a few seconds

so i may have life.
i ask you to pull the calendar page. It is not

october anymore. Time flies.
you display me the face of november. a sad one.

a face of uncompromising stance. Not not you. Not your love.
you may refuse my feelings, like the way you resist

some sweeter spaces between us. i like you.
i like you to stay even for a moment.

you flatten a crumpled piece of paper and you ask:
there is still something important on this page.

i look at it. some words, not supposedly written
some words, not to be read by anybody.

you read it. how can you understand?
when i always conceal the meaning

of my pain. i am only for me. I understand the rules
of this game.

i like you to stay really. i like you.
but then, i open the door and then you leave.

you have never understood, the silent beats
of my dying heart.

i like it this way. i touch myself still wanting to touch you.

I read a book

I read a book
Not to enhance my looks

I read a book
Maybe to avoid being a crook

I read a book
Not just to learn how to cook

I read a book
To ascertain how to defend my rights
Not just to acquire knowledge
Reading a book I pledge,
Is one of the roads to the light

I read a book
To understand how a kings territory
Is defended with pieces such as the rook

I read a book
So there will be no questions asked
When I count correctly what you took

I read a book
So that I play not ignorant
Now on life I’ve a different outlook

I read a book
So if I come up with all the right answers
I will know for sure it is not merely a fluke

To Read And Read Again

TO READ AND READ AGAIN

To read and to read again
And to be left empty
By the abundance of words
Whose meanings multiplication
Erases all sense
Of their coherence
And our understanding.

To read and read again
As if in this pretence of learning
Salvation will come
To read and read again
And be forever dumb.

Read My Lips

verbal silence. read my lips.
if you see them.
read the words. read it here.

these words. read them like
flowers in the garden.

these words speak a little.
tips of the iceberg. They are less
compared to the color of my eyes
the warmth of my fingers
the suppressed beatings of my heart.

these words that you read.
if only you can see my lips.
if only you can see my face.
and body, naked on the flowing sheet of
pure paper. IF only you know
what silence means, how emptiness
eats it, if only you know how inferior
verbs and adjectives are
compared to the caresses of the hands
and the tenderness of the fingers,
touch.

read the lines silently.
these words do not shape my lips.

they come to your eyes.
in the silence of your understanding.

never shall they speak
about me. they only talk about

the hands that write sometimes
without any meaning at all.

infinitives are not infinite.
neither do verbs know what is it to be still.
and adjectives talk only about the surface.

deep under, the noise begins.
and silence of the verbs move to another side.
now, the mountains of ideas collapse
and bury the casualties of silence.

Vellum

I write my name down on paper
paper that has a unrealistic desire
to be vellum

I read what I have written
for a sense of authenticity
more authentic than my image
reflected in a mirror stained with mildew
and toothpaste

The words on this paper
anyone can read
bums, whores, addicts,
homosexuals
intellectuals
and the broken old men
whose hope died
in the past

I write
but I don't speak
what I write
details what I see

The things I see
O, the things I see
could invoke suicidal tendencies
in a child who still believes
in Christmas carols
and hunting Moby Dick
whom rules the seas

How tragic it is
to let fleeting imagination
slowly die among the magic spelling
of the words we once spoke
on Christmas Eve

And now I sit
with the adulterated gift
of alcohol
and nicotine
writing down words on paper
whom wish to be vellum
but realistically
could never be

Stevie Smith reading her poems

She was not yet really 'known' -
but asked to read by this small group
of older Jewish refugees and eager youngsters,
talent destined for a fame,
at the tiny Gaberbocchus Press

which did not affect at all
the self-contained aloneness
that walked up the aisle from door to barely stage

and in a clear dry voice neither apology nor hope
read her poems that gave a meaning
to the new word 'throwaway' - they were her,
she read them, threw the invisible sheets away,
and if you caught them as you laughed
which was easier than crying tears,
so be it.

Her voice at the poems' end
was herself: as if, not waving, no, but drowning, neatly,
with a certain acceptance,
in the incomprehensibility of life; she read
as if when the poem ended
you might quickly but quietly rise from your seat
and leave, not rudely but because
there was nothing more to say

Words between words

Words between words
~
I try and say most things subtle
To slip words between words
In the hope you will read and hear
Sometimes I speak with blunt honesty
Sometimes wish I just didn’t speak
Sketching in secret characters
Telling stories built on fantasy
When a subtle look reveals
The obvious biography
Those words between words
What I write, what I speak
I understand words more than people
Words always seem easy
We all have things we wish to say
Some are said, others kept
All that is written then spoken
Are words between words

Your Grave

I alone will stand over your grave
And I will not shed a tear,
I will be both proud and brave
And finally my words you will hear.
You will listen to the words that I speak
And every quote that I have to say,
And this time you will not ignore me
Or from me will you run away.
I will be the only person standing there
As no-one else will care for your passing,
As in my heart for you there once was care
But now its full of remorse and laughing.
I will read for you the many bible quotes
Especially the ones pertaining how you lived,
You will understand how you destroyed hopes
Goodness fell out of you like flour being sieved.
I truly hope that you can hear my voice
As that will be the last time I will speak to you,
Where you spend your eternity that was your choice
And this one outcome you cant undo.
I will look on your gave and give you pity
As pity is all that you acquired in life,
And to think I thought you once were pretty
But you were ugly as a woman, mother and wife.
I look around and your families not there
I guess they decided they had better things to do,
Maybe though you are in their prayers
Or maybe they too didn’t care about you.
Now my speech to you it has ended
In the end I know you could not of been saved,
So many innocents you have used and offended
So now forever, I walk away from your grave.

So, You Think You've Found Me

I am not here
Not in these words
not on these pages.
I know..
You think if you read
Enough
Of what I write
You'll know me inside and out..
One small problem though
(I say this as I smile)
I am no longer
Who I use to be
When I use to be
The 'She' who wrote this..
I don't publish until I've grown
From the poem I use to be
If I was her at all...
Sometimes the 'She' you read
She isn't me at all
But a friend,
Or a story I read in the paper
Or a conversation I overheard..
The she you're looking for
You'd have to confront
Ask her all the tough questions yourself.
I'm not there..
In the tattered old pages
Of the poetry book you love so much..
If you read enough
Maybe you'll get a glimpse of the girl
The fragile creature I use to be..
That innocent thing who believed
In magical things so easily..
She does make an appearance from time to time..
She was very sweet..
The me you seek, you may not find..
I hide even from myself from time to time..
I grow from day to day
Oops! You missed it,
I've already changed.
Now some things, those are constant..
But, they aren't found here
Where you look for me.

Read My Mind

(keith thomas, melissa coleman, todd moore)
A penny for my thoughts you say
You want to know what I could be thinking
But as I speak the music starts to play
And the words just somehow slip away
Chorus:
Read my mind
It will tell you that I love you and
Youre all I ever wanted in a man
Youd see how I feel
What my head wont let my heart reveal
If only you could read my mind
One look from you and look at me
Im trembling like a little girl
I tell myself if I can just believe
Any day now youll fall in love with me
Repeat chorus
Tell me if you feel the same way I do
And tell me that Im not mistakenly taken with you
Youre all I ever wanted in a man
You see, all I need is everything you are to me
If you could somehow read my mind
You would see what I cant seem to say
If only you could, if you would read my mind
Read my mind

Read My Lips

Words and music: doug johnson, mike reno, neil shilkin
Here you come again, lookin for another thrill
With your lipstick, high heel shoes, lookin like youre
Dressed to kill
Tattoo stuck on you, branded by a chosen few
What short memory, now its time to pay your dues
Dont you hear a word I say?
Just turn your head and look this way
And read my lips
Read my lips, listen to me, Im talkin to you
Read my lips
Read my lips, Im tellin you, Im through with you
I know where you go when you need to get some
Bad little actress on a mattress, its seduction
Anything for you
You dont hear a word I say
So turn your head and look this way
And, read my lips
Read my lips, listen to me, Im talkin to you
Read my lips
Read my lips, listen to me, youre history
Ive been watching what you do
And it doesnt take a fool
To see what weve been through
Oh, gonna turn the page on you
(guitar solo)
You dont hear a word I say
So turn your head and look this way
And read my lips
Read my lips, listen to me, Im talkin to you
Read my lips
Read my tips, oh, Im through with you
Read my tips
Read my lips, listen to me, Im talkin to you
Read my lips
Read my lips, listen to me, youre history
Oh yeah, read my lips
I said, read my lips
Read my lips

Did You Read The Morning Paper

(Nickolas Ashford/Valerie Simpson/R. Monica)
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
There on the front page was a picture
Of a crowd as they watched a parade passing by
And through the haze of last nights sleep
Something familiar caught my eye
There was a couple looking so much in love, yes
They had a front line view
And as I pulled the paper closer
I realized standing next to her it was you
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Now I know why you've been working late each night
And no longer have desire to ever hold me tight
And your busy, busy schedule was all a lie
Oh, even the dream with a bonus, oh just another alibi
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headline
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Did you get the news today
Did you read the morning paper
Isn't the picture very clear
Where do we go from here
Did you read the morning paper
Did you see the front headlines
Did you read the morning paper
Baby let me lend you mine
Oh, what now
Did you read the morning paper
Did you get the news today

Keep Moving

Hurry up
Dont slow down
Pick a time
Dont let hands pull you down
If youre waiting
Have it up
Move along
Say goodbye
Dont let words stay too long
If youre leaving
It read
We missed you
Between the lines
It said hold it high
With a smile
Speak out loud
With the mind of a child
If youre lucky
It read
We missed you
Between the lines
It said hurry up
We really must be going theres no time to delay
We have to leave our message because we cant stay
It really is important so remember take care
Please keep on moving cos theres nobody there
It read
We missed you
Between the lines it said
Weve waited for so long
But now its time t-t-to keep moving along
Here and there are the signs
On the road give way to stop and go
When youre moving
It read
We missed you
Between the lines it said
Weve waited for so long
But now its time to to to keep moving along
Keep moving, youve got to keep moving
Keep, keep, youve got to keep moving
To keep moving along

As If You Read My Mind

Close your eyes til the morning
Close your eyes til the early dew
Get inside what youve been missing
Are the very first words that I heard coming from you
Take a chance on the secret
That you hide for beneath your dreams
Use your wildest imagination
You just tell me what it is and I will make it be
As if you read my mind
As if you touched my soul
As if you knew exactly where I wanted to go
Lets get high on the happy
With a toast to you and me
Love is here just for the giving
And between us weve got all the love well ever need
As if you read my mind
As if you touched my soul
As if you knew exactly where I wanted to go
As if you read my mind
As if you touched my soul
As if you knew exactly where I wanted to go
As if you read my mind
As if you touched my soul

I prefer to be a monkey than a donkey!

First standard girl
called me for a funny play,
She wrote a few words for her display,
in a folded paper and hide it for a while;

She asked me to say a number
from one to ten and open the paper,
She gave me a clue and asked me to say four
Four denotes that I am a good boy;

But I said the number 2 instantly,
The number 2 interprets monkey,
The number 1 denotes donkey,
I prefer to be a monkey than a donkey!

Never Mind Books

Books are forces,
They are resources,
His mind just deserves,
And it contains and preserves
You, the writer of need
Who wrote the books to read.

Listen again and again
To the speaker of words
Of phrases that strain
The mind of lords
Who speak as well
And listen to the bell.

Hair and hustle

Dear can you help me for a while?
asked apologetically for a good smile,
’No’ replied a friend, keeping distance mile,
worries all around so can’t smile,

Hounded by worries, sick for while,
how can I offer even forced smile,
pain in her voice Keeping her mild,
mind seized with thought for her child,

She was extremely sorry,
could not afford luxury as money was worry,
situation was tense and she was in hurry,
Mind not working and hand hitting with furry,

I Will do anything for sick child,
can’t remain quite so mild,
I will have to find some means and way,
Still have no hope and no more say,

’hair’ and ‘hustle’ is answer,
What? Hair and hustle,
what is all this about?
Fumed at answer asked, what is this all about? I asked

Explain it dear nothing going in head,
simple may be lines but can not read,
what do they and what it stand for?
Is that all meaning which they stood for?

Raged at the meaning, hair and hustle stood for,
asked again why? What really they meant?
Hair is just trimming as it is learnt,
Hustle is nothing but only business

I have no option but go for child care,
what is meaning hustle and what about hair,
they loose charm and stand nothing,
I may go for it if offered something,

Life of child is so dear
Pain may be more but I may bear,
Many stories appear and I also hear,
child should get care life I fear,

Child if suffers, I will be broke,
can’t bear any such more stroke,
So do not offer any more joke,
Even get angry if some one poke,

Hustle” I found as prostitute,
So mean word and not good substitute,
It was clever ploy on her part not tell truth,
Situation as warranted life not smooth

I remained restless and night whole awoke,
Packets after packets finished for smoke,
Hustle means selling body as she told,
I could not decide whether move was bold,

I learnt later life was living hell,
She did not find as means well,
I was not ready and also not willing,
But helpless as today soul I am killing
