0023 The truth about truth, etc.
Suppose the Greeks were right –
that, though some of us
may seek to climb Olympus
(the rocky scramble exhilarating
in the moist fresh morning,
the scent of coffee, baking bread,
rising from the valley below,
the occasional shout of shepherd to his dog,
up higher, the tiptilt goats surprised,
and then the mist, the thinning air,
the inner urge, ambition
fading, as humility, surrender, grow)
that all of us, fully although seemingly in some degree,
yearn for the True, the Good, the Beautiful,
perhaps not in that order, or at least at first,
and believing or not believing
that ultimately, we may know the state
when in their glory, all these three
might merge, be indistinguishable;
for this, no climb is needed, since
the gods - the Greeks were sure of this -
dwell ever in our hearts; at rest, but
waiting for their call, or ours,
to show us to ourselves, and bursting forth
in what we recognise as enthusiasm..
but for those who love to climb,
who love the view, the upper air,
the risk, the challenge and the sport -
the topmost crags surmounted,
the scree no longer playing its game
of snakes and ladders with our feet and hearts and minds,
the clouds like a white, concealing mystery,
now below us; the gods invisible to ground level eyes
run eagerly to greet us in our hearts; we now
pure oxygen for the others still visible
through breaks in the white clouds of poetry,
climbing on their way; our hearts breathing pure oxygen for them
saying yes the climb is worth it,
the Greeks were right.

The Climb
Step by step
I've come closer to reaching the top
Every step must be placed so that I don't fall off
Looking down to see about how much higher I am
Another cool wind comes through and brushes my skin
The harder I push the tension does grow
I gather my thoughts the further and further I go
With some luck I just might keep on climbing
So better to climb than to face a fall
So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
So high the climb Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
Pulling myself up by a rope
I better my view
The only thing in sight is what I must do
As I turned I could see myself falling
Which in return save me strength for the climb
So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
So high the climb
Can't turn back now
Must keep on climbing up to the clouds
Although many failed I must now prevail with no question
Have no time to stop
Onward to the top of the mountain
And I can't turn back now
Its so very high but I can't turn back now
If I keep it up

Snakes And Ladders

He
In a shopping mall
Finally met the perfect girl
She is all that matters
The only one in all the world
Like a barbie doll
Oh love is snakes and ladders
Snakes and ladders
She
Just to have and hold
Is the perfect air-brushed angel
Makes you hot just looking at her
Stapled into all his braincells
Like a centerfold
Oh love is snakes and ladders
Snakes and ladders
Get to the top and slide back down
Get to the bottom climb back up
Buy the townhouse
Call the preacher
Get to the bottom climb back up
Get to the top and slide back down
Get to the bottom climb back up
Set up credit for the lovely creature
The lovely creature
He
On a corporate climb
Set his sights on power for her
On a silver platter
He gave up happy hour for her
Perrier and lime
Oh love is snakes and ladders
Snakes and ladders
She
In a handsome world
Put her mind to social graces
All the privileged chatter
Setting pretty table places
For the girls in pearls
Oh love is snakes and ladders
Snakes and ladders
Get to the top and slide back down
Get to the bottom climb back up
Buy the carphone--
Call the broker
Get to the bottom climb back up
Get to the top and slide back down
Get to the bottom climb back up

True love--true love--true love
Hes so nervous
New love--new love--new love
When hes with her
Oh--hes wasting away
True love--true love--true love
Its so curious
New love--new love--new love
Just to kiss her
To kiss her--to kiss her--to kiss her
To kiss her--to kiss her--to kiss her
To kiss her he has to shave
She
In the gilded mirrors
In the swing of fancy places
Where the black ties flatter
Started seeing other faces
Young-fogie-financiers
Oh love is snakes and ladders
Snakes and ladders
See
In the crimes of time
How the seasons steal away
How the rungs are shattered
First youre green then youre grey
Still the snakes unwind
Still playin snakes and ladders
Snakes and ladders

Sonnet- My Poetry
I thought I started climbing just a hill;
With time, it dawned to me it was a peak;
I knew I had to climb up further still,
The peak was nowhere seen that I did seek.
I wasn't a mountaineer to begin with;
I slowly learnt to climb requiring skill;
Tho' an accident, my climb had its pith,
With ease I'll climb the summit on the hill.
And now I know the gradient so well,
And dangers of the terrain I climb in;
When I will reach the peak, no one can tell,
But now onwards, my ambition's to win.
A beacon from above doth goad me on,
And soon a dress of starry clouds, I'll don.

0011 For the Godless but good-natured
If mankind has dethroned the ancient gods,
then what has mankind brought upon itself?
since - no more prayer, requests – no special treats
for those who offer up humility?
no god above the lesser gods – the One
who favoured those who followed ‘our’ stern creed;
no longer faith, or hope, or charity,
no longer blest by loving-kindliness?
what shall we place upon those empty thrones
and still avoid the legion of Man’s sins?
those virtues which our forefathers saw as good –
which made the gods to smile – have they now changed
and Lying, Cheating, Killing, our new gods?
it cannot be.. so what of Reason’s rule?
and what of Love – that even the gods themselves
declared the essence, binding ‘them’ and ‘us’?
so Reason says – what godly things we sought
by some divine decree declared ‘out there’
we must now seek within ourselves; as did
the Greeks; as do the Hindus now;
and find a glorious god within, at rest
until we waken him or her, and shine
as godly good in our most inward self;
believe ourselves so wholly perfect thus,
remembering in ourselves, magnificence
which pours out glory as those gods declared..
but where to start? with gratitude; and praise;
for all those things which so enrich our days;
for thanks and praise in life stand by themself;
they call forth love, which makes all things, oneself.

Greeks Don't Want No Freaks
There was beer all over the dance floor
and the band was playin' rhythm and blues
You got down and did the gator, and half
an hour later, you were barfin' all over your
Girlfriend's shoes.
But the Greeks don't want no freaks.
The Greeks don't want no freaks
Just put a little smile on them rosy
cheeks,
'Cause the Greeks don't want no freaks.
(GATOR!!)
She was the pride and the passion of Dixie
She did exactly what her daddy had planned.
She was perfect little sister until somebody missed
her and they found her in the bushes with
the boys in the band
But the Greeks don't want no freaks
The Greeks don't want no freaks
So put a great big smile on them rosy cheeks,
'Cause the Greeks don't want no freaks
No, the Greeks don't want no freaks
Said, the Greeks don't want no freaks
Just put that monster smile on them rosy cheeks
'Cause the Greeks don't want no freaks
No, the Greeks don't want no freaks,
Ahh...

Sonnet: Climb, We Must
Climb we must, each step in life every day;
Climb we must, each rung in life, one by one;
Climb we must, with care slowly all the way;
Climb but steadily, it isn’t merely fun.
Haste could make a waste: fatal could be fall;
Tougher’s the climb when on the steeper side;
Time is short but still we obey His call;
God is our Master in whom we abide.
We ought to rest but when we find the time;
Climb we must, all day and rest during night;
Though success may not come, our duty’s prime;
God is our guide always: Beacon of light.
We ought to reach the place earmarked by God,
Although unshod and though we are from clod.

0405 The Mountain of Truth
This bloody poetry writing - it's like rock-climbing -
who asked you to, anyway?
who needs it?
why can't you be just like everyone else -
admire the mountain from afar,
Olympus, Parnassus, whatever, what's in a name?
its cap of snow, the way you often can't see the top
for mist; like romance around truth.
Homer at the top saw gods - shall you?
But no -
it's a fine summer morning
and you get the urge to see the view from the top;
well fine, but that's not enough for you,
no going up the standard route for you, oh no,
you want to be the first to get to the top by
a new route never attempted before...
so there you are an hour or two later, at the grassy foot
safe in your skin and about to risk your life
(and your reputation, you conceited little man)
and off we go...
the rockface, truth itself (and did you give a single thought
to how that was built, or who might have built it?)
and you with this tiny, hot ambition;
but take it calmly now, word by word, or you're in trouble
and it's a banal climbdown for anyone to see and read.
and it's not as if anyone is going to appreciate
the difficulty of your climb
without doing it themself; and taste the exhilaration,
the selfish, lonely, glorious exhilaration
as you gain the top, and gaze at the heart-stirring, breeze-blessed view
as if you are for those few minutes before other thoughts creep in,
the master of your universe...
but beware, even the climb down you now face
back to the plains of everyday
may be a sterner test - humility may even
cross your mind, as you recall each step
that that same rockface of the truth
that challenged all your skills to master,
saved your life every step, by its every ancient crack and crevice
so conveniently provided by nature and those millions upon millions
of seashells that built this truthful mountain...
and now, you're back on the level plain of everyday -
are you going to keep it quiet, or tell the world?
'Look, there's the mountain I climbed! ' 'Yes, I saw it
in the paper - how's the wife? ' And though
it'll be recorded in the books, the later editions will point out
that yes it was the first, but that was before the first
girl did it by that route, the first child,
the first man did it barefoot,
the first blind man did it from memory...
yes you'll feel good, yes you'll feel a bigger man,
yes you'll be a better climber for it,
yes your fellow climbers
will treat your name with respect,
yes they'll read it in the books,
but they'll never know, unless they try it,
how it felt at every risky step,
the holds you didn't take for caution's sake
on that rockface of truth,
what went through your mind or got blotted out.
But you'll know. And that's enough for you.
Personal satisfaction. And the hope
that your book about it will touch others,
even sell well. Your heart's in it -
what more can you ask?
This bloody poetry-writing.

Two Hearts
Featured on the soundtrack of buster, 1988
Well, there was no reason to believe shed always be there
But if you dont put faith in what you believe in
Its getting you nowhere
Cos it hurts, you never let go
Dont look down, just look up
Cos shes always there to behind you, just to remind you
Two hearts, believing in just one mind
You know were two hearts believing in just one mind
Cos theres no easy way to, to understand it
Theres so much of my life in her, and its like Im blinded
And it teaches you to never let go
Theres so much love youll never know
She can reach you no matter how far
Wherever you are
Two hearts, believing in just one mind
Beating together till the end of time
You know were two hearts believing in just one mind
Together forever till the end of time
She knows (she knows)
Therell always be a special place in my heart for her
She knows, she knows, she knows
Yeah, she knows (she knows)
No matter how far apart we are
She knows, Im always right there beside her
Were two hearts...

His Child Reaching Up To Embrace
God eagerly waiting to embrace
his soul his heart each morning.
God eagerly waiting to embrace
his child reaching up to embrace.
A child asking questions of own heart
why his father’s heart him doth so move.
Pouring upon him unlimited love divine
giving a guiding light love from above.
A heart eager to be taught and know
God's love with each new day’s light.
A heart wanting to climb up to his God
upon a sun-beam or moon beam night.
If thy will is to seek would God’s love know?
To each every mortal soul good deeds sow.
Do not stack all their error sins in view row
humility compassion charity to them show.

Three Words
Three laconic words I love you enshroud
The hearts of those of dead love
Angels whom hide behind love's cloud
Below here on earth from up above
Each line a line in their ivory dipped wings
I love you I love you captivate
Thine hearts of hearts the angels sing
As our hearts draw close and gravitate
Dead words in dead song the poet grieves
At the grave of love of dead grizzled white
To resurrect thee with I love you he believes
In love, every love, love at first sight
As the clouds, separate and light shine through
All hearts eyes gaze and learn
It's true, it's true
In the words I love you we burn….

We Goin' Be Alright
I would walk, I would walk, I would walk
A thousand miles, if I knew that you
Would be waiting on the other side
I would climb, I would climb, I would climb
The highest mountain,
If you would fulfill the promise to be mine oh mine
I would swim, the seven seas
If we could sit down and talk about us
And agree to agree
I would walk without water
Across the death of sand
To here you say youre ready to be in love again
People are talking, trying to build us apart
They cant see the love in our hearts
Girl I care about you and you care about me
And if we believe in each other
We goin' be alright, yes we will
We goin' be alright, alright
We goin' be alright, yes we will
If we believe in each other
We goin' be alright, alright!

The playground.
We are the kids in the playground of plastic man,
Swing sets, sand pits, climbing ladders, down,
Sliding frames, see saw and the hide and seek,
The life and the play ground are alike.
Two sit on the see saw and looking at each other,
Going up and down, the life becomes boring rather,
If one gets down, the other will slam down faster,
In life's playground, people separate cooler and harsher.
Playing swing is fun for the sitting, not for the pushing,
Some sit and enjoy and the rest push punctually until the ending,
Sand pits are small, where we are not hurt, but get dirt,
A closed community, where has no space for peace and growth.
Everything that done in the dark will be exposed in simple light,
Everything that hidden will be shown in the soul flight,
Nothing is hidden for ever to seek, but seeking is a game,
Everyone of us delight, to find the lies or truth of the shame.
Everyone of us rushing to the ladder, crowded at the slope,
Not many can climb, never can climb, waiting with hope,
Then one by one to the top to see the glamorous playground,
Then sit and slide slowly and steadily to land on the sand.

The Wall
I've hit a wall that I have to climb,
a wall I have to scale.
It frightens me as I look at it
and yet I know without fail
that many have slowly ascended it
but not without some scratches.
Scratches are small reminders
that occur as you climb a little higher.
They bleed for a time and give you concern
and you rest because you tire.
The rest is healing, the time you need
to see the wall get smaller.
When you reach the top and feel the thrill
of how you kept on going,
the climb itself is exhilaration
and the satisfaction in knowing
that no wall is too high, too high to defy.
It's a wall where fear was growing.
Walls don't stand forever.
They can be taken down.
One brick at a time you dismantle it
and then look back around.
It's no longer there. It's behind you now.
You've ascended to higher ground.

Because They Are There
Come on a journey with me
Travel life's weary road will we
From eagle heights to the earth below
Where man doth sorrowfully go
We find ourselves staring up mountains
Some scared, some meek, some defiant
We feel a shrinking inside
As we face this mountain that doth arise
Tis' three things we can do
We can run around, go up, or tunnel through
Some harder, some easy, but please,
Be careful, the choices made with ease.
Cause these mountains, they big
These mountains make our hearts sink
Most days, we want to run away
We think that we'll live to fight another day
So we spend our time, tunnelling through
Giving the effort without the view
Or we try to run around, taking detours
Till surrounded by mountains, we're finally caught
One must finally face a climb, if he wants to move on
Of life in the valley, one must never grow fond
Because we will never survive the dark and gloom.
Every valley, eventually will bring our doom
But in the end, the real reason that we climb
Is to just a glimpse perhaps find
Of what we were made for, a paradise we lost
That's why we climb, no matter the cost
We stumble, crawl, and fight our way up
By rocks our hands and feet are cut
Our blood soaks into the stone
And at times we lie in a ditch, crying alone
But our password's ‘victory' and we will fight
All throughout the day, and into the cold night
Ever will we say die? No! Never!
We will never say die ever!
We will go until there's no more to climb
We will push, until we have crossed the line
Till we reach the pinnacle, till we raise our hands
Till we are crowned, the conquering man
At the mountaintop, we find traces of glory
The remnants of a fairy-tale's story
From there we see where none have been
We see the greater goal we want to achieve
Let the chill run through our bones
Let the brave venture on alone
Some go round mountains because they're there
The brave climb them because they are there!

Enthusiasm
I love the old Greek view –
within each of us
the god lies sleeping;
a sweet sleep, full of refreshment,
as snug as a bug in a rug
or Arthur, all his knights around,
under the green hills of Avalon;
we, each of us full of all Olympus;
gods, sleeping as a mother does,
always an ear for the slightest sound
of those they love;
the gods love us,
how could they not
and of those slightest sounds
it’s fire – the fire of speech –
that wakes their might;
they love a stirring speech
and in an instant,
throw all their mighty powers
at the service of the things we truly love –
so, as they work their mighty work,
may go without sleep for days,
drink only the sweet water of our love,
move heaven and earth
to please what pleases them and pleases us;
the good; the true; the beautiful;
how their eyes shine.
sleeping too,
between the pages of the dictionary
and our routined life
is the name by which we call them from their sleep;
the name which they themselves
then roar out a thousand stirring times as loud;
the name by which we know ourselves,
know us as they, and they as us
and as they stir in us
we know ourselves as gods
there is not one of you, of us, who does not know
and recognise its name; our name;
enthusiasm.

Not My Time To Go
lord don't take me away, there are so many things
that i must do and say.
there are so many hearts i've yet to touch
so many dreams that i must go through
before i am able to join you.
they say that life consists of a million steps.
well! i have'nt gotten ther yet.
i still have a ways to climb, before i reach that final step.
where i can finally see, the goals that you have set for me.
the dream i had of touching so many hearts and souls.
i've yet to reach that goal.
lord! this is not my time to go.
i know that i've been moving very slow.
but some things take longer than others.
as you very well know, you took six days
until there was perfection.
so i ask you from the bottom of my heart
to give me another start.so that i can touch the
minds i've missed, and let them feel your heavenly bliss.
give me the insight so that i may see
just what you have in store for me.
if i am here to write your word
then help me so that it can be heard.
let your voice reach the highest peak
so that people will start to seek
the words that you have given to me.
so that their hearts could be set free.
this is all i ask of thee.
but in order for me to do this
it is not my time to go.
so i hope that you'll move slow.

Higher In Time
The mountain is steep
The ditches are deep
The task in hand
Is making us weep
But heres a promise
(I intend to keep
/
That I mean to keep)
Seed it in your mind
And say it each night
Before you sleep:
We will climb higher in time
(och!)
Youve got a head full of trouble
And a ship to build
(you think you wont make it
But you know you will
You feel you need your
Cup refilled
Fill it out of mine
Well drop the defenses,
Pool our skill
/
Your heart youre hiding
Its making you ill
You feel like you want to have your
Sporran refilled
Well, fill it out of mine
Let the soulful water
Overspill)
And we will climb higher in time
Ive been to the bottom
Ive been on the train
Ive slept in the gutter
With my head in a drain
Ive been brutally proud
Ive been mortally shamed
But this is not a crime
Im just learning, my friends,
That its all in the game
And we will climb higher in time
(och!)
Climb higher in time
Climb higher in time
