To William Carlos Williams, sorta

I would talk to you
of shadows cast by street lights;
but not so much in words

rather, take a walk with you,
say, this is a street I know well,
may we walk together?

not to influence or be insistent,
but rather, see this, and this, so
let’s pause a while here,

perhaps just for a comma, or a space, or
the setting out upon the page,
a walk together,

a poem as a guiding of the reader
in the experience of the poem
I’d like to share,

not as insistence but rather
see it as loving care
as one would unwrap

some treasured heirloom
from its silk wrapping – this
I care for, you should know

and perhaps, as we walk together
through the experience of the poem
there’ll grow, a friendly trust

of imagination shared;
and like old friends, we can then talk
of anything, of everything.

Walk Dont Walk

Walk on their side of the street?
Dont walk where it feels the best?
Walk away from people u meet?
Dont talk 2 strangers
Unless they walk the way u want them 2?
Dont walk unless the others do?
I said walk, like u could use a ride?
Dont walk with a confident stride
Then people will walk over u
Dont talk until they tell u 2?
Dont talk if its against the rules?
Just walk away and be a fool?
Thats what they wantcha 2 do
Yeah, thats what they want u 2 do
Sha-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la-la
Dont talk if its against the rules?
Just walk away and be a fool?
Thats what they wantcha 2 do
So u got 2 walk like u wanna make it!
Dont walk like u just cant take it
Go on and walk on any side you like!
Dont walk wherever they tell u 2 - psyche!
The sun will shine upon u one day
If ure always walkin your way
The sun will shine upon u one day
If ure always walkin your way
Sha-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la-la
Sha-la-la-la-la
(tellin me now, just walkin)
Said Im walkin on your side of the street (tellin me now, just walkin)
Im talkin 2 the people I meet (tellin me now, just walkin)
Alright
Walk - dont walk
Talk - dont talk
Walk - dont walk
Talk - dont talk
Walk - dont walk
Talk - dont talk

0424 Walking together

When you arrive, ring then knock,
we talk a little and I can feel
you think perhaps you ought to say
how’s the poetry going then

but the silent note’s just a little
out of tune so I say
let’s go for a walk
the park’s quite near

so we walk out, the street is quiet
except for the house
where only last Saturday
the two sons were stabbed many times
hauled out of a white Mercedes van
in a gang related crime unquote

the house guarded by expressionless men on cellphones
born into a cycle of poverty, easy money and revenge, then
on to the park, the walkers, the cyclists,
the football players, the tennis players,
the lake, the dogs, the ducks, the rowers,
the flowers, those who sit and watch

this is in place of my poem
this is my poem this walk
a way of saying I hope
you share all the world with me

and all the emotions, all the thoughts
that arise from it, all we see
every moment whoops careful now as the boy
on the unsteady bicycle nearly hits us both

and back past the house of death
where the men stare at us as if
we are some yet unidentified enemy
in a war they won’t admit to

this is in place of my poem
this is my poem this walk
a way of saying I hope

All I Want From This Walk Is A Poem

ALL I WANT FROM THIS WALK IS A POEM

All I want from this walk is a poem-
A small poem-
I can take home-
A poem that can somewhat diminish
My guilt, my sense of failure, my worthlessness-
A small poem
That can make me feel
I am a human being again-
As sitting in the sun
And rewriting this poem
Does to some degree now.

The Poem At The End Of The Walk

THE POEM AT THE END OF THE WALK

The poem at the end of the walk
Does not know
Whether or not it will come into being-
Why a poem now?
Because the pen is in my hand
And I have some minutes to wait
And the world outside
Has so much light and beauty,
And I am quiet inside
After the long walk
Before the day of work
Not tired.

Rain Drops & Sun Showers

Rain falls on everyone
The same old rain
And I'm just trying to walk with you
Between the raindrops

I send my echo out
To get your love with poem
Obscures reflections of
My love

Rain falls on everyone
The same old rain
And I'm just trying to walk with you
Between the raindrops

I'll save a prayer for you
So lost and longing too
Bleach shared through dirty streaks
Wrapped up in clean white sheets
And if you think they'll watch you now
You should know they won't

Rain falls on everyone
The same old rain
And I'm just trying to walk with you
Between the raindrops
And I'm just trying to walk with you
Between the raindrops

I send my echo out
To get your love with poem
Obscure reflections of
Of my secret power
Force down the wings of god
To get your love with poem
Obscure reflections of my love

And I'm just trying to talk to you
Between the raindrops
Rain falls on everyone
The same old rain
And I'm just trying to walk with you
Between the raindrops
Rain falls on everyone
The same old rain
And I'm just trying to walk with you
Between the raindrops
And I'm just trying to walk with you
Between the raindrops

Out In The Street

Put on your best dress baby
And darlin, fix your hair up right
Cause theres a party, honey
Way down beneath the neon lights
All day youve been working that hard line
Now tonight youre gonna have a good time
I work five days a week girl
Loading crates down on the dock
I take my hard earned money
And meet my girl down on the block
And monday when the foreman calls time
Ive already got friday on my mind
When that whistle blows
Girl, Im down the street
Im home, Im out of my work clothes
When Im out in the street
I walk the way I wanna walk
When Im out in the street
I talk the way I wanna talk
When Im out in the street
When Im out in the street
When Im out in the street, girl
Well, I never feel alone
When Im out in the street, girl
In the crowd I feel at home
The black and whites they cruise by
And they watch us from the corner of their eye
But there aint no doubt girl, down here
We aint gonna take what theyre handing out
When Im out in the street
I walk the way I wanna walk
When Im out in the street
I talk the way I wanna talk
Baby, out in the street I dont feel sad or blue
Baby, out in the street Ill be waiting for you
When the whistle blows
Girl, Im down the street
Im home, Im out of my work clothes
When Im out in the street
I walk the way I wanna walk
When Im out in the street
I talk the way I wanna talk
When Im out in the street
Pretty girls, theyre all passing by
When Im out in the street
From the corner, we give them the eye
Baby, out in the street I just feel all right
Meet me out in the street, little girl, tonight
Meet me out in the street
Meet me out in the street

I Walk Without A Poem

WALK WITHOUT A POEM

I walk without a poem-
It is a time without poems-
I am tired -
The world is beating me down-
The older I ache
The more I grow cold-
I write these lines in the deep heat of summer
They are incidental and small
A poem perhaps-
But they cannot lift my soul
I do not know how now -

If There Is A Poem On This Walk

IF THERE IS A POEM/ON THIS WALK

If there is a poem
On this walk,
Will I know how to write it?
Will I know how to make
The cold and the wind
Into a song of joy?
Will I know how to make
The gloom and the damp
Into a hymn of happiness?
If there is a poem on this walk
Will I know how to stop and hear it?

The Poem Is Going On Now

THE POEM IS GOING ON NOW

The poem is going on now
The poem is this walk
This wind this light these trees
The poem is going on now
Life
Just being alive now
Is suddenly everything I ever wanted
This wind this day
This life this world
This quiet Yerushalmi street
The poem is going on now.

A Poem Is Just A Poem

a poem is just a poem and if it is just a poem
it must be just a poem just like another poem

a poem is nothing but just a poem otherwise
it cannot be my poem; it may speak about

anything, or something, or about everything,
but my poem is just a poem just like anybody's

poem, which is just but a poem, like any other
poem, for a poem to be a poem it must just be

a poem: it has nothing to do with my love, and death
my life, or bliss, but as i have told you, once, twice

thrice, eat some rice, and be that wise, a poem is
just a poem, just like your poem. Why do you insist

on asking, what is happening to me? I am not a
poem, for i am but just the composer of the poem,

need i tell you again, that a poem is just a poem?
just like any other poem, which is just a poem

it is just a voice in my head that i have heard
someone comes and speaks and i listen so

this poem is not actually my poem but the poem
of someone else's: theirs not mine, from a mind.

Do You Even Know Me?

Do you even know me?
I walk down the street so many are completely oblivious to who I really am.
I wish to know everyone.

Like best friends.
To trust, in the inner most exposing.
A naked body cradled lying on the ground.
Water flows freely to every extremity.
Feeling equal inside.
Throwing away every last bit of pride.

Do you even know me?
I walk down the street so many are completely oblivious to who I really am.
I wish to know everyone.

A persona amplified by class.
I want to eliminate all of it as I pass.
We are all flawed.
Why in our eyes all that is seen is rejection?
Stay away from me you have an infection.
A carcinogenic ailment.
Oh it spreads to quickly.

Do you even know me?
I walk down the street so many are completely oblivious to who I really am.
I wish to know everyone.

Do you even know me?
I walk down the street so many are completely oblivious to who I really am.
I wish to know everyone.

Do you even know me?
I walk down the street so many are completely oblivious to who I really am.
I wish to know everyone.

Walk On

Walk on
Roy orbison
Walk on
If you should meet
Walk on
On down the street
Walk on
Dont even look
Walk on
Close up the book
We dont want the world to see us
Like we are
We should never have even gone this far
Quickly brush away that teardrop
Walk away darling
Dont stop
Dont look back for me baby
Walk on
Walk on
Dont turn around
Walk on
To higher ground
Take the love we shared together
Keep it in your heart forever
Dont forget me
Oh baby walk on
If you ever loved me baby
Walk on

Walk And Talk

Walk that walk.
Talk that talk.
Walk that walk.
Talk that talk.
Walk that walk.
Talk that talk.
Walk that walk.
Talk that talk.
Walk that walk.
Oh, talk that talk and walk that walk.
Talk that talk.
Walk that walk.
Talk that talk.
Baby, you look so good.
Come on baby,
walk and talk.
Come on baby,
walk and talk.
A-when ya' talk to me,
you know you look so good.

I Walk Where The Poem Once Was

I WALK WHERE THE POEM ONCE WAS

I walk where the Poem once was,
The Trees are still green
The woman is dead,
The sky is cold.

I walk where many Poems
Have been written
After the rain
Her flowers still bloom.

The presence of the other person,
Is the Greatest Gift God gives us.

This one and only one poem
This fictional poem
This ideal poem
This perfect poem
This would – be holy poem
This unreal poem
This poem which is not a poem
This poem which is the essence of all poetry
This poem
And that poem
And my poem
And your poem
And all poems

Mine and yours
This one small poem of so so many
And not such a good poem at all.

No Poem In Me/Everything Irritates and Angers

NO POEM IN ME

No poem in me-
Everything irritates and angers
Even the beauty of the morning light-
Says nothing to me.

Walk, walk, walk,
Try to get the Impatience out.

Write a few lines,
To come back to a better Self.

Try.

Despite these lines
I am not there yet.

Shadows And Tall Trees

Back to the cold restless streets at night
I talk to myself about tomorrow night
Walls of white protest
A gravestone in name
Who is it now
It's always the same
Who is it now
Who calls me inside
Are the leaves on the trees
Just living disguise
I walk sweet rain tragicomedy
I'll walk home again
to the street melody
But I know, oh no
But I know, oh no
But I know...
Shadows and tall trees
Shadows and tall trees
Shadows and tall trees
Shadows and tall trees
Life through a window
Discoloured pain
Mrs. Brown's washing is always the same
I walk street rain tragicomedy
I'll walk home again
to the street melody
But I know, oh no
But I know, oh no
But I know...
(Out there)
Do you feel in me...
Anything redeeming
Any worthwhile feeling
Is love like a tightrope
Hanging from the ceiling
But I know, oh no
But I know, oh no
But I know...
Shadows and Tall Trees

The Poem Of All The Places I Have Never Been

THE POEM OF ALL THE PLACES I HAVE NEVER BEEN

The poem of all the places I have never been
The poem of all the dreams I have not seen
The poem of others poems written in lines I have never imagined
The poem of the infinite – what-is- not and ‘what- will- never- be
The poem of seas and suns and sounds and Shakespeare’s sonnets,
The poem of words and only words whose sounds do not mean what we feel
The poem of all I would not and cannot write
The poem that is not and never will be in me
The poem I do not write
The poem I am not
The poem lost
The poem which itself is not a poem
The poem of the last contradiction and the first
The poem beyond the poem hidden within the poem
The poem which will never be a poem
The poem which is not
The poem I cannot dream.

I Lost The Poem I Wrote In My Mind

I LOST THE POEM I WROTE IN MIND

I lost the poem I wrote in my mind
When walking to Shul this morning-
I can only try to recall its thoughts;
‘Walk too fast and the mind cannot hear itself
Walk slowly and listen to the poem inside yourself.
The road ahead the trees the sky
Has a beauty too great for you to write
Thank God for your sight.”

The best lines are forever gone-
A poem to replace a poem
Is not as good as the original-
I wish I had the words for all the beauty God gives me in my life
How wonderful it is to be alive- sometimes
And to be able to write poems – even if somewhat poorly.
