Death visits in the garden, in the night
‘The dead man was a six-foot ex-heavyweight,
funding his unpaid youth club work
by working as security in a night-club;
shot for gently warning
a smoker in the garden; no witnesses
have come forward… the dead man’s brother
was a probation officer; now, from despair,
a crime prevention officer…’
Committees meet, look serious, nod…
are the crime figures up or down this year?
but the ones who could enlighten us
just how it is, are the inarticulate…
‘I worshipped my Dad, always so sharp-dressed,
gold watch, rings, bracelet, all that stuff…
but we didn’t see enough of him…
he had several ladies.. he’d appear,
unannounced, every few weeks with
lots of presents for us, stay a night or two,
always on the phones… then he had business
out of town… and there’d be another baby bro or sis…
Mum said Dad said condoms
take the pleasure out of it…
she worked all hours, Mum, to keep us all together..
black women are so strong…
‘You got to carry a blade when young,
just for self-defence, know what I mean?
The first scum that I shot,
I was real scared, man, real scared…
but there weren’t no ‘witnesses’ –
know what I mean? ’
There’s ‘unprovoked attack’, and there’s defence,
and there’s that grim grey nomansland
of ‘respeck’ – where the fierce, bruised ego,
which looks always for status, is
challenged by a single silent glance…
‘Yeah, I got my posse and my patch,
like to dress sharp, gotta lady or two,
want my kids to make something of themselves…
but I got an anger burning inside of me…
life owes me, maan – knowhamean..? ’
The dead man was a six-foot heavyweight,
funding his unpaid youth club work
by working as security in a night-club;
shot for gently warning
a smoker in the garden; no witnesses
have come forward… the dead man’s brother
was a probation officer, now, from despair,
a crime prevention officer…
This poem is for both of you.

Officer Blue
Officer blue,
Really love the things you do,
Even when I was just eight years.
Officer blue,
Is it true what they say?
That when you work youre still at play.
Oh officer blue,
I really love the things you do.
Its magical,
People in a human zoo.
Officer blue,
Cast a shadow on the wall,
But by torchlight even mice look tall.
Officer blue,
In a blaze of uniform,
And your stripes and badges to conform.
Officer blue,
Really love the things you do,
Even when I was just eight years old.
Officer blue,
Is it true what they say?
That when you work youre still at play.

Look Sharp
Big shot, tell you what
Tell me what goes on around here
Go on and get me in the corner
Smoke my cigarettes and drink my beer
Tell me that this world is no place for the weak
Then you can look me in the eye
And tell me if you see a trace of fear
You gotta look sharp
You gotta look sharp
And you gotta have no illusions
Just keep going your way looking over your shoulder
Okay, what you say
Tell me what theyre wearing this year
Go on and laugh at me cause you dont see
That I got something going right here
Say Im just a dreamer
Say Im just a kid
Well ace, shut your face
Maybe you will see or hear
You gotta look sharp
You gotta look sharp
And you gotta have no illusions
Just keep going your way looking over your shoulder
Big shot, thanks a lot
Gotta go its getting late
I got a date with my tailor now
Thanks for putting me so straight
Tell me how they run the crime down every street
But check your watch and wallet now
Before I go and youre too late
You gotta look sharp
You gotta look sharp
And you gotta have no illusions
Just keep going your way looking over your shoulder

Pizza Express has been a real godsend for me. I've been working there for several years, six weeks a year. You can go to work every night and play. It's a nice little club. It's just about the right size for me, about 150 people.

Our Car Club
Ive been cruisin round the town now with the guys for quite a while
We been thinkin bout starting up a club that shows some class and style
And well get the finest cars
We got a deuce coupe, a stingray, a rail job and an xke
(well start a car club)
Well be the fastest at the drags, man, well really cut some low ets
(well start a car club)
And wipe out the other clubs
Well set a meet, and get a sponsor, and collect some dues
And you can bet that well have our jackets on wherever we cruise
Well get the roughest and the toughest initiation we can find

And if you want to try to get in well really put you through the grind

Jeremy Henwood (In Memorial) Uncommon Valor In Peace & War
Wow! San Diego, California not Detroit, New York, Chicago or LA,
Unprovoked attack on a proudly worn blue uniform shatters the day,
Completed tours of combat duty one in Afghanistan and two in Iraq,
This USMC Captain gunned downed stateside via a cowardly attack.
Whenever there is police intervention many will play the race card,
Viewing a security camera from McDonald's restaurant it's not hard,
Given the lighting inside at the counter & outside the sun did shine,
It's easy to see that this hero in uniform was completely colorblind.
'Officer Friendly' is a term rarely associated in Black neighborhoods,
As law enforcement is hardly meant to portray anything that is good,
Tell that to Daveon Tinsley 13, who entered Mickey D's short of cash,
He was dime short as the cop opened his wallet & used his own stash.
You never get a second chance to make a first impression, oh how true,
However, kindness from the, 'good guys' is neither rare nor is it new,
Yet if the video equipment wasn't working this story would have died,
And without the proof if the kid retold the deed it he'd be telling a lie.
Soon afterwards a black Audi behind the police cruiser flashed its lights,
Okay, just another citizen requiring assistance, this too would be all right,
Pulling over Officer Henwood put down his window, a blast to the head,
Not from a pistol but a shotgun & injuries so severe, next day he's dead.
Mention a killer's name alongside a man who served his country well?
Naw! Just as long as he answers Satan when his name is called in hell,
In their brief conversation the kid said he wanted to play in the NBA,
Then Jeremy said work hard with a smile saying, 'one day you may.'
Jeremy leaves behind proud patents, loving brother & sister, must be hard,
'The eyes of the Lord run to & fro.' There! My new Captain of the Guard,
America, no the whole world doesn't need less dedication it needs more,
Foot Soldiers whose way of life is, 'Uncommon Valor in Peace & War.'

Club Soul City
Pack up your bags
Dont look back
Theres a little place
Out cross the the railroad tracks
If youre broken-hearted
And you dont know what to do
But they got a place down there thats just for you
Club soul, club soul city, yeah yeah yeah
Club soul, club soul city, oh yeah
Theres a waitress at the back bar
Goes with the the guy that runs the place
Shes got hair like a weeping willow
And tears running down her face
Shes seen a lot of guys like you coming around
Looking for something that theyve lost
Or trying to lose something that theyve found
Down at
Club soul, club soul city, yeah yeah yeah
Club soul, club soul city, oh yeah
So if youre down on your spirit
And there aint no-one who cares
If youre lost and youre lonely
You wont be lonely down there
You cant miss it, its just up the highway
On the front door theres a sign that says
Restricted to the losing kind
Club soul, club soul city, yeah yeah yeah
Club soul, club soul city, oh yeah
Club soul, club soul city, yeah yeah yeah
Club soul, club soul city, oh yeah

This Is The Football Season
This is the football Season it is that time of year
When men in the pub talk football as they enjoy their beer
And look forward to September when one club will fly the winner's flag
The team that wins the Premiership gives their fans the right to brag.
Their wives nicknamed the footy widows their husbands at the football club
Or after work talking football with their mates down at the local pub
They take football so seriously 'tis their passion in life
The footy fan loves his football club as much as his children or his wife.
And if their team lose at the weekend they feel and look so sad
What's known as football addiction they seem to have it bad
They feel sad for their football team and the chance of four premiership points gone
But they cheer up and look forward to next weekend's game as the working week wears on.
This is the football Season football has gone to their head
And their football scarves and beanies they even wear to bed
About their team they feel so passionate as if to them it did belong
And 'tis with delight and pride in victory that they sing the club song.

Proposition
Bring back that child, she said spare me the price of freedom.
Cold is my babys head blown by the wind of reason
Even the rage behind cries out to see
Were still standing under the closing edge
Pay for the crime of feeling
When all your pride is dead you must be scared instead...
A quiet word is my proposition
A promise made of a fierce day
A body bleeds for this coalition
Without surrender if you stay
Show me my youth, she cried wasted for desolation
Hold up the sacrifice, pull down your institutions
Resting while anger flies questions the same... whos deciding?
After the clouds have lain shame on your generation
When all your guilt lies dead you must be scared instead
(chorus)
When all your pain lies dead you must be scared instead

Stagger Lee
1948, xmas eve, with a full moon over town
Stagger lee shot billy delions
And he blew that poor boy down.
Do you know what he shot him for?
What do you make of that?
Cause billy delions threw the lucky dice
Won stagger lees stetson hat.
Bayo, bayo, tell me how can this be?
You arrest the girls for turning tricks
But youre scared of stagger lee.
Stagger lee is a madman and he shot my billy d.
Bayo go get him or give the job to me.
Delia delions, dear sweet delia-d
How the hell can I arrest him? hes twice as big as me.
Well dont ask me to go downtown, I wont come back alive [no more].
Not only is that mother big but he packs a .45 [four].
Bayo, delia said, just give me a gun
He shot my billy dead now Im gonna see him hung.
She went into the delions club through billy delions blood
Stepped up to stagger lee at the bar,
Said, buy me a gin fizz, love.
As stagger lee lit a cigarette she shot him in the balls
Blew the smoke off her revolver, had him dragged to city hall
Bayo, bayo, see you hang him high
He shot my billy dead and now hes got to die.
Delia went a walking down on singapore street
A three-piece band on the corner played near my God to thee
But delia whistled a different tune, what tune could it be?
The song that woman sung was look out stagger lee.
The song that delia sung was look out stagger lee.

A Guys Favorite Club
Going to a strip club tonight.
Flordia is the only place for me when it comes to the you can look but don't touch.
God how I love it so much.
One night, bottoms up, and the moneys all gone.
Triple XXX at the front door.
Sometimes it takes a big man to protect the girls.
That bouncer will knock you right to the floor.
Going to a strip club tonight.
Flordia is the only place for me when it comes to the you can look but don't touch.
God how I love it so much.
One night, bottoms up, and the moneys all gone.
All in good fun.
Sexual desires on the run.
Where's your mind as you glance.
Looky there that mans getting another lap dance.
She strips all the way down and spins around.
The perfect beauty, the perfect curves.
A figure so petite.
Going to a strip club tonight.
Flordia is the only place for me when it comes to the you can look but don't touch.
God how I love it so much.
One night, bottoms up, and the moneys all gone.
After hours, and not for kids.
Such a great time where can I begin.
With devil I'm holding hands.
Going into the vip room with certain demands.
Offers a plenty.
Time appointed stays.
Doing the nasty, behind closed curtains.
Knowing not a damn thing about this women.
Going to a strip club tonight.
Flordia is the only place for me when it comes to the you can look but don't touch.
God how I love it so much.
One night, bottoms up, and the moneys all gone.
Going to a strip club tonight.
Flordia is the only place for me when it comes to the you can look but don't touch.
God how I love it so much.
One night, bottoms up, and the moneys all gone.

Falling -The Third Second
The stage is Critical!
WarnING!
Warning I am F U
UK
(In between there is a complement of object)
Kilogram Esperenza Detergent.
This Message is clear
'It is a Warning'
Check this out!
You are dead!
DEAD!
Not dad!
And daddy!
Weakness and weakened
Light
Comes to clear my mind
Full of stuff of life
kids stuff,
Adult stuff,
And other stuff that are strange to mine.
It actually does not depend on ages
It just come
It leaves you
Releases you
Unleashes you.
Here,
I see myself dead
Without being dead.
Like see
'a dead dog'
'a darling dead dog'
or just
'anonymous dog'
I fall,
Full Fall.
Wake up!
'Réveils toi! '
In French, sorry for that.
And
The fall does not cease
or stop.

Who Was She?
They say she must have been no good,
She must have been a whore,
Or part of a drug gang,
Who she was working for.
No one knows who killed her,
They're all too scared to ask,
No ID, and the guy who shot her,
Was wearing a skeleton mask.
Her lifeless body on the ground,
Took a bullet to the face,
The fact she was shot in the plaza,
Only adds to the disgrace.
No journalist will report WHY she died,
Too afraid to write that line,
The police report simply lied,
Said she lived a life of crime.
The gunman moved on,
No one got in his way,
She'll be a nameless number soon,
On the List of the Dead Today.
It's tough down here in Mexico,
The Drug War rages on,
30,000 dead and counting,
Petrified by what is wrong.
She could have been a drug mule,
Or a school girl walking home,
Surrounded by corruption,
She lay there all alone.
Drug Lords run this country,
Protected by the cops,
With kickbacks to the army,
Drug traffic never stops.

The Crime of Being Me
On a brutal winter night
We stood bravely side by side
Against snowballs launched our way
By the enemies of our kind
In a graveyard’s mourning light
We both choked up, cried and cried
As the angels lifted him
On Death’s gloomy wings of flight
And you declared me dead, my brother
For the crime of being me
For all the faults I have
Well, I still cannot believe
And my only wish for you, my brother
Is someday you’ll understand
How it feels to be a corpse
Walking amongst your fellow man
In the haze of our carefree youth
We both wildly joked and joked
About wicked ironies
Of the enemies of Truth
Beside a pool so crystal blue
We both really hoped and hoped
That good luck would fill our lives
In everything we would pursue
But you declared me dead, my brother
For the crime of being me
For all the faults I have
Well, I still cannot believe
And my only wish for you, my brother
Is someday you’ ll understand
How it feels to be a corpse
Walking amongst your fellow man
And yet the pain has made me strong
I forgive you, you’re my brother

Yeah!
Yeah!"
(feat. Lil' Jon, Ludacris)
[Usher:]
Peace up!
A Town Down!
[Lil' Jon:]
Yeah, Ok! Lil' Jon!
[Usher:]
Yeah, Yeah Yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeaah
Yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeaah
[Usher (Verse 1):]
Up in the club with my homies, tryna get a lil V-I, but keep it down on the low key, cause you know how it is.
I saw shorty she was checkin up on me, from the game she was spittin' in my ear you would think that she knew me.
So we decided to chill
Conversation got heavy, she had me feelin like she's ready to blow!
(Watch Out!, Watch Out!)
She's saying come get me, come get me,
So I got up and followed her to the floor, she said baby lets go,
That's when I told her I said
[Usher (Chorus):]
Yeah (yeah) Shorty got down low and said come and get me
Yeah (yeah) I got so caught up I forgot she told me
Yeah (yeah) Her and my girl used to be the best of homies
Yeah (yeah) Next thing I knew she was all up on me screaming:
Yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeaah
Yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeaah
[Usher (Verse 2):]
So she's all up in my head now, got me thinking that it might good idea to take her with me,
Cause she's ready to leave (ready to leave)
But I gotta keep it real now, cause on a one to ten she's a certified twenty, but that just ain't me. hey.
Because I don't know if I take that chance just where it's gonna lead,
But what I do know is the way she dance makes shorty alright with me.
The way she (get low!)
I'm like yeah, just work that out for me.
She asked for one more dance and I'm
Like yeah, how the hell am I supposed to leave?
And I said
[Chorus]
[Lil' Jon:]
Luda!
[Ludacris (Verse 3):]
Watch out!
My outfit's ridiculous, In the club lookin' so conspicuous.
And Rowl! These women all on the prowl, if you hold the head steady I'm a milk the cow.
Forget about the game I'm a spit the truth, I won't stop till I get em in they birthday suits.
So gimmie the rhythm and it'll be off with they clothes, then bend over to the front and touch your toes.
I left the jag and I took the roles, if they aint cutting then I put em on foot patrol.
How you like me now, when my pinky's valued over three hundred thousand,
Lets drank you the one to please, Ludacris fill cups like double d's.
Me and Ursh once more and we leave em dead, we want a lady in the street but a freak in the bed to say
[Chorus]
[Ludacris (Bridge):]
Take that and rewind it back, Lil' Jon got the beat to make ya booty go (clap)
Take that and rewind it back, Ursher got the voice to make ya booty go (clap)
Take that and rewind it back, Ludacris got the flow to make ya booty go (clap)
Take that and rewind it back, Lil' Jon got the beat to make ya booty go (clap)

Shoestring as a Necktie and I hurried for the interview
Jumped into the doubledecker
And go to the Lunatic Asylum
For the Security Officer interview,
An old Man seated beside me, smiled
And he's very familiar.
'Hey! Young boy you must be working to a space project
I can trace from your face if I am not mistaken?
Where were all these night stars
Hide in daytime? '
Both of us got down at the same bus stop!
He proceeded to the outpatient ward
And I stood in front of the office.

The Footy Man
He wears his club scarf and beanie this cold saturday evening in the late Fall
As he walks from the train to the football oval for to watch a few hours of football
One might say a one eyed supporter he urges his footy heroes on
But he falls silent before the final siren when all hope of a victory seems gone.
In the work canteen on monday morning his workmates at him will have a go
And tease him of how his team lost on the weekend that they were too clumsy and slow
For much livelier and classier opponents though such banter he does not take to heart
One must take the good with the bad days of living and life it's all part
His passion in life is his Football Club a sports minded fellow is Stan
His favourite song is his Club anthem his nickname is the Footy Man
He always wears his club scarf and beanie and he looks forward to next weekend's game
And when his team loses by a narrow margin the umpires he always will blame.
He is happy when his team is winning the smile of joy is on his face
But on the monday after a loss he must put up with his workmates teasing him in the Workplace
But that is all part of life and living we win and we lose every day
But to next weekend he looks forward to when again he will watch his team play.

Rhythm Made Me Do It
I just can't sleep so I get in my car and I drive
I'm on the 101 and I'm cruisin' by 105
Got the radio cranked and the rhythm is comin' alive
Got the wind in my face and I'm ready to take on the night
Not a worry in sight the DJ is rockin' me wild
Things are startin' to shake so hold on 'cause I ain't gonna break
Red light in the rear view mirror
(Well hey you pull it over here)
He says miss just step away from the car
(Hands on your head move and you're dead)
But officer
The rhythm made me do it
The rhythm got me high
The rhythm made me do it
What can I say
The rhythm made me do it
He's walkin' real slow and I know he's checkin' me out
Officer please can you tell me what this is about
You're doin' 105 and I'm lucky that you're still alive
He says baby get behind the wheel
I wanna make your tyres squeal
Hey baby like to make some noise
Turn it on, turn it up
CHORUS
Got the wind in our faces been drivin' all though the night
Got the red lights on and the DJ is rockin' us right
Things are startin' to shake so hold on 'cause we ain't gonna break
BRIDGE 2
CHORUS(repeat and fade)

The 'Poem A Day' Project ~ Day 204
I stand surveying the angles
And slopes of the land
A plan in my mind and a golf club in my hand
The ball is waiting ready
To live its final putt
This shot is gonna happen, I feel it in my gut
I check the wind direction
And condition of the green
I weigh up all the angles, want the shot to be clean
I plant my feet real sturdy
And eye the balls route
I slow my breathing down as I prepare to shoot
I swing the club back slowly
Now going for the kill
But slip and clip the edge of the plastic windmill
