Surgery

Just back from the surgery

(at least it’s ‘the’ surgery, not

cold-steel ‘surgery’…)

Surgery. Well-named.

Surges of fear, apprehension,

remorse, injustice, you name it.

On second thoughts, don’t bother.

The reception room’s OK though.

The counter staff are always ready for

a laugh, a smile, a bit of banter.

Today, it’s ‘Do you mind being video’d?

It’s a training video. If that’s OK, would you sign

now, and again afterwards? ’

Cue for joker: you should have warned me,

I’d have gone to Make-Up first, and I only give my signature

for charity these days…send the fee to my agent

and next time my people will talk to your people

about the Pers. App….

but they stopped listening halfway.

Then the surgery… it’s like a scene

From Malice in Blunderland: as I enter,

I shrink, am diminished to

a slithery list on her computer screen;

judgment day records, and doomful events of personal life

now mere one-liners..

a case-history with the added social disadvantage,

sorry, negatively endowed, of

having a face and body..

Look for the camera, natch -

always ready to falsify my life

for no-one who might care.

Damn, it's behind me;

looks like truthday here.

Spare you the details

in case you tell me worse.. so

Exit Dwarf, as Shakespeare would have penned it.

You could have surfboarded on the final surge

of peripheral dismissed humanity;

too mean now, to say goodbye

to the deception staff.

Open Soul Surgery

Written by: jim vallance
Its been a long time since we been travellin down
On the wrong side of your love
But I dont care if you think Im wasting my time
Youre the only one Im thinkin of
Well I spend my whole life travellin around
From town to town and I need
Open soul surgery
Open soul surgery
Yeh I need surgery
Open soul surgery
Ooh, yeh
When you were 18 I took you from your mama & sister
As you didnt need that kind of protection
Now I hate to see you comin on like some kind of bitch
cos your life aint what youre expectin
Well I spend all my time just chasing you down
And now that I found you I need
Open soul surgery
Open soul surgery
Yeh I need surgery
Open soul surgery
Somebody help me now
And now the pressures on
I dont know right from wrong
I live in desperation
I can feel the heat
Now that Im on the street
For what youve done to me
And Im gonna need
Open soul surgery
Open soul surgery
Yeh I need surgery
Open soul surgery

Queer

A friend of mine sent me a letter from a hospital
Who was undergone a cardiac surgery.
I'll be all right and tell all the friends.
What a ridiculous dream it was last night?
A queen dragged me to her palace.
Then I said that I had a heart surgery last week.
She said I don't want your heart and I need something else.
Luckily I was awake as the nurse came to check my pulses.

Madness Itch

A post surgery sensation...
Described but has to be experienced.
When areas of the body,
Had been stitched and bandaged.
And a healing process begins...
That isn't funny one bit.

Some say to 'pat'.
While others suggest to gentle rub.
That madness itch...
Seems as if steel wool,
Would scratch that itch to satisfy...
Like nothing will or does.

A post surgery sensation...
Described but has to be experienced.
When areas of the body,
Had been stitched and bandaged.
And a healing process begins...
That isn't funny one bit.

'Hi neighbor.
May I use your rake when you're done? '

~Getting ready to do some backyard work, hmmm? ~

'Yeah, I might need your assistance! '

~No problem.
Just show me what it is you want me to do.~

I Love U In Me

{b-side of arms of orion}
She took off her dress, and I took a peek
While thunder storm played hide and seek
I begged for a kiss, she gave me 7
Our lips touched and it feel like heaven
Everything I want is what she does to me
She dont blush cause shes so damned free
When she makin love its like surgery
And she say, ooh
I love u in me
I promised myself not to come until she does
And she took both hands and a liar I was
No man in this world could ever hope 2 last
When my baby down shifts and starts pumpin fast
Everything I want is what she does to me
She dont blush cause shes so damned free
When she makin love its like surgery
And she say, ooh
I love u in me
I love u, I love u, in me
Our bodies sink in a pool of sweat
Its the kind of love that u never forget (never forget)
With u honey, Im the richest in the world (so rich)
I dont need money cause ure my girl (need money cause ure my girl)
Everything I want is what she does to me
She dont blush cause shes so damned free
When she makin love its like surgery (surgery)
And she say, ooh
I love u in me
I love u in me
Everything I want is what she does to me
U dont blush cause shes so damned free (so free)
When we makin love its like surgery (yeah)
And she say, ooh
I love u in me
(I love u)

Radiant Heart

The long running battles with heartaches
in each life filled with trouble and strife.
We look around at ourselves
rarely we like what we see.

Our appearance looks grotesque.
Let us change it for another.
New clothes with the latest fashion,
no, they don’t do the trick.

We need to change our features;
plastic surgery may be the key,
hoping to look better
in everyone’s eyes.

However, it does not matter
how we dress or look like.
We don’t need plastic surgery
to have love come our way.

Look around at what you see;
love is not about ugly or beauty,
but about what is deep inside,
and the radiant heart that beats within.

Almost Over

Two legs of my race are done, through the Power of The Son,
The Power of His Grace sustains, me as He, above me reigns,
With doctors being used by God, as I’m led with staff and rod,
He led me this far in a race, through the Power of God’s Grace.

Now with the chemo finished, I wait for the effects to diminish,
This, to get all of my feelings back, so no feelings I shall lack,
Friend again I must lean on Grace, until I get back to the place,
When I see the effects subside, while in Christ I patiently abide.

So now I wait for the next stage, when God turns another page,
Whether there’ll be more surgery, this to date, I have yet to see,
For another paragraph in my life, I’ll patiently wait, with my wife,
Who’s been a support all along, a path that has been very long.

So whatever may lie up ahead, I’ll follow my Lord as He has led,
In all of the prior uncertain times, leading me, all by His designs,
Designs that go above all reason, during a much darker season,
This, in my ever changing life, as I follow The Changeless Christ.

The next leg could be the last, which, by my Lord has been cast,
By The Lord and God’s Decree, while His outcome, we shall see,
So if another surgery is a must, in Christ our Lord, we shall trust,
As any end we face in our story, will be for God’s Ultimate Glory.

Laid Up Once More

There is another bend in the road, again with another heavy load,
A heavy load of concern and care, another load in which to bear,
Yes, for another time in this life, I will have to go under the knife,
For The Lord has willed for me, yet, one more necessary surgery.

It’s not only me filled with cares, but, concerns my family shares,
It is especially in times like this, when we trust in The Lord Jesus,
As concerns around us are rife, He comforts my concerned wife.
Who is bearing yet another load, as we travel down another road.

I am not eager for the time ahead, laid up in another hospital bed,
And far away from my normal routine, while in that hospital scene,
Again, limited in all that I can do, while The Lord sees me through,
Back again, with my family instead, while far from a hospital bed.

But The Lord knew well before, I’ll have to enter the hospital door,
And why I needed surgery again, as He guides the hands of men,
While they wield that surgical knife, guided by The Creator of life,
So as they work with their hands, the Lord by me faithfully stands.

All this as God works in my days, for my good and God’s Praise,
As The Lord’s comfort and peace, trumps this now awful disease,
While each day I’m again assured, this battle belongs to my Lord,
As God brings me closer for sure, to His timely and ultimate cure.

Dentist Chair (Fun Poem 99)

Everyone hates the dentist
some much more than me.
Just the thought of the drill
and the light in your eyes
puts the chills up me.

One of my worst encounters
of the dentist chair came in the 1960’s
when a cold in a tooth made my face swell
on one side like a melon
and I could only drink through a straw.
They knocked me out to remove the tooth.
Having no recovery room
they put me back in the waiting room
and sat me in a chair out there.
It was the dawn of the plastic moulded ones
and the one I sat on was so slippery
I kept slipping down.
I mumbled aloud about the dentist being no good.
Some of his patients took one look at me
and decided I was right, then made a hasty exit
from the waiting room.
With the side of my face swollen to the size of a melon
I can understand why.

Another encounter with a dentist
was quite a few years later.
A different dentist with a wholly different approach.
He was having his waiting room decorated
and I was the only one there.
He came in with a Cheshire grin across his face.
“Mr Harris, do you mind if this gentleman
takes out your teeth today? ”
Being I and thinking it was a student,
I said I didn’t mind.
The dentist then said, “He is my interior decorator.”
The smile still implanted on his face.
I nearly ran out of there.

Now the third tale concerns my wife
and she fears the dentist even more than me.
She had an appointment
and when we arrived,
the surgery was closed for lunch.
We went for a little walk
and all the cars we passed had dents in the side.
“See that.” I said.
“Yes.” She replied.
“That’s what the dentist does
when he can’t get his own way.”
As we approached, a corner
there was a church on the other side.
“Why don’t you nip in there for a quick pray
that the dentist doesn’t come back? ”
She thumped me I wonder why.
As we walked back to the surgery I assured her,
that everything was going to be OK.
They calm you as soon as you walk in.
She looked at me suspiciously and asked how?
They have a big mallet just above the door
and bop you on the head as you walk in.
Your teeth fall out in the process
and the job is done.
Now I wonder why she has never asked me
to go to the dentist with her again.

Crash Course In Brain Surgery

(originally recorded by budgie)
Look inside and you will see
The words are cutting deep inside my brain
Thunder burning, quickly burning
Knife of words is driving me insane
Insane, yeah
Raven black is on my track
He shows me how to neutralize the knife
Show to me in surgery
The art of fighting words to conquer life
Conquer life, yeah
[ooooh, ooooh, ooooh, ooooh]
Now the wicked lance of fear
Is driving from my heady mountain brain
Crash course in brain surgery
Has stopped the bloody knife of words again
Yeah, yeah, yeah

A Very Strange Tale

An unexpected and unknown pregnancy
That ushered a series of events
Brought Susan in a state of emergency
Confused in her predicament.

The doctor said she had miscarried
And the bleeding she had was not usual
Her fiance, they were to be married
But now they ended at the hospital.

So they brought her there for surgery
With only her boyfriend now in tow
She called up her mother and said briefly:
'Mom, they're operating on me, you must know.'

When the frantic mother had arrived
Poor Susan was covered in a white sheet.
The mother was told she did not survive
While on surgery, her Death she did meet.

Her sister said she could not believe it -
She had seen Susan in their room weeping,
She was on the bed, dressed in hospital sheets
Crying 'What have they done? I'm aching! '

The sister then asked her. 'How are you?
Are you alright? ' In a flash she had quickly gone
The strangest and weirdest thing came true -
That was the death time of a departed Susan.

Now at night at the hospital corridors
Night shift nurses hear someone weeping
Though dismissed as some silly horrors
Some still see a sad Susan there walking.

Around Another Bend

With a thankful heart I raise, a heart of thanks to God in praise,
For seeing me thru another bend, as I wait for the ultimate end,
That time ahead, when I shall be, back on my feet, cancer free,
Until then, I look to my God, Who’s comforted me with His rod.

Through chemo and two surgeries, I’m now again on my knees,
Asking for His Grace and Mercies, to do just as The Lord sees;
An unpleasant stay at the hospital, but, I know I’m in God’s will,
For it’s times like this He will shine, for I am His and He is mine.

In a hospital and now back home, God cares for me as his own,
And in this stressful time of life, it’s through a caring loving wife,
Helping me through post surgery, well beyond her care normally,
With grace, comfort and her love, that is directed by God above.

I pray for God’s peace of mind, as God puts my surgery behind.
For helping us both to look ahead, filled with His Peace instead,
As The Lord leads me day to day, not in mine, but in God’s way,
For God’s desire in my life, is Glory and Praise, for Jesus Christ.

It’s not mine to know how or why, but, to only trust God on high,
Who has led me this whole journey, even in ways I could not see,
So, I shall again trust in God alone, to guide me from His Throne,
To hear those words spoken to me, that I’m now truly cancer free.
