Maya Angelou

When You Come

When you come to me, unbidden,
Beckoning me
To long-ago rooms,
Where memories lie.

Offering me, as to a child, an attic,
Gatherings of days too few.
Baubles of stolen kisses.
Trinkets of borrowed loves.
Trunks of secret words,

I CRY.

The Attic

Climbing the stairs to the attic up above,
she stopped a moment to think.
What will I find in the rooms so cluttered?
Everything under the sink.

For no one had been curious enough
to see what they could find.
She'd been the one in her family
to never leave anything behind.

And so she entered the musty rooms
and slowly took everything in.
The boxes, the piles and clothes of old
that belonged to most of her kin.

She tried rummaging through pictures
of people she knew right away.
And still there were other faces
whose memories did not stay.

She came upon a picture of two,
two that she did not know.
Completely mesmerized with this picture,
something inside started to grow.

An uneasiness within her heart
for the two looked just like she.
The world stood still for a minute
as she thought 'How can this be? '

And so she searched some more that day
and found her baby photo.
It was attached to a newspaper clipping
that was printed long ago.

'Baby survives. Mom and dad dead
in a terrible wreck.
No identity of the parents that died
Baby girl is just perfect.'

In her mind she knew for sure
a mom and dad had found her,
raised her, loved her as one of their own,
Her eyes all tears and blur.

She knew it was supposed to be
that the attic would always hold
a special meaning for her to keep,
knowledge she kept secret like gold.

The Canvas

Oh how she loves her canvas,
The stories that it tells.
Oh how she loves to paint her thoughts,
And etch a perfect spell.

Oh how she loves her canvas,
The memories that it holds.
Oh how she loves to trace the lines,
And tell if new or old.

Oh how she loves her canvas,
Her stability in an unstable world.
Oh how she loves to fret away,
At all of her unfurled.

Oh how she loves her canvas,
A standstill of art and truth.
Oh how she loves the feel of it,
To reminisce her youth.

Oh how she loves her canvas,
A long work of her life.
Oh how she loves the twisted colors,
Splashes of red upon white.

Oh how she loves her canvas,
She crafts each inch with care.
She hides her canvas well away,
Though she often earns a stare.

Do not tell of her canvas,
Keep the secret- she insists.
But perhaps some time take a second glance,
For her canvas is her wrist.

Loves A No

Written by ricky, kim & marty wilde
Alright - now were alone
I know youre expecting me
To tell you all that Ive been through
Oh sorry, it takes so long
And anyway, its hurting me
So dont ask, it might hurt you too
Maybe Im the fool
To turn down the love youre offering
Thanks - but loves a no (my baby)
Theres too much at stake
Its too soon I know (my baby)
And just too much to take
Sometimes - I get scared
Loving on my own again
Some days I just want to cry
Memories wont set me free
Those memories of how it used to be
Thanks - but loves a no (my baby)
Theres too much at stake
Its too soon I know (my baby)
And just too much to take
No - it wasnt always like this
I used to be the one who was smart
I was a hard girl
I couldnt get caught - I was strong
Oh - but then I got hurt
How I got hurt
Oh darlin - take a little time with me
Darlin - take a little time
Just a little time
One day - I dont know when
Maybe we can try again
Maybe all I need is time
Hold me then say goodbye
Dont hate me - for all the things Ive said
Thanks - but loves a no (my baby)
Theres too much at stake
Its too soon I know (my baby)
And just too much to take
Oh darlin take a little time with me
Oh darlin take a little time
Just a little time

Song: On Borrowed Time

We're all living on borrowed time,
Near the brooding sea and brine.
And we grow our primate's spine,
In every clime.

Since we crawled out from 'neath the grime,
And evolved to a species – prime.
We've been living on borrowed time,
On borrowed time.

On borrowed time. We feed and dine.
On borrowed time. In swill like swine.
On borrowed time. We sup our wine.
On borrowed time. On borrowed time!

On borrowed time. In slow decline.
On borrowed time. No season shines.
On borrowed time. No reason rhymes.
On borrowed time. On borrowed time!

We're all living on borrowed time,
Acting out our roles in mime,
As if you cannot tell that I'm confused.
We're all living on borrowed time,
And we're captured hook and line.
Enraptured lives entwine as minds unloose.

On borrowed time, by frantic chime,
Of doomsday clocks and scam sub-prime.
On borrowed time, we count the dime.
On borrowed time. On borrowed time!

From that day of Eve's droll crime,
When dull Adam su*ked the lime,
We've been living on borrowed time,
On borrowed time.

On borrowed time. By dread defined.
On borrowed time. Knee-deep in slime.
On borrowed time. We moan and whine.
On borrowed time. On borrowed time!

On borrowed time. To heights sublime.
On borrowed time. Statistics climb.
On borrowed time. Who reads the signs?
On borrowed time. On borrowed time!

He Loves You

His love will conquer anger
His love defies all words
He hears all the prayers that are spoken
And all the prayers unheard

His love is unconditional
He loves you when your wrong
He loves you when you disobey
His love for you is strong

He loves you when you stumble
He loves you when you fall
He loves us so much more than words
He really loves us all

He loves you when you call His name
He loves you when you cry
He loves you when your down and out
For us He sent his Son to die

He loves you when you're laughing
He loves you when you smile
He loves it when you praise His name
He loves you, you're his child

His love is never ending
Until the end of time
And once you just embrace His love
Your life will be just fine

For He's got the best intentions
Look at The Son of Man
Be honored through the joy & pain
You're a big part of His plan.

Fairy Song

We the fairies blithe and antic,
Of Dimensions not gigantic,
Though the moonshine mostly keep us,
Oft in orchards frisk and peep us,

Stolen sweets are always sweeter;
Stolen kisses much completer;
Stolen looks are nice in chapels;
Stolen, stolen be your apples.

When to bed the world are bobbing,
Then's the time to go orchard robbing;
Yet the fruit were scarce worth peeling
Were it not for stealing, stealing.

On Borrowed Time

Remember not to say a word
If they ask about me
Say you havent heard
Sweet communion
Of the forbidden kind
I live to love you
Only on borrowed time
Are you waiting
Waiting in the dark
For a message, for a sign
Precious these days
Living our ways
On borrowed time
Yeah
Fallen angel
Where do you hide your heart
Under some angry ? ? ?
Alone you fall apart
Oh, youre not forgotten
Youre always on my mind
Whispering words Im waiting, waiting
Only on borrowed time
Someones praying
Praying for your life
For a miracle or sign
Precious these days
Living our ways
On borrowed time
Ill be waiting
Waiting in the night
For a message, for a sign
Precious there days
Living our ways
On borrowed time

And I Lounged and Lay on Their Beds

When I went to that house of pleasure
I didn't stay in the front rooms where they celebrate,
with some decorum, the accepted modes of love.
I went into the secret rooms
and lounged and lay on their beds.
I went into the secret rooms
considered shameful even to name.
But not shameful to me -because if they were,
what kind of poet, what kind of artist would I be?
I'd rather be an ascetic. That would be more in keeping,
much more in keeping with my poetry,
than for me to find pleasure in the commonplace rooms.

On borrowings

Literature is materials
Stolen from the stocks stolen.
Wealth is materials
Robbed from the stores robbed.
Epics are materials
Of lies from the heaps of lies.
A life is a borrowed one
From the one borrowed in turn.
The world lives on borrowings.
Borrowings gather changes,
Which we call evolution.

One Of These Days

Wish someone would tell me when
I wont think of you again
Ill get past the emptiness and
Let a little happiness back in
Pretending that you came
Leaves me half way there
One of these one of these days
Ill be completely over you
Heaven knows how long it will take
And one of these one of these days
Ill find somebody wholl love your memories away
One of these days
One of these days
Some how some way
Ever since youve been gone
Time has a way of dragging on and on
Friends drive by for company
But Im not much company for long
Oh ill get past the what was
If I live long enough
One of these one of these days
Ill be completely over you
Heaven knows how long it will take
And one of these one of these days
Ill find somebody wholl love your memories away some way
One of these days
One of these days
Some how some way
One of these one of these days
Ill be completely over you
Heaven knows how long it will take
And one of these one of these days
Ill find somebody wholl love your memories away some way

Touch Upon the Shoulder of my Fears

A love was born on Hallows Eve
A love that did naught but ignite the teasing of the girl
For whom I had longed to please for so long yet had never found the opportunity
Nor had I ever been granted access to slip between the thighs of a girl
Within whose eyes I was so sure I would find skies painted a deeper blue.

She remembers not offering up her self to me freely
Asking me to take her in my arms whilst in the next room awaited the girl
To whom one kiss would do the most harm. She awaited whilst I conversed
With what seemed alike the ghost of ancient loves incarnate.

Now in offering yourself to my taking I am naught but making concrete
The mould of my setting – In doing so I am perhaps forgetting the longing I have known – but know that faithfully I belong to the girl who knows nothing of the arrangement of souls I find myself within. In turning away from the offering of the girl for whom I had shed tears for many years – I saw death touch upon the shoulder of my fears and lead them by there ears away, beckoning he came reckoning with the judgement of the hourglass as his only sense of duty.

The Death Papers.... (Part One)

perhaps, we then
are but a series of deaths,
tiny deaths, unclaimed sparks...
or one long death
in illiterate stages,
flesh scarred memories failing,
deeper and deeper in the grain,
the stink of rot, and becoming!
broken wings and stolen kisses,
lips scorched and fingers broken,
beyond names and naming,
beyond words and thinking...
till nothing is left,
but raw sound,
and the veins of the decayed leaf,
shouting silence, and redemption!

Memories in the mind

Memories are made in the mind,
and there if you search, you will find.
There in the mind, so many things,
so many memories it brings.

So many years have passed,
of our youth, away we have cast
some memories happy, some memories sad,
memories have I, when I was a lad.

Memories have I, of a dog named shep,
memories of him, when he kept in step.
Memories of my friends, when we played,
of those days, for ever memories relayed.

Memories of family and fun,
when we talked until the setting of sun.
Memories of washing our fifty-seven Ford,
and wanting things we couldn't afford.

Memories are made in the mind,
long lost, search and you will find,
memories of days gone by,
searching memories, oh how you try.

Memories will fade out,
you have forgotton, what it's about,
memories lost in the mind,
dig them out and you will find.

To love again and remember

To love again and remember
~
To love again and remember
The joys of a youthful laugh
The whispered words of lovers
The giggles and private jokes
Each kiss stolen when possible
A smile as you say beautiful
The curl of the lips raises up
What little joys remain kept
The touch of another’s hand
Holding tightly not letting go
To be in love again and remember
Every little private pleasure
In the heart which is singing
All the joys of being in love
Aloud and in secret it is clear
How happy it is to remember
The joys of a youthful laugh
Private jokes and kisses stolen
Smiling through whispered words
Eyes looking into each other
Oh to love again and remember

Six Words Long

This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
Couldn't think of any lyrics
No i never wrote the lyrics
So i'll just sing any old lyrics
That come to mind, child
You really need words
Whole lotta rhyming words
You gotta rhyme so many words, mm-mm
To do it, to do it, to do it, to do it
To do it, to do it right, child
This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
I know that you're probably sore
'cause i didn't write any more
I just didn't get to complete it
So that's why i gotta repeat it
This song is just six words long (six words long)
This song is just six words long (six words long)
Oh i make a lotta money
They pay me a ton of money
They're payin' me plenty of money
To sing this song, child
I gotta fill time
Three minutes worth of time
Oh, how will i fill so much time, mm-mm
I'll throw in a solo, a solo, a solo
A solo, a solo here
This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
This song is just six words long
This song's got nothin' to say
But i'm recording it anyway
I know if i put my mind to it
I know i could find a good rhyme here
Oh, you gotta have-a music
You need really catchy music
This song has got plenty of music
But just six words, child
And so i'll sing' em over
And over and over and over
And over and over and over, mm-mm
And over and over and over
And over and over and over again
Six words long, six words long
Six words long, six words long
Six words long, six words long
This song is just six words long
It's just six words long

Last Words Of A Poet

The last words that I ever say
will just be words that fade away
after my loves are gone.
For they are the only ones who knew
how these words that I did speak
would leave as all words do.

But still I will say them with grateful praise
so my loves will remember all their days
my joy on each new dawn.
For they were the ones whose eyes did see
all of the words I wrote
and left for them joyfully.

Each Days Passing

Thoughts mull around in my head
of loves I won and lost.
Faces appear in a dream state
as the past flickers by.

Each face holds angelic beauty
of when the loves were young,
never growing old in my mind
as they belong to a different time.

Now sometimes I wish
those days were back again
with their smiles and laughter
that flowed like fine red wine.

Back again to capture my soul,
away from the beckoning dark reality
that follows me
with each days passing.
