Status Quo [Revised]
Reaction to a snack of substances my digestion
rejects as banned has me staring at this screen
in stupefaction - unable to interpret anything
Floating in an emotional void, clinging to the fact
I’m in an office, trying to read and react to texts
that remain mysterious to me, at least this way
The world will still be a mystery; I cannot achieve
mastery of anything while consciousness flickers
on and off, caught in the wild fire of interrupted
Brain circuitry & gyrating synapses, dark spots
in front of my eyes weakening my sight, desperately
trying to do research till I give up, sit back in defeat,
Power spent, admit the day is lost, cannot find the
beginning of a line of thought, cannot follow a single
argument, even pictures dance away from me,
surrendering to the confusion, accepting the
chaos in my mind as status quo…

Reflections on the Television Set
You can catch her staring at the television glares.
Painting pictures in her mind.
Trying to grasp what a sight she would be
If she were beautiful,
Like them.
[Strayed fingerprints speckle the screen, outlined by a thin layer of dust]
*You can catch her sitting by the ocean.
Keeping rhythm with the ebb, breathing out as it flows.
Big dark brown eyes, a strong contrast to her powdery skin.
A slender waist, forming a perfect figure down to her toes.
All accented by her long dark hair.
Falling below her shoulders, above her waist.,
With light curls forming shadows against the moonlight.
She reaches out to feel the ocean,
Her fingers stopped by glass,
Where a girl can be caught staring at her through the glares.
The screen begins to rot,
Colors fade to black.
The pictures die off,
And she's forced to face
Her reflection on the television set.
[Strayed fingerprints speckle the screen, outlined by a thin layer of dust]
*The motion is involuntary, she just needs to pull the trigger.
Fingers pry into her throat, digging out her insides.
She digs deeper, setting her insides to flames,
She watches the ashes pile up, until she's left empty.
You can find her where the blood stains the tile.
Trying to grasp what a sight she would be,
If she looked just like the pictures
Reflected on the television set.

To Be Here
An article about health benefits of
honey and cinnamon, immediately
bought some, made a tea of warm
water and honey, tasted heavenly,
only now I'm too sleepy
To research obscure terms, not a
single word makes sense, too much
honey obliviously is not good, where
only a half tablespoon of honey in a
glass is recommend
I added more than double that amount
to my tea and now I can't see, dark spots
in front of my eyes, conscience turned off
so I only sit and read uncomprehendingly
staring desolately
After studying my text I still have no clue
what the complainant means and time has
stopped, I am caught in an eternal moment
of inefficient fatigue - instead of being more
alert and flexible as promised
I'm totally somnambulant, it is all I can do
to be here, nothing can be produced - the
spirit is willing but the body and mind have
already resigned, I can only offer my token
presence to officialdom

Noctournal Emissions
Well I'm lying in bed sweating staring at the ceiling, in my brain I have painted a beautiful picture of you, I'm not even going to try to fall asleep tonight, I don't want to lost the picture in my mind, in my mind.
[ Chorus ]
Then I close my eyes and quickly drift away
magically transported to another time and place
hold away
magically transported to another time and place
hold you in my arms and we go whirling through the air
going all four directions, heading straight for nowhere
I wake up in cold sweat come to grips with reality
take a deep breath lay back down wearing my badge of infamy
when the bulb in my nightlight flickers, flickers, flickers and dies, I'm left alone, staring at my ceiling once again
[ Chorus ]
It's my nocturnal emission

Full of an Emptiness
I am full of an emptiness,
Which empties me of my fullness.
I am feeding my starving ego,
While never nourishing my soul which can always be satisfied.
The spirit never ends but I try to tempt it with things that do.
Earthly pleasures, to find heavenly treasures?
Money, power and control do not fill me up.
I always want more.
I can never get enough.
Love, joy and peace.
I have none.
Yet it is all I truly need.
It is only this that will fill me up.
My spirit is allergic to the things of this world.
Yet my mind tells me to feast on more,
My mind is the starving pig.
Feasting on the droppings of the world.
And so I eat from the bottom, which is the world.
My living Hell.
Earth is chaos, Heaven is peace.
I look up and see an endless sky.
These are my possibilities should I follow the spirit.
I look to the ground and see how far is the fall.
But it is only once I have fallen, and hit the ground.
That I can get back up.
Rise above my circumstances.
Rise above the pleasures.
To seek and pursue the treasures.
That were promised to all.
Even before my time here.
If I get, what I give.
And what I give is nothing,
It is nothing I will get back in the end.
So why do I keep giving only what I can take?
Am I giving of things that have a beginning and an ending?
Or do I give what is endless?
The anger I feel because I thought someone was stealing from me,
Is really what I simply robbed myself of in the first place.
Peace, joy and love.
It is mine to share.
For if I share it,
It can never be stolen from me.
In the end, it is only my legacy I leave behind.
Money will be spent.
Power will run out.
Control will be lost.
To be without money is to be broke.
I am broken.
To be without power is to be powerless.
I am powerless.
If I get what I give, then I am what I am.
If I am control, then I am controlled and controlling
If I am peace, then I am peaceful
If I am joy, then I am joyous
If I am love, then I am loving and loved.
That is all I ever wanted and ever needed in the first place.

Cinderella Will Return To Her Place…
I was not prepared to admit to depression
and failure to control my reaction to food,
did my duties as noisily as I could, until
sinking down in a swoon all exhausted –
yesterday I thought I could deal with the
consequences of living and eating in style,
undertaking to do my best the very next
day, insisting that life was made for living –
but now I must admit to defeat, even lost
my escape through the mind as my brain
is caving in - therefore Cinderella will return
to her place, her diet that will bring her mind
back – forget about living, your valid criticism
about her poor performance, even missing
the absurdity of Gray’s Anatomy that had
you in stitches; a clear indication that it is
time to do it right, to cut out the hedonism
that enlarges the feet, so that she cannot
wear the glass slippers to go to the ball…

Single Woman
Single bars and single women
With a single thought in mind
Just to make it till the morning
Looking for what they can find
For a man they won't remember
For a night they can't forget
Do you come to this place often?
May i light your cigarette?
Drinkin' beer in amarillo
Passing time and swaping jokes
Hoping for a new beginning
But beginning to lose hope
And you're waiting for that moment
When a glance becomes a stare
Mmm, what's that perfume that you're wearing?
Haven't i met you somewhere?
Find a matchbook in the morning
With a name and number scrawled
When you phone, a woman answers
And you wish you'd never called
Oh, they're friendly when they meet you
But they're strangers when they go
Ahh, do you mind if i come join you?
Would you like to dance one more?
And it's gettin' near to closing
And the seconds pass like years
Lots of friends to share the laughter
Not a one to share the tears
Oh and you wish they'd change that juke box
Cause you know every song it plays
Can i drop you off at my place?
Oh, what's the matter, are you gay?
You gotta twenty in your pocket
Got your toothbrush in your purse
Life could get a whole lot better
But it better not get worse
Single bars and single women
With a single thought in mind
Just to make it till the morning
Looking for what they can find

And Pray Tell
And pray tell why was it you
that came and took my mind?
Was it that you searched for me
or was I not your find?
Why not some other one to seek
and take over their brain?
Whatever the reason, I am lost
and so I do remain
entranced by the seeking
and feeling the weakening
in my ability to have you gone.
'Don't go. Don't leave.' that's what I hear
repeating in my brain.
Its incessant call is a constant,
like a melodic refrain
that never wants to end.

I Didn't Ask And She Didn't Say
Fogged in in Dallas
On my way to LA
Staring up at the screen
All flights were delayed
When a voice from behind me asked
Stranger, how have you been?
Well, I was caught off guard
When I saw her face
Stumbled my way through an awkward embrace
Then somehow I managed to say
Good to see you again
We caught up on old friends
Caught up on old times
But all through the small talk
It kept burning though my mind
Does she think about the nights we spent on Crystal Lake?
Wrapped up in a blanket till the break of day
So many times I've wondered
Does she think of me that way
I didn't ask
And she didn't say
Trading stories
And pictures of kids
Things we're gonna do and things we never did
Till stranded in that moment
Not sure what to say
Then she broke the silence
With her little shy smile
She brought up the weather
But all the while
I wonder if she thinks about Jackson Hole
Nights beside the fire and angels in the snow
So many times I've wondered
Does she think of me that way
I didn't ask
And she didn't say
We said our goodbyes
Swore we'd stay in touch
Then we went our separate ways
Knowing no one ever does
But I couldn't help but wonder
As I walked away
If things had turned out different
Where would we be today
So many times I've wonder
Does she think of me that way
I didn't ask
And she didn't say
No, I didn't ask
And she didn't say

Emotional Storm
Seeking refuge in the surreal atmosphere
of the opera Tales of Hoffmann, my mind
imploding, falling in upon itself in violent
reaction to an overdose of politics
No comfort as yet in the safety of the library,
no intellect left - cannot reflect - a strangling
headache, got a book to cushion the leftover
splinters of my emotions, to cool the fever
Of hatred for cold political texts that reduce
me to the state of a vegetable, Jung’s tests
said this reaction is immature, everybody
must learn to get along without the lure
Of imagination and beauty; Sonia Choquette
said we should be inured to images of pain,
violence and suffering; so be it, I cannot pass
the threshold of pain caused by such studies
Tried so hard I lost my mind, feels like my
brain cannot recuperate - no synapse will
ever fire again, listening to Barcarolle over
and over, the only calming sound
In this emotional storm...

The Dance Of Life
the steps are easy to follow
if we only follow
repetitive in fact and
numbered and it is the same
music all over again
handed to us
but something happens
interpolations and
matters are interchanged
substituted and prostituted
the steps become harder to follow
in fact unpredictable and surprising
this dance becomes so interesting
somehow i get out from the waiting line
jump into the circle and dance
the strange music that is played
eclectic, exotic, magical
bathing in my own perspiration i signal to you
saying that i am beginning to like it
this is the dance of uncertainty where tomorrow
may not come

Mind Searching
I was drifting through the chambers
of imagination, deep in my mind,
searching desperately for inspiration,
but it was proving so hard to find.
Visions of nonsense appeared,
as a smoke screen in my head.
It seemed the brain was delaying
creative ideas from being read.
Imbalances of clouded colour
flooded the chambers of my mind.
One by one, thoughts became stifled,
visualization I couldn’t find.
For some strange unknown reason
there was disagreement in my head.
Mind and brain were in turmoil
until the problem was sorted.
Attempts by the brain to cloud my mind
this time thankfully failed.
Inspiration is now clearly flowing,
but next time, which will prevail.

Jimi Thing
Lately Ive been feeling low
A remedy is what Im seeking
I take a taste of whats below
Come away to something better
What I want is what Ive not got
And what I need
Is all around me
Reaching searching never stop
And Ill say...
If you could keep me floating
Just for a while
Till I get to the end of this tunnel mommy
If you could keep me floating
Just for a while
Ill get back to you
Sometimes a jimi thing slides my way and keeps me swinging
Id like to show you whats inside
And I shouldnt care
If you dont like it
Brother chaos rule all about
Sometimes I walk there
Well yes God knows sometimes I take a bus there
Shouldnt care shouldnt care
Bereaved as Im feeling
The day is gone
Im on my back
Staring up at the ceiling
U take a drink sit back relax
Smoke my mind make me feel
Better for a small time
What I want is what Ive not got
And what I need is all around me
Reaching searching never stop
And Ill say...
If you could keep me floating
Just for a while
Till I get to the end of this tunnel mommy
If you could keep me floating
Just for a while
Ill get back to you

Losing My Mind
“I think...”
I thought
but I had no sooner
thought the thought
than it claimed
independence from me.
“Thought is free! ”
it shouted in ringing Shakespearean tones.
I acted
at once
imprisoned it
in some deep dank dark dungeon
at the back of my mind
knowing that
if it succeeded
in seceding from me
& gained autonomy
that other thoughts
would come
(one upon one)
until they eclipsed
me in a wink
think me
out of existence.
I put down
the rebellion
with extreme
prejudice
but now find
I have inaugurated
Guerrilla warfare
as thoughts
snipe at me
blow up the bridges
of consciousness
that I think
into being.
I feel myself
weakening
and fear becoming
a prisoner
in my own
mind
kept in chains
(mentally speaking)
by the Thought
Police
and what
I am
thinking
of trying not to
think.

Emotional Highway
Heard youre up to no good
Doin everything I never would
Shakes me up
Brings me down
Puts my world six feet underground
Well I need to know whats going on
Before I lose my mind
If I catch you with her I dont know what Ill do
When I get home what will I find
Whoa emotional highway
Driving all night and day through the pouring rain
Ive heard a rumor now
Ive got to find out for myself
If my babys giving his heart to someone else
Well my minds playing tricks
To think of you and her just makes me sick
Every mile that I go
I keep praying I dont lose control
Well the road is long and conditions are bad
And all I think about is you
I dont have time to wait in line
Move over mister
Ive gotta get through
Whoa emotional highway
Driving all night and day through the pouring rain
Ive heard a rumor now
Ive got to find out for myself
If my babys getting it on with someone else
Emotional highway
Emotional highway
Emotional highway, emotional, emotional, emotional
Baby baby I know that were two of a kind
Thats why Ive got suspicion on my mind
Whoa emotional highway
Driving all night and day through the pouring rain
Ive heard a rumor now
Ive got to find out for myself
If my babys me up for someone else
Emotional highway
Emotional highway
Emotional highway, emotional, emotional, emotional
Got to get back, get back to my baby
Emotional highway
Emotional highway
Emotional highway, emotional, emotional, emotional
Got to get back, get back to my baby

Did I Say That?
So this is what it feels like
To be the one left behind
To give it all you've got, then find
You've already changed your mind
And this is what it sounds like
Crying on the bed that we both made
Waiting for a sign that you just can't give me
Any kind of sign
I don't want to be here wide-awake
Clinging to a love that can't be saved
Hanging off the edge of every word
That you say
And so I asked myself, "Do I love you so much
That I'm willing to let you go?"
At the tip of my tongue the answer was "yes"
But, at the botoom of my heart I'm wondering...
Did I say that?
Did I say that?
Sometimes you know I over react
And what I say is not a matter of fact
And I wish that I could take it all back
And you know I'd drag myself through fire at your side
And you know the gates of Heaven are surely open wide
And I need some sympathy here
And I need someone to call my own
I'm standing in the the light of my mistakes
And begging you, "come home."
And I know you need some time to run and hide
But the truth is hard to swallow when you're choking on your pride
And so I asked myself, "Do I love you so much
That I'm willing to let you go?"
At the tip of my tongue the answer was "yes"
But, at the botoom of my heart I'm wondering...
Did I say that?
Did I say that?
Sometimes you know I over react
And what I say is not a matter of fact
And I wish that I could take it all back
But I said that
And I wish that I could take it all back
And I need some sympathy here
And I want a love to call my own
I want to take you in the back seat now
And slowly drive you home
And I know you need some time to run and hide
But the truth is hard to swallow when you're choking on your pride
I don't want to be this wide-awake Fighting for a love that I can't save
And hanging off the edge of every word you say
Knowing that it might make me cry
I don't want to be this complicating
You can drag it out but I'll be waiting
I stumbled on "I love you" tonight
But it sounded like goodbye
Did I say that?
Did I say that?
Did I tell you that I loved you cause it
Would have been a matter of fact?
Did I say that?
This time I'm not letting go
Did I say that?
This time I'll have and I'll hold
Did I tell you that I loved you cause it
Would have been a matter of fact?
Did I say that?
This time I'm walking through fire
Did I say that?
This time I'll feed my desire
Did I say that?
This time I'll stand by your side
Did I say that?
This time I will be your pride
Did I say that?
This time I'm not letting go
Did I say that?
This time I'll have and I'll hold
Did I say that?
This time I'm walking through fire
Did I say that?
And I wish that I could take it all back
So this is what it feel like

That you've already changed your mind

Until Your Face Turns Blue Or Red
You can attack what I've said all you want.
In fact you have an open invitation.
But you will never be able to decipher,
What is in my head.
You can dig with a shovel...
Until your face turns blue or red.
To chill or heat from what's been said.
Or determine to conclude from what you've read!
You are not aware from where my thoughts begin.
Or 'who' is behind the 'what'
That influences them!
There is a process that has no specific beginning,
Or an ending that could satisfy me within.
My tongue unleashes with words that seem to spin...
From eyes I have not yet seen,
And apparently neither does 'this thing' screen.
Revealing with a meaning,
From other dimensions we exist in!
Defining with comprehension,
As I receive these mental visions.
I am used like a human instrument...
With a consciousness,
I am neither for nor against...
As I am just the participant.
And accepting how this happens without a defense,
That pleases me to know it is intended!
Like you,
I too am a witness!

That Which I Have Lost
Hes fighting the forces of darkness limitation
Falsehood and mortality which bar him
The way back into the higher world
While his whole being is bewildered
He does not know - no law of action
Taking refuge inside himself and hes saying
I need someone to show me
Illumine my consciousness
Remove the dark from in me
And give me that which I have lost
As all had seemed lost a light from heaven
Breaking
A flash - inward illumination
Enriched his life more than any words can tell
He stood there, life renewed fresh as rain
Scales were falling from his eyes again
The bolts of his prison opening - hes saying
I found someone who showed me
Illumined my consciousness
Removed the dark from in me
And given me that which I have lost
You people dont have time to listen to him
Youre too busy fighting revolutions
That keep you back down in the lower world
Your mirrors of understanding they need
Cleansing
Polish away the dust of desire
Before pure light will reflect in them
You need someone to show you
Illumine your consciousness
Remove the dark from in you
And give you that which you have lost.

Gravity
Lost again
Broken and weary
Unable to find my way
Tail in hand
Dizzy and clearly unable to
Just let this go
I am surrendering to gravity and the unknown
Catch me heal me lift me back up to the sun
I choose to live
I fell again
Like a baby unable to stand on my own
Tail in hand
Dizzy and clearly unable to just let this go
I am surrendering to gravity and the unknown
Catch me heal me lift me back up to the sun
I choose to live, I choose to live, I choose to live
Catch me heal me lift me back unto the sun
Help me survive the bottom
Calm these hands before they
Snare another pill and
Drive another nail down another
Needy hole please release me
I am surrendering to gravity and the unknown
Catch me heal me lift me back up to the sun
I choose to live, I choose to live

Not Having the Power
What has been done...
I took it personal.
Thinking of myself too much at times.
Wanting more to give...
With less I have prejudged,
That you will from me accept.
And not caring at all,
If you need sometimes to step away.
Not only from me.
But all the chaos, confusion and hypocrisy.
It's all over the place.
And I find myself wishing I could erase it!
What has been done...
I took it personal.
Believing I'm some God's gift to the World.
Like a Mother Teresa,
With patience to listen to everyone...
From Alaska to Bangladesh!
Hugging those I meet,
As I trek from Juno...
To rowboat alone across the Bay of Bengal.
Arriving to find I have not enough to give,
To those in Chittagong.
Awaiting the treasures I have promised.
And my eyes fill with tears.
I get upset,
Regretting that it shows.
What has been done...
I took it personal.
Thinking of myself too much at times.
Wanting more to give...
With less I have prejudged,
That you will from me accept.
Not caring at all,
If you need sometimes to step away.
Not only from me.
But all the chaos, confusion and hypocrisy.
And that has to disturb you...
As much as it does me.
And I apologize...
For not having the power,
To remove that from your heart,
Or your eyes...
Or the lives of those I love!
