Lost The Script
I’ve lost the script, chapter and verse, everything
I say and do just comes out wrong, a perfect time
to write a book, the protagonist is young, singing
the role of Christine in Phantom, a brilliant cook
Goes overseas, dances the Sugar Plum Fairy in the
Nutcracker Suite - back to reality: the steel pins came
out, the leg bent at the knee, pain excruciating, even
worse is the heartbreak of knowing Nico lost
Such bitter tears - my story progresses as we drive up
and down - the protagonist also reads philosophy at
university, a versatile personage in the tradition of
the independent woman described by Jane Austin
Her heroines never married for expediency; Carine’s
salary has been halved – a shock all around – you
changed into a lightning bolt; threatening to annul
our marriage because I sullenly refuse to serve
Endless glasses of wine, I’m angry; weak muscles
indicate special treatment is needed; yet you both
refuse to consult the experts, saying walking will
happen all by itself – I am resigned – maybe
Another miracle will manifest, it happened before,
why not again, right here, right now?

I Refuse
Everythings heaven sent
Thats what you said and went
Inside your fairy glass
Somethin you think will last
And when they crop you like a clown
You got your smile on upside down
B-baby I refuse
(I do refuse)
Uh, you can pick or choose
(I do refuse)
Find omebody else to use
(I do refuse)
cause I refuse to come along
And everythings on a whim
Thats what you said to him
Lyin in wunderlust
Are feelings you never trust
And when they pamper you with ice
I cant believe you dont think twice
Uh baby I refuse
(I do refuse)
Uh, you can pick or choose
(I do refuse)
Find somebody else to use
(I do refuse)
cause I refuse to come along
And everyone makes the play
With nothing left much to say
Theyre all in an endless line
Waiting for equal time
They keep screaming its the truth
And you keep kneelin in the booth
Oh baby I refuse
(I do refuse)
Uh, you can pick or choose
(I do refuse)
Find somebody else to use
(I do refuse)
cause I refuse to come along
Oh, I do refuse
(I do refuse)
Oh, you got nothin to lose
(I do refuse)
Find somebody else to use
(find somebody else to use)
(I do refuse)
cause I refuse to come along
I refuse
(I do refuse)
Ah, oo-oo
(I do refuse)
(find somebody else to use)
(I do refuse)
cause I refuse to come along
I refuse
(I do refuse)
Oo, oh got nothin to lose
(I do refuse)
(find somebody else to use)

Dance With Nutcracker Prince
My guru recommends positive, joyous
anticipation, promising the universe is
abundant; it struck me that on October
the tenth I ordered a Nutcracker ballet
DVD with Mikhail Baryshnikov, no less,
in the leading role, and it is already the
twenty-sixth
I had better do research as to why the
dear Mr Plaatjes in charge of my quest
has not produced the desired DVD as
yet, given that he is the hands through
which the universe will provide - and I
am the orchestrator who said I wanted
to watch
The Sugar Plum Fairy dance the grand

A Married Man's A Fool
(Willie McTell)
Had a friend, Louie Brown, he was a deacon
Just as wise as he could be
Now I realized he could read the Good Book
Back from Revelations down to Genesis
You know last Sunday morning we was over to the church
My buddy wants to take him a stand
And he looks out upon that whole congregation
The Good Book in his hand
Now he cast his eye about, and then he looks over in the Amen Corner
All the sisters commenced to shout [What'd he say ?]
He said a married man's a fool to think that his wife love nobody else but him
She stick by you all your life the chances is mighty slim
Now you read the Good Book, chapter twenty-one:
Every married woman got to have a little fun
Read on over chapter twenty-two:
It's a sin to let that woman make a fool outta you
Now you read a little further, chapter twenty-three:
She two-time you, brother, like she double-crossed me
Read on back, over chapter ten:
She shimmy one time, you got the problem again
'Cause a married man's a fool to think that his wife
Loves nobody else but him, I mean, loves nobody else but him
Well, a married man's a fool to think that his wife
Loves nobody else but him
She stands by you all your life the chances is mighty and slim
Now you read on over twenty-fifth page:
Married womens, Lord, is hard to engage
Read kinda careful, chapter twenty-six:
Back door slamming you got to learn to get it fixed
Read on out, chapter twenty-eight:
Who's that back slidin' out through the back gate ?
I believe I'll close on chapter twenty-nine:
Woman get tired of the same man all the time
'Cause a married man's fool to think that his wife love nobody else but him

Angry Young Woman
Angry young woman on sunrise strip,
Walking away to the new world.
She left her man, she left her children,
cause she knows she has only one life to live.
Angry young woman with her background on her forehead,
Three children and two abortions.
Played a little piano ten years ago.
And some typing from the college where she met her husband.
Angry young woman in the dark of the night,
Hears her children crying for dinner,
Hears her man shouting for his shirt
And thinks of the first sundays they spent in the park.
Angry young woman, angry young woman,
Theres no way back, so just keep walking.
Leave your past in your raincoat pocket
And when you turn the corner youll see the new world.
Angry young woman, angry young woman,
Theres no way back, so just keep walking.
Leave your past in your raincoat pocket
And when you turn the corner youll see the new world.
(angry young woman, angry young woman,
Theres no way back, so just keep walking.
Leave your past in your raincoat pocket)

The Book Of My Life
Let me watch by the fire and remember my days
And it may be a trick of the firelight
But the flickering pages that trouble my sight
Is a book I'm afraid to write
It's the book of my days, it's the book of my life
And it's cut like a fruit on the blade of a knife
And it's all there to see as the section reveals
There's some sorrow in every life
If it reads like a puzzle, a wandering maze
Then I won't understand 'til the end of my days
I'm still forced to remember,
Remember the words of my life
There are promises broken and promises kept
Angry words that were spoken, when I should have wept
There's a chapter of secrets, and words to confess
If I lose everything that I possess
There's a chapter on loss and a ghost who won't die
There's a chapter on love where the ink's never dry
There are sentences served in a prison I built out of lies.
Though the pages are numbered
I can't see where they lead
For the end is a mystery no-one can read
In the book of my life
There's a chapter on fathers a chapter on sons
There are pages of conflicts that nobody won
And the battles you lost and your bitter defeat,
There's a page where we fail to meet
There are tales of good fortune that couldn't be planned
There's a chapter on god that I don't understand
There's a promise of Heaven and Hell but I'm damned if I see
Though the pages are numbered
I can't see where they lead
For the end is a mystery no-one can read
In the book of my life
Now the daylight's returning
And if one sentence is true
All these pages are burning
And all that's left is you
Though the pages are number

Refuse (Song)
burning in the blazing heat
i would tell the guitar
its time to refuse
all the souls are need in a break
going back to home
refusing the symphony
you give
time to refuse(3)
refuse refuse
life not meant to refuse
but refuse death
you refuse life
the stakes are high
id tell the guitar
its time
time to refuse
burning in the blazing heat
i would tell the guitar
its time to refuse
climb the highest tower
you were born a star
the world will know you
born that way
born to be special
yeah yeah yeah
your gonna make it
i know
i know your gonna make it
escape refuse from the paradise
refuse
You dont have to roll the dice
yeah yeah
your gonna make it
refuse! ! !

Bitter Twist
how was your mother with the news?
did she really like me?
i know that i ain't the nicest girl
but tell her i'm trying
pre-chorus:
i'm trying to clean up the
house that i live in and i'm trying to pay off
all the debts i made
and i'm trying to make myself
look pretty with make up
oh lord i try but your mom looks
at me with those evil eyes'cos
chorus 1:
i messed you up in a bitter
twis tonight
hit the floor and put you down
i've always found that
i messed you up in a bitter twist tonight
hit the floor and put you down
i'm changed woman from now
verse 2:
so i dream and my dreams
have always failed
i come across frightening
and you're an achiever with high grades
so why do you like me
pre-chorus 2:
but if your gonna stay i'll be what
you wnat me to be
and if you stick around i'll make you
breakfast right
and just hold on a little bit longer my baby
i tell you now once i was lost
but now i'm found 'cos
chorus 2:
i messed you up in a bitter
twist tonight
hit the floor and put you down
i've always found that
i messed you up in a bitter
twist tonight
hit the floor and put you down
i'm changed woman from....
and now 'cos i messed you up
in a bitter twist tonight
hit the floor and put you down
i've always found that
i messed you up in a bitter twist tonight
hit the floor and put you down
i'm changed woman from now
bridge:
the day that i realized that i did you wrong
tying both your hands and heart
so i could run on
weak girl with a messed up mind
that's what i want breaking down in
desperate heartache
if i could take it back i'd give you-acapo

Sea Of Heartbreak
Oh the lights in the harbour-our-our
They don't shine for me-ee-ee-ee
I'm like a lost shi-ip
Adrift on the sea-ea-ea
Sea of heartbreak, lost love and loneliness
Memories of your caress, so divi-i-ine
How I wish you were mi-ine again my dear-ear-ear
I'm on the sea of tears, sea of heartbreak
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Oh-oh how did I lose you-ou-ou
Oh where, where did I fai-ai-ail
Why-y-y-y did you leave me
Always to sai-ai-ai-ail
The sea of heartbreak, lost love and loneliness
Memories of your caress, so divi-i-ine
How I wish you were mi-ine again my dear-ear-ear
I'm on the sea of tears, sea of heartbreak
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Oh what I'd gi-ive to sail back to shore-ore
Back to your ar-ar-arms once more-ore-ore
Come to my rescue-ue-ue
Oh co-o-ome here to me-ee-ee
Oh-oh take me, take me and keep me-ee-ee
Away-ay-ay from the sea-ea-ea
Sea of heartbreaks, lost love and loneliness
Memories of your caress, so divi-i-ine
How I wish you were mi-ine again my dear-ear-ear
I'm on the sea of tears
Sea of heartbreak, lost love and loneliness
Memories of your caress, so divi-i-ine
How I wish you were mi-ine again my dear-ear-ear
I'm on the sea of tears, sea of heartbreak

Elegy For A Lost Friend
(Note to the reader: I never intended to write something as angry as this, but to get something from out of my system so strong, I felt I had to…. My apologies if anything within this poem sounds offensive….)
We were children at school. It was 1975 we met.
I recall it so clearly, how could I forget.
You were lovely, you had it all, you were wild,
We had a ball.
And later you had wit, and intelligence so much
And how glad I had found you, had found you,
What luck.
The years went swiftly and we parted for Uni,
Some years we lost, but regained the time
As professional careers beckoned,
Our friendship returned so fine,
And to the Olympian heights of Oxford you went,
Living a fantasy, Evelyn Waugh-esque life,
Never knowing that it would become your eventual downfall,
Because it was there you met your wife.
I never liked her, nor her family, nor liked her desire to hunt.
I’d always seen her as pathetically hollow,
Had she been a pool you would never have drowned,
She was simply that shallow.
But you besotted, and love renders the wise blind,
I saw her destroy you, love, destroy you over time.
You parted in 1992. She’d taken enough, she didn’t need you.
Returning to Oxford with another fool in tow, I was so angry.
The years of drink then took its toll. I saw your career fold,
It was all so painful, no story could have told,
The truth that lay behind her lies. I cannot think of anything about her,
Except for the word ‘despise’.
I tried to stop what you had done, reverse you back,
Back from where you had originally come from.
But I lost the war, I lost the fight,
For you had gone, my friend, you had lost life’s brilliant
Light.
I last saw you in the nursing home. It was over a year ago, a while
I know.
The looks now faded, your brilliant mind lost,
A day is confusion; the past has dearly cost.
Your eyes that sparkled have lost their lustre of wit,
And all for what? Some silly bitch? A pompous, pseudo upper-class git.
In sportswear you sit, smoking in silence, as I tried to speak.
But to you, I’m not there. The room is silent, to you, you’re alone,
So after two hours I get my coat and drive home.
Tears dash the road ahead. Tears mist the rushing scene,
There is nothing I can do, life is so obscene.
As in my mind I still picture you there – lost in vacant stare.
Life can be so unfair.
Life can be so unfair………………………..

Epic love story.
It was not meant to be,
its a chapter closed and finished.
An epic story of loves young dream,
has faded and diminished.
A fairy tail of happiness,
was not a mutual ending.
For i remember the chapter closing,
with bitterness and hatred.
It started of typically,
a once upon a dream.
page after page was wrote,
with all our history.
An unprofound tale of love,
nurtured with inquisitive minds.
Had run its course long ago,
I've said all my good byes,
The book is now forgotten,
and its shrouded all in dust.
An epic story of loves young dream,
best forgotten and lost.

In fact, some reviewers have said that as they got into the story they forgot that the protagonist is a black woman. They were moved by the story - by the people as a whole - and not by the little things.

I Need A Miracle
I need a woman bout twice my age
A lady of nobility, gentility and rage
Splendor in the dark, lightning on the draw
Well go right through the book and break each and every law.
I got a feeling and it wont go away, oh no
Just one thing then Ill be ok
I need a miracle every day.
I need a woman bout twice my height
Statuesque, raven-dressed, a goddess of the night.
Her secret incantations, a candle burning blue
Well consult the spirits maybe theyll know what to do.
And its real and it wont go away, oh no
I cant get around and I cant run away
I need a miracle every day.
I need a woman bout twice my weight
A ton of fun who packs a gun with all her freight
Find her in a sideshow leave her in l.a.
Ride her like a surfer running on a tidal wave.
And its real, believe what I say, yeah
Just one thing I got to say
I need a miracle every day.
It takes dynamite to get me up
Too much of everything is just enough
One more thing I just got to say
I need a miracle every day,
I need a miracle every day,
I need a miracle every day, (got to be the only way)
I need a miracle

A Surrreal Place
Escape, for me, is reading a book
based on Terry Pratchett's 'Thief of Time' where
perfect moments are kept in a glass palace – I have
decided to dream about 'perfect moments' and keep
them divine, unspoiled by the one-dimensional
interpretation of inter-subjective reality
Making my escape to a surreal place - an
unending glass palace - perfect moments
kept in space - resembling Indra’s heaven
every perfect pearl strung in such a way to
reflect every other pearl
A hologram in which virtual reality allows us
to learn how to fulfil our dreams and Carine
happy today, fulfilling my vision of her warm
and content - a sweet dream unfolding in
my heart - frozen blossoms
Will start blooming one day - and once bearing
fruit, a new dream will manifest, imparting the
happy glow of quantum physics in which a Mr
Darcy stares at Elizabeth and a Mr Rochester
calls on Jane Eyre - why -
Because we always recreate the world
in our minds

Magic of Folklore
The folklore of the countryside
Accepts the toadstool ring
In the belief that all lost fairies
Congregate there to dance and sing.
They sing a lullaby to the young
Then hum to the old and weak
But it is their strong tradition
That lost faires never speak.
They all spread kindness
By a flutter of their wings
As they catch cobwebs in the dew
To form many fairy swings.
Gossamer is gathered
To make cradles for the young
Then they play around the toadstool ring
As flower bells are rung.
Fairy dust is sprinkled
In excitement to the sky above
To ensure that every fairy
Is blessed with everlasting love.
If ever you should tiptoe by
Please pause a little while
I`m sure those poor lost fairies
Would be charmed to see your smile.

All The Emotion Evoked
Now where shall I take the high tide of emotion
seeing that I have finished reading the story of
Tiffany Aching - the book is too short; the great
promise of it beginning when she demanded a
full-scale hearing while every element seemed
to be against her - which made me shudder on
her behalf - turned benevolent universe MUCH
too soon and with the odds not stacked against
her victory was too easy and she was given all
help, suddenly she was such a sure-fire winner
riding the tide and I no longer identified with the
protagonist - my heroines always have to suffer
much longer with more challenges to overcome
I was ready to face a lot of pain - just to find the
ride too short, too few obstacles, the bride-to-be
was a special witch great at dealing with ghosts;
all misunderstanding solved too easily - I prefer
complications and intrigues for a sweet heroine
but Terry Pratchett spun a beautiful tale - to be
embroidered - until it contains all the pain I can
imagine - he remains my favourite author - all
the emotion evoked will be used to experience
and recreate fairytales old and new in my head
I Shall Wear Midnight - Terry Pratchett -
What a Wonderful Book!

Sea Of Heartbreak (feat. George Strait)
Jimmy:
The lights in the harbor
don't shine for me.
I'm like a lost ship
lost on the sea.
The sea of heartbreak,
lost love and loneliness,
memories of your caress,
so devine, I wish you were mine
again my dear.
I'm on a sea of tears
a sea of heartbreak.
George Strait:
How did I lose you?
Where did I fail?
Why did you leave me?
Always to sail.
The sea of heartbreak,
lost love and loneliness,
memories of your caress,
so devine, I wish you were mine
again my dear.
I'm on a sea of tears
a sea of heartbreak.
Both:
Oh what I'd give
to sail back to shore.
Back to your arms once more.
Jimmy:
So come to my rescue,
come here to me.
Both:
Take me and keep me
Jimmy:
away from this sea.
Both:
This sea of heartbreak,
lost love and loneliness,
memories of your caress,
so devine, I wish you were mine
again my dear.
I'm on a sea of tears
a sea of heartbreak.
This sea of heartbreak.

My Special Someone
You are my special someone
All I will ever need
I know I'd be lost without you
I hope you'd be lost without me
I've searched alone
But your the only one
You're what I want
When things are said and done
I guess I only needed
Someone who was just like you
Someone who'd be
My special someone too
I stumbled down love's main highway
But not without takin' some falls
I've seen my illusions fly away
Until I had none left at all
And then you rescued
What was left of me
What maybe some would call a fantasy
But me, I'd have to say it only proves
How strange love moves
I need to be your special someone too
'Cause what I needed most
Is what she gave to me
And where she lays her head
Is where I want to be
There's something wrong with losing
What we finally found
Now when I've lost my way
I've got my special someone round
And when she needed love
She found it here with me
Now where I lay my head
Is where she wants to be
I've got a secret but it's one
That's hard to keep
I want to tell the world
That special someone is my girl
That special someone is my girl
She wants to be my special someone too
