A Warm Welcome to Incredible India
Waiting at the harbour with a paging board in my hand,
With names of guests from Australia, about to land.
It was my first assignment as a tourist guide,
And my heart was beating fast, filled with pride.
My Incredible India, dismissed as a land of contradictions
Snake charmers, beggars and full of superstitions.
As a good will ambassador, it’s my chance to bust the myth,
Feeling somewhat nervous and excited I could hardly breathe…
I saw a couple in their 40’s wave vigorously at me,
I could see they couldn’t wait to begin their journey…
After perfunctory formalities and introductions
I said one request, please suspend preconceived notions,
For sometime, and tell me what is on your itinerary.
We want a complete experience of your country.
Wonderful, I exclaimed, India is a complete destination.
You won’t be disappointed, I will like to mention.
Just tell me if you want adrenal high and adventure
Or some place calm and serene in the lap of nature
There are skiing, trekking and wild life sanctuaries,
And there are spas offering relaxation therapies.
But one thing you can’t give a miss is shopping trip
Oh there is a treasure trove, you wouldn’t like to skip.
My only humble plea is just have an open mind,
Soak the Sun, colours and flavours of myriad kind.
Walk, taste the local food and simply explore,
But refrain from making comparisons, I humbly implore.
Walk on the sandy beach, or take a leisurely shikara ride.
I won’t impose on you, so what if I am your tourist guide.
They were enchanted as well as perplexed,
Oh, yes I know, our country is a little complex.
Ten days are not enough for a country of so much diversity
To understand it I'm afraid, truly you need an eternity
We shall come again they said without hesitation
Atithi Devo Bhava, so you have an open invitation…
Atithi Devo Bhava—a Sanskrit phrase meaning guest is God

Walkin' The Country
Runnin' from the rate race
Just as fast as I can
Take off my tie so I can breathe
Me, I'm going where the fresh air's blowin'
Take a little walk in the country with me
(Chorus)
Walk in the country with me
Watch the sun sinkin' down on the trees
It's gonna do us some good
To get down in the woods
Take a little walk in the country with me
I'm so sick of all them TV shows
I need some dirt road under my feet
C'mon let's point our toes where the red fern grows
Take a little walk in the country with me
Come on now
(Repeat Chorus)
Walkin' the country
Oh bless my soul
Just gimme that country road
Come on now
(Repeat Chorus)
Take a little walk in the country with me
Come on now baby
Take a little walk in the country with me

Native Title
You are welcome to our country
When full respect is paid
To those who souls grew out from where
Their ancestors were laid
This land is our protector
This land our path in life
This land is our great comforter
This land is hurt by strife
Feel the heart that beats within it
As the seasons come and go
Feel the energy within it
From which everything does grow
This land will guide your footsteps
This land will feed you well
This land needs loving kindly
This land is not to sell
This land is just our country
This land is just our home
For its not just who owns this land
But whom this land does own.

Country Road
Take to the highway wont you lend me your name
Your way and my way seem to be one in the same
Momma dont understand it
She wants to know where I been
Id have to be some kind of natural born fool
To want to pass that way again
But you know I could feel it
On a country road
Sail on home to jesus wont you good girls and boys
Im all in pieces, you can have your own choice
I could seen a heavenly band full of angels
And theyre a comin to set me free
Dont know much about the wild wind
But I can tell that its bound to because I could feel it
On a country road
Guess my feet know where the want me to go
Walking on a country road
Walk on down, walk on down, walk on down
Walk on down, walk on down a country road yeah
La la la la la la la
Country road
Yeah walking on a country road
Country road
Yeah
Walking on a country road

Transformation
We were just married a while,
The world had yet not been invaded by mobile.
So there was lot of laughter and smiles
Early morning we would walk for miles.
Chinaar trees, Tulips, Daffodils, cherry blossoms-
The beauty of it was truly awesome.
On an indolent noon, a shikara ride
With the boatman working as a tourist guide.
How effortlessly the hours passed,
As we slowly waded through the calm waters and went past,
Dal and Nishaat Lake, in utter awe.
Pristine beauty of the hills for the first time I saw.
Young girls in boats selling local ware,
So calm, serene, gentle and fair.
In just ten years all hell broke loose,
Blood all around in place of soft hues.
All was desecrated with irreverence.
The valley was shorn of its very essence.
Those who forever had lived in harmony,
Overnight became sworn enemies.
What not are we driven to for self preservation.
People were fleeing not knowing their destination.
Countless became paupers and homeless
And fled to the safety of refugee camps.
How many lives lost over a piece of land?
Politics of war made me sad.
Terror affected psyche of one and all.
On reading the news, i felt appalled.
I still dream of those days gone by,
When the valley was alive, i thought with a sigh.
Why can’t we live in harmony and peace?
And bring back those days when every one was at ease.

Rabbit Proof Fence
There are two Australian fences I'd like to talk about
One runs from the north down to the south to keep the rabbits out
The other is invisible - it's in Australian's minds
It’s a blinkered view of what it is to be part of humankind.
When Australia was first was colonised some two hundred years ago
The colonists they formed a view so that they could go
And claim each piece of land they found and make it for their own
Paying no respect or honour to those who had in this country grown
They stole this land directly from the Aborigines
Regarding them as savages without any dignity
Their currency was alcohol, diseased blankets and the gun
And they cleared this whole damn country fast once this clearing had begun.
They called it Terra Nullis to justify their gains
And they then gave Aborigines European sounding names
They would take all of their children and put them into homes
Of good god fearing people who would take them as their own
The aim of this was clearly born of a harsh philosophy
You cannot steal from people who have no identity
This form of cultural cleansing was fundamental to this land
And these stolen generations are now trying to understand
What it was was taken from their culture in the past
And what can now be full regained in a way that will long last.
Hundreds of their languages are now only spoken by a few
Traditions and communities need to begin anew
If the lie of Terra Nullis is to be rightfully exposed
And Australia's real history is to be more fully clothed
It's time to say we're sorry not just to say it's not our fault
If we don't understand this history then we're selling ourselves short
Of a magic in this country that sets it full apart
Of a land that has all peoples beating strongly in its heart.
The rabbits they were introduced to make Australia seem
More like the England left behind and part of that vain dream
Was to make this sunburnt country something that it never could
Be or even slow become and it's now clear that no good
Will ever come if fences stay - for Australia shall find
That as a fence cannot be rabbit proof nor can a state of mind.

A Day For Thanksgiving
Today we celebrate a proclamation, to thank our Gracious Lord and God.
To thank Him all across this nation, throughout this blessed land we trod.
And we thank Him for our Salvation, while with humbled hearts we nod.
We’re set apart through Sanctification, and led by Christ’s staff and rod.
Our country’s blessed in many ways, through The Lord’s Amazing Grace.
A Grace that sustains all our days, and across all this land in every place.
It is to The Lord we give our praise, while we also humbly seek His face.
For to that land that humbly prays, God shall continue His Loving Grace.
For us this country is a land of plenty, supplied by The Loving Lord above.
He reaches down while guiding many, with His awesome Grace and Love.
And God can meet the needs of any, fitting them just like a hand in glove.
So when blessed in a land of plenty, it should be God you’re thinking of.
Our Thanksgiving Day had its start, through the decision of just one man.
It is just one day that is set apart, to express thanks throughout our land.
And thankfulness is at the heart, as we acknowledge God’s Loving Hand.
Thanks each day we should impart, until all men truly come to understand.
Our country’s birth and every nation, is conceived by our Sovereign God,
Who alone deserves all men’s praise, for His sustaining and loving Grace.
A Grace that reaches down to many, drawing them to Christ and His Love,
Until He touches every single heart, of every single man upon every land.

Sonnet-To My Beloved Motherland, India
My India, I’m proud to be thy son;
My heart with joy leaps for being here born;
My soul with anguish fills for havoc done;
If country needs my life, let me adorn.
This is my land beloved, my Motherland;
This is my home, my ancestors came from;
Even an inch of it, I cannot hand,
Nor spare it to an alien for a sum.
This is the air which I had breathed at first;
This is the soil that gave me food to eat;
This is the water which appeased my thirst;
This is the place that gave me my heart-beat.
My India, who canst challenge thy state?
My blood is thine for any future date.

Rainbow Country "A Place of Love"
I'm riding the range in the rainbow country.
Where the skies are always filled with glistening stars.
Where the air is always pure and comforting to the heart.
Where my mind can ride the range in search of eternal peace.
Where dreams turn out so wonderful and freely.
I'm riding the range in the rainbow country.
Where love is fair and free.
Where love never dies.
Were love can be nurtured and always stay high.
Where the heart always remains serene and peaceful.
In the rainbow country:
A place fo love.
A place of peace.
Hence, I'll continue to ride the range in the rainbow country.
So my soul can remain free.

If It Opens
I owe the wonderful memories I keep,
To those who were unafraid to adventure.
The people who kept the reaching of destinies,
On their minds.
And finding the saying of 'why Not? ' unconfining.
So grateful I am to have dismissed limits,
To explore the value of a life given to me to live.
With a willingness to comprehend,
My commitment to the mix and my involvement.
Although I've grown to admit of having little patience,
When listening to those describing their fears.
With excuses to make to have them validated.
I owe the wonderful memories I keep,
To those who were unafraid to adventure.
And as I age to recognize doubters who profess faith...
I am happy not to be that one,
Procrastinating with a hesitation done.
I know what it is to pursue dreams that come true.
I also know what it's like,
To have more of them too!
And I also know too well,
Not to wait for someone else to open a door.
If it opens,
I will not be asked to walk through.
If a door can be opened,
Walking through it is what I will do.
I am a like like time!
With nothing on my mind but moving forward.

Country Alone
There is dreaming land and happy country
Cursed and blessed by her beauty alone
The lost children of the country
Foreign in sweet home alone
Do not understand country
Hardly meaning own name alone
Some praise the country
Some leave and laugh alone
Emptying nectar of country
Satisfying their belly alone
Forget about future seed country
Fight living and growing alone
So tragic for the country
Eaten by her child alone

Kashmir, who fools who?
No third country’s intervention;
No third country’s mediation;

India brings in America’s attention.

For My Son
The realms of love are infinite
Just like the paths of life.
And I will do my best to guide you,
Through the toil and strife.
We'll walk the fields of happiness.
Traverse the lanes of peace.
And I will help you through your journey,
Guide your straying feet.
For though you walk alone my child,
I'm always by your side.
I was privileged to give you life.
Together we'll abide.
I'll teach you all my wisdom.
I'll show you all the joy,
That's waiting for you in your life.
Yes ‘tis true my boy.
For you will walk in tenderness,
With loving hand unfurled.
To help and give a guiding hand
To other boys and girls.
To walk in love and peace and joy,
Is everybody's right.
This precious gift I ask for you,
To guide you day and night.

Two Views Of the Same Country (Polar Opposites)
The land of plenty
The harmless country
The friendly land
That can only breed opportunity
Of 'righteous' people
Of 'open-minded' folk
The kind you talk to
While you have a smoke......
The land of sickly
The bully country
The greedy country
That can only survive on consumers
Of prejudice animals
Of close-minded folk
The kind that you poke fun at, just
For jokes..............

Dissed
I am quiet
The clock is slow
The teacher talks fast
I inhale then exhale
I am anxious
The clock moves faster
The teacher is writing on the board
I inhale then exhale
I am excited
The bell is about to ring
The teacher gives the homework assignment
I inhale then exhale slowly
I am nervous
The bell has finally rung
I walk out of class heading in his direction
I can barely breathe now
I am brave
I wait for him to walk my way
He sees me, I open my mouth, but he walks in the opposite direction
I am left motionless

Kerry, in memoriam
`
take him home to Ellerston
there to rest, proud heart and soul
sultry rhythm, bushland hearth
beloved sunburnt country
just another day in the bush
life rolls on like a country song
paean to the homeland south
rays bounce off yon coffin sheen
life does go on without you
your neighbor's cattle wander
stray across funeral march
Mackellar's words guide our steps:
'Though earth holds many splendours,
wherever I may die,
I know to what brown country
My homing thoughts will fly....'
out in blistering open land
rest at last o learned hand
so ends one life's longest day
mem'ries now forever stay

No agèd tourist you
Explorer guide and ever young
Who in a magic land
Where trembling minds step warily
Can see horizons out of sight
Of ordinary men
But are you not like us
Do we not follow where you lead
And are we really strangers in this realm
That seems so surely ours
You take our souls
And show them glimpses of themselves
Yet as a tourist guide
You hardly fill the role
You seek no token of our thanks
But what a gratitude there is
And envy too
For one whose youth cannot grow old
For one whose spirit never dies

Put Some Drive In Your Country
Well I was raised on country classics
Like Roy Acuff and George Jones
Lord I loved to hear 'em
Sing all them old time country songs
But I really got excited 'bout the time I turned 15
That's the first time I heard Waylon and old Bocephus sing
They put some drive in their country that really turned me on
Yeah, put some drive in your country
Keep country drivin' on
When the music gets you movin'
You know that can't be wrong
Every time I hear that outlaw stuff on my car radio
It makes me wanna drive it just as fast as it will go
Put some drive in your country
Let's keep country drivin' on
We played some shows in Atlanta on Sunday afternoons
The gigs were packed and I was nervous
Cause I wanted folks to like my tunes
The crowds were full of younger people
They were all about my age
So I turned and told the band just before we walked on stage
Put some drive in your country fellas
We turned those people on
Yeah, put some drive in your country
Keep country drivin' on
When the music gets you dancin'
You know that can't be wrong
See I made myself a promise when I was just a kid
I'd mix southern rock and country and that's just what I did
Put some drive in your country
Keep country drivin' on
Put some drive in your country
Hey, let's keep country drivin' on
When the music gets you movin'
You know that can't be wrong
I still love old country
I ain't tryin' to put it down
Damn I miss Duanne Allman
I wish he was still around
Put some drive in the country
Keep country drivin' on
Put some drive in the country
Let's keep country drivin' on
