She Loved Me; I Loved Her Not-Chapter Two
Audrey stood in front of the mirror that night
with the radio on staring at her body
in just in her bra and panties
evaluating her body, comparing her body,
her hair, her mouth, her behind
to Carly's
putting tissue paper in her bra cups
trying to get them look like Carly's breasts
puffing out her behind
pouting her lips
trying on a shade of lipstick
of lip gloss
that matched the kinds Carly wore.
She put her shortest shirt
thinking to hem to make it shorter
but not too short;
She didn't want to look cheap;
she would have to hide it in her backpack to get it out of the house.
She would have to change in the girl's bathroom at school
hoping no one would notice how her clothing had changed
that no one would notice and tell her parents,
or worse report her to the principal.
She didn't want people to start to talking about her
that would be mortifying
rumors would start
boys would start to think she was easy
and some of the girls would say she was a tramp or "fast."
Lots of girls at school wore short skirts but if she Audrey
wore one
people would notice,
her reputation would get ruined.
She looked at the skirt in the mirror
to see if her thighs,
now exposed,
looked fat or were too thick.
She stared at them not being able to tell
after all
she was not used to seeing her thighs in a short skirt.
She went to her closet to retrieve a top,
a white top,
because she felt that would not draw as much attention
buttoning up the front, with tiny pearl buttons.
staring at herself in the mirror;
examining her tissue-paper breasts
inside the top,
noting to her embarrassment
that her breasts looked lumpy.
Lumpy breasts would be a problem.
She pulled out a pair of socks from her closet
placing them carefully inside her bra.
They looked ok
but she would have to sew them in|
to be sure they didn't fall out
She dropped the socks on the dark carpet
and went to the closet to look again for something else.
She decided on cotton,
cotton
which she tore from the shoulder pads of the suit her aunt had given her
for her visit to New York
her junior year.
She took the shoulder pads out and tired them on,
turning slowing in front of the mirror to see how they looked.
They were perfect
and she breathed a gentle sigh of relief.
Now the eyes and the makeup;
She had some
and some she had borrowed
from her mother's makeup kit
and some she had gotten from her girlfriend, Mary
offering the excuse she had seen in a magazine some new things which could be done
with makeup.
Mary didn't ask any questions.
Arrayed before her was eyeliner, blush, powder,
and tweezers for eyebrow plucking,
gloss, foundation, false eyebrows, eyelash thickener, sparkles,
and something Mary had given her which she had no clue as to what it could be used for
(It turned out something which could thicken your newly plucked eyebrows.)
She never wore makeup before, at least to school
and it was suddenly dawning on her
that showing up with all this makeup was bound to be noticed.
She turned from the mirror, feeling dazed
going to sit on the side of her bed
realizing
that all this,
her plan
was dishonest
and not her.
It was too phony and people would see through it.
If her love was steady and strong
she thought
I would see that in time
eventually
or not.
But she would not pretend to be a person different than she was
because that would be obvious to everyone,
me and to herself.
If love was to triumph here Audrey concluded
it could not be based upon makeup and tight clothes.
She then decided what she would do, closing the make-up cases intinctively understanding it was an important decision in her young life.
The next day she told me what she had decided to do and I listened
not reacting
surprised
just looking at her for a moment
stunned
as she told me the details
of the night before,
The makeup, the short skirt
the tight blouse,
all of it.

She Loved Me; I Loved Her Not
She was not the prettiest flower in the bouquet
but she had a perfumed heart
which shone through in a radiant smile and gentle nature;
she loved me dearly.
I, I awakened to puberty blinded by blond curls
and cheerleader bodies
and to those nasty girls
who flirted with my hormones
shaking me into the boy-way and impure thoughts;
sometimes at the wrong time
as the girls filed by us boys
we both on our
way to the gym and my embarrassment.
Where sometimes I had to skip gym and make excuses.
Audrey watched from afar;
I was not so much oblivious of how she felt
and I felt she was nice but, too nice
to be despoiled by what I wanted from girls
I wanted the fast girls because fast knows fast
and I was definitely fast in my sloppy jeans.
So like attracted like.
Like bears and honey
And like bears and honey
I didn't care if I got stung
I wanted honey.
Every boy in my school wanted the same three girls;
every girl in my school wanted the same three boys
the rest of us were bystanders, spectators and critics
to scenes we were not part of
not even able to offer solace to others like ourselves because
to be in the not-popular group was to be a social failure;
and who wants to associate with social failures-
no one that's who.
Being seen together
only drew attention to your failed status in life.
No one wants that right?
Audrey stood by watching me hunger for the popular girls
particularly Carly
who was my female succubus,
who could arouse in me
such that at times I dared not stand up.
Carly was the one who knew how to flirt
how to move my hormones with just a glance;
how to flip her hair
how to bend over to pick up that mythical pencil
how to always look available
whether she had a boyfriend or not
how to perform in lunch-room theater
scenes of a princess eating
several kinds of food stuffs from soup to hotdogs,
to ice cream cones
which drove the boys crazy
where Life would stand still for the boys and the girls
and also for some male faculty members
who too would
become frozen in time
whenever Carly, took up her comestibles.
The girls watched too angry-eager to learn how to imitate
-envious critical condemning, castigating
totally in awe of what Carly could do to boys.
She had the gift of innocent sexuality,
no better, the gift of a innocent playful sexuality
naughty but not seedy,
a young girl in a woman's body,
natural senuous movements which gave promise
of her inner woman to be.
She was of course learning of her ability
to attract boys and men
but her learning was so public
and she learned to accommodate the stares and
mini-hatreds and lusts of others
on the stage she had placed upon
which made her internal development public out of necessity.
She was used to all eyes upon her.
And even then I realized that Carly was also a symbol of how everything and anything could be given a sexual interpretation
not only by us boys, but the girls as well
and as well by the adults,
some of whom hated Carly's natural sexuality
and other adults there
who hated her
and that very same sexuality
as a sign of the devils work
or worse,
made them feel that sexuality
against their will-same as the young boys.
No one it seemed was immune
from the powerful pull of Carly's natural sexuality.
Carly lived in the middle of this maelstrom.
I found Audrey one Friday
(Carly and her popular group came to the cafeteria
only on Fridays,
hence her appearances were extra special
to all concerned
since they were not frequent.)
One day, as I was saying,
I saw Audrey outside the cafeteria
and the moment her eyes met mine
she started to cry.
Not understanding
I asked her what was the matter.
'Nothing.' she said turning away
but that was the first day I started to see her
as a real person,
not a girlfriend mind you
rather I started to see her as a comrade in suffering.
I vowed to ask her who she was in love with
assuming she shared my predicament.
And I thought we could help each other.
I thought I would call her.
Without further words Audrey walked away
humiliated but happy so happy that I had noticed her.
She vowed that she would fight for me
she would walk up to me in the school corridor
and kiss me on the cheek;
that is what she would do
to make me understand how she felt about me.
To make me see that she was the one
who loved me
that really understood me.
That is what she decided to do
That night she planned it out:
Lip gloss, short skirt, tight top,
she would be a new Audrey and get my attention
and make me forget the nasty girls.

Makeup
When you wake up in the morning
And you put the makeup upon your face
Do you try to cover up the age and lines
Or only the sins and deceptions and the disgrace.
Do you try to place on a happy smile
By putting bright lipstick upon your lips
Or do you try to cover up your own hard life
Something that someone like you never forgets.
And as you look into your mirror
Do you powder the many lines upon your face
The lines that has stretched from years ago
Unto the present days of your life and waste.
Do you try to cover up the bags under your eyes
From all the many restless and sleepless nights
The nights when you cared not where you went
As long as you went and held on to someone tight.
Do you place the powder upon your cheeks
To make you look so cheerful and so very nice
But as they say you cant judge a book by its cover
And if they knew you, they need only to think twice.
And as you are preparing yourself for the day
With your makeup in front of you and on the shelf
Does it take you a little longer to put it on each day
As you try to cover yourself up and become someone else.
The makeup you have will you pass it along one day
And then show someone else how to cover up their lines
Maybe your sisters or even maybe your daughters
That is though if they need to cover up their lying.
And do you ever step back away from your mirror
Do you ever try to look at yourself as a whole
Does it ever bring tears into your heart and eyes
Do you ever wish that you still had a soul.
So as your prepare to start your brand new morning
With your lipstick and powders and so much more
Do you ever wish that you could just wash your face clean
And never have to cover up your ways and lies from the nights before.

Who Is She?
She put on her makeup,
lipstick and blush.
She did up her hair
with comb and brush.
She looked in the mirror
and what did she see?
Someone all made up,
not someone who was she.
For she was a plain gal,
always had been.
She was covering up freckles
and a scar on her chin.
She made up her mind
to become who she was.
Threw away the cosmetics
like a plain gal does.
She undid her hair
and let it flow free.
Looked in the mirror.
What did she see?
Someone who definitely
couldn't be she.

Eating Noddemix
Staring at the mirror on
The steamy bathroom wall
Eating a noddemix
As the people are running
The highrise starts to fall
While she neatly wipes her lips
The reporters pick up
Their pads and pens
As they rush to the scene
And the cameras wink on the gory views
How the editors agree
Putting on her makeup
She glances at the clock
Next shell paint her nails
The train has collided
The driver didnt stop
As she slips onto the scales
Looking for her car keys
She finds them in her shoe
Lift the magazine from the floor
That long-ago mystery
Has revealed another clue
As she quickly shuts the door
Yeah, man, they just pulled over now,
And it looks like its gonna be an all-night job tonight, you know.
If you could send a few cars, it would sure help a lot.
And I should sip wine in front of the tv tonight
Because theres a program I wish you to see.
Ill start making a few inquiries already.
Ok, thats all for now.

Someone Inside Me
I looked to the mirror,
It still me, only me,
Not young, not old,
Just always be me..
I touch that scar,
Look worse than before,
Make me shame,
Want to die,
I can make it hide,
But it out when the memories come,
That misery, that cried,
Out of my eyes, come to tears,
But it come,
'She' who make me strong,
Make my step go on,
Not to hide again that wound,
But erase it from my soul,
I looked at the mirror,
But still me, look so tired,
Full sadness, no smile,
Nothing but hate,
But deep inside,
Someone scream,
It tell me that 'she' is the truly me,
Told me 'bout the truth and beauty,
I try to get out,
thinking it's just a dream,
Finished in just one night,
So I crush that mirror,
Hit it until bleed,
I realize, I won't live in that way,
I'm a beautiful woman,
Not just staring at the mirror,
But also someone who loved myself...

Fantasies Of A Mirror Part-1
The mirror gasped as she stood in front of it with her tresses flowing longingly
The mirror looked in her dark brown eyes
The mirror admired her almost perfect lips
The mirror gazed longingly at her perfect hips
The mirror took her in its arms
The mirror embraced her reflection in itself
The mirror ran its fingers through her soft hair
The mirror kissed her lips a thousand times
The mirror bit her slender neck
The mirror whispered a thousand nothings in her ears
The mirror …..The mirror ……The mirror
The mirror left its love bites all over her soft warm body

Magic's In The Makeup
Can you tell I'm faking it? But I want to be myself
A counterfeit disposition
Can't be good for my health
So many different faces
Depending on the different phases
My personality changes
I'm a chameleon
There's more than one dimension
I can fool you and attract attention
Camouflage my nature
Let me demonstrate...
Makeup's all off
Who am I?
Magic's in the make up
Who am I?
If you bore me then I'm comfortable
If you interest me I'm scared
My attraction paralyzes me
No courage to show my true colors that exist
But I want to be the real thing
But if you catch my eye can't be authentic
The one's I loath are the one's that know me the best
My makeup's all off
Who am I?
The magic's in the make up
Who am I?
The makeup's all off
Who am I?
If the magic's in the make up
Then who am I?
Magic's in the makeup
But I want to be real the thing
But the magic's in the makeup
And I want to be the real thing
My makeup's all off
Who am I?

Poor old Harry!
Harry looked in his mirror
and he didn't like what he saw
his hair was thin and Grey
in fact he didn't have a lot anymore.
Although he was now in his fifties
he wanted to appear trendy and young
so when he noticed his thinning locks
it upset him because he was highly strung.
So he decided to change his look
and he went and bought himself a wig
Harry began to dress like a teenager
and pumped Iron to build muscle real big.
His wife thought that he'd gone mad
or he was having a secret affair
but Harry thought he looked great
especially with his new dark hair.
He felt like a young man again
as he danced at the disco every Saturday
but one night he slipped a disc in his back
and a strong wind blew his toupee away.
So no longer could he lift any heavy weights
and he couldn't afford another costly wig
then all that muscle turned to fat
and he grew large and very big.
So Harry decided to just age naturally
but alas things didn't go according to plan
sadly his wife had her own mid-life crisis
and she ran off with a much younger man!

Twenty Years And Two Husbands Ago
Lookin' in the bathroom mirror puttin' my makeup on
Maybelline can't hide the lines of time that's gone
I weighed 105 soakin' wet, I'd knock 'em dead in that sun dress
Had it all just too young to know,
That was twenty years and, two husbands ago
I remember when he took my hand and said "I do"
And the kitchen I was standing in, when he said "I'm through"
And I swore I'd never fall back in, put my heart through that again
Never let somebody get that close
But that was twenty years and, two husbands ago
Water under the bridge
I guess that's all life really is, that's just the way it is
Driving the kids to school today, it occurred to me
With all the wrong turns I've made,
I'm where I should be
But I go back there from time to time
Lookin' for that peace of mind,
And find it's always just a dead-end road
Yeah that was twenty years and, two husbands ago
Water under the bridge
I guess that's all life really is, that's just the way it is
Lookin' in the bathroom mirror puttin' my makeup on

Mirror, Mirror

Mirror, mirror
On the wall
You said you had the answers to it all
You never told me Id take a fall
Mirror, mirror
On the wall
You, you turned my life
Into a paperback novel
Words that come to life
Inside your little melodrama
Chapter one
When I was young
I came to you with my problems
Chapter two
You promised me love
And anything that I desired
Tell me mirror, mirror on the wall
thought you said you had the answers to it all
Never told me I was gonna take a fall
Tell me mirror, mirror on the wall
You have nailed my heart
Upon the wall for your pleasures
You have cast a spell
That cannot ever be broken
And now
My eyes grow tired
I watch my picture getting older
But i
Remain the same
Trapped in this mirror forever
Tell me mirror, mirror on the wall
thought you said you had the answers to it all
You never told me I was gonna take a fall
Tell me mirror, mirror on the wall
I talk to you each night
And I follow your advise
Youve been wrong
Whats the price I have to pay
For this fairy tale thing called love?
Let me go!
Tell me mirror, mirror on the wall
thought you said you had the answers to it all
Never told me I was gonna take a fall
Tell me mirror, mirror on the wall
Tell me mirror, mirror on the wall
thought you said you had the answers to it all
Never told me I was gonna take a fall
Tell me mirror, mirror on the wall
Let me go
Mirror, mirror
Mirror, mirror
Mirror, mirror
Mirror, mirror
Tell me mirror, mirror on the wall
thought you said you had the answers to it all
Never told me I was gonna take a fall
Tell me mirror, mirror on the wall
Tell me mirror
Tell me mirror
Tell me mirror

The Mirror...
I Looked At The Mirror
Mirror, Looked Back At Me
I Asked The Mirror
What Do You See?
The Mirror Smiled
“Same As You See”
I Touched The Mirror
The Mirror, Touched Me
Pressing To Break Thru
Glass Vanity
For Tho’ Eye To Eye
Sometimes I See
Mirror’s Right
Is Left To Me
And My Right Side … Made Mirror Left
I Got Perplexed At Imagery
And I Turned Away From Mirror
And Mirror Turned From Me
Our Backs To Each Other
Exposed Rigidly
But, Both Turned Back To Face
And Touch Same Place, And Be
Contained and Content
In Each Other’s Space Respectfully
We Shattered The Barrier
Between Mirror and Me
Back To Reflecting Our World
And The Same Things, We See …
Oh … Mirror, Mirror …
Reflecting You … Seeing Me …

Early on in my career, I'd go into the makeup trailer, and they'd spend an hour doing my makeup, and I would hate it. I'd go into the bathroom, wash it off and start over again, which took an enormous amount of time. So I just started doing it myself.

Liz Phair and Three Beautiful Ladies
On a warm sultry night last August,
I went to a rock concert featuring Liz Phair
And several other female artists.
A male friend of mine couldn’t go with me,
But I didn’t really mind, I love music so much
That I never want to talk or think about anything but the show.
Once I was there, though, I ran into three female friends:
Erica, Diana, and Soha!
I was as nearly as exited to see them as Liz;
If I had been a puppy,
My little tail would have been
Ecstatically wagging!
I was in the front row and toward the end of the show,
I reached my hand toward Liz Phair wanting
To slightly touch her, but she placed a guitar pick
Into my outstretched hand, I thought I might have a heart attack!
My three friends were cheering me on like perfect angels!
When the show was over, I walked out with my three friends.
The concert was promoted by a makeup company,
And they were giving out free packets of makeup.
My three friends, all beautiful ladies, took one;
Being right on their heels, I also took one.
The woman handing out the makeup gave me a peculiar look,
But I never thought about it, but Erica, being the most wonderfully
Outspoken and lovely woman, asked me almost accusingly,
“Are you going to use that, Uriah? ” Innocently I replied,
“What is it? ” Soha joined in, “Eyeliner. Can I have it? ”
I had never used eyeliner before and had no real intentions to start,
So I was quite happy to give it to Soha!
But on the way home from the show I thought,
I’m glad they weren’t giving out tampons,
I probably would have taken a handful of those, too!

Mirror
A thin flat pane
Of unblemished glass
And a reflecting plane
Of sputtered aluminum…
Mirror …amazing mirror
A symbol of fashion
Image of civilization
Right turned left
Again reflect
A self-portrait.
Mirror on the Hubble
It's Newton's kind
Exploring the universe
For all mankind.
Laser and mirror
Worked together
And gave this generation
An all new communication.
Mirror for makeup
The fair one behold,
Man's close shave
Handsome and bold.
Eye of the immersed
The sub's periscope
Eye pleasing patterns
Of the kaleidoscope.
Side view mirror
Rear view mirror
Drive without either
Sure a disaster.
Mirror to life's
Reflected shine
Life without mirror
It's hard to imagine.

Sports Day 1962
It was sports day
at high school
and the field and tracks
were crowded with
teachers and kids
and the sun was out
causing sweat
and heat rash
and Reynard said to you
that girl who fancies your ass
is waving to you
over by the small wood
of trees and bushes
so you looked over
and saw Christina
waving a hand at you
leaping up and down
her short gym skirt
rising and falling
as she leaped
showing off
now and then
her dark green panties
mind she don't eat you
Reynard said
and walked off
to watch the races
as you wandered over
to where she stood
at the edge
of the small wood
don't you look
the sexy beast
in your black shorts
she said
eyeing you over
her right hand smoothing
down your white tee shirt
are you running?
she asked
yes a short sprint
you replied
anything more than that
and I'm buggered
she looked at the field
holding her hands
in front of her
and you gazed
at her white legs
and white ankle socks
and black plimsolls
I'm in the relay race
she said
I‘ll have to watch
to see when my turn comes
then she turned to you
and said
have you been inside the wood?
you looked behind you
no not so far have you?
yes we went there
in science looking for bugs
and such
she said
maybe you could show me
you said
what?
bugs and flowers
and butterflies
you replied
she smiled at you
maybe but teachers might be watching
or other kids or prefects
and what if my brother Cedric
sees us enter
and tells my parents?
just a science tour
to see all nature's gifts
you said
tell them that
if any see us go
and you watched her
fumble with her fingers
looking around the field
and whispered softly
no.

Another Side of Myself
I hate the girl in the mirror,
she wont ever be good enough,
Shes been crying, her makeup is in smears.
Her cry can be herd from so far away,
But nobody can come if they are frozen,
Or thats what they say.
I hate the girl in the mirror,
Her eyes show too much regret.
Her lifes been too hard to forget.
I hate the girl in the mirror,
as funny as it seems
she moves at the same time i do.
I hate the girl in the mirror
i cant explain how, i cant explain why.
Even if i could i dont know if id try.
I hate the girl in the mirror
Shes too fat,
Her boobs they are too flat.
I hate the girl in the mirror
She waits for me
I wish you could see.
The girl in the mirror,
Looks so real, when i touch her hand
I realized i just touched mine.
