Cello

There was music
around her;
notes playing
in the silver air;
she exhales
close to my
upturned face.

Her shape,
a fine
brown cello,
her low voice
singing
each word-note
coming
in a whispering moan.

My bow string
draws out her chords
harmonizing,
flowing into to me.
siren-like.

Arpeggio
hair braids
trail away;
clef note eyes
glow
with the white heat
which rises
in the sparkle dust
of her melodies singing.

She bends toward me
cascading,
double breasted
notes;
her arms
flower petals
unfolding from side to side;
mouth parting slightly
breathing warm air.

She sang
to my soul,

cello style.

This is music for painful eyes And numb arms Trickles of
Electric guitar Flowing Cascading And then Caught By a flute
At the bottom A basin And both Join together In unexpected Harmony
The voice Of a beautiful Girl singing In between Mixing
intertwiningAs I take all the notes In my hands And wash All the music
In my face Like a Face towel

i am refreshed, Holy God, i am refreshed, i am feeling that
The pain Is gone.

Music Notes

Music
The most beautiful thing I'll ever know
A music note
A note after another note
Composed to create sound
To create feelings
Thoughts
And emotion
Music notes are the most beautiful things I've ever seen
A note
Just a glance and u know
Knowing music is being created
Just the beauty of a music note
And the thing is
I can't read music notes
Just the sound the music notes make

Interlude narrative verse for M lady Ernestine

The silent cello waits in vain.
Her owner can no longer play,
her twisted joints in so much pain
Arthritis has now won the day.

Those hands which once caressed the strings
are gnarled and twisted dreadfully
Though in her mind the cello sings,
its silent in reality.

The music stored within its soul
longs for release impatiently.
Its destiny to play a role
assisting some child prodigy.

The owner cannot bear to part
with her treasured instrument.
She holds a dream deep in her heart.
Some one will come who’s one intent

to learn to play the cello well.
Prepared to suffer for their art,
beglamoured by the subtle spell
this cherished cello can impart.

Her children show no interest,
no musical ability.
Perhaps, she thinks it’s for the best
The cello waits impatiently.

One day her grandchild comes to call
A pretty child who’s not yet five.
She exhibits no fear at all
her fingers bring the strings alive.

The cello knows this is the one.
The child it has been waiting for.
and grandma knows she has passed on.
The love she felt so long before.

Before she learnt to play a note.
She knew it was her destiny
that music was the antidote
to soothe her sensitivity..

The chills is lost in wonderment
and strokes the cello lovingly.
This could not be an accident.
It was her grandma’s legacy.

She seemed to know instinctively
Just as her grandmother had done
That music was her destiny.
The cello knew that it had won

In course of time the girl surpassed
The skill her grandma had possessed.
It was the spell the cello cast
She always said that made her best.

When grandma died she died content
Her well loved cello sang again.
Now her grand daughter’s instrument
Their patient wait was not in vain..

The Piano Tuner’s Wife

That note comes clear, like water running clear,
Then the next higher note, and up and up
And more and more, with now and then a chord,
The highest notes like tapping a tile with a hammer,
Now and again an arpeggio, a theme
As if the keyboard spoke to the one key,
Saying, No interval is exactly true,
And the note whines slightly and then truly sings.

She sits on the sofa reading a book she has brought,
A ray of sunlight on her white hair.
She is here because he is blind. She drives.
It is almost a platitude to say
That she leads him from piano to piano.
And this continues for about an hour,
Building bridges from both sides of the void,
Coasting the chasms of the harmonies.

And in conclusion,
When there is no more audible dissent,
He plays his comprehensive keyboard song,
The loud proud paradigm,
The one work of art without content.

Music My Love

'Music my love, singing in heart repletes
I swear on my singing you too love it
My notes, my scales, singing my choice, my taste
When I go on singing sure for repeats
Listen to my singing closing your eyes
Honour you my singing with mind open
And you to my singing you ears sharpen
Never to my singing should you despise'

'Oh me to your singing I close my eyes
And me to your singing with mind open
I pray as your singing in heart repletes
And mine to your singing ears do depise
Not mine but yours, singing not to happen
Music your love, singing yours no repeats'

As They Dance

The heat rushed through her body
as she moved her body along side his

The movements were fast and breath taking
as they moved with the tempo of the music

His body bends back
as hers bends forward

His body bends forward
as hers bends back

Their bodies intertwined
as a vine on a wall

Their bodies move side to side
up and down

The music keeping the beat
as the danced

The stage lights dimmed to green
as they moved together

His hands run down her body
as she sways side to side

Her mouth open her eyes closed
his eyes on her body

He keeps his hands on her hips
as she ran her hands up his body to his face

Their lips met and their hearts raced
as the music stopped

Music of the porcupine musician

I wanted so much
to stroke his face
that he can see
how the music of the day
sparkle in freshwater
and as the notes
splash and plop
it would contain
the best melodies

but would I
be able to
do that now
that his words
are godless here
scorning lemonade
on trays
organ and accordion
he rattles
and rises
threatening
I know music

it's white and black
ringed pins it is
aardvark holes and tunnels
bark and bulbs
fruits and tubers it is
the flute's breath run out
the guitar's day tunes weary
the violin ceased to play

long before the day
could argue with the night
he started rattling his quills
rising heavy metal without guitar
will he ever know how notes
sparkle in soft water
once the loose long pins
of his comrades start
shooting randomly?

One Voice

Words and Music by
Barry Manilow
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just One Voice,
Singing in the darkness,
All it takes is One Voice,
Singing so they hear what's on your mind,
And when you look aound you'll find
There's more than One Voice,
Singing in the darkness,
Joining with your One Voice,
Ea ch and every note another octave,
Hands are joined and fears unlocked,
If only One Voice would start it on its own,
We need just One Voice facing the unknown,
And that One Voice would never be alone

04 Have Scented Kiss

sharp wall’s corner
pasting half your beauty
thin contour of you lips
barely showing behind
your cascading wavy hair
shadow of your eyelashes
attenuating your eyes’ sparkle
to a soft, romantic glow

your thin shirt capturing
a full cap, descending
to a white shorts
riding beautiful flowing
leg to silver anklets
topping red stiletto heels
adoring smooth foot
and ivory nails

my love come, come
i want to see everything
as if, you’re walking on runway
you’re swaying to melody
i took your hand
i turn you around
oh! my, your hair floated
like flower bloom
you end up on my arms
as i dip you for a kiss

A Bird and flower upon the tree

A bird and flower upon the tree,
Sweet peony and oriole,
Each of them a perfect soul,
Song and sweetness manifest
The bird and flower we love the best
Side by side on the tall tree.

'Flower who art sunlight and fire, flower who art perfume and joy,
Sweetest of sweet,
Ah for the gift withheld!
Ah for the given gift's alloy!
Why must thy spirit exhale only in beauty and breath?
Ah for the voice thou hast not! I by thy side on the tree,
Telling the world of love, pain, and all raptures that be,
Raptures of laughter and life, raptures of tears and death,
Singing my heart to heaven, singing to earth at my feet;
Silence in thee.'

'Bird who art dew-drops and flame, bird who art rapture and song,
Sweetest of sweet,
Lo there's a voice part mine, songs that to me too belong,
Songs that grew of my growth, voice that has breathed my breath.
Bird that while I sit mute singest beside on the tree,
Hast thou ever a song taking no perfume of me?
Give forth my sweetness in song; bird, thou art singing for both,
Singing our hearts to heaven, singing to earth at our feet;
My voice in thee.'

On the tree-top side by side,
Sweet oriole and peony;
Music rings through earth and sky,
Sweet and sweet in sweetness lost
The flower and bird we love the most,
On the tree-top side by side.

April Again

April again! the willow wands are yellow
Rose-red the brambles that the passing wind knows,
Comes a robin's note like the note of a 'cello,
And across the valley, the calling of the crows,-
'April again!'

April again! and the marsh birds swinging
Over the rushes that belong to yester-year;
Silver shines the river, and young lips are singing
Songs as old as Eden-as old and as dear;
'April again!'

April again! with a wet wind blowing,
And along the western sky a pathway of gold;
Sounds a call to follow the road we're not knowing,
A new road-a wild road-o'er fairy lands unrolled,-
'April again!'

April again! with its wonder of gladness,
April with its haunting joy, and swift-stinging tears,-
Month of mist and music, and the old moon-madness,
Month of magic fluting, the spirit only hears,-
'April again!'

Songs For Scarlett

THE SUNLIGHT CAUGHT IN HER VOICE

The darkness
of her hair

& the blue
in her eye

sang of her

& transformed
the world

into a beauty
a child could see

notes like
drops of rain dripping

from a branch

the sunlight caught
in her voice

memory forever
holding still

the song of the blue
in her eye

the song of the darkness
in her hair.

* * * * * * *

AND THE SONG SUNG

And the song
sung to please

had its own
song

that hid
within the song

or ran in &
out among the words

like delighted child

hovering above
or lingering below

the melody line

the song of my mother
singing singing

as if her heart
would break

or break
the heart of others

the song
that sang her

hiding now
at its finish

in the toss of her hair
the tear in her eye.

* * * * * * *

EVEN TIME STOPPED TO LISTEN

In my mind
you will be

always singing

forever held
in the spell

of your voice

even Time
stops to listen

& I
always your child

lost in the magic
of your song

eternally.

* * * * * * *
I awoke at 2.30 in the morning with the image of your mother and the song of her blue eyes and black hair singing in my mind and wrote these 3 poems down as if in a dream and went to sleep again. I awoke to the morning and they were still there. I hope they do her justice. See now how you who have set her singing in your poems…set her singing in my heart now.

Chick Magnet

Don’t play the cello if you want
to be a magnet for the chicks,
a guy who on guitar strings picks
is thought be far more gallant.
I learnt this fact from Yo-Yo Ma,
who probably believes that poets
have also far more luck with coeds
than cellists. Maybe many are,
but I am not, unfortunate
with poems as he is with cello.
I wish I were a magnet fellow,
and made the chicks importunate,
first for my poems, then my bod,
but since I don’t play the guitar,
my life is black as café noir,
and I am lonelier than God.

Charlie Rose on December 3,2008 interviewed Yo-Yo Ma, who accompanied on his cello the singer and songwriter from North Carolina, James Taylor, who also plays the guitar. Yo Yo explained that he has played the cello since the age of three, and that this has not made him a chick magnet. James Taylor started off by playing the cello but gave it up for the guitar, which Yo-Yo considers a wise decision.

The Voice I Remember

I remember the voice. Quiet,
soft as a caress on the back of my neck,
coating my heart and mind
the way dust settles
when the air goes still.
A landslide of light
swallowing everything in its path,
leaving all undisturbed, cool
and dressed to face the sun.
I remember the way his voice carried my name
like a prince to the throne.
The voice was strength and calm in the same note
-the last note he ever sang.
I remember the voice. I hear that note
and I know the way home.

Recollection - First Poetic Impulse

my first poetic impulse
was in my pre school days
i must have been only four
years old lying sweet on the
kitchen floor one fine morning
sucking on my milk bottle

out on the tip of a pointed roof
a magpie had gathered itself
comfortably and started singing
its heart out to the sun just beginning
to warm up the new day

its song was edged like the roof
pointed here and there
in the rhythm and fractured tone
of a disconcerted soul
complaining all the world's
injustices to the heavens
like a chirpy woman crying mad about
poor treatments of her in laws

it sang for so long i was
provoked to ask the bird
what it was pining all about
about the black and white
of its days?

i asked and it sang
i asked and it sang
beak pointed to the sky

i asked and it sang
i asked and it sang
until it thought it was done
and flew away without a note
leaving a trail of silence and
melancholy on an empty
roof, the morning and -
an unrequited heart

A Musical Note

Liddle lie, liddle lie, liddle lie lay lee.
Liddle lie, liddle lie, liddle lie lay low.
These are the words that were sent to me
in a letter from my brother-in-law-Joe.

He said as the cock-crowed last Tuesday morning
he heard singing coming from down his garden.
Surprised and not believing what he was hearing
he went to see where the sound was coming from.

As he casually walked to the bottom of the garden
the singing became louder with his every stride.
He slowly parted the branches of the hedgerow
and saw a toad and mouse sitting side by side.

The toad sat cross-legged on a spotted toadstool
playing a mandolin and singing out loud.
The mouse was clapping in time to the music,
as were other animals that made up the crowd.

All the creatures joined in with the chorus
as they clapped and stamped their feet,
but then a mandolin string snapped and twanged,
which caused the toad to fall off his seat.

The audience stopped singing and fell about laughing,
as the toad got up from the ground,
he explained that the performance was now over
unless a new string could quickly be found.

With pain the mouse pulled out one of its whiskers
and asked the toad if it would be alright.
The musical toad smiled and said it would be perfect,
and adjusted the whisker to sound just right.

Once more the toad began playing and singing
to the happy hand clapping crowd.
Until a huge tabby tomcat called Thomas,
frightened everyone with its ‘meow’!

The Other Side Of Life

(alan obryant)
Praise God I feel like singing
Im on the other side of life now
All my days of sorrow
And tears for my loved ones
I wish I could tell them the door that I feel
Though my body is weary
My soul is uplifted
My sins are forgiven and my jesus is real
Praise God I feel like singing
Im on the other side of life now
Though my eyes are dim
I see heaven clearly
Though my voice grows feeble I sing just the same
In my heart theres a song
As I see the gates open
Ill sing forever my joyous refrain
Praise God I feel like singing

Im on the other side of life now

My Music Is My Life

MUSIC IS MY LIFE

I am just sitting here,
Making love to my guitar
Strumming out music,
My love doesn’t stray too far.

My music is my life,
And my love is a heart filled song.
As long as I’m singing,
I know there can be no wrong.

Hugs and kisses come easy,
From the strings that I caress.
There is nothing more pretty,
Than my guitar in full dress.

My music is my life,
And my love is a heart filled song.
As long as I’m singing,
I know there can be no wrong.

I am carried into ecstasy
With each note that floats out
Feel the music within me,
It’s busting its way out.

My music is my life,
And my love is a heart filled song.
As long as I’m singing,
I know there can be no wrong.

Play the music with me,
Sing and raise your voice.
You will feel the love of Music,
Your heart will have no choice.

My music is my life,
And my love is a heart filled song.
As long as I’m singing,
I know there can be no wrong.

Life cannot deny me love,
Or the music that’s inside me
The melodies are my heart and soul,
And it will always be my decree.
