Live To Tell

I have a tale to tell
Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall

Chorus:

A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned

Live To Tell (Live)

I have a tale to tell
Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well
I was not ready for the fall
Too blind to see the writing on the wall
A man can tell a thousand lies
Ive learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secrets I have learned, till then
It will burn inside of me
I know where beauty lives
Ive seen it once I know the warmth she gives
The light that you could never see
It shines inside, you cant take that from me
A man can tell a thousand lies
Ive learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secrets I have learned, till then
It will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell the secrets I knew then
Will I ever have a chance again ?
If I ran away, Id never have the strength to go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart ?
Will it grow cold the secrets that I hide ? Will I grow old ?
How would they hear ? They would they learn ?
How would they know ?
A man can tell a thousand lies
Ive learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell the secrets I have learned, till then
It will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell the secrets I knew then
Will I ever have a chance again ?

You Can Take It With You (When You Go)

Well, I'm gonna have to get a new mailbox
'Cuz all she left me was a hole
And I'm gonna hafta get a new washin' machine
As soon as I get some new clothes
Well, I could close my eyes and run through this house
And never once stub my big toe
It was a man who'd never been left who said
You can't take it with you when you go
Hell, she took everything but the kitchen sink
If I had me a glass Lord, I'd pour me a drink
It's a lesson hard learned but it just goes to show
You can take it with you when you go
Well, I'm sittin' here on this hard floor
Where a big, soft couch used to be
And I'm starin' at a bug on the wall
Where there used to be a TV
Well, I'd kill that sucker in a heartbeat
If I could find me anything to throw
I was so naive to have ever believed
You can't take it with you when you go
Well, she took everything but the kitchen sink
If I had me a glass Lord, I'd pour me a drink
It's a lesson hard learned but it just goes to show
You can take it with you when you go
Well, she took everything but the kitchen sink
If I had me a glass Lord, I'd pour me a drink
It's a lesson hard learned but it just goes to show
You can take it with you when you go
I oughta call somebody but I ain't got a phone
Just goes to show you can take it with you when you go

Hetuaght me a lesson

He said he was going to
teach me a lesson.
I needed to no some things.

The lesson was rape.
But he said it was a game.
He said I had to learn sometime.

When he'd finished.
He smiled and said.
This happens to
Stupid little girls
All the time.
I was only teaching you a lesson.

If it was a lesson to learn
It was one well tuaght.
Be weary of who you trust.

For you never can
Read people like a book.
If you could
The world would be safe.

It was a lesson hard learned.
One that still remains today.
Its a lesson that effects me still.

I only wish I could
Of turned and run.

Only when your young
Like that you dont
Really understand.
If I did
I would of ran.
A thousand miles a way.
Out of reach.
And out of harms way.

The Sound Of Wings.....

from the bars of the cell,
i learned freedom from the body.
from the underside of the bridge,
i learned home has not a house.
from forty years of working,
i learned the bitterness of the slave.
from the political lies,
i learned that truth cant be bought.
from the books i read,
i learned to reason and question.
from the heroin needle,
i learned the value of life.
from love lost,
i learned how to love.
from doubt i learned seeking,
in seeking i found god to be more.
from the scars on my heart,
i learned to be a man.
from battles fought and lost,
i learned the need for peace.
from discrimination i learned equality,
from anger i learned forgiveness.
from the mirror i learned responsibility...
from the bars of the cell,
i learned the sound of wings!

Epiphany, Dead Man Walking

i learned to walk again,
the day you drove away
and left me standing in the drive...

i learned to see again,
staring at old photographs
in a book hid away.

i learned to think again,
thinking, and rethinking
every move and every action.

i learned to feel again,
struck dumb with waves of sorrow,
with blood on my lips.

i learned to cry again,
in the dark and sleepless night,
when no one else could see.

i learned to fight again,
pushed back against the wall
with nothing left to lose.

i learned to pray again,
to a God that doesnt answer,
from the gates of hell.

i learned to dream again,
violent shaking nightmares,
waking up to a cold sweat.

i learned to love again
to cherish every moment,
every touch forgotten.

i learned to walk again,
and walked off into the sunset
with our hearts in my hands.

Do Not Wait For Others to Live Up to Expectations

I've learned a few things...
With time and age.
And what experience brings.

One major lesson,
That took a long time for me to accept!
Do not wait for others to live up to expectations.
Yours or theirs,
Suspected or professed.

Time will move on and leave you in regret.
That has been the best lesson yet,
I have learned!

Ready To Meet Him

[talking]
Please give me the strength I need to live...
Bear with me
Amen
We each walk the path, that weve chosen
[chorus]
Im ready to meet him,
Were Im living aint right
Black hate white
White hate black
Its right back
To the same fight
They got us suspecting a war
But the real war is to follow the law of the lord
Lord, you left me stranded
And I dont know why
Told me to live my life,
Now Im ready to die
Ready to fly
I cry, but I shed no tears
You told me you would dead those fears, its been years
Snakes still coming at me
Just missing
Sometimes I think all you doing me is just listen
I thought that I was special
Thats what you told me
Hold me
Stop acting like you dont know me
Whatd I do so bad that it sent you away from me
Not only sent you away, but made you stay away from me
(my child Im here, as Ive always been, it was you who went away,
And now are back again, what did I say? )
Follow your word, and be true
(what did you do? )
Wellwhat I wanted to do...
(what have you seen? )
Darkness and hell at a glance
(what do you want? )
All I want is another chance
Chorus
(just because you went away, my doors are not locked, wanna come back home,
All you gotta do is knock)
Ya see, I left home a boy, I returned as a man
Full grown, and Im still not able to stand
(I gave you a hand)
Well...but I was looking the wrong way
Figured out the plan, then I started to pray
And that prayer, took me from here to over there
Back to over here,
Now they got me like where?
Do I belong?
Do I fit in?
Things on my mind, where do I begin?
Its easier to sin, but it hurts my heart
Im really tryin to win, so where do we start?
(thou shall not steal)
But, what if he stole from me?
(thou shall not kill)
But what if hes tryin to kill me?
(thou shall not, take my, name in vain, no matter how hard it rains,
Withstand the pain)
Chorus
Our father, who art in heaven
Im not ashamed to ask for guidance, at 27
No longer afraid to knock on your door
Not scared anymore to lose my life in the war
After what I just saw, Im ridin with the lord
Cause I really cant afford to lose my head by the sword
And now that Ive seen, what I need to see
Please take me, where I need to be
(what have you learned? )
Its better to tell the truth than to lie
(what have you learned? )
To love my life until I die
(what have you learned? )
Violence isnt always the key
(what have you learned? )
You cant always believe what you see
(what have you learned? )
Its better to forgive and forget
(what have you learned? )
Give as you expect to get
(what have you learned? )
That I cant go on without you
(what have you learned? )
I musta been a fool to ever doubt you
Chorus
Im ready to meet him

Learned...

from being homeless,
i learned the value of home!
from being hungry,
i learned the value of being fed.
from being sick,
i learned the value of health.
from being left alone,
i learned the value of love.
from being confined in a cell,
i learned the value of freedom.
from being persecuted,
i learned the value of human rights.
from being an infidel,
i learned to see the face of god...

Awake

(adapted from the rubaiyat of omar khayyam)
The dawning of a brand new day
The waking of the whispers say:
That sleeping heavens will return
In deepest night the secret learned
And from these walls this city lies
The past will be our future
The journey will be over,
Awake!
I saw the writing on the wall
The story of our birth then fall
Within their tombs of holy stone
The scrolls of life, one man alone
So if we try, we can live and learn
The sands will pull you under
Dont let them pull you under
Awake!
I travelled to a foreign land
Through stormy seas and burning sand
Led by the stars the ancient stream
The call of treasures yet unseen
So if we climb to the rocks of kings
Together well discover
The source of all our wonder
Awake!
Someday were going to go back to the stars
And find the answer, who we really are
A traveller through the lonely mists of time
Creation from the sky
The dawning of a brand new day
The waking of the whispers say:
That sleeping heavens will return
In deepest night the secret learned
From these walls this city lies
The past will be our future
The journey will be over
Awake!
Someday were going to go back to the stars
And find the answer who we really are
A traveller through the lonely mists of time
Creation from the sky
Someday were going to back to the stars
And find the answer who we really are
If we try, we can live and learn
Together well discover
The source of all our wonder
Awake!
We saw the writing
We read the story
Awake!

Writing On The Wall

(1)
As sorry as it seems
It can be like it used to be
We live on broken dreams
Weve given up on trying
The face I thought I always knew
The picture that Id paint of you
Your crying eyes are lying
(chorus)
Cant you see the writing on the wall
Will the ghost from the past
Show us how it used to be
Draw the line on the things we said
Let them fade away
Now youll see the writing on the wall
Oh yea, everything that used to be
Is writing on the wall
All the time we fooled ourselves
Had some fun if nothing else
But oh our little world was dying

How To Survive Without Riches

First,
We must relax.
And begin to breathe...
Slowly.
In with the new.
And out with the old.
In with the new.
And out with the old.
Remember...
There is only one cycle of breath.

Now...
We are all ready,
To learn a lesson about trust.

Let us all close our eyes...
Gently.
Deep breathe...and,
In with the new.
And out with the old.
In we go...
With the new,
AND...
Removed from us,
Is the old!

In with the...

'Hey?
My watch is gone.'

~Where are my shoes?
My wallet is missing.~

'You said,
We are all going to learn a lesson about trust.
Everything has been taken from us.'

Trust!
Has been a lesson...
A major lesson,
All of you have learned today.

~TRUST?
Everything.
Our valuables have been stolen from us.
That's not trust.
That's THEFT! ~

I disagree.
IN with the NEW.
And OUT with the OLD.
There is nothing crooked about that.
And TRUST?
I think you all have learned that lesson.
DO NOT EVER DO IT!
EVER...
AGAIN!

'What about our valuables?
Our things? '

You have all signed contracts,
Stating you come to me...
For lifestyle changes!
And...
You can admit with assessment,
Everyone here has experienced...
Immediate and rapid change.
Have you not?

I will expect all of you back,
For the next session...
BASIC LIVING!
HOW TO SURVIVE WITHOUT RICHES.
And...
STILL FEEL THE GLOW Of LOVE!

First Year University Expereinces

I learned why it is not wise to skip class often

I learned that skipping homework in university is not the same as skipping homework in high school

I learned what it feels like to be awake for over 2 days

I learned how to smoke pot from a bong

I learned how to compose an essay the day before it's due

I learned that the Freshman 15 is no joke

I learned how to do laundry

I learned to pretend to be happy

I learned to multitask

I learned to be more sociable

I learned why my parents and teachers warned me about the difficulty of university

I learned that failing is expensive

I learned small things, like freshly washed bed sheets, make me happy
I learned to lie

I learned how expensive alcohol is

I learned what it feels like to be a failure

I type this rant while skipping my business ethics class as I further delay the composition of my psychology term paper

Stung

Lies.
My lies.
My lies.

I learned to quick admit them.

Lies.
My lies.
My lies.

I learned to quick admit them.

When I was young I said I was stung by a bee.
And I was told not to go where I shouldn't be.
And then I 'fibbed' thinking this would benefit.
And right away my mama punished me for it...
'Cause I led.

Lies.
My lies.
My lies.

I learned to quick admit them.

Lies.
My lies.
My lies.

I learned to quick admit them.

My mama struck me and my lips went out poked.
She said don't ever lie and she was no joke.

And I cried.
I cried.
I cried.

My mama stung and I was punished...
From lies.
Telling lies.
My lies.

My mama stung and I was punished...
From lies.
Telling lies.
My lies.

And I learned quick to admit them!

Used To Be Bad

I used to be bad
But I dont have to be bad no more
Yeah, I used to be bad
But I dont have to be bad no more
Well aint no doubt about it, people
Its something you cant ignore
Well, I aint good looking
People, you know Ive been up on a shelf
Yes, I know I aint good looking
And Ive been put up on the shelf
But I got a sweet disposition
I like to enjoy myself
I used to be bad
But I dont have to be bad no more
Yeah, I used to be bad
But I dont have to be bad no more
You know I learned my lesson
A long, long time ago
Well, no matter what you say
No matter what you do
Youve got one life to live
Its gonna come back home to you
I used to be bad
But I dont have to be bad no more
Yeah, people, I learned my lesson
A long, long time ago
The good lord made this world
And everything thats in it
The way I see it, baby
You got to love it to the limit
Oh yes, now people
Its something you cant ignore
Yes I used to be bad
But I aint gonna be bad no more
Well, the way you treat me darling
Made me understand
Never quit you baby
Im gonna love you to the end.
Yeah, I used to be bad
But I aint gonna be bad no more
Yes, I learned my lesson
A long, long time ago
Yes, I learned my lesson
A long, long time ago
Yes, I learned my lesson
Youre gonna reap just what you sow

Its Time You Learned About Goodbye

(alan jackson)
Well Ive been on the wrong side
Of the front door too often
Watched you slam it in my face
Well I may have learned the hard way
Im not a soft one
Tonight Im standin in your place
Cause you taught me a lot about leavin
Wont even have to try
So heres your lesson in heartache and grievin
And a chance for you to cry
Cause its time you learned about goodbye
Ive stood behind you
And Ive laid beside you
But I wont do that anymore
Cause Im tired of bein
Just here when you want me
Tonight Im walkin out that door
Cause you taught me a lot about leavin
Wont even have to try

I've learned

Ive learned that to love someone doesnt have to involve pain,
Ive learned that to have a friend you must be a friend first,
Ive learned that in time youll see your mistakes and learn from them,
Ive learned that to be alone sometimes is the best thing for you,
Ive learned that in order to love a person you must feel loved,
Ive learned that if your wrong admit it or youll never forgive yourself,
Ive learned that your first love will be a part of you and you may never forget,
Ive learned that in order to move on you must fix what was first wrong,
Ive learned that if you ever mess up, you can always start over again,
Ive learned that to be 'cool' doesnt involve pressure,
Ive learned to accept what I have and be happy,
Ive learned that people will come and go so tell the ones you love how you feel,
Ive learned that to respect yourself you must respect others,
Ive learned that your actions always involve consequences whether it be good or bad,
Ive learned that priceless words can mean the world to someone,
Ive learned that sometimes being silent is the best solution,
Ive learned to expect the unexpected,
Ive learned that healing a broken heart involves tears and pain,
Ive learned to see the world in the eyes of others,
And Ive learned that each new day is a day to touch a life.

What I Learned Today

What I learned today is that there will be a tomorrow,
what I learned today is the truth is full of pain and sorrow.

What I learned yesterday is people make mistakes,
what I learned yesterday is I will do whatever it takes.

What I learned Saturday when i watched you leave I take back
what I said, what I learned Saturday is when we fought i dread.

What I learned now is that part of my heart is gone,
what I learned now is you will no longer wake me up at dawn.

It is quiet with out you,
I feel I have many things to do.

The Bigger The Fool

(jim rushing/larry cordle)
Her long legs looked like trouble
As she sasheyed through the door
And my mind flashed a warning sign
That i chose to ignore
For the prize i thought i could win
The risk seemed mighty small
The bigger the fool the harder the fall
Fell in love in the heat of passion
Oh, but passion has it's price
Under all that beauty
Beat a heart that was made of ice
God knows as far as i could see she didn't have a flaw
But the bigger the fool the harder the fall
I said a woman to keep
The softer the skin
The sweeter the love
The more bitter the end
Well, one lesson i've learned that applies to all
The bigger the fool the harder the fall
One day she was lovin' me
The next day she was gone
And i became another verse
To a lonesome heartbreak song
Now that i've learned to face the truth
The words stick in my craw
Well, the bigger the fool the harder the fall
I said a woman to keep
The softer the skin
The sweeter the love
The more bitter the end

Back To Avalon

A vision,
A flash of light
A gift we were given
Within each others dreams
We lived in the gardens of Avalon
Together
Believed that we could live there forever
Then it faded away
Forgetting we wondered to far from the land we'd known
Chorus:
Of all the lonely people
You're among the lucky few
If it comes even once in a life
Love is a lesson hard to learn
It's never as easy to return
But if you're willing to go on
you'll find the way back to Avalon... (Avalon)
They had it
It wasn't far away or imagined
He held her in his arms
And we planned it all
The towers of Avalon
They warned him
He only turned around for a moment
And everything had changed
He noticed the sun on her face as she looked away
Chorus:
All the lonely people
You're among the lucky few
If it comes even once in a life
And love is a lesson hard to learn
It's never as easy to return
But if you're willing to go on
You'll find a way back to Avalon
Bridge:
And when you come know the miracle it's mystical
and someone else's heart is in your hands
I learned to late now I must try and find a way back home
Chorus:
Here is a lesson hard to learn
It's never as easy to return
But if you're willing to go on
You'll find a way back to Avalon... (Avalon)
We've gotta go back
Someday we'll get back
(Avalon)
We gotta get it back
(Avalon)
We gotta get it back
(Avalon)
Somebody tell me a way
Somebody tell me a way
(Avalon)
Ohhhhhh.... Avalon
We've got to go back
