Mountains, Canyons, and Rivers

Mountains, canyons, and rivers.
In the material and abstract they're nature.
We never were receivers, nor givers.
We were never indecisive, nor were we sure.

Mountains, tall and grand,
Might one see it as an obstacle?
On the other side lies a land,
In abstract and material, is much like a miracle.

Canyons, deep and daunting,
Might one see it as a rift?
Separated from one so loved, you stand staring.
Stand upright from where you lie; I'll give you a lift.

Rivers, soothing in a mellifluous flow,
Might one see it as their life?
By dawn and dusk you row,
Through a flow devoid of strife.

Mountains, canyons, and rivers.
We've seen them as ourselves.
And through realization in form of shivers,
We see sentience in us that delves.

Mountain Peak

We came together on the highest mountain on this earth.
As years went by we separated into rivers
from the tears this mountain cried.
We all fell into different rivers flowing though
forests, rocks, and waterfalls.
No matter what season we came across
we continued flowing.
We are rivers that started in the mountains,
and rivers that separated as we went through
many waterfalls.
Sometimes we travel together,
and other times we travel alone.
Always remember that these same rivers
that travel many miles through the earth
are once again together when it reaches its final destination
the “Ocean”
So, rivers that started up high in the mountains
and then separated are united
again as a family.

I Asked the Voice

I asked the voice,
to lead me down,
the valley of despair,
rivers flowing with no care,
peaceful, sweetness all around,
blue birds singing their song,
butterflies so many,
I asked the voice,
of my troubles
my journey is done?
Oh no, many more to come.
Rivers flowing with much woe,
stand firm, take the flow,
hardships, up and down,
floating thru life,
having much strife,
in the end, its how,
you handle it all,
you surely will stand tall,
mountains will be moved,
Islands done away with,
your heart sound,
your feet on clouds,
so high,
things of life past,
memories faded away,
this day at last,
your life you have away cast
what you have done,
is over very fast,
and the journey,
has come to an end.

Steep

Much ado is all I see
(although my roots were deep)
In fact it is surrounding me
The seething crowd intrudes all day
(I sank in hillsides deep)
Until Im finally swept away
Although I thought my roots were deep
(the rivers that erode)
I sank them into hillsides steep
And riverbanks that soon erode
(and canyons overflow)
And canyons that have overflowed

Let The Tears Dry

Let the tears dry and bring back your smile,
Hear the mountains cry.
The tears will grow where you laid your tears,
Rivers will flow, rivers will flow,
Flow where you rest your fears.
A soul has fled when the blood was shed,
A soul that cared for life so deeply.
The memory will grow in us
And make you and I a family.

America

I love thine inland seas,
Thy groves of giant trees,
Thy rolling plains;
Thy rivers' mighty sweep,
Thy mystic canyons deep,
Thy mountains wild and steep,
All thy domains;

Thy silver Eastern strands,
Thy Golden Gate that stands
Wide to the West;
Thy flowery Southland fair,
Thy sweet and crystal air, --
O land beyond compare,
Thee I love best!

Doubts

These words I write
no longer seem my own,
I am fading away
in the shadow of where they've grown.
Once a raven standing bravely alone
in the cold field of snow,
now covered and frozen
at twenty below.

I walk and walk and walk.
Looking, for the treasure.
I walk a thousand miles
to find the place,
where I can look into a mirror
and finally recognize my own face.
I go through large cities
and small towns,
gazing through the windows I pass,
and still, nothing new is found.

If somehow I knew I'd never
die,
Would I still love the birds sailing through the
sky;
The majestic mountains stretching way up
high;
Would anything mysterious move me enough to
cry;
Could I ever again gaze upon devine beauty and simply
sigh?

My heart has caused me to pursue
treasure tales from long ago.
Up strange mountains, through flowing rivers, into deep canyons.
I have chased the gold that may not even exist,
and loved every magic moment of it.
I doubt I've ever entirely returned.
... and am only certain
that I never shall...

Let us be like rivers, Love

The Table shall never meet the Fuji again
Let us be like rivers, Love
Great rivers, not mountains!
On their epic journey to grace
The Land of the gods with much needed hope
Where an arid desert is the ‘mirror of heaven’
Great rivers run from a Great Lake
Ignorant of borders, boundaries or nationalities
They run
But no matter how long or how apart they grow
Great rivers are sure to become one sometime
At the edge of some distant sea

Rising Sun, Setting Sun

how nice it is to be some birds
especially the little feathery ones
so economical and heavenly they are on speech
but when they do talk, they are usually music for the ears
echoing in the mountains, and valleys, and canyons
a gentle orchestra for the rising sun, setting sun

how nice it is to be some birds
especially the little feathery ones
so economical and heavenly they are on speech
but when they do talk, they are usually music for the ears
echoing in the mountains, and valleys, and canyons
tying up the loose ends of creation

The Rivers of a Poet

The Rivers of the Poet

The verses of the poet
vary from the rivers
though they also flow
while circulating inside
until materializing
in words and verses
that others can see.

The poet’s soul communions
with the exterior world
and flows like the rivers
with each inspiration.

The rivers of the poet
do dry inside of him
as he writes,
but it is forever
that they flow in written form
upon the sheets of paper.

That is how
the rivers of the poet
leave and manage to stay
until another river
appears and flows
with another inspiration.

Land O Free Love Goodbye

Oh the trees grow higher than the mountains
In the land of free love and goodbye
The rivers ever flowing, fishing growing
And the God I love loves me.
In the sky rides a gleam of white horses
And the glimmer clean in your eye
The bird of dawn is bringing
The simpleness of singing
And the God I love loves me.
Oh the trees grow higher than the mountains
In the land of free love and goodbye
The rivers ever flowing, fishing growing
And the God I love loves me.
And the sun lies all around
And everything is as it must be
And winter lies underground
And the God I love loves me.

Negro Speaks of Rivers

I've known rivers:
I've known rivers ancient as the world and older than the
flow of human blood in human veins

My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

I bathed in the Euphrates when dawns were young
I built my hut near the Congo and it lulled me to sleep.
I looked upon the Nile and raised the pyramids above it.
I heard the singing of the Mississippi when Abe Lincoln
went down to New Orleans, and I've seen its muddy
bosom turn all golden in the sunset

I've known rivers:
Ancient, dusky rivers.

My soul has grown deep like the rivers.

Fall Drama

Like myriad jewels October comes
Topaz and flaming red
The length and breadth of slopes
And canyons of the White Mountains.
Rays of morning sun glint scarlet-gold,
Leaves glow in dew-damp air,
Give promise of never-ending loveliness.
O opulent October,
You give us one last show before
November winds ravage leaf and limb
And all your red-gold harvest lies
In heaps upon the ground.
O, October, how can we feel gladness
Beguided by your pageantry...
When trees stand bare and mute,
We wil remember your grand performance
Was but the prelude to a death-like sleep.

Rivers Of Life

As tiny streams begin to flow, into larger rivers they shall grow.
Tiny streams of gentle peace, of waters that seem not to cease.
But as the rivers begin to grow, the deeper waters begin to flow.
In these deeper waters cease, the gentle flow of endless peace.

These rivers then snake the land, guided by God’s mighty hand.
And each and every river flows, as God directs the way it goes.
We too are guided by God’s hand, as we journey upon this land.
And God directs how life goes, gently guiding wherever it flows.

Coursing through all of our life, there are rivers filled with strife.
But in a river filled with grief, there are currents of gentle relief.
All the temporal rivers of strife, flow to an ocean of Eternal Life.
Where we’ll find eternal relief, from the turbulent waters of grief.

All the waters we pass through, God beforehand always knew.
And He will be right at your side, even when in the deepest tide.
This He told us so we knew, deeper waters He’d see us through.
So when we’re in a rough tide, God will see us to the other side.

The troubled waters that we see, will all end one day in Eternity.
The ending of this troubled life, is the Hope for all in Jesus Christ.
As we enter the peace of Eternity, when His Blessed face we see.
So believe today in Jesus Christ, and you will inherit Eternal Life.

Death Of The Trees

My town is a place where
The rich tourists come,
With mountains and rivers
That glint in the sun!
Luxuriant beaches
Of ivory sand,
But all the jade forests
Now no longer stand!

There once were lush jungles
That grew dense and tall,
But woodcutters came when
The town was still small...
They hacked all the trees down
And shipped them away,
In huge merchant vessels
That sailed to the bay!

They went back to Europe
With precious hard woods,
Sold it as furniture
And other fine goods...
I wish I could travel
In time to the day
Before people cleared all
The forests away!

I wish I had seen them
Before settlers came,
The mountains and rivers
May still be the same...
Iron, Yellow, Black Wood
And most of all trees,
Don't sway any more in
The fresh coastal breeze...

Beautiful Nation

Cradle of man, cradle of life
Your waters flow far and beyond
Rivers of life, rivers of peace.

Along the shores, beyoond the planes
Sweet melodious voices and Smiling faces
Childhood inocence, Pride of a people
Pride beyond pride.

Land of beauty, Pearl of the motherland
Beyond the skies, mountains arise
I see the Elgon, I see the Ruwenzori
The dark fertile soils, dark prideful roast.

A city of seven hills
Mother of one hundred tribes
Sons and daughters of many sheds all together as one.

Mother Earth

The sun shines down on you today
don't let it fade away
hear all of Gods' creation sing
while we watch the children play
we come before you and pray
oh great spirit in the sky

Mother Earth holds on to me
deep in her soul
and I just can't let her go
as she sets me free

On this mountain I stand
I hold out my hand
and I thank you
for everything you do
for the mountains and the trees
the deserts and the breeze

What the beauty of tomorrow could bring
if we just let the rivers flow
to walk softly
touch it all so gently
and give back what belongs to her

If we would only let the trees grow
cherish what was once a sacred land
then we would'nt have to watch her die

Dark River

Swift 'n deep you run “Dark River”
Flowing relentless to a distant sea
You care not what gets in your way
Oh, impassive taker and faux-giver

How many canyons have you carved?
How many great trees carried away?
How many sins have washed clean?
Not even Mother Nature you obey

Dark River brought love to me
Then quickly washed it away
Deep ‘neath a million ripples
My fragile heart she did betray

Flow on Dark River, flow on
A Briny fate awaits, flow on

Psalm 46

You're a present help in time of need
And so, we shall not fear
Though the earth it shakes and the mountains fall
We stand for you are near

If God be in the midst of us
We shall not be moved
For the rivers flow and the streams make glad
All our troubles are removed

And just as it is darkest
Right before the dawn
God shall shout with a mighty voice
And angels add their song

Shout to God in victory
He burns chariots with fire
The Kingdoms moved and nations raged
And sunk into the mire

Be still and know that I am God
I'm your refuge and strong high tower
I'll break the bonds and end all wars
In this the final hour
