Under Interrogation
I'm without a nuke to send!
Will it be rumored I have one hidden?
Beneath a chair...
Where I sit in the den?
Will a stockpile be found,
Under my bed where I sleep sound?
Will I awaken to discover,
My home has been impound?
And I watch the news to learn...
I'm living a secret life underground?
Will my neighbors I've known for years,
Suspect me of being a terrorist...
To incite more of their fears?
Because one day I decide,
To have a drink of vodka with a lemon twist?
Instead of a cold beer that is near.
Oh my...
Oh dear!
What have we here?
If I should bump my toe,
And begin to walk with a limp.
Will I be arrested...
Because I carry a scent of liniment?
And gossip begins to start,
I'm using a ton of it to pay my rent!
Will I find my face,
On the front page in newsprint?
Because I happen to be in a good mood one day...
And felt a smile I gave and meant!
But confessed,
Under interrogation...
My happiness was a cover,
To spread evil intent!
Since I was followed and spied upon.
And not a hint of a grin to me was sent!
Oh my...
Oh dear!
What have we here?
Should I hide my peace of mind?
And pretend I seek,
A life that reeks of embellished crime?

Dear And Sweet
Dear sweet and loving wife
You give me love and also life
You give me happiness and never strife
Without you my love how could I survive.
You have turned our house into a home
The love we have it is always shown
Together forever in life we’ve been sewn
Never will we ever be sad or alone.
When I am off to work I think about you
As I know there will always be us two
To live without your love I have not a clue
When we sleep at night my soul you soothe.
Dear sweet and loving mother
As I know like you there is no other
You keep me warmth you are my cover
You gave me life and also life to discover.
You kiss me goodnight when I go to sleep
When I am sad you help me not to weep
No steps you said for me are ever to steep
You taught me truth and not deceit.
You taught me honesty and never to lie
Honor and pride you said will be at my side
Because of you I wear a smile at night
As you gave me love and you gave me might.
Dear sweet and loving mistress
Does your husband know you are my misses
For myself you will cheat as you undress
Your children do not know that you never confess.
You come visit me when your family is asleep
You sneak out your house so not to make a peep
As my life and myself is all that you seek
I wonder does anyone know the secrets we do keep.
When your husband is at work you are thinking about me
When your children are at school you are free
Whatever I say or do you will always believe
Hopefully the truth you will never find or see.
Dear mean and hateful woman
You have done again things that you shouldn’t
Though we are all weak and only human
You have done things that any other couldn’t.
You suppose to give your family your very best
So your soul and life would of been blessed
But then you gave your feelings to all the rest
In love and life you should never start another quest.
But in the end of course you will be caught
You lied to everyone and against what you taught
Righteousness and love and truth you never sought
Your body has been sold and your soul has been bought.

Smile Will Ya
Smile will ya, they tell me, but they do not comprehend
That humor is not lost to me, it's simply on the mend
Life got in the way and I don't laugh as I once did
Perhaps They don't see or understand the things I've hid
There never was a time when laughter came easily to me
But that was long ago, before I found my beloved sea
Where I could watch the sunrise as it transends horizons there
In fondness, recollecting all those memories…I cared
However I am mindful that I smile even less than before
And I am taking steps to find my humor and restore
Expressions of delight that hide behind these fortress walls
Sequestered, how am I to walk, or run before I crawl?
Perhaps my laughter is hidden, for this is just a way
Of seeking out the child in me who never got out to play
I'm searching through the annals of my bewildered, fouled up, mind
In hot pursuit of this, my search, I've yet to uncover, even find…
But I am drawing nearer to that, it is my journeys end
And all I ask is patience while I sit here and pretend
Maybe, I'll even invent one new word you'll never find
In any dictionary, of any kind, for the humor is in my mind…
Consider this, my darlings, both kind and oh so vile
Perhaps it's my awareness that it's you who doesn't smile
So what you see, reflects upon your instabilities
Maybe you're the one to knock, for smiles you do not see…
And while I'm on this subject, bear in mind these words I write
Are from the heart of this poet, who has often lost this fight
This time there is no light reading in my world of poetry
It bears the weight and burden of our failed society
…
This poet bears a cross you cannot carry, or wish to find
And so my humor's hidden in the recesses of my mind
Perhaps it is YOUR task to seek, discover, then in a while
Realize you're the one whose lacking the ability to smile!

How Do You Sleep
I place my head between my hands
As once again I softly weep
I think to myself, as there is no one else,
Please tell me; How do you sleep.
Do you not think of the things you have done
Or the lies and untruths that you have said
It pains my mind, probably till the end of time
Until the time that we both are dead.
You tell your lies as they are the truth
So you can cover up your ways and sin
Do you believe your lies, as the truth you deny
Thinking your innocent in front of God and men
As I sit alone in my chair
Thinking of the secrets you did keep
With your picture in hand, I cant understand
Then I say to you; how do you sleep.
I trusted you with all that I know
And I gave you all that I had to give
You were my life, and you were my wife
And i’d give you my soul for you to live.
But then your past it caught up with you
A time that I knew nothing about
When you were wild, like a crazy child
Who got there way, as it ended out.
As I walk through out the house
As for answers I still try to seek
I walked through our home, now I am alone,
Please tell me; how do you sleep.
As I look back at the things you have done
Remembering the vows that you had broke
And In my brain, now there is only pain
With all the lies you've done and spoke.
I find my bible and it I begin to read
Someday the devil will have your soul to reap
Until that time, your words are a crime,
And please tell me; how do you sleep.

My Dear
Written by dewey bunnell, 1983
Found on your move, premium gold collection, centenary collection, and highway.
Here in the dawn
As I walk through this dream
As I have done since ages now gone
Shall I read you the letter
They sent postmarked from somewhere out here
Its in latin, I think, I dont know
Can you help me, my dear
Please, can you help me, my dear
Near to their bed (they never sleep)
They sit sipping their tea, watch the sea
Move the sand through their heads (sit in their chairs by the bay)
Did I show you the marks on the wall
Left by captains now dead (house out on the cove)
They fell fighting for peace in their lives
Or so it is said (still nobody seems to be here)
Please, can you help me, my dear
Please, can you help me, my dear
You cant miss it
A blue forest on a green sky
You must risk it
Dont ignore us if you want us to
If we want us to survive
Where will I be (cant you help me to find my way)
After watching them walking the pier
At the mouth of the sea (Ive been lost for so long)
Theyre in love with the news
And dont show if theyre living in fear (still nobody seems to be here)
They eat ice cream alone
Watch the waves at the end of the pier (ah, nobody seems to hear)
Please, can you help me, my dear
Please, can you help me, my dear

I've Found The Secret
I've found the secret.
It's not hidden anymore.
But I must hide it
like it was before.
It needs to be hidden.
For it is forbidden.
I know the secret.
But I'll keep it still.
I must never divulge it.
It must never spill
into the mind of anyone
to let their peace come undone.
I hate the secret
for it ruins my sleep.
But the secret is mine,
mine to keep.
The secret I know
can be yours.
If you find it
it will open all doors.

Life is Moving and Changing
Life means constant change,
Movements as heart beats range.
Face what comes, be flexible,
Live in peace and happiness if possible.
When you gripe and oppose,
Life still forces on you the dose
Relax; know that all works for good,
Be wise, calm and watch your mood.
Realize that you cannot force others
To love or help you in your travels
Then you find true contentment
You'll be truly happy and independent.
Learn from the past, but have high hope
For a better tomorrow to develop.
Be always thankful, face what come,
That your life would become venturesome.
The real success in life is when you know
You are the one who attracts happiness or sorrow.
Learn to relax and know all works for good,
When you believe, you'll never be misunderstood.
When you learn as life goes on
With more wisdom you faster run
Life will be joy and completeness
You will know who you are
And you will be fearless.

I Have a Secret to Keep
I have a secret to keep
A secret to keep that deprives me of sleep
It deprives me of sleep but leaves me a smile
A smile when I think of what I feel inside
What I feel inside is the start of something good
Something good that leads to something nice
Something nice that could become something more
Something more than just a smile
Just a smile is what I wear these days
These days when I think of what could yet happen
What could yet happen could be extraordinary
Extraordinary, special, overdue and because of you
Because of you I wear this smile on my face
This smile on my face that reveals my feelings
My feelings that have grown when I thought they were gone
They were gone the last time I got hurt
I got hurt before you came into my life but
You came into my life and put a smile on my face
A smile on my face only hints at what’s inside and
What’s inside is a secret I get to keep
But only for now.

R U Sure About That?
Can you try to hide
What's in your heart
What's on your mind
Can you carry on
Like nothing's wrong
Go on and on
Are you sure about that
You've been pushed
You've been shoved
You've been left and unloved
Oh why do you still stay
So many tears that you cry every night
But ya know your life doesn't have to be this way
You got hurts deep inside
It's only right that someone should say
Can't forget all the scars
He left on your heart
All the promises he made
You've gotta let it out girl
You've gotta let it go
You've got give it up
If you really wanna know
The truth about life girl
The secret of love
Is living inside you
It's dying to break through
the walls around your heart
Can you try to hide
What's in your heart
What's on your mind
Can you carry on
Like nothing's wrong
Go on and on
Are you sure about that
You've been up
You've been down
You've been all around
You broke all the rules
It was good for awhile
You hid behind a smile
But now you're broken
And you're bruised
Have you ever considered
that life is a invitation for you
to decide in your mind
to accept or decline the reality of truth
You've gotta let it out boy
You've gotta let it go
You've got it give it up
If you really wanna know
The truth about life boy
The secret of love
You've done it your way for so long
So tell me when's enough enough
Can you try to hide
What's in your heart
What's on your mind
Can you carry on
Like nothing's wrong
Go on and on
Are y

In the spirit of Rumi - 23
I asked My Beloved
How may I know the secret
of being a perfect Sufi,
insan al-kamil,
a perfect Friend of God?
My Beloved said
You will never in your life be sure;
and that is just how it should be;
that way, you will be safe in Me;
instead, seek always where My secret might be found:
as you walk, look closely at all of nature;
every flower, every tree, every lake, every cloud,
every bird, every animal;
look closely at them, to see
if they hold My secret;
as you walk down the street,
look into the eyes of each human being
to see if they know My secret in their heart;
listen to every sound and every word
in case My secret hides within them;
or in the scent of roses, or in the taste of food;
go to sleep with this question on your lips,
wake with this question in your mind;
and though you will never find the answer,
one day the question shall cease to be a question
and become the song which you have always known.

A Beauty Hint
Sweet, think how much the better it would be
If you thro' life should thus preserve your beauty.
It really doesn't matter much to me;
But don't you think you owe the world a duty,
And don't you think that thro' some kindly thought -
Of me, for instance - beauty were well bought?
Those wrinkles on your face, dear,
Those bags beneath your eyes
Are but the evil trace, dear,
Of temper, spite and lies.
Why can't you be a saint, dear,
Like dear old Joan of Arc;
Be pleasant - which you ain't, dear,
And do not be a nark.
Consider, sweetheart, if you smiled always
How much, thro' weeks, your face might be improving;
In place of which, in these unhappy days,
You go to beauty shops for the removing
Of wrinkles, blemishes and ugly warts.
Why, when a smile will serve, seek these resorts?
Why can't you raise a grin, sweet,
And be a little beauty?
For ugliness is sin, sweet,
And loveliness a duty.
So, for my sake, why can't you make
An effort to he glad.
Just think of me and joyful be;
For I am not too bad.

The Workbox
See, here's the workbox, little wife,
That I made of polished oak.'
He was a joiner, of village life;
She came of borough folk.
He holds the present up to her
As with a smile she nears
And answers to the profferer,
''Twill last all my sewing years!'
'I warrant it will. And longer too.
'Tis a scantling that I got
Off poor John Wayward's coffin, who
Died of they knew not what.
'The shingled pattern that seems to cease
Against your box's rim
Continues right on in the piece
That's underground with him.
'And while I worked it made me think
Of timber's varied doom;
One inch where people eat and drink,
The next inch in a tomb.
'But why do you look so white, my dear,
And turn aside your face?
You knew not that good lad, I fear,
Though he came from your native place?'
'How could I know that good young man,
Though he came from my native town,
When he must have left there earlier than
I was a woman grown?'
'Ah, no. I should have understood!
It shocked you that I gave
To you one end of a piece of wood
Whose other is in a grave?'
'Don't, dear, despise my intellect,
Mere accidental things
Of that sort never have effect
On my imaginings.'
Yet still her lips were limp and wan,
Her face still held aside,
As if she had known not only John,
But known of what he died.

Beginning In The House of God
Friend God’s Judgment shall begin, within the very House of God,
As He lifts high, against her sin, His Standard and Righteous Rod,
For far too often believers tolerate, within their hearts and their life,
The many sins God does hate, that cause the Body pain and strife.
We forget His Righteous Decrees, even though we belong to Him.
Going on in life just how we please, while falling back into old sin.
It’s not done with any evil intent, but, just sins that still have a grip,
This with that old humanistic bent, and back into old ways we slip.
The sin of gossip, just simple talk, can tarnish a testimony friend,
As it also corrupt a believer’s walk, while hurting others in the end.
Going where we should not go, The Holy Spirit hears and grieves,
As that subtle sin begins to grow, and other sin it now conceives.
Strong anger then begins to flare, and this, inside another’s heart,
And one who simply had no care, before that gossip had its start.
The question this is sure to raise, as one’s heart begins to search,
Does it bring God any praise, in the Body called Christ’s Church?
Have we strayed to the place, within The Church of God’s people,
That it’s not a house of grace, but simply a whitewashed steeple?
We need today repentant hearts, in the Body that God holds dear,
Before His Spirit within departs, with God’s Judgment oh so near.

Feelings Of Guilt
Gee!
Please tell me this...
Am I the only one to awaken,
From a peaceful undisturbed sleep...
To feel immediately the presence of guilt?
I do.
Sometimes I do.
I awaken each day...
To first exercise and meditate.
I do my yoga routine.
And then with a gratefulness I pray.
To affirm my blessings.
And then a total and complete happiness,
Comes over me.
I want to scream with joy.
So loud it makes me feel gulty.
For years I've expressed,
My happiness with my neighbors.
A few, I know, are convinced...
I smoke crack.
Because I enjoy burning incense.
And most of my neighbors know that.
Sometimes I don't have a dime in my pocket.
And those close to me know this.
I can walk for miles...
With nothing but a smile on my face.
And I just might approach a stranger...
To ask why a frown that makes them look down,
To 'me' appears out of place.
I wont repeat some things they say.
'Uh...
No thanks!
I couldn't do that to myself,
If I wanted.
But...
You have a good day.'
Gee!
Please tell me this...
Am I the only one to awaken,
From a peaceful undisturbed sleep...
To feel immediately the presence of guilt?
I do.
Sometimes I do.
However...
I keep my routine the way it is.
I am the product of my experiences.
And naïve I am not.
Nor thoroughly innocent.
But feelings of GUILT?
Because I am happy?
Absolutely makes no sense!
Does it?
Does it to you?
What's the matter?
Why are you looking at me like that?

Are you with me?
If you listen to the old wise men,
You are on the front when the race is over, so listen,
If you want to find true happiness forever,
Open your mind and block out the deceiver.
If you want to know the truth for all time,
Go back and search for my messages and my rhyme.
If it was meant for you, you'll learn,
You'll find answers for all that what after you yearn.
Health, Wealth & true Happiness can be yours for free,
When you loose the ego, the will and you stop disagree.
Humble, easy going, kind and laughing,
Faith in goodness all the way, your life'll be only upswing.
But, watch it, it do not happen as the world teaches,
You'll be aware of your own experiences,
You'll face challenges easily and happily,
Life'll become an adventure for all eternity.

This world appears as a paradise
when i think of you my mom dear
Where I feel free to laugh and smile
And enjoy every bit that is here
I love you dearly my dear mom
You alwsy bring joy in my life
where sweet scent of evening breeze
Blows all around for fain to survive
I want to have you with me mom
To walk on the road I'm passing by
So we can enjoy each scene of life
As it appears before my eye
I love you and miss you mom
And wish to hold your hands my dear
For you're a prime source of life's joy
And you bring me happiness and cheer
And whenever you miss me dear mom
Just close your eyes and see
And deep inside your heart you'll find
Me, sitting and praying for thee.

Bring Yourself
You are a murder suspect
I am the dead body
You ripped out my heart
For everyone to see
Chalk outline shows where you planned
Planned for me to fall
The only question remains
”Why did you take it all? ! ”
Hello dear doctor
Hello evil inside
You are my sinister monster
You are my Mr. Hyde
I’m getting in to far now
I’m sinking in to deep
How do you bring yourself
Bring yourself to sleep.
As the moonlight shines in
I drink down this potion
I think I’m falling in love
But then I start to stand up
I see my reflection
I see everything has changed
But I still don’t stop
I can feel u in my veins!
Hello dear doctor
Hello evil inside
I’m a nefarious monster
Im the evil Hyde
I’m getting in to far now
I’m sinking in to deep
How can I bring myself
Bring myself to sleep.
Hello dear doctor
Hello evil inside
We are vicious monsters
We are the evil that resides
We’re getting in to far now
We’re sinking into deep
How can we bring ourselves
Bring ourselves to sleep.

When Death
(Yet another early work - one month shy of 17)
When death is coming up your walk,
And you're unaware of his escence,
You invite him in, and have a talk
Which reeks of omniprescence
When death is sitting in your home
And you're enchanted by his smile
He's been to places like Paris and Rome,
You ask him to stay awhile
When death is leaning very near,
And your house is all aglow,
He whispers something in your ear,
You know it's time to go
When death is touching you all around
And he plays within your head,
You cannot see, nor hear a sound,
You know you'll soon be dead
When death becomes a part of you,
In the still of night
There is nothing you can do,
Until you see the light
When death takes you to the place
Where you'll see the light,
You will not find a familiar face,
But you'll be too tired to fight
When death begins to say good bye
And says you're on your own
You watch the light, and then you sigh -
You see how bright it's grown
When death gets up, and walks through the light
(Which feels like half-melted ice)
You follow him through to discover your plight
And find you're in paradise

Your Way To Happiness
Pave the way for joy and smile
For these will take you far away miles
And will prove as your nice friends
With whom you feel happiness never end
So build a way for happiness dear
And know that its good to share
Your joy and fain and your fun
Before each day is through and done
And know and learn this my dear
That happiness in your way will appear
Only if it will get a chance
To show its presence in your life in advance.

To Edward Williams
I.
The serpent is shut out from Paradise.
The wounded deer must seek the herb no more
In which its heart-cure lies:
The widowed dove must cease to haunt a bower
Like that from which its mate with feigned sighs
Fled in the April hour.
I too must seldom seek again
Near happy friends a mitigated pain.
II.
Of hatred I am proud,--with scorn content;
Indifference, that once hurt me, now is grown
Itself indifferent;
But, not to speak of love, pity alone
Can break a spirit already more than bent.
The miserable one
Turns the mind’s poison into food,--
Its medicine is tears,--its evil good.
III.
Therefore, if now I see you seldomer,
Dear friends, dear FRIEND! know that I only fly
Your looks, because they stir
Griefs that should sleep, and hopes that cannot die:
The very comfort that they minister
I scarce can bear, yet I,
So deeply is the arrow gone,
Should quickly perish if it were withdrawn.
IV.
When I return to my cold home, you ask
Why I am not as I have ever been.
YOU spoil me for the task
Of acting a forced part in life's dull scene,--
Of wearing on my brow the idle mask
Of author, great or mean,
In the world's carnival. I sought
Peace thus, and but in you I found it not.
V.
Full half an hour, to-day, I tried my lot
With various flowers, and every one still said,
'She loves me--loves me not.'
And if this meant a vision long since fled--
If it meant fortune, fame, or peace of thought--
If it meant,--but I dread
To speak what you may know too well:
Still there was truth in the sad oracle.
VI.
The crane o'er seas and forests seeks her home;
No bird so wild but has its quiet nest,
When it no more would roam;
The sleepless billows on the ocean’s breast
Break like a bursting heart, and die in foam,
And thus at length find rest:
Doubtless there is a place of peace
Where MY weak heart and all its throbs will cease.
VII.
I asked her, yesterday, if she believed
That I had resolution. One who HAD
Would ne’er have thus relieved
His heart with words,—but what his judgement bade
Would do, and leave the scorner unrelieved.
These verses are too sad
To send to you, but that I know,
Happy yourself, you feel another’s woe.
