Their shadows danced closer on the honky tonk walls
As the band plays the last verse to that goin' home waltz
And they'll start to peril 'neath the parking lot moon
And some cars and a pickup won't be picked up 'til noon
Somewhere between midnight and daylight
It's an after hours merry-go-round

I wish I could say now that I've learned it all
From my observations as a fly on the wall

In An Utter Panic

Frantic.
In an utter panic.
So confused they are,
By their own policies.
They are now on the attack,
Of those who uphold them.

Believing those of other ethnocentricities,
Aren't as competent to follow through on policy.
The same standards and qualities...
They have long forgotten and do not recognize.
Since their philosophies,
Have become more attached to distractions.
And these distractions,
Have become their satisfactions.

Frantic.
In an utter panic.
So confused they are,
By their own policies.
They are now on the attack,
Of those who uphold them.

And proving themselves to be as blind as bats!
They've succeeded in eroding their own values...
That now have dimmed in broad daylight.
They fight to create their own demise!
With a wish for darkness,
To assist in keeping 'truth' out of their sight.

He is tired and now left alone
After the wars he fought
In broad daylight
Underneath the tall building
This is not the war of Achilles
Or Odysseus
This is not the blinding of Oedipus
Of the weakness of Hamlet
This is the war of his own days
Stabs of light
Piercing of dusk
The confusions of twilight
This is the war
Of modern battles fought
Within the lonely rooms
Of the condominium
Where he arrives and departs
Alone
This is the war that he fights

Black & white and shades of grey.

The curfew marks the fading of the light.
Now is the time when shadows congregate.
In hidden corners where they wait.
To welcome eagerly the fall of night.
Although by daylight forced to hide from sight.
The fall of darkness sets the shadows free
To go about their business secretly.
The quiet hours when the shadows claim their right.
But dawn will come and with the dawn daylight.
The shadows then are forced to hide away.
Throughout the day, to wait impatiently
Counting the hours until the fall of night.
Though where the shadows hide no man can say
With any degree of accuracy.

Behind each and every human,
Who has to work dusk to dawn,

There are few mouths at home,

To keep the food on the table,
to provide cloth and shelter,
to educate and medicate,
to love, care and cherish,
Most labor goes for love,
