The Normals

That group of people over there...
Tethered and being lead around like that.
What's wrong with them?

'Just take a glance.
Do not stare at them.
They become easily offended.'

Who are they?

'We call them 'The Normals'.
They represent a standard of life gone now.
They are the one's convinced the world is ending.'

But...
WHY are they tethered together and lead like sheep?

'It's a tradition.
Instead of following along they now prefer to be tethered.
And frankly...
It is a mutual acceptance they are kept that way.'

Your Hands

Dip your hands into the stream!
The whole sky unwinds throughout,
With tethered horses grazing.

The grass inches across the rocks
Of the whole snow-stream,
The whole town commends me!

The calling of a note
Alarms and dismays the scene,
Horses stepping out of their ranks.

Snow that means forests.
Grass meaning jungles.
This horse all-tethered is again.

This Is The Sea (Galway, The Leisureland 29.7.87)

These things you keep
you'd better throw them away
You wanna turn your back
on your soulless days
Once you were tethered
and now you are free
Once you were tethered
well now you are free
That was the river
this is the sea!
Now if you're feelin' weary
if you've been alone too long
Maybe you've been suffering from
a few too many
Plans that have gone wrong
and you're trying to remember
How fine your life used to be
running around banging your drum
Like it's 1973
well that was the river
This is the sea!
wooo!
Now you say you've got trouble
you say you've got pain
You say've got nothing left to believe in
nothing to hold on to
Nothing to trust
nothing but chains
You're scouring your conscience
raking through your memories
Scouring your conscience
raking through your memories
But that was the river
this is the sea yeah!
Now I can see you wavering
as you try to decide
You've got a war in your head
and it's tearing you up inside
You're trying to make sense
of something that you just can't see
Trying to make sense now
and you know you once held the key
But that was the river
and this is the sea!
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah!
Now I hear there's a train
it's coming on down the line
It's yours if you hurry
you've got still enough time
And you don't need no ticket
and you don't pay no fee
No you don't need no ticket
you don't pay no fee
Because that was the river
and this is the sea!
Behold the sea!

Believe Your Eyes

Do not speak to me of rights. There are
No rights. You have to know. We speak
When we're allowed to speak, of things,
Of course, which are not wrong, and
Walk where we're allowed to walk, and
Gather, not in larger groups, and not
In anger, never that, and not to criticize
The gods, the ones who lead, or happy
Thoughts that bags of water, tethered
To the surface of a tiny globe in empty
Space could be, somehow, unlike the
Stones, possessed of certain rights.

Into Overtime

I do not want an expensive watch. My time
Is far too precious to me to be tracked and
Hacked to slivers on the face of such a
Thing, and I'm not much for trappings of
A life I don't, and wouldn't, lead. You've
Seen me, love. You call me shabby. Once,
You said, 'bohemian, ' but now, it seems,
You chafe at being tethered to a dowdy
Clod, who rushes home from work each
Day to pour a drink and agonize for words
To put on his computer. You, in clothes
And make-up close to dearer than all
That I own, insist I dress, so we can eat,
But I have spuds and sausage in the
Kitchen. What more would I need?
You fume. I see it in your face, and in
Your tapping, polished nails, and, though
I neither have a watch nor want one, I've
Become aware the hours are growing short
For you and me.

Lead Balloon

Kiss my ass! I said
And I threw my drink
Tequila trickling
Down his business suit
Must be the irish blood
Fight before you think
Turn it now
You cant cowtow
You cant undo it
Its his town
And that went down
Like a lead balloon
Lead lead lead lead balloon
He said sic her, rover
That went over
Like a lead balloon
Lead lead lead lead balloon
Lead balloon
An angry man is just an angry man
But an angry woman
Bitch!
I had to ask him for a helping hand
It came with the heart
Of a bonaparte
Of a frozen fish
Its his town
And that went down
Like a lead balloon
Lead lead lead lead balloon
He said sic her, rover
That went over
Like a lead balloon
Lead lead lead lead balloon
Lead balloon
Lead balloon, lead lead lead lead balloon
Lead balloon, lead lead lead lead balloon
Lead balloon, lead lead lead lead balloon
Lead balloon
Its his town
And that went down
Like a lead balloon
Lead lead lead balloon
He said sic her, rover
That went over
Like a lead balloon
Lead lead lead lead balloon
Lead balloon
Lead lead lead lead balloon
Lead lead lead lead balloon

I don't understand the mandate of being together forever. The idea that you should do that is wrong. It makes us slaves to a societal mandate. You can still love, but it doesn't mean you have to be tethered to the flesh.

Sheeple

They follow each other like sheep
Maybe because of coloring, or with their own they keep
Not knowing where they are going so they just follow
One after another, up the road or in a hollow,
They all are weak and meek and so easily led
Sadly like sheep they know not of the dangers up ahead,
So they follow and follow as that is their norm
To follow in the mainstream and to their own they conform
They are led by their shepherd wherever that he might go
And they believe what he believes, but they know not what he does know.
They do their following without thought or thinking
They are acquiesce, without remorse or blinking
Thinking themselves not as individuals, but only as a group
All they seek is one to follow, someone to lead their troop
Following because of others or because they are adherent or devout
To the belief of someone else and even the lies from their mouth
They are told what to see and what they know and what to do
Sadly in their life and other matters they do not have a clue
These followers are unimaginative, submissive people
They are brothers to the sheep, known only as sheeple.

Babylon

Carried away by inuendo's
Your body language emulates
I sit in a dazed fantasy world
Wanting to re-create
Fornicator's are we?
Like the great City to All?
Babylon, she did the wrong
It brought about her fall
But temptation of your sweet lips
The essence of your drive
Makes me a solitary slave
Sensually so alive
But chained and tethered-bondage kept
Under your complete control
Sandwiched between the two of you
Is this how your garden grows?

~ Lessons ~

You undressed me
With those eyes
Convoluted and
Appraising
Naked in my ambition
Twice scorned
Bound to a fettered bed
Tethered to time and circumstance
And the impossibility of your eyes
